It was an early Friday afternoon, my band and I were performing for the Ponyville fair in thirty minutes. I knew every song we were performing by heart. We start by doing a cover of flank-182's "All the Small Things", play Foster the Ponies's "Don't Stop (Color on the Walls)" and end our show with My Magical Romance's "Teenagers."

"Okay, this is our first live show, Does everybody remember every single beat and note?" I asked my bandmates and best friends Drum Sticks and Four Strings, "We can't fail at this. The hottest chicks in school will be in that crowd. I can't look like a failure in front of them. Especially after last week."

Last week I participated in a race against two pegasus ponies from Twilight's School of Friendship, and crashed. I had cloud in my mane for 3 days after that.

"That was legendary," Sticks joked, "I can't believe you crashed right before the end of the race. It was hilarious."

Sticks was always like this. He was a funny guy, but he could be a major jerk, he was usually loud and heavy, like the drums. He always flaunted his stylish black mane and brown coat. He was the first in our class to get a cutie mark. He was a popular kid, which is why people always wondered why he hung out with me.

"Dude not cool," Strings glared at him, then turned his attention to me, "Anyways, we have nothing to worry about, we've been practicing for weeks. You could play each song with one eye closed."

And then there's Strings. Strings was usually the cool and quiet guy, unless you got on his bad side, then he would get aggressive. Most girls liked that about him, that and his blue mane a messy blonde hair. Too bad for those girls, he was gay. He didn't come out until about six months ago, and that was only to Sticks and I. Not even his parents know.

He was right though. I was overreacting. It was one of my many flaws, such as my inability to fly very well, hence last weeks class. Though, that isn't what started most rumors. What started most rumors was the fact that I was an Alicorn. As long as I can remember, which isn't that long, I've been judged by ponies at every turn. I've been called names as basic as "freak," and as rude as "Weak Alicorn Pansy." Though, It didn't bother me. The only thing I cared about was music. Well, that and my friends.

"You three are up," A lavender Alicorn known as Princess Twilight said, popping out from behind the curtain, "Just remember, do your best. You three are in my top twenty students, I know you can do this."

"Sorry, princess, but please stop with the cheesy break a leg stuff, we need to get on stage," I replied, with grin on my face.

"Oh, sorry," She smiled softly, letting us through and on stage, "And good luck!"

We stepped up on stage, plugged our instruments in, or in Sticks' case, set his set up, something he can do in three seconds, and began with song one. The song had a catchy rhythm and was easy to play. This was the first song we had learned, so every beat and note was stuck in our head. From start to finish it was a pretty easy song. We knew what we were doing. As the song finished, we calmed down, as our heads had been bobbing.

"That was just a warm-up, every creature," I roared with a big grin on my face, "Up next, Foster the Ponies "Don't Stop (Color on the Walls!)"

We started with a calm riff and whistling until the first lyric. This song was probably the most fun to play, it felt energetic, but was extremely calm. Some ponies began singing along. I started flapping my wings and took flight. I used my magic to hold the mic as I was in midair and used my hooves to play my guitar. As the lyrics faded I slowly landed back down. I don't know what causes me to take flight mid-song, but it's fun.

"Okay, no more fooling around," I smirked, "Now we play for real."

We began playing the song. It had a simple riff easy, but fun to play. It was the first song I had listened to during my emo phase. I knew the lyrics by heart. I knew how I was going to end this song, with a display of magic and a move I had learned from Rainbow Dash, the Sonic Rainboom. I disconnected my cord but used magic to wirelessly connect it to the amp. I flew up and continued playing I got to about 6 stories high before I used my horn to write my band's name, DSY, and then flew down at top speed a loud explosion had filled the Ponyville skies. Thank god I left the rest of the lyrics up to Strings, or we would be screwed. As we finished the song, I noticed something while in the air. Some sort of crystal was moving toward all of Ponyville, and fast. We finished the song and I landed on stage. I packed up my gear and headed backstage, where I hoped to find Princess Twilight. Nopony was there except my schoolmates. I looked around for Princess Twilight or at least Sunset, but to avail. I eventually gave up and headed to the fair with my instrument in the case and strapped across my back. I met my Grandfather, who had been watching me play the entire time.

"You did amazing out there," He said, "I didn't think that was even possible, other than that Rainbow Dash teacher of yours."

"You mean the Rainboom?" I asked, "It was awesome, but there is something else I need to talk about."

"What is it?" He asked, worriedly.

"That!" I jumped, pointing out a growing Crystal on the floor.

"What in the living Tartarus is that!" He shrieked jumping away from it.

"I saw it in the Outskirts while I was on stage," I said, "I went to look for the Princess, but I couldn't find her."

"Yellow Horn!" Twilight clapped, appearing out of nowhere "You did great."

"You can tell me how great I did in a minute," I replied, "But right now, there is a crystalline organism growing closer toward the crowd of ponies."

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"Look to your right," I said.

Her jaw dropped I was hoping she would know what to do, but I guess not.

"Yellow, connect our magic frequencies," She said, "We need to stay in contact."

"What is it?" I asked, "How do we handle the situation?"

"You're meeting Sticks next to the school, right?" She asked.

"Yeah," I said, "We're discussing band related things, why? Do you want me to head in the castle."

"Yes, I want you to meet him at the front of the school in five minutes," She ordered, "And hurry."

"Got it," I said, "He should be there in five."

"Um, princess?" My grandfather asked, "Help!"

We turned our heads to the right to find that my grandfather was being encased in crystal. We tried to pull him out, but nothing worked.

"I'm sorry Yellow, but you need to go," Twilight said, "I'll try to help your grandfather, but run!"

"I can't leave him!" I said, starting to tear up.

"Go! Now!" She barked, "There should be a crystal sword on the table in my castle, grab it and it's sheath. Then I want you to head to Canterlot."

"Yes ma'am," I cried, starting to run, I turned my head back to see her turning into a crystal as well, "Princess!"

"Go!" Was the last word she got out of her throat before the crystal fully encased her. I did as I was told. about three minutes later I arrived at the castle.

"Yellow, what's going on?" Sticks questioned, "Ponyville is being covered in crystal!"

"I don't know, but it's not safe here," I told them, "Twilight told me to grab a sword on her table and head to Canterlot. I want you guys to head the armory and get your own weapons. I'll meet you at the train station in 3 minutes. But remember to be safe. Whatever is doing this is going down."
