Running with Rifles, Equestria.
The assault of vigil island.
[ Time: 0001 hours ]
[ Location: East coast of vigil island main assault landing zone. ]
(POV: Sergeant Jackson. Greenbelt amphibious assault force.)
The Landing vehicle rocked as a wave hits the side AAV, it was dark in the vehicle, a small area of the interior being illuminated by the dim electric lighting giving the small space erie red glow.
"So guys....anyone know what sort of shit we could expect to find?"
A nameless private asked the silent interior breaking the ominous science that had filled the area.
"Hell if I know, all I heard was rummors of black operation types of test...you know your classic spy movie shit."
A PFC talked back to the private, seemingly relieved that the silence was lifted. And just as he finished speaking the AAV erupted in conversation.
"Bull shit, ain't no way they making war ending technology there...."
A sergeant major challenged the PFC's idea of highly advanced technologies.
"Oh yeah....what ideas do you have huh?"
"My guess it's just a small air field, I mean have you have seen the aerial reconicese photos? It's nothing more then a airstrip."
The PFC is about to retort the idea but then Squad leader cuts him off.
"Your right, both of you, it's both a airstrip and a scientific research laboratory of sorts."
The AAV falls silent only the humming of the engine and the waves rocking the hull of the AAV could be heard. everyone's head turns to the Squad leader.
"Look, all command told me and the other Squad leader's in briefing was that we should expect heavy resistance once we land."
Another Trooper speaks up, with a snarky retort.
"What? Command forget to book us a hotel room on island death? What a shame and here I was hoping we could enjoy the beaches."
A few of the troopers found the remark funny, but mostly it did not ease most of the troopers nerves as they knew they were heading into certain death.
Many of the more seasoned troopers who had fought for
Fridge Valley had encountered Brownpants defense's before and they were not something to be laughed at.
Many men had died at Fridge Valley, the valley by far was one of the most bloodiest battles the Greenbelt's had fought for.
Even with them winning the battle it took them two years and the loss of seven thousand troops to achieve this outcome.
And now they were heading directly into the Brownpants head facility of weapons and research.
The casualties were expected to triple more than the fridge valley offensive.
But such things did not matter to Sergeant Jackson, for all he cares he was just a number on a casualties statistic form.
He held his M16 assault rifle with a death's grip, his knuckles turning a snowy white as he thought of all the horrible ways he could die once they landed.
He was brought out of his thoughts when a explosion could be heard out side the vehicle.
"Holy shit we've been cought! Get ready! Landing in forty seconds!"
The driver yelled from his driving compartment as more explosions could be heard outside, the Brownpants were sure to be on full alert.
"Shit! Just when I thought this might be easy."
"Stow it private, alright men our orders are to secure the beach head were we will then hold out for the main force to hold the beach for us, we will then assault and secure both the airfield and the laboratory's."
The Squad leader finished talking to the men just as another round hit the water next to the AAV.
"Damn it! Where the hell is our air support?!"
"Hell should I know command said to maintain radio silence...."
"Fuck that call the carrier group and get them to bombard the entire beach head."
"But our orders are too....."
Another round hit, this time hitting one of the other AAV's.
"Does it matter what command said to do?! We are sitting ducks out here and unless we get those defense's bombed now there won't be a single man that will make it onto that beach!"
More explosions could be heard now with the additional sound of the AAV's anti personel turret opening fire on the beach.
"Shit...alright..."
The buzz of the radio could be heard from the cabin.
"Phoenix one command this is spear head! We are under heavy artillery fire the enemy knows we are coming....I am requesting air support to bomb the entire beach head in order for our men to land how copy over?"
The radio was silent as more AAV could be heard exploding along with more machine gun fire.
"Spear head we are launching AV-8B Harrier's to the beach head now, expect them in eight seconds over."
By now the assault force was close enough to the beach that they could hear the artillery thumps hitting the beach.
Just as this was happening the roar of the Harrier's could be heard as their missiles rained all along the beach head and the artillery positions.
The radio gave a long wave of static before main command relied.
"Spear head you are clear, Harrier's are heading back now for rearming, good luck."
"Roger that. Thanks for the help over and out."
The operator hung the radio up and turned the landing lights on.
"We are here! Unload unload! Get your asses out there we will cover you!"
The driver yelled into the back just as the door opened up.
The sounds of machine gun fire could be heard along with the men charging the beach head.
The Squad unloads from the rear of the AAV, they then run for the nearest cover.
Behind them hundreds of other assault craft could be seen coming out of the water and driving up onto the beach dumping their troops off.
The squad after running through open grounds made it to the rally point, having lost a few men to the machine gun fire and land mines they then prepared for the next phase in the plan.
"Sir what now?"
A panicking private yelled over the gun fire reloading his M16.
"We wait for the tanks to land, we then follow them in all the way up to the airfield...."
He was cutoff as a rocket flew right over them off towards a AAV.
