Welcome To Ponyville, Butterscotch!
First Impressions
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe first thought that entered Butterscotch’s head when he entered Fluttershy‘s cottage was that it felt very cozy. The clocks, the sofa, the large black bear in the corner, and the smell of cinnamon really eased him. He then felt a tug at his hoof and looked down to find a white bunny with a scary scowl.
“So you must be Angel? My name is Butterscotch, nice to meet you”, the kind stallion said.
Angel’s face then contorted from anger to confusion. To him, this felt surreal. There appeared to a stallion who looked, talked, and acted like Fluttershy that was right in front of him. Choosing to prolong his sanity, he hopped off to finding a thinking spot.
“Oh, don’t mind Angel. He can be a bit shy when it comes to new guests”, Fluttershy said.
Butterscotch turned and gave her a look that could’ve easily belonged to a bewildered child.
“I-I can stay here? With you?”, Butterscotch quietly asked.
“Of course, silly. You didn’t think I’d leave a friend to find a sleeping place, did you?”, Fluttershy said while giggling.
Butterscotch nervously shook his head no and began to chuckle along with the buttery mare of similar tastes.
Speaking of children, Silent Night came down the stairs to ask his mother a question.
“Hey Momma, can I ask you a-“, he froze as he noticed the stallion standing by his mother.
“M-Momma? Who is that?”, the young colt cowered behind the couch.
“It’s ok sweetie; this is Mommy’s friend. His name is Butterscotch. Why don’t you say hello?”, Fluttershy asked her child.
Silent Night slowly trotted over to the stallion and looked at him curiously. He looked at Butterscotch and smiled gently.
“Hello, Mister Butterscotch. My name is Silent Night”, Silent Night said shyly.
“Nice to meet you, Silent Night”, Butterscotch said while extending his hoof.
Silent Night took his hoof and shook lightly.
“Momma, do you have the medicine? I’m starting to feel yucky”, Silent Night asked.
“Yes sweetie, Momma has it right here”, Fluttershy beckoned to the child.
He trotted over and let his mother treat him. After she was done, he gave his momma a kiss.
“Thanks Momma! I love you!”, Silent Night nuzzled his mother.
Butterscotch looked at the scene and couldn’t help but smile; Fluttershy sure knew how to be a parent.
“You get off to bed now, honey. Mommy will be up soon to tuck you in”, Fluttershy asked him.
“Alright momma; Goodnight Mister Butterscotch”, Silent Night said as went up the stairs.
After that adorable display, Butterscotch smiled heavily. It felt good to make a child happy.
“He seems to like you; That’s not a hard thing to do, though. He likes everypony he meets”, Fluttershy said cheerfully.
There was a brief silence period; that was until Butterscotch’s stomach grumbled. He blushed and looked towards Fluttershy.
“Hey Fluttershy, can I ask you a question?”,
Butterscotch said after a brief moment of humor.
“Of course”, Fluttershy calmly replied.
“Well..I was just wondering....do you happen to have tea?”, Butterscotch suggested.
“Why, yes I do! I’ll go whip up a batch for you and I”, Fluttershy said before hovering to the kitchen.
“Thank you”, Butterscotch called to her.
Butterscotch watched her leave and began to silently ponder tonight’s events. One minute he’s feeding his bunny, and then he meets a female version of himself? It was strange, yes, but it didn’t shake him up. Of course there was a slight hint of fear that he may never get to see any of the ponies he knew, but the thought Fluttershy was going to allow him to stay with her made the fear lessen to some extent.
Flutterhsy came back in a minute later with two cups of slightly steamed tea. She sat them on the table and gave him his cup.
“Thanks again for the tea, Fluttershy”, he said with a grin.
“Oh, your quite welcome Butterscotch. Anything for a guest”, Fluttershy said sweetly.
Then there was a knock at the door, ending their conversation.
“I’ll get it”, Flutterhsy said to her doppelgänger.
