The Human Chronicles: Nightmare Night

Nightmare Night growled angrily and charged at Jake. They would have crashed into each other head first but Jake dived out of the way. Nightmare Moon went rushing past him turning around at the last moment. "How dare you!" She yelled. "What are you gonna do about it!?" Laughed Jake. He suddenly regretted saying that as Nightmare Moon crashed into him sending him whirling backwards. Inside sugarcube corner there were gasps from the mares that had gathered by the window to watch. Jake suddenly reached into his pocket and pulled something out. He pointed it at Nightmare Moon. "What is that contraption!?" Shouted Nightmare Moon in fear. "This..." Replied Jake laughing again. "This is a gun. It's filled with these things called bullets. Bullets are litte pieces of metal that fly straight into your brain. Understand?" Nightmare Moon stepped backwards. "See you in hell Nightmare Moon..." Jake said pulling the trigger. Nothing happened. "Uh oh..." Said Jake as Nightmare Moon hurtled towards him smiling.

The next thing Jake knew he was lying on the floor in sugarcube corner. "What happened?" Asked Jake "Was it a nightmare?" The mares just shook their heads. "You ran from Nightmare Moon but she sent you flying straight back in here" Replied Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash, Twilight and Jake were the only ones who hadn't huddled in the corner. Rainbow Dash walked towards the door slowly. "Rainbow Dash?" Asked Twilight worried "What are you doing?" Rainbow Dash turned around quickly. "I'm going to finish what Jake started." She replied. She turned round and opened the door. She walked outside, slowly. "Hey Nightmare Moon!" She shouted. Nightmare Moon turned round suprised by the sudden outburst. Rainbow Dash charged at Nightmare Moon but was knocked backwards and lay sprawled on the floor. Nightmare Moon looked down at the unconcious cyan pegasus. Just as she was about to kill Rainbow Dash there was a bang. Nightmare Moon looked up to see Jake holding the gun at her. "That thing doesn't work." She laughed. "You think so?" Asked Jake. He pointed the gun at Nightmare Moons leg and fired. "Gaah!" Yelled Nightmare Moon dropping to the floor. A river of red ran across the floor. "How d'you like that?" Jake asked mockingly. Nightmare Moon suddenly bit Jake on the leg and he collapsed to the floor. "How d'you like that?" She replied even more mockingly. She bit Jake on the neck and blood spurted out. Nightmare Moon was laughing manically now. "I-I-I-I'm not going down without a fight." Said Jake weakly. He raised the gun to Nightmare Moons head. "What are you doing?" Nightmare Moon asked worriedly. "Finishing what I started." Jake replied pulling the trigger.

The six mares rushed over to the human and the pony as they lay on the floor dead. A river of blood was flowing between the bodies. It was over. But at a price. And the price was life. Everyone looked silently at the bodies. But it was Fluttershy who broke the silence. "It's been said that death is the next great adventure." She said. Everyone stared at her in amazement. This shy pegasus was making a speech? "I know your suprised that I can make this speech after what has happened." Fluttershy continued "But what happened today is why I can make this speech. I learnt from this day is that sacrifice can save lives. And Jake showed that in stopping Nightmare Moon. This day will be remembered because of what Jake did. Jake saved lives and he will be remebered for that." All of the ponies stared at Fluttershy as she hovered in the air defiantly. Slowly but surely everyone started clapping. And that night was remebered for the sacrifice that Jake made. But the events of the night weren't quite what they seemed. But that, dear readers, is for the epilouge.
