Iron Man in Equestria
Chapter 6: "Rejected by Stark"
Previous ChapterNext ChapterTitanium stood in front of the mirror of his home in Canterlot wearing his best red necktie, hoping that he would land the job that would take his family out of financial debt once and for all. Little did he know that deep inside of him, a monster was being created.
"Well," he said, gleefully walking past his family who were seated in the kitchen. "Today is the day we are setting a course for a bright and glorious future thanks to my ingenuity and interest in creating the perfect robots."
But not everyone was excited for him.
"What's the matter with you, Webo?" he asked, suddenly frowning. "Don't you have a little confidence inside of you for me achieving my goal?"
"Titanium, I want to have confidence in you," she confessed, trying to be supportive of her husband. "It's just that…don't you think that you are letting all of this go to your head?"
"No, all I want is to start bringing in the bread to this family."
"Dad, why don't we all pitch in?" suggested his son. "There are plenty of jobs in Canterlot that we can apply for. We'll all pitch in."
"Absolutely not," cried Titanium. "You and your sister have school and your mother has her own life to live by. Trust me, you'll thank me when all is said and done. Give me a kiss, Webo."
Reluctantly, Webo kissed her husband and humming to himself, Titanium walked out of the house feeling super confident that he was going to work for the great Tony Stark and that there would be nothing to stop him from achieving his goal.
"Ca-ching, Ca-ching!" he giggled to himself as he walked towards Canterlot Castle where the interviews were being held.
…
At Canterlot Castle, pony and human went through the process as Tony and Julia interviewed each candidate, on four or two legs.
"Well, we've got quite a list of acceptances," said Julia, looking over at a stack of papers that sat next to her. "Do you think that maybe we took on too much?"
"We need all the staff we need," replied Tony. "I want 200 employees willing to work for Stark and that's what we want to get."
Just then, Tony reached down and picked up the last application, which was from Titanium.
"Don't know about this one," he said, looking at the application. "I'm beginning to sense he seems overconfident."
"Let's see for ourselves," Julia remarked, rising to her feet and walking over to the door. "Titanium?"
Taking another look at the application, Tony sighed as Julia brought Titanium inside and motioned for him to sit down. Even before asking him anything, Tony was beginning to sense he wouldn't be a good fit.
"Okay, Titanium," Tony sighed, trying to act professional in front of him. "So, it says here that you are a former business owner in Canterlot, yes?"
"I am, Mr. Stark," he answered. "I used to own a business and then it went out of business. Sorry for using two words in the same sentence."
"That's all right," remarked Julia. "Tell us, Titanium, what would contribute to Stark if you are hired?"
"I would contribute so much to the organization, Miss Carpenter," he said, happily. "My knowledge of robotics is beyond anything imaginable. I can assure you that I will do everything in my power to make your company the best it is in Canterlot."
Taking in what Titanium had said, Tony asked the next question.
"Why should we hire you?"
"Well, didn't I say why? Because my knowledge of robotics is beyond belief. I want to reassure you, Mr. Stark, that I won't fail you if you hire me to join your company."
"Can you follow direction?" Julia asked.
"Yes."
"Can you be part of a team?"
"Yes."
"Can you take part in all projects?"
It was this question that got Titanium stumped. In his mind, he wanted to work alone but he couldn't.
"Um…"
"Well?" asked Tony. "Can you work on all projects or can't you work in all projects?"
"I'd…I'd be willing to learn, Mr. Stark," stammered Titanium.
"I'm sorry, Titanium," Tony answered hastily much to Titanium's dismay. "But, I am not looking for fast learners, I'm looking for veterans, workers who have the drive to be part of a team and I can just tell from the body language that you are only in this for the money."
This made Titanium's excited mood turn to despair and disbelief.
"What?!" he cried, rising to his feet, suddenly angry. "How dare you say that I am only in it for the money!"
"Titanium," Tony said calmly, unfazed by Titanium's sudden outburst. "I want you to take no offense to this decision, but I know a well deserved candidate as much as anyone and right now, I'm not seeing that out of you. I'm sorry, but we are not going to consider you for hiring at Stark Enterprises."
"Is that so?" Titanium growled, storming out of the room and turning back towards Tony and Julia. "Well, I can prove to you that I am valuable asset to Stark one way or another."
With that, he stormed out of the room and slammed the door, leaving a startled Tony and Julia alone.
"That was…interesting," Julia stammered.
"I know something is wrong when I see it, Julia," Tony replied firmly, quickly shaking off any shock that he had absorbed from the slamming of the door. "He just doesn't seem like the right fit, simple as that."
"You heard what he said, Tony," Julia advised. "He's going to prove one way or another that he can be a valuable asset to our company."
"But he isn't, Julia, end of story," Tony retorted, motioning her to look at the stack of applicants that had already been hired on the spot. "By the way, look at all of the people and ponies we have already hired. We have enough of a workforce who are ready to begin work as soon as the Stark building is built in Canterlot."
Rising from their seats, the two executives and lovers gathered their belongings and left the room, ending the interviews.
…
Meanwhile, Titanium returned to his home and rather than spending time with his family, was back in his workroom hard at work on creating more robots.
"I'll show him that he turned away the wrong pony," he snarled, fiercely working on a robot pony. "I'll show all of Equestria what I can do! To hell with Stark Enterprises and their inflexibility in hiring somepony who would be an attention hog! If they can't see it, I'll make them see it!"
Pulling himself back from his work, Titanium admired the army of ponies he created and pretty soon, he would make quite the impact on both Equestria and Stark Enterprises…but not in a good way.