The buttery yellow mare went up to the door and opened it to find a rapidly bouncing pink pony.
“Hiya, Flutters! I came by to see how you were. How are ya?”, Pinkie Pie asked.
“Oh, I’m doing alright. Just having some tea”, Fluttershy replied.
She didn’t want Pinkie to know about Butterscotch quite yet, so she didn’t mention him.
“Sounds great, Flutters! Anyway, I gotta go. A little colt is having a birthday and I gotta make it extra super special, so see ya!”, Pinkie said. She then sped off down the dirt path.
Fluttershy, used to this kind of goodbye, simply closed the door and turned back to a very confused Butterscotch.
“Who was that? And why was her mane so.....frizzy?”, Butterscotch asked.
“That’s Pinkie Pie, she’s the resident party planner here in Ponyville. Plus, she’s my best friend”, Fluttershy replied.
“She reminds me of someone I know”, Butterscotch said.
“Oh?”, Fluttershy asked.
“Yeah. I know this fellow named Berry Blitz, he’s pretty much a male version of Pinkie Pie”, Butterscotch said.
“Really? Wow, that’s amazing”, Fluttershy said while sitting next to him.
“Yeah, but he’s not my only friend. There’s Dusk Shine, Elusive, Rainbow Blitz, and Applejack”, Butterscotch said.
That took Fluttershy took back a bit. In fact, it proved her previous theory right. He WAS from some kinda alternate land of some kind, which made her a bit sad. Now he couldn’t be with his friends. She began to tear up, and he took notice.
“Fluttershy? What’s the matter?”, Butterscotch asked.
The timid mare looked to him and stared deep into his eyes. He could see a look of pure guilt in her eyes.
“I tore you away from your friends! Your all alone now, and it’s all my fault!”, she cried into her sofa.
“Hey, that’s not true. I’m not alone. I have you, Fluttershy”, Butterscotch said in a calming tone.
That comment madr Fluttershy Free really nice. In fact, it shit away all of her doubts.
“Well, alright. Anyway, would you like to do something maybe? I’ve got some board games or somebody cards if you’d like to play”, Fluttershy asked.
“Let’s play some 21”, Butterscotch said.
“What’s 21?”, Fluttershy asked.
Butterscotch explained the rules and they got to playing. About 10 games later, Fluttershy was getting tired of winning.
“ *Yawn* Oh my, I’m sorry Butterscotch; I guess I’m a bit tired”, Flutterhsy said to her guest.
“That’s alright; I’m actually pretty tired myself”, Butterscotch said.
“Ok. My room is upstairs”, Fluttershy said while pointing towards the bedroom.
“Oh no, I couldn’t do that Fluttershy. This is your house, after all. I’ll be fine on the couch”, Butterscotch said honestly.
“Are you sure? I mean, I’m also fine with sleeping in the couch. Please, I insist. I-If that’s ok with you, of course”, Fluttershy said shyly.
“Are you sure?”, Butterscotch asked.
“Very much, Butterscotch”, Fluttershy said assuringly.
“A-Alright; Goodnight, Fluttershy”, Butterscotch said; he then exited upstairs.
As Butterscotch walked up stairs, she smiled at him. She felt blessed that she had a new friend around here. Of course, she had Angel and Silent Night. They were like her children, though.
She went up the stairs to her son’s room. The poor dear was already asleep under his sheets. She kissed his forehead and closed his door.
As she walked into the hall, Butterscotch came out of Fluttershy’s room.
“Hey, Fluttershy?”, Butterscotch asked.
“Yeah?”, Fluttershy said back.
“Thank you for being my friend; I can’t wait to make new memories with you”, Butterscotch said humbly.
He then went back into his room. As the door shut, Fluttershy’s face was red.
“Oh my.....I think im swooning over him; I guess I’ll just let this happen and see what I think later”, Fluttershy said to herself.
As the moon set on Ponyville, the ponies in the cottage had a similar though if peace; it felt very natural. It was almost as it were meant to be there.
