The Electric Defender
The Riddle
Previous ChapterNext ChapterLogan opened th the door and walked into the stairs, he then closed the door and opened it again expecting the alley, but only saw a dark concrete walled room with six ponies who Logan knew were Twilight and her friends. Fluttershy spotted him and gasped with a smile of delight.
"Why aren't we back in the alley?" Logan asked to the six ponies.
"This was no normal door, it had a spell on it." Twilight said.
"What kind of spell?" Logan asked confused.
"One that changes locations from some sort of pattern or mood." Twilight said in an attempt to explain.
"Well then It's time for some trial and error," Logan said, "Because sitting here isn't going to do anything."
"Error?" Twilight repeated, "We can't have error, it isn't right!"
"Twilight to do something right you must try other things and find out what is wrong so you can get it right next time," Rarity elaborated. Twilight opened her mouth to protest but nothing came out as she looked around in defeat.
"Fine," Twilight said, "We'll try it your way, but we need to get to Princess Celestia," Twilight paused, "Where is she?"
"She's stuck in the ceiling of the main hall in the palace," Logan replied then Pinkie started laughing.
"That sounds silly," She said.
"Silly er not we gotta git outta here," Applejack said leading the way out the door.
"But what if something bad happens?!" Twilight snapped back.
Logan was getting tired of standing still they had to get moving, or there would be no one to get Princess Celestia out. Logan spoke, "Twilight, if we don't go something bad will happen. Princess Celestia will never get out of the ceiling, Princess Luna might not get help to defeat Chrysalis, and the city will fall." Twilight's eyes went wide finishing the dreaded conclusion Logan was coming to.
"And if the capital, Canterlot, falls... all of Equestia falls with it." Twilight finished. The mood in the room seemed to change very dark with the gravity of the situation now in mind. Even Pinkie carried a grim expression on her face. Surprisingly, it was Fluttershy who broke a long silence with determination in her voice.
"Well we better do something before something bad happens," Fluttershy said. The other five ponies and Logan nodded. Suddenly the door began to shine, Twilight had a large grin on her face as the doors light died down.
"I think the door is going to let us leave!" Twilight exclaimed. She opened the door with her magic and they all raced inside. Logan looked around as they ran but saw nothing; darkness was everywhere except ahead where there was dim light. As they ran into the light Logan's face developed a look of horror as recognized the location they were now in. It was the crater Logan had made landing in Equestria. They were on the rim of it, and now that Logan saw the full size of the crater, he now understood the damage he had done.
In some moives Logan had seen bombs would create craters fifty feet deep and wide. The crater Logan had made was more than he had been able to see. The crater looked to be half a mile in diameter and just over a quarter mile deep; however, the crater was not a perfect hemisphere the inner crater was flat for a a quarter mile radius then went up at a steep incline. Logan couldn't grasp the fact that just him and his backpack could cause such great destruction. Cool wind caught the tips of the trees and stooped down into the crater bringing ash into his face. He stepped forward, sliding down the steep incline at the edge of the crater. Logan stopped himself on a farily flat part of the crater and looked at the ash ground.
All through the crater ash was present but not a sign of life was visible. Logan began to dig, trying to find fertile soil, but soon gave up in a depressing defeat. It was then that he noticed Fluttershy stood in front, with sorrow on her face.
"What's wrong?" Fluttershy asked in her quiet tone.
"I did this," Logan said.
"So what?" she replied.
"Look around," Logan said not looking up, "There isn't a single sign of life. No animals, no plants, and not a hint of soil that wasn't burned to ash. I did this... destruction. What if everything you first thought about me was right? What if I always just end up destroying? Life, freedom, happyness, destroyed in the end."
"Well it's certainly okay to destroy some of the Everfree Forest." Fluttershy said her tone becoming brighter.
"How is it okay to destroy nature?" Logan questioned his tone becoming darker.
"Well ya see, the Everfree Forest isn't so natural," Applejack chimed in.
"How is it not natural?" Logan asked.
Applejack's face twisted in small fear, "The plants grow."
"Animals care for themselves," Fluttershy added.
"And the clouds move-" Rainbow began
"All on their own!" the three finished together.
Logan looked at them raising one eyebrow and spoke, "Seems pretty natural to me." There was a silence that hung for a moment before the six ponies jaws went slack.
"How does that seem natural?!" Rainbow burst out.
"There's nothing out of the ordinary," Logan replied, "Where I'm from, that's how nature is."
"How?" Twilight asked.
"Each can be explained," Logan said, "Clouds move because the wind pushes them. Plants and animals adapt to survive in the area they live in; ever heard of the expression 'Survival of the fittest'." Logan could see that here nature worked a different way.
