Twilight Days: Day 1
A Shaky Start
The sun came up and shone directly in my eyes, I made a grunt and tried to block it with the blanket. I met a resistance, followed by a lighter grunt, and I opened my eyes to find the girl from last night still in my bed. I had almost freaked out, almost, until I remembered my plan from then. I rose out of bed and made sure she was still asleep. She tossed and turned, but never woke. Perfect. I stumble into the kitchen and found a soda sitting in the fridge. After finishing it, I went down into the basement freezer and grabbed the rabbit I had hanging. It was frozen, not solid, but just enough where I could still cut into it. Taking a cleaver, I chopped into the rabbit and took the insides for a Rufus Special later. I took the legs and chopped those off, and stripped the meat from the bone and began to cook them on the hot plate. The smell was good, and it must've woken up the guest.
"What's that smell...?" She said rubbing her eyes. She saw the rabbit and froze in place, her eyes went slightly wider as she looked at me then back to the rabbit... Oh, shit tell me she not a vegan...
"Hello, sunshine. Sleep well?" I asked, trying to break her stare. She looked at me and nodded, slowly going to back the rabbit on the counter. "Good, I'm making some breakfast, it's rabbit; hope you don't mind. I wanna save the fox for an occasion." I said, nonchalantly mentioning the fox. She slowly made her way to a chair and sat down and began to look at the utensils. I noticed she was staring very hard at them. "All of the spoons, forks, knives, their made a wood. Pops gave me some wood carving lessons before I came here, good thing they came in handy. Course, washing them is no easy task, I just narrowed it down to tossing them out after about 5 or 6 meals, then making new ones. Also hope you're not vegan, need all the protein you can get with how skinny you are."
Indeed, she checked under the coat and saw she was practically bones and her stomach responded accordingly. She blushed a little and nodded. "It's true, I have eaten nothing but fruits and plants for my life, but if this is going to be good for me, I trust your judgement" She said with a little nod. Heh, girls barely nineteen, and she trusting strangers already. What a bad day for a hangover... wait I don't remember drinking... anything...
I looked at her then she gave me the guiltiest look she could possibly ever have. "You... bitch..." I said before falling to the floor, "The... food will... burn..." I said trying desperately to save my food, OUR food. That's when I saw it, she had a needle in her hands and on the floor on her side of the bed was a bottle of disinfectant. She poisoned me. "So... that's the... thanks I get... for saving you..."
"No," A voice, one that I knew too well, said. He came into view and pointed a gun at my face. "but this is."
And he pulled the trigger.
"GAH! FUCK!" I yelled shooting up from the bed and waking up my guest. She yelped and fell to the floor and looked up at me in fear. I looked at her and rushed to her and picked up the girl, lightly shaking her. "Empty your pockets." She only stared, mouth hanging open looking for words. "NOW!" I screamed and she started patting her pockets and turning them inside out. While I never asked, she looked in the jacket and she had nothing in there either. I huffed and slowly lied down in the bed again. I looked outside, it was still night time.
"...I'm sorry." She said in a meek tiny voice. I looked at her and saw she had tears welling in her eyes and I sat back up. She was crying at the edge of the bed and I closed my eyes and took a deep sigh. I got up and knelt down next to her and gave her a small side hug.
"Hey... Look I'm sorry. I had a bad dream, and I got paranoid... maybe a little too paranoid." I said as she looked at my through her arm. "I'm not the best guy in world, hell I ain't the worst either, but... tensions are tough enough, and I guess that nightmare just pushed me over the edge." I got up and held out my hand for her. "So, lets start again. My names Patrick, but you can call me Rick." She hesitated at first, but then she reached out and grabbed my hand and I pulled her up. She spoke, but in small little stutters.
"M-my name i-is Tw-Tw-Twilight Sparkle." I cocked my head to the side at the name, but then again some asshole's named Odin. I grabbed her shoulder and brought her back into the bed, and I grabbed the blanket for both of us. I asked her about if she knew how she got here. "I-I-I... think it had something to do with the m-m-mirror..." That's all I got out of her before she fell back asleep. The Mirror? Maybe it's a splinter group? I was gonna ask more in the morning. I looked out in the hallway and I saw Rufus sitting there wonder what the commotion was about. I clicked my tongue and he jumped up on the bed with us. I pet his head and he purred affectionately.
"Yeah, I don't know Rufus what do you think I should do?" I asked my cat, and sometimes he gave really sound advice.
Meow.
"You think I should huh? And why's that?"
Mrrow.
"Well... when you put it that way..."
Rrow.
"No, you'll be fed in the morning like the rest us, so quit your begging." And with that out of the way, I slowly began to fall asleep again, and hopefully I wouldn't have more nightmares...
