Embrace Chaos
Chapter 3: The Butterfly
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"Ok....." said Mr Harmony as he looked through the task list. Asziel was beside him, walking and prancing along. They were walking through town, hoping to bump into any of the council members or others who are part of the event. "...mhmm......we should....we should........ go see the planners first. Without them, it wouldn't be a ceremony, huh?" he said to himself as he looked around.
"I'm bored, pap." whined Asziel. Mr Harmony sighed. His son was always a handful.
"Look bud, I'm sure you are. But your old man really needs to finish giving out these before Weatty decides to turn me into a chandelier." he said as he looked into the list.
They walked their way towards town hall, where the ceremony would be held at. A few draconequui could be seen walking about, talking and planning for said event. It was when one of them saw the pair walking towards them, she huffed.
"Finally, you're late as always, Adezen." said the raspy sounding female. She had purple messy hair, with a long pink serpent body. Her tail was of an alligator, with a pink tuft at the end of it. She had a pair of bear arms and bear legs. Her eyes were crystal blue, the eyes that pierced through Adezen as he gulped.
"W-well, ya know, I..."
"Forgot? Goodness Adezen, I used to wonder if you have short term memory loss or something." she said as she pulled the task list out of his paw.
"Hey!" he yelled, but was ignored when she turned as waved her tail tuft in his face.
"Can't believe you managed to be a god either." she mumbled under her breath as she walked towards her crew that were chilling by a table, chit chatting.
He grumbled. "This is why I think of women as a nuisance, m'boi."
Asziel gazed up at his father. "What about Penny?"
"....she's an exception. I'm talking about women. She's still in her teens."
"And when she grows up, would you hate her then?" asked Asziel as he tilted his head.
"Son, I never said I hated women. Just thought they were no good for our society in this generation, that's all."
Adezen flinched as he was hit on the head with something. "You take that back. We do more than you men do in an hour. And that's nothing." said the female draconequus with the list in her paw, holding it like a baton.
"Uh....hehe...." he chuckled as she threw the list into his arms.
"Phew... Now, only a few more hours to spare before we head back. You wanna stop by the bakery for a while, kiddo?" asked Adezen as he looked beside him, only to see nothing.
"..Asziel?"
"Prettyyyy~" cooed Asziel as he stared at a butterfly, half trying to catch it.
The butterfly had white wings, and some kind of blue mist generated from each flap, which amazed the child and sparked his curiousity. Many kids would be unsure what to do when seeing something like that. But not him, as he would rather chase it.
How much time has past, he didn't know. But he happily giggled as he chased the butterfly around, along the roads and by the shops. He would dig his way through a crowd if needed, making the other draconequui agitated as they walked, mumbling about how wreckless the child was, not caring to find out who's child it was.
The butterfly, was of course, flapping its wings hard as it tried to escape getting trapped in the boy's grasp.
Asziel ran with such might he felt as if he could fly. Having a pair of different kinds of wings certainly made that challenging. He knew that other children his age could fly quite well, even participating to volunteer weather works with Mr Weather.
"I'm gonna get you, butterfly!"
Being as wreckless as he is, his father was hesitant to send him to school with the other children. His son was the epidemic of a mess. Not just for his looks but for his personality. Although that may be the case, Adezen embraced it.
Asziel was homeschool of course. And his father had a fun way in teaching him animals. It took him a while to learn how to differentiate a bird and a butterfly.
But Asziel's fun was over as he saw the butterfly enter the sheer dark bonds of the forest, which was forbidden to enter.
There were signs hung up all over the entrance to the forest, warnings about entering the forest and that anything that happens, the council would not be accountable for.
This also meant that he was near the gates of the land. The forbidden gates which opens to the exit of said home.
There were legends that said an army of their kind had exited the doors in search of adventure, like the loonies they are, and never returned.