"Your world is messed up!" Pinkie shouted.
"Look at it from my perspective!" Logan shouted back, "Your world is messed up! In my world we don't have unicorns or pegasus, we have ponies but their coat is black, white, or brown. They arn't crazzy colors like pink or rainbow and they don't talk!"
Logan realized he had gone out of control when he heard Fluttershy began to cry. He went over to her and wat down, "I'm sorry Fluttershy. I just let my stress get the better of me, I didn't mean to make you cry."
"Nopony takes care of the animals." Fluttershy sobbed.
"Well we sort of do," Logan said, "We make rules to protect the animals' homes from being destroyed. Some of us even keep them as pets."
"What kind of animal do human have as pets?" Fluttershy asked wiping her eyes.
"Some people, like me, have cats. While others have dogs. There are, however, a few people that go with different kinds of animals like birds, lizards, and other exotic animals." Logan left Fluttershy to wander in her thoughts about the animals. He wandered further into the crater, but didn't see anything that would have made him feel better. Finally he found the center, maked by a disturbed patch of ash. Ahead of the center were hoofprints no doubt made from Twilight, Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash.
Once again he felt sadness knowing he destroyed so much life. With tears coming into his eyes he sat down looking at the ash ground. Then he noticed there was a different print that he almost sat on. The print looked like it was from a claw and whatever made it was big judging by how deep the print was.
Suddenly the was a chuckle that seemed to come out of thin air "You ponies are so much fun. Ahhaha!" Logan turned to Twilight for an answer, but saw that the six ponies were backing away from him. They arn't backing away from me, they know I'm a friend. Then that means what ever they're backing away from is... behind me. Logan jumped foward and spun around to see a figure looming over him.
It was a creature with all different body parts. Head of a pony; horns, left of a goat, right of a deer; body of a snake; arms right was a paw, left was like a chicken foot in the form of a hand; a right dragon leg; left pony leg; and a scaly tail. It also had a beard, one fang, and yellow eyes with red in the center.
"My god, you are one ugly motherfucker," Logan muttered unsheathing his blades both in a backhanded grasp.
The creature didn't see him, its attention was focused on the six ponies, "Discord? That's imposible! You should be in stone!" Twilight exclaimed.
"Oh but I am," Discord said flaring out his wings. His left a pegasus wing, his right a bat or dragon wing. "But in this spirit realm I can do what I please... with limmitations of course."
"Spirit realm?" Rainbow repeated.
"Yes, yes, after ponies die you come here, or you can get here by magic or being turned to stone." Discord explained rolling his hand. "Recently this big thing showed up but nopony knows how," Discord finished gesturing to the crater they were in.
"You know who did it!" Applejack yelled.
"Sorry, but here I'm nearly powerless," Discord said, "But guessing on the presence of magic lingering here I'm going to say... Celestia got mad." Discord errupted into a fit of laughter.
"I wouldn't joke about it if I were you," Pinkie cut in.
"Why?" Discord asked wiping away a tear.
"You'll make him mad," Pinkie said in a dark voice.
Discord was stopped from a pronoun, "Him?"
"Suprise," Logan said his bowie knife at Discord's neck. He had climbed up Discords back while he was laughing.
"Well done!" Discord said, "But you can kill in the spirit realm. Score one for Discord!"
Logan whacked Discord on the top of the head who threw his hands on his head in pain. "You can still cause pain in the spirit realm. Score one for Logan!"
Logan jumped off Discord who rubbed his sore head, "So, anypony want to tell me why Canterlot is in ruins?"
"Chrysalis attacked, and imprisoned Princess Celestia." Twilight said, "A changeling told us that she's in the ceiling."
"They're lying." Discord said, "A queen would not tell her subjects the actual location of something, only a near location. That way you'll be searching for something that's not there but you'll be near enough attract the enemy's attention. Besides, I know where she is."
"How? You didn't even know what was attacking Canterlot." Logan pointed out.
"Ah! After years of seeing the palace you notice when something changes," Discord laughed
"Tell us where she is!" Twilight shouted.
"Why should I?" Discord asked
"Because if you don't there won't be any ponys to make you laugh." Twilight said with a smirk.
"Fine but I'll tell you but my way." Discord said quickly.
"Not another riddle." Pinkie groaned.
Discord cleared his throat and his next words seemed to echo,
"Here and there and all throughout
Magic played roles with out a doubt.
But sides must be chosen in this world
and through out history this still shows.
To find your princess you must see both sides
to see through the tinted vision of the one who knows."
A bright light enveloped them all, then darkness followed.