The AAV exploded sending flaming shrapnel everywhere.
"Jesus Christ! That was close!"
"Dont use the lords name in vain!"
"Very funny, now shut up and provide suppressive fire on that position!"
Two troopers took aim with their rifles firing at the position where the rocket came from.
Then five more rockets are launched, two of which disabled two AAV'S while the other three landed on a group of soldiers running up the beach.
"These pants shitters dont give up huh?"
"Does not matter just keep them suppressed!"
As one of the Private First Class retorted a Brownpants Mil Mi-24 flew over the ridge line firing rockets all over the beach hitting many small clustered groups of infantry running up the beach.
One of the troopers pulled out a M72 LAW from his bag and would aim the sight at the tail of the Mi-24, he'd fire the rocket, a few men watched as it went flying through the air hitting the tail rotor making the helicopter spin out of control where it then crashed onto the beach in a fiery explosion.
"Enemy helicopter down!"
The small victory was short lived as now the remaining MG nest's took aim at their section as to make sure whoever shot down their air support was put down.
"Shit! We need those tanks now! Where are they at!?"
"They should be..."
He was cut off as a friendly tank rolled up behind them, Machine gun firing at what it could.
"Our support is here! Follow the tank to the airfield, the main force can deal with those MG's!"
The men would move away from their rally point and start following the tank making sure to stay out of the enemy's fire.
As the group advanced up the small hill to the airfield a number of friendly tanks and infantry were now following closely behind.
The amphibious assault force had now made it to the Airfield, the first step in order to take over the small island was to secure the airfield so that enemy air assets could not attack the assault force and delay progress.
As they prepared to attack the airfield two Greenbelt AH-1 Cobra's flew over head firing missiles and 20mm rounds all over the bases defensive structures. Once finished they fly off before the enemy could fire AA missiles and shoot them down.
"Right, now that the Air Force has softened the base attacking the Airfield should be....."
The Squad leader never finished his statement as a Brownpants surprise attack come running out of the brush they rushed the amphibious assault force with RPG's and Assault rifles.
A private see's the Brownpants rush down the hill and charging at them.
"Holy shit ambus...."
A round would exit the Privates head spraying blood and greymatter all over another trooper then he fell to the ground dead.
The entire armoured division would erupt into activity, tank MG's would take aim at the attackers and the infantry ran about looking for cover as not to be hit by enemy fire.
"Contacts to our right! Open fire take them down!"
A soldier yelled over the din as Greenbelt force's fired apon the charging Brownpants force's.
One by one the enemy forces fell, until none of the enemys still stood, the ambush had failed.
"How many did we lose?!"
"We lost one tank and eleven guys from squad B."
"How many guys do we have left?"
"We have eleven tanks and fifty guys left."
"We can still finish this, alright let the tanks go first then have the infantry follow....I want no more surprises..."
The sergeant major gave the Squad leader a salute and went back to the tank formation to give the orders to attack.
The Squad leader turns back to his men, giving the move signal with his hand the squad prepared to push to the airfield and get some safe ground for the day.
The amphibious assault force pushed to the front gate of the airfield, tanks having already secured the airfield, men poured into the camp setting up sand mags and machine gun emplacements for defense from any remaining Brownpants force's.
Towards mid day UH-60 Black Hawk's flying from the carrier group land at the newly claimed airfield and unload more men and supplies to reinforce the airfield as to make sure it stayed under friendly control.
The day passes and the Brownpants didn't seem to want to assault the airfield.
Towards night fall it was discovered that a small POW camp was located under the Airfield, a team of engineers found out when a metal bunker with bars built-in was discovered hiding behind the hanger area.
With the POW's now freed they decided to help support the base.
With the airfield secured all they had to do now was secure the laboratory's.
(Time: 2100 hours.)
(Location: ~~Brownpants~~ Greenbelt's Airfield.)
(Night of the final assault)
(Two hours before teleportation accident.)
It was a clear night, not fully clear of clouds but clear enough to be considered clear.
The full moon illuminated the airfield which was full of activity.
Since the assault force took the airfield the base reassembled something out of a WW1 trench line facing the Brownpants facility's, with the occasional AV-8B Harrier flying over head breaking the still air.
Troops we're getting ready to take the final base, being reinforced since the beaches they were ready for a full armoured assault on the compound.
In one of the watch tower's was Sergeant Jackson manning the mounted M2 Machine Gun with his watchman.
Both of them were talking about movie's that they had both seen as a way to pass the time.
"So....ever seen Half Life 3?"
"Yeah I saw it....pretty good movie the ending sucked though."
"How did it end?"
"The guy in the business suit walks up to gorden and....."
"Shhhh."
"What?"
"You hear that....."
"What?"
Private Philips, the watchman would look out into the darkness swinging the search light over the mounds of dirt and barbed wire.
"..."
"Really, what was it?"
Sergeant Jackson asked starting to get frightened, gripping the machine gun.
"I heard......spoilers!"
