(Chapter 4 The Campaign Of Connacht

(The campaign of Connacht)

It’s been three hours since the battle. In Oro tradition they will burn the bodies instead of bearing them.

We were outside of the first gate just looking up on the piles of ashes.

To my left was Eric into my right was Gabe. Currently I was reading a letter I got just recently through magic.

Dear Lord Doom

I would like to assure you that the kingdom of Hlymrekr is safe and Its enemies scattered.

I was able to meet up with king Unitas and was successful in making you another vessel.

From Ea

I smiled and wrote back.

Dear Ea

That is wonderful news and I would like to say I was able to defend Connacht from being captured. So far the enemy was able to capture every settlement besides the capital. So before we can assist you we have to take back Connacht.

It shouldn’t take more than a week or two so try to hold on.

From your Lord, Lord Doom

And used a spell to send it back.

“Are... you... Lord of “Doum” said an orc in front of me.

“Yes I am Lord. Doom.” I said correcting him.

“Ahh... Sorry… not good... with... other languages... than... blacks speech” he told me.

“It’s fine... what do you need” I said cheerfully.

“King... say... bring him... to you… No! you... to him!” I just nodded my head so he wouldn’t have to struggle with speaking.

We followed him through the first then to the second gate and then finally the city.

I was surprised to find out most of the city was built “into” the mountain, instead of just being around it. There are all sorts of Orcs everywhere. There are buildings on ground level build all the way to the top of the ceiling and probably into it. They had to be at least 50 metres high. The mountain that were in is 250 metres high. Everything was made out of stone single piece of wood.

We eventually got to a third wall that was surrounding what I assumed was the palace.

The third walls gates open up to reveal the king of Connacht this time without any armour.

As soon as we were 3 feet apart we both bowed respectfully and greeted each other.

“Greetings I’m guessing you are lord doom” he said.

“That is correct and you are...” I said not knowing his name.

“I am king Oscar... now let me start off by saying I am sorry for the way I treated you when I first met you” he said while giving a bow.

“It’s no problem... you had no idea the power that we had” I said reassuring.

“Well either way thank you for forgiving me… now onto more important business re-taking my kingdom. Because of your help in defending my country I feel guilty asking you to help me more” I just nodded and said “that’s why we’re here”

“Thank you, now if you follow me” we followed him into the palace and after three minutes of walking we finally made it to a planning room.

There was a Iron table with a radius of a metre in the middle of the room surrounded by chairs. The entire room was made out of iron.

When we got closer to the table it turned out to be a 3D map of Britannia. The map look to be made out of stone with a table being made of iron.

Oscar lit up a few lamps so it was easier to see around the room.

Oscar took a seat at the the table while me and Eric sat at the other side, Gabe just took a knee.

“So we are here” Oscar said as he pointed to the of our exact location. “The enemy was scattered after their defeat. Before coming to my capital they took over two towns and two minds. Considering I don’t know what’s going on with the outside world I thought you can tell me where we should go.”

I looked at the map and after a while I had an idea.

“Well I see the best option is to split up. You take your army and liberate anything to the South and the south-east. Me, Eric and Gabe would head to the East and north-east.”

“You are not the only one being invaded right now. You, Tuadmuma and Hlymrekr are also being attacked. Luckily I was given a message that the enemy was pushed back.” I said giving him I plan

“Already then, is there anything else you need?” I took a second to think.

“Only two things. First do you have a ballista. Second are you willing to become a vassal of mine.” Oscar became silent for a minute or two. then he finally spoke.

He first looks to Eric “Son I see how you fight, I don’t think I can name 10 of my own soldiers who are better than you.” He then looks to Gabe. Gabe I cannot forgive you for invading my home… but I can forgive you for trying to save it” thank you was all he gotten reply. “finally we do have a couple of ballistas. But they are only prototypes. Why? And if I am to become your vassal how strong is your army?” He finished.

“When my arm he comes here… The enemy will have no chance. And for the ballista… well…”

About 15 to 20 minutes later we were past the first gate. The road wasn’t the greatest considering it was only 1 m wide especially for a 15 feet tall Orc giant. But the trees look nice as we walked through.

The wind had a nice breeze to it as if there wasn’t a battle hours before. It’s going to be a couple days until we get to the next town, and that’s not adding the mine that we have to clear out. In all in all we need this.

I had my mask lowered because I was using my magic to check if there is any enemy scouts.

Eric was in his full suit of armour and had equipped a crossbow for his long range attacks. That got me thinking and I soon as I get home everyone in the army is going to have a long range weapon and a melee weapon.

Gay was able to find some armour and put it on him but it probably won’t do much. Who’s able to find a lot of rope so that he can hold his medicine without using his arms because they were hoping something else… The fucking ballista! I was able to use my magic real quick to make it more like a giant crossbow then a ballista, The point is its scary as fuck!

