Well, she really didn't expect Shining to visit so early, plus she was in her depressing state after breaking up.

By the time he'd arrived, he discovered that Twilight was on such depressing state. Any methods to cheer her up ended in vain; one of them was hitting that particular stallion right in the face, but as much as he hoped to do so, Twilight won't allow him.
