Chapter 17: The Queen and the Survivors

Earth – The Ashes of Raleigh

The fires still smoldered where the abomination had fallen. The once-roaring city was now silent—the air thick with ash and the stench of burnt flesh. The streets, once packed with mindless undead, were now eerily empty.

Sam, Dan, Pops, Starlight, Trixie, Twilight, and Celestia stood amidst the wreckage, their weapons lowered, but their senses sharp.

The battle was over.

But the war wasn’t.

Pops, taking a long drag from his cigar, exhaled and muttered, “Damn city’s quiet now.”

Dan wiped blood from his armor, chuckling weakly. “Yeah. Little too quiet.”

Sam, resting against the RV, glanced at Celestia. “Alright, Princess. You mind explaining what the hell is going on?”

The Conversation

Celestia, still composed despite the carnage, looked at each of them in turn.

“I have been watching you all,” she admitted. “Through the enchanted mirror, Twilight and I have seen everything—from the infected, the horrors you’ve fought, to the allies you’ve gained.”

Sam crossed his arms. “And?”

Celestia’s gaze was firm. “I came to bring Starlight and Trixie home.”

Trixie shifted uncomfortably. Starlight bit her lip.

Pops smirked. “Well, ain’t that a problem. ‘Cause I don’t think they’re ready to leave yet.”

Celestia’s eyes narrowed. “Do you want them to stay in this nightmare?”

Dan, arms crossed, interjected, “You don’t get it, do you? They ain’t just ‘stuck’ here. They’re part of this now.”

Twilight stepped forward, her face full of concern. “But Equestria is safe. They wouldn’t have to fight just to survive.”

Starlight sighed, looking at Sam, then back at Celestia. “It’s not that simple.”

Celestia studied her. “…You’ve changed.”

Starlight nodded. “Yeah. I have.”

The Survivors’ Perspective

Sam ran a hand through his messy hair, still feeling the adrenaline from the fight. “Look, lady. You pop in here and expect them to just leave? This world ain’t safe, but they’ve saved our asses more times than I can count.”

Dan nodded. “They fight. They survive. And frankly? I’d take them over half the so-called ‘tough guys’ I knew before this mess.”

Trixie, adjusting her hat, muttered, “Trixie is not running away.”

Celestia sighed. “You’re not meant for this world.”

Pops chuckled darkly. “Maybe not. But here’s the thing, Princess—life don’t give a damn what you’re meant for.”

A Moment of Silence

The wind howled through the ruins. No infected. No voices.

Just silence.

Celestia looked over the battlefield—the burned corpses, the scarred buildings, the bloodstains in the dirt.

She exhaled. “Equestria… it doesn’t have this kind of darkness. This kind of suffering.”

Sam scoffed. “Must be nice.”

Twilight hesitated. “Then… what is this world?”

Dan shrugged. “Hell.”

Pops muttered, “Ain’t hell. Ain’t heaven. Just… purgatory.”

Celestia studied them. These humans—battle-worn, hardened, yet still fighting.

She had met warriors before. She had seen battle.

But she had never seen this.

Sam locked eyes with her. “So, what’s it gonna be, Princess? You taking them back, or do we keep fighting together?”

The flames crackled. The wind whispered.

Celestia’s wings twitched slightly.

And then—

She made her decision.