The private would break out laughing as Jackson slowly easied up and started to get pissed.
"Man, screw you dont scare me like that!"
The Private was still laughing at his prank.
"Man, you should have seen that coming...."
"Yeah...well...what ever...just pay attention to your post."
"Aww man...we are going to stop? Just like that?"
"Well maybe if you weren't such a dick we would still be talking."
Philips was shaking his head in disappointment.
"Cold man....thats just cold."
After that neither of them talked for a while, all they did was scan the hill side making sure no Brownpants counter assault would take place.
The two of them waited in the tower, the occasional Harrier passing by the island breaking the silence.
[Time: 2200 hours.]
[One hour before teleportation accident.]
[Final assault of Virgil island.]
The monent had come, this entire invasion of the island had led up to this point...the full control of Virgil island and its technology.
Tank platoons readied their tanks, infantry checked over their rifles and supplies.
This was it.
At 2206 the assembled forces moved out if the airfield converging on the final bastian of Brownpants control on virgil island, at the facility.
Research personnel were panicking, they were told to evacuate and burn what they could. Years of research and developing, trial and error, all of it was being burned to ensure that it did not fall into Greenbelt hands.
Well almost everything, deep within the facility a group of scientists continue their work....even as the facility is being abounded they continue working.
Their project? The one thing the scientific community laughed at...the teleportation technology.
Their plan was to overload the systens and vaporize the entire island, all they needed was one more hour.....one more hour and then none of the technology will be recovered.
One of the scientists, Senior researcher Yurievich was sitting on a old retractable chair drinking vodka as to keep his growing stress and fear in check so that it would not cloud his judgment all the while over seeing that the device is detonated.
[POV: Brownpants teleportation lab.]
Senior Researcher Yurievich calls out to one of the scientists in the room.
"Ivan, how goes the overload?"
"Its going well...if all goes to plan then those лохи will be non-existent in a hour."
"Very good, Dimitri...how goes the barricades?"
Staff Sergeant Dimitri calls from the other side of the room.
"Defense's are coming along well...we should keep those mother less pigs out."
"Excellent, glory to the United Federation of Neo Russia.....glory to the Brownpants!"
The group continues to charge the device, above them Greenbelt forces enter the complex killing anyone they come across.
[POV: Greenbelt Assault force.]
[Location: Research site Omega.]
The assault force had steamrolled the remaining outer defense's with the remaining Brownpants either retreating or surrendering the battle seemed won, even though most of the technology they had come for was up in flames, they had the remaining documents so it was not a total loss.
Greenbelt special forces were sweeping the building so many of the soldiers had nothing to do.
By one of the tanks what remains of the amphibious assault force was play cards with members of zulu squad.
They were using some old wooden tables they had found in the building to shuffle the deck. a few of the troopers were smoking cigars due to the mission being successful.
Jackson was watching the group not really interested in playing cards he walked about the area observing how most of the men were waiting for the special forces to be finished clearing out the building.
He watched as a group of MP's harass the Brownpant prisoner's often mocking them laughing at them and occasionally if they talked back getting beaten.
Not his business to interfere in he walked away from them taking a look up above him at the transport helicopters coming in and dropping off what looked like Army corps of engineering, most likely here to build a small base now that it was theirs.
He walked back over to his squad, about a hour had past since the attack on the base, it looked like he was in the clear.
[POV: Brownpants teleportation lab.]
[One minute till detonation.]
Senior researcher Yurievich was getting ready for the end now, he finished his bottle of vodka and grabs a PB semi automatic pistol to kill him self instead of being vaporized.
"Gentle men, our time is running short....I just wanted to let you know that for the past two years on this island it has been a honor to have worked beside you."
The men gave a short salute to the seinor research officer before he went into the back room.
A bang could be heard a moment later at this point the men in the research room gave their final prays and curses just as the clock reached zero, the ground began to rumble as a white energy ball began to expand from the center of the room.
[POV: Greenbelt Assault force.]
[Location: Research site Omega.]
[Time until teleportation accident 0000 hours.]
Just as Jackson gets back to his squad the ground begins to shake.
"What the fuck? A earthquake?"
"Whats going on!"
The platoons began to panic as the shaking intensifys then stops.
"Huh that was...."
Jackson does not finish his sentence as a ball of enery erupts where the research building was enveloping everything in its path quickly overtaking the entire island. But it does not stop there, it quickly expands into the ocean devouring the Greenbelt navel force, after that the expanding energy continues spreading.
[Location: Space.]
[POV: Graycollers spy satellite.]
Video feed shows at the point of Virgil island a large energy field expanding outwards devouring the entire region before disappearing along with all the region's major land mass, location of the region is unknown.

The general conclusion for what happened to the region was unknown, all anyone could agree on was that it came from Virgil island, the war still continued for eighty more years on earth before the factions decided that war was no longer needed, but of the men in the missing region the war continued, albeit on a new planet....
