Chapter 22: The Beasts Below

Earth – Hinesville, Georgia

The ground rumbled violently, a deep, guttural sound echoing from the sewers beneath the ruined streets.

Lady Gray, standing calmly in the storage building’s doorway, clutched her silver whistle, her blind eyes unblinking.

“The beasts below…” she murmured. “They are waking.”

Sam cocked his rifle. “Yeah? Well, I hope they like lead for breakfast.”

Dan smirked, adjusting his flamethrower. “Because we’re serving it hot.”

Pops, standing near the RV, sighed. “Always somethin’…”

Then—

The ground burst open.

The Horde from the Depths

From the cracked sewers, hundreds of undead abominations erupted onto the streets.

These weren’t just ordinary zombies.

Their bodies were twisted, elongated, their jaws unhinged like snakes, their clawed hands twitching as they howled like animals.

And they were fast.

Trixie paled. “OH BUCK NO.”

Lady Gray backed into the storage container, her infected dog, Fido, growling beside her.

Sam raised his rifle. “OPEN FIRE!”

A Battle for Survival

Gunfire erupted, the gang unleashing hell upon the nightmarish creatures.

Sam gunned down several, his shots precise, but the horde kept coming.

Dan let out a feral grin and lit the streets ablaze—his flamethrower roaring to life, sending dozens of the infected screeching into fiery oblivion.

Starlight and Trixie combined their magic, blasting apart massive chunks of the horde with pure energy.

Pops, laughing like a madman, fired off shotgun blasts, all while chewing on a damn Snowball.

“Y’ALL PICKED THE WRONG OLD MAN TO MESS WITH!” he hollered.

The fight raged on, the gang moving as one, cutting down the infected as they pushed forward.

But there were too many.

Sam reloaded. “We need a plan, NOW!”

Dan gritted his teeth. “I got one.”

He pulled a grenade from his belt, twisted the pin—

And tossed it straight into the open sewer hole.

*BOOM!*

The explosion ripped through the tunnels, collapsing the sewer entrance—sealing off the underground horrors before more could crawl out.

Silence followed.

Then—

Pops smirked. “Helluva throw, kid.”

Dan exhaled, wiping blood and soot from his visor. “Yeah, yeah. Somebody get me a damn drink.”

After the Battle

With the city finally silent once more, Lady Gray emerged from the storage container.

Her infected hound, Fido, sat obediently by her side, its red eyes still glowing, but its aggression completely gone.

She nodded toward the gang. “You fought well.”

Sam wiped his blade clean. “You got a weird way of saying thank you.”

Lady Gray smirked. “Thank you, then.”

Dan looked at the dog warily. “And what about that thing?”

Lady Gray knelt beside Fido, running her frail fingers through his rotting fur.

“He is mine,” she said softly. “And now, he will not harm you.”

Fido whined, then laid down, looking almost… tame.

Pops raised an eyebrow. “Huh. That’s new.”

Lady Gray turned toward them. “You seek Savannah, yes?”

Sam nodded. “That’s the plan.”

Lady Gray tilted her head. “Then you will need supplies. Come. I will help you.”

Restocking for the Road

Inside the storage building, Lady Gray had a hidden stockpile of canned food, fuel, medical supplies, and ammunition—likely scavenged over years of surviving alone.

She helped them restock everything, ensuring they had enough to last the long journey south.

Pops, loading up the RV, smirked. “Alright, we’re good to roll.”

Sam nodded. “Lady Gray, you sure you wanna come with us?”

The blind woman simply smiled. “The road calls to me. And I have never been one to ignore it.”

Dan, strapping extra fuel to the side of the RV, grinned. “Well, welcome to the squad, then.”

Lady Gray nodded once, then looked at Pops. “May I have food for Fido?”

Pops, without missing a beat, grabbed a can of beef and potato dog food and tossed it to her.

“Here,” he said. “Your zombie mutt eats like us now.”

Lady Gray chuckled. “How fitting.”

Sam, sighing, muttered, “I will never understand this group.”

Back on the Road

With Pops driving, the RV rumbled out of Hinesville, leaving the burning ruins behind.

The road to Savannah stretched ahead—unknown, dangerous, but still the only way forward.

Inside, as the gang relaxed, Pops casually opened another can of dog food and dug in, humming happily.

Dan, watching him, shook his head. “You’re actually a psycho.”

Pops grinned. “Tastes fine to me.”

Sam, sitting nearby, muttered, “I still can’t believe we’re eating the same food as a damn zombie dog.”

Lady Gray, calmly feeding Fido, simply smiled.

“Perhaps,” she said softly, “we are not so different after all.”

Silence filled the RV.

Then—

Trixie groaned. “Trixie refuses to be part of a group that eats dog food.”

Dan chuckled, throwing an arm around her. “Then it’s a good thing I’ll cook for ya, babe.”

Trixie blushed. “Ugh!”

Starlight leaned against Sam, smirking. “You do realize we’re completely insane, right?”

Sam sighed, rubbing his temple. “Yeah. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

The RV drove on, the gang closer than ever.

Savannah loomed ahead.

And Florida was within reach.

But greater horrors still awaited them.

Meanwhile, in Equestria…

The enchanted mirror shimmered, showing the gang’s newest ally—Lady Gray and her undead hound, Fido.

Twilight, furiously taking notes, muttered, “She can control the infected… this is huge.”

Rainbow Dash smirked. “She’s kinda badass.”

Fluttershy tilted her head. “That poor dog… I hope he’s happy.”

Applejack whistled. “They’re collectin’ folks like they’re buildin’ an army.”

Pinkie grinned. “I hope they have a zombie dog party!”

Rarity gagged. “I hope they STOP EATING DOG FOOD.”

Celestia simply watched, deep in thought.

“These humans… they are not merely surviving anymore.”

Twilight looked at her. “What do you mean?”

Celestia’s eyes narrowed.

“They are becoming something else.”

The mirror flickered, showing the RV rolling toward Savannah.

And the true nightmare was still ahead.
