Good and evil. Order and chaos. Luna knew that the line between good and evil lay in the perfect balance of order and chaos. Fighting off Discord alongside her sister taught her the effect of too much chaos. However, she also knew that enforcing too much order could bring a nation to ruin. Upon discovering Celestia's intention to essentially imprison Equestria, she attempted to make her sister see the error of her ways. Celestia paid her no heed, continuing with her plan. Seeing no other option, Luna battled against her once trusted elder sibling. However, her last ditch effort proves fruitless as she is imprisoned on the moon. Watching with horror as she watches the beautiful nation change into a militarised empire, she resolved to bring down her sister as soon as she escaped her exile.

A millenia later, Luna had faded into the history books along with many others. However, remembered or otherwise, she managed to rally a group of ponies to her cause. Starting with attacks on patrols around cities, the fledgling rebellion armed itself. Once they reached the strength required, they attacked a small outpost. After the ponies who occupied it were killed or surrendered, the Princess of the Moon made use of the communications equipment, revealing her presence to Celestia and issuing an ultimatum: release her grip on the nation, or Luna would pry it from her, inch by inch. Celestia's refusal sparked a civil war that that would rock Equstria to its core.