Legends also stated that horrifying, deadly creatures roam in the outside world. And that they would kill anything in their path. One of those creatures were named 'ponies', something the leaders of his land hated to talk about.
Asziel never knew what they were, anyway. Although it was tempting, he didn't want to upset anyone, seeing as how giddy his father gets when the name of the creature gets mentioned.
Although, he was curious as to know how they looked like. Was it big? Sharp teeth? Beady eyes that could pierce through your soul?
His thoughts were interrupted as something landed on his face. The butterfly.
Asziel smirked. "I let you roam and you choose to stay. Picking a fight, eh?" he asked the butterfly as he put his talon next to it.
Understanding the sign, the butterfly flew onto his talon. This way, Asziel was able to gaze at the beauty of the insect.
"You're really pretty...." he whispered at the butterfly. Before he could continue, they heard a loud crash from the forest. He gasped, startling the butterfly as it flew into the forest. "No! Wait!"
Without thinking, he chased the butterfly into the forest, following the blue mist trail that was left by it.
"Weatty! Weatty!" yelled Adezen as he ran across the road, clumsily tripping along the way.
He ran into town hall. It being renovated for tomorrow's event, so all the council members were told to gather here this day.
They were all grumbling, complaining on how Adezen would be late. Mr Weather grumbled as he stomped his paw, digging it into the ground. "Where is that no good piece of-"
"Weatty!" he exclaimed as he fell onto the ground, while breathing heavily.
"Finally, you're here. Now we can-"
"No, you don't understand!" interrupted Adezen as he pulled Mr Weather's face. "Asziel has gone missing! I need help finding him!"
"Missing?" asked Mr Weather. He sighed. "Well go look for him then, we'll just start this meeting without you."
"William, please!" pleaded Adezen. "I've looked everywhere! Every inch of this town! I need your help, please!" he said as he fell towards William's feet and started to bow, pleading.
William, however, merely sighed. "Adezen, this is an important meeting. I can't help you, I'm afraid. Either you join us with this meeting or you go find your son. We could look for him after the meeting, if that satisfies you."
Adezen looked at William with the look of dissapointment. "....I'll just go look for him myself."
"Butterfly? Oh, butterfly?" called Asziel as he looked around. He had lost track of the butterfly as he tripped over a branch. "Butterfly-"
His stomach grumbled. He realised, he hadn't eaten breakfast or anything today. He felt tired but at the same time he wanted to continue his endeavors. But as he looked around...
It seemed as if he had lost track of his surroundings too. He doesn't remember his way back. He gulped. "...uh oh."
He backed up as he realised how dark it actually was. He could've sworn that it was still sunny, but the forest had made the atmosphere so gloomy.
He backed up into a tree. He felt scared. He didn't know where to go or what to do.
He regretted running into the forest. He regretted chasing the butterfly. He regretted leaving his.....
"Pappa....." he whispered. He trembled. He missed him already.
He gasped as he was startled by the sound of loud screeching noice. A bird? He knew it was the sound of some kind of bird, but either way it terrified him.
He sat, back pinned against a tree. He closed his eyes. He felt afraid.
Suddenly, he heard something. And again. His heart rate increased. His palms were sweaty. It wasn't the sound of an animal. It wasn't the sound of branches or twigs breaking and snapping. It sounded more like...whispers. But a short and quiet one. Eerie and soft.
He slowly opened his eyes. And saw what had enfolded in front of him.
A row of blue small flames. More like smokes to be exact. It looked as if it leads to somewhere....
Asziel exhaled. He can do this. He slowly slipped himself off of the tree and still on four legs, walk towards the row of smoke.
The small smokes........ looked like small creatures. Asziel, curious, tried to touch one of them, but was taken aback as it dissappeared, leaving a small whisper from his touch.
He then looked at the wisps as his eyes trailed the row. It leads to somewhere, he knew it did. So, with enough courage he started walking and following the trail of blue smokes, watching them evaporate into thin air at every step.
