Chapter 18: leaving The Ruins of Raleigh

Earth – The Ashes of Raleigh

The city lay in silent ruin, the smoke from their battle still curling into the sky. The massive horde abomination was dead, reduced to nothing but scorched flesh and bone, but the weight of survival still hung heavy over the group.

Celestia stood tall, her golden armor glowing dimly in the setting sun. Twilight, standing beside her, looked hesitant—torn between two worlds.

Sam leaned against the RV, arms crossed, his rifle slung over his shoulder. His clothes were stained with blood and soot, but his eyes were sharp as ever.

"You wanna take Starlight and Trixie back home?" Sam started, voice steady. "Fine. I get it. But we’re not leaving yet."

Celestia’s expression remained unreadable. "Why?"

Dan, still leaning against the RV’s hood, let out a low chuckle. "Because we’ve got unfinished business."

Twilight frowned. "What could possibly be more important than escaping this nightmare?"

Sam sighed. "His name’s Tsunami. And if he’s alive, he’s in Mexico."

Celestia tilted her head. "Who is this… Tsunami?"

Pops, who was busy reloading his shotgun, chimed in. "Best damn pilot I ever met. Tough son of a bitch, too."

Dan nodded. "Before the world went to hell, he went to Mexico for vacation. Then, the outbreak hit. We lost contact."

Starlight looked between them. "So… you’re trying to find him?"

Sam exhaled. "Yeah. And the only way to do that is getting to Florida, stealing a cargo plane, and flying it ourselves."

Celestia blinked. "You intend to… steal an aircraft?"

Pops smirked. "Princess, we just fought a skyscraper-sized zombie. What’s a little grand theft aeroplane?"

Celestia sighed, rubbing her temple. "This is madness."

Dan grinned. "Yeah, but it’s our madness."

The Plan

Sam leaned forward. "Here’s the deal. We get to Florida. We hit a military base, find a working cargo plane, and load up everything we’ve got—including the mirror. If we get to Mexico and Tsunami’s alive? We get him out. If he’s dead?"

His jaw tightened.

"Then we figure out how to make that mirror work and leave this nightmare behind."

Twilight frowned. "You think you can just… make it work?"

Sam shrugged. "You’re the magic expert, not me. But if there’s a chance we can leave? We take it."

Celestia studied them. These humans—they were reckless, chaotic, and violent.

But they were survivors.

And for the first time, she understood: they weren’t running from this world. They were fighting to take control of their fate.

She took a slow breath. "Very well. We will leave—for now. But know this…"

She locked eyes with Sam. "If you fail—if you cannot reach your goal—I will return for Starlight and Trixie."

Sam nodded. "Fair deal."

Twilight, looking emotional, hugged Starlight and Trixie. "Please… be safe."

Starlight smiled. "We’ll be okay. I promise."

Dan crossed his arms. "Well, Princess, it’s been fun. Don’t be a stranger."

Celestia gave him a look. "I doubt I could ignore you even if I tried."

Dan smirked. "Damn right."

With a final flash of golden light, Celestia and Twilight stepped through the mirror portal, leaving the survivors alone once more.

The air felt heavier without them.

But the mission wasn’t over.

Sam exhaled. "Alright. Let’s roll."

Pops fired up the RV’s engine, the old machine roaring to life.

Dan, loading a fresh tank of flamethrower fuel, grinned. "Florida, here we come."

Driving Through the Wasteland

The RV rumbled through the ruins of Raleigh, weaving between abandoned cars and wreckage.

Outside, the world was still and empty, the streets eerily quiet after their battle with the horde titan.

Inside, Dan leaned back, arms behind his head. "So, Trixie, where were we before we got interrupted by that giant meat monster?"

Trixie sighed. "You were being insufferable, as usual."

Dan smirked. "Ahh, right. You were about to admit you like me."

Trixie groaned. "Trixie would rather be eaten by zombies."

Sam chuckled, leaning toward Starlight. "And you were about to agree to that drink."

Starlight raised an eyebrow. "Was I?"

Sam grinned. "I like to think so."

Pops, still munching on a Snowball, rolled his eyes. "Y’all need hobbies."

The RV kept rolling forward—

Florida was getting closer.

And their final mission was about to begin.

Meanwhile, in Equestria…

Celestia and Twilight stepped back into Canterlot Castle, their minds still racing.

The mirror shimmered, showing the gang on the road, pushing forward.

Rainbow Dash grinned. "Okay, I like those guys."

Applejack smirked. "Gotta admit, they got grit."

Rarity sighed. "They also have no manners whatsoever."

Fluttershy wiped a tear. "I just… I hope they make it."

Celestia exhaled. "So do I."

Twilight clenched her jaw. "We need to be ready. If they come through… we help them. No matter what."

The mirror flickered.

The journey wasn’t over yet.
