Dreaming of Harmony

I found myself running down a road lit up by lanterns. I didn't know why I was running, but I was, and had a strange feeling not to stop. So I didn't. I hoofed it through the barren village, there wasn't a soul in sight. I was alone in the cold autumn night.

The village resembled mine, only the houses looked different. It could have been the darkness making them look weird, though. Although it was dark outside, the sun was rising in the east, that was also the way I was running.

The road forked, I turned right. It curved to the left a little bit, leading for the hills that surround my village. I ran toward the hills and kept going. I dashed by houses of ponies that I knew, but at the same time they looked alien. As if I have never seen them before in my life.

I stopped in front of the town’s gate. Usually, a guard or two wereposted by it. Weird, I thought, as I bucked open the two gates revealing a stone road that snaked into the hills and past the mountains that lie south. I didn't follow the road, though, I ran straight to the eastern hills.

My mane was getting sweaty from running up hills. As I reached the top of a hill, I looked back toward the west. A sea of black was spilling in  through the mountain passage and into the hills. Massive constructs and war machines rolled over the grassy hills. The ground was shaking as hundreds of stallions marched.

I let out a curse word and kept running Further away from my village. I heard yelps and screams along with the crackle of fire and the barking of the cities guard dogs, yet I ventured forth not caring to stop.

After about ten minutes, I was about a half mile (of running up and down hills) from my village. My body was getting tired. I reached the edge of the forest. I felt like I was going to collapse, so I took a breather.

CRASH! The two trees to my right suddenly exploded into fire! An inch long splinter caught me right in the neck, I didn't bother to insept it. Out of sheer panic and fear I bolted forward, not ever knowing what made the tree explode.

I ran as fast as my legs would carry me. My muscles ached from exhaustion, my sides were in immense pain, every breath felt as if somepony was stabbing me with a dagger. I looked behind me at the town that now served as a battle ground. The building and houses smoldered creating a thick, pitch black cloud of smoke. The hazy sky was raining ashes, making it even harder to breath. The air reeked of burning hay and death.

Towering war machines rolled over the distant hills surrounding the village. Catapults and cannons unleashed there salvo on the citizens and town guards. Hundreds of warriors and machines marched and rolled with an earth breaking quake. The army must of came in from the sea of stars, west of my village. I turned from the violent scene, quickly catching my breathe I dashed down the narrow forest road. The forest was still dark, even though I could see the Sun cracking through the canopy.

Roots came up through the cobblestone path, nopony knew about the path except me and a few others, so nopony ever tended to it. Slow enough to keep myself from tripping over the roots, but fast enough to escape the horrific scene behind me, I ran for what seemed like hours. After Celestia know how long of nonstop running, I stopped. The sun shone bright with it's amber, celestial beauty. The screams behind me ceased.

I glanced at my hooves, my legs suddenly became heavier and I started shaking. I could taste blood in the back of my mouth. My vision blurred and I could no longer stand up.

A queer sensation overcame me as I collapsed. The pain all over my body seemed to heal and I could no longer feel anything but the air brushing past my face as I fell. I slipped into conciseness and violently hit the floor of my bedroom.

This is my very first FanFic. I appoligize for any grammatical mistakes. Anyways if you like this please leave a comment and if you didn't please give me some constructive criticism. One last thing, assuming on my feedback I’ll try to release chapters weekly! :D