It’s been three days and we’re about Half an hour away from the Town. During that time my magic is starting to run low even with all of the potions. Due to me having a sensor on, to detect nearby enemies was not the smartest move since I didn’t get to use it at all… at least we know we were safe.

I’m down to my last potion so I’m going to have to use it wisely.

But suddenly I felt something with my magic. It was too big to be a critter but too small to be one of those fire bears.

“Guys I got something” I say quickly but quietly.

They both nod and follow me through the woods.

Eventually we make it through another road and what seem to be five Orcs pulling a carriage to the town. My first thought they were Friendly’s but after noticing their banner was a black hand with a white background I knew they were the enemy.

I pulled out my bow and give a nod saying it’s OK to fire.

The first shot was Gabes. He shot at two obliterating them both and knocking down one.

Me and Eric fired at the same time both eliminating our targets.

The last one got back up and rush towards us with a sword. I rush forward as well, but just before we make contact I step to the side and kick him in the ribs.

His body speed off like a rocket towards the tree. When his body makes contact have of him is obliterated. The tree then falls down towards me and I catch it and gently set it down to not cause any more noise.

One last time I use my magic to check the area and were in the clear.

“Alright guys, we’re good” they come out from the trees and I was surprised to see Gabe was actually heading well.

We go over to check the carriage and it was completely filled with armour ammunition and food. Most of it looks pretty brand new.

“It’s a good thing they didn’t get this” Eric comments.

Start looking at the carriage and get a wicked grin on my face. Eric and gabe notice it to.

“Oh no... I know that look” Eric says worried.

“What this face no, you see we’re going to give them this stuff.” With my statement they both are confuse.

(Random enemy Orc POV)

Ever since the defeat at Connacht we were scattered. Only 15 of my group were able to make it back to this town in one piece. Luckily there is already 50 other is guarding the populace.

With our group ranging at 65 we set up the fences as best we could in two hours waiting for a force to hit us hard. Well those hours became days. And in the meantime we were at 94 men and a very strong defence.

Right now I was on one of the three towers guarding the town. Our orders are clear “Defend the town to your last dying breath.”

But still no army has yet to come… but we noticed that a carriage to resupply us has not yet arrived.

Then I start noticing that shadow was booming over me. I look up to see an object… is that… carriage!? (Smash)

xxxxxxxxxx
(Back to Alex)

After seeing the carriage smash into a tower directly I was ready to celebrate. Unfortunately I couldn’t since were in the middle of a battle.

After the carriage landed they were scattering all over the place to see where it came from. I take my name and start firing one after another.

Eventually they realize where the shots are coming from and fire back. They get behind terrible makeshift walls that were easily torn down as soon as the ballista fired.

Eric wasn’t doing so good since he only had one hand to fire the crossbow but he was still hitting them.

It went like this for about an hour until we finally saw the white flag. Just to be sure I use my magic to get a closer look to make sure that there’s no black hand. I tell my Friends to cease fire and we slowly walk out.

I could see that there is probably only a dozen more Orc left. The town’s folks started leaving the house is as soon as the fighting stopped.

The people look at us with fear and caution.

I slowly walk up and grabbed the white flag turning it into the Connacht banner and placing it down while yelling. “This land belongs to Connacht once again!” And The entire town cheered.

xxxxxxxxxx

Two days have passed since we liberated the town. We need a proper rest and make sure that the enemy will not be coming back here for a while.

The townspeople praise us with gIfts and food.

The towns people told us that the mine was only a day away and that the workers have been working there nonstop.

So as much as I want to stay and get washed in the glory... my work isn’t done.

So as we walked down the familiar road Eric and Gabe seem to be talking a lot more. At least they’re getting along.

Unfortunately I will not be able to use my sensor considering it cost too much magic which I might need.

xxxxxxxxxx

Finally we have seem to arrive at the mine. I tell Gabe to wait at the front entrance in case any of them get out and considering he only has one last bolt.

Me and Eric go in as stealthily as we can and take out any guards silently not cause attention.

Finally we seem to have made it to the main area of the mine. I could see around 50 to 75 miners and about 25 guards.

First I take anyone who is in high ground. Next I take out any stragglers who got too far from the group.

Now there’s only 15. I put about 5% of my magic in a little fireball and launch it add a group of seven. The fireball a rough did bigger than I thought and easily engulfed them in flames.

Me and Eric start firing away and they start retreat. Unfortunately for them only two were able to get away from us, And a few seconds later we could hear a loud smash!

Me and Eric instantly go to help the workers set themselves free. It was a slow process and tell Gabe got in and helped out as well.

As soon as they were all free they instantly got up grab whatever food and water they can and went back to the town.

Me Eric and Gabe huddle around for phase 2. After we freed the town and mine we are to teleport back to Tuadmuma. My last thought before we talk but it was ‘I wonder how green flame is doing.’
