Chapter 30: A Fairy Helps a Golem

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

It was another regular day at the Fairy Tail Guild. It was only a few more weeks before the promotion exams, and because of this it has become the unofficial ‘Solo Mission Season’, a majority of the guild going out on their own to improve their own powers as well as studying new powers.

Lex sighed with a smile as she approved Nate to go out to Appaloosa to help with the damage done by a sandstorm that hit earlier in the week. She smiled as she looked over the record of missions, seeing how many had been taken in the past few days alone.

Aside from that, she checked her Archive screen and saw some members reading in the library, training at the training hall, or just hanging out around town. It was these small moments of reflections that her love for her guild just refused to be silent.

She smiled as she heard the door being kicked in again, rolling her eyes as she sat on top of the bar with her records book in hand. Fluttershy, Gilda, Scootaloo and Dawn walked in, the canary pegasus with a small smile, the griffon and orange pegasus with huge grins, and the young colt with a tiny smirk.

“Hey you four, how was the mission?” Lex questioned, relaxing against the bar.

“Without a hitch! Honestly I am sure Scoots could have finished the mission herself.” Gilda praised, the aforementioned pegasus blushing through her fur. They had taken a small mission to help out at Cloudsdale’s storm factory, apparently they had been having some troubles making snow clouds for the upcoming winter. Rainbow was already on another mission, so the four of them decided to go together.

“Sweet. I am glad none of you are hurt or anything.” The guild master said, before turning to Fluttershy as she tapped her shoulder.

“Um, while we were in Cloudsdale, we found this. I was, um, wondering if you knew what it was?” The pegasus questioned before holding something out in her hands.

The object in question was a medallion with by far the oddest looking gemstone Lex had ever seen in it, the stone itself chapped like a prismatic orb, but glowing red, blue and purple mist was swirling inside, as he grabbed it, a voice began to sound from the amulet. “Er… hey, this is Bruno, apparently I’m supposed to say how to summon me, and I’ll show up? God I hope i can edit this… uh… well, take the medallion someplace outside with a lotta loose crap, could be wood logs, dirt, rocks you name it. Just hold out the medallion and call my name three times...kinda like that old movie about dead people?” There was the sound of a loud clang. “OW! Okay, I’ll send it now, there’s no need to hit me!” Another clang sounded. “OW!”

Lex and every member in earshot blinked several times, trying to understand what was said, before the resident human shook her head and sighed.

“Welp, looks like you four found a new token. Guess whoever this belongs to is a little on the awkward side.” Lex muttered the last part, standing from her seat and heading towards the door. She paused at the entrance and called out, “SONBĀSUTA, I'M GOING OUT TO SUMMON A DISPLACED! YOU’RE IN CHARGE TILL I GET BACK!”

“OK! BE CAREFUL!” Was the response from the back near the library. With a small smile, Lex left the building, leaving behind several stunned members at her random yelling.

Lex walked along the path towards the forest, ignoring the indignant squawking she could hear from the guild as everyone snapped out of it. With a smile, she stopped a few minutes into the forest, in another open patch between the trees. She looked around, seeing all the loose dirt, stones and branches, before frowning for a moment.

“Hmm, not enough.” Without any hesitation, she summoned her rapier and slashed through the air, casting. “Orient Script Slice!”

Several trees fell, and Lex slashed again, making some tinder before nodding at the pile she had. She then took out the medallion and spoke.

“Bruno, Bruno….Bruno.”

As the third ‘Bruno’ was spoken, a large portal opened up, and a much larger version of the prismatic orb in the medallion hurtled toward the pile of debris, only for it to slow, then stop in mid air as the wood and stone began to assemble itself, gradually forming a humanoid shape, with leaves forming both hair and a bushy beard, and two geodes acting as eyes. “Huh, feels nice to be big for once…” he said, before turning to Lex, his massive frame enough to dwarf the hulk, let alone Lex, he then looked down to Lex with shock. “Wait how big am I?!”

“A little over ten feet. I guess I went overboard with the material huh?” Lex replied, not looking at all intimidated.

Bruno seemed to heave a sigh of relief. “Oh thank goodness… and here I thought I’d freak out the locals here too…” He then began to fidget slightly “So uh… as you could guess, my name is Bruno, but uh… I guess I should ask yours? Your name I mean?” He bowed at a perfect ninety degrees. “S-sorry! I am not used to talking that much, it’s been lonely since gramps kicked the bucket and gildas not the best company-”

He froze. “Uhhh… that’s too much info for a first meeting… shoot…” He rubbed the back of his head, before turning around and reaching out to make what seemed to be a much smaller version of himself from spare debris, about Levi’s size, this one not having the core that the larger body had, seeming to act as an easier mode of conversation for him.

“This version of me should have an easier time being introduced to the others, I mean, you seem to be well equipped, which likely means you have friends here… gah, can I just stop talking now?”

“Oh by all means, keep going. I can watch this all day.” Lex said with a smirk, leaning on a tree. “So, what’s up. To be perfectly honest I didn’t think all that far ahead before I summoned you.”

Bruno shrugged. “I mean, the guy who showed me how to make tokens said he’d make sure that I’d get sent to people who know their shit with magic. I mean, I'd personally like to get a hang of my cowling, but I don’t even know if you have the time or inclination?” He then readied a fist as if he was about to show her something on it, then focused and the stone of his fist ignited before he extinguished it.

“Apparently I can do most types of magic to some extent that way, but… all I can manage now is fire? Also if you happen to know your version of Pinkie Pie well, I’d like to ask her what would make a good present? Like, from a boyfriend? I uh…” he cleared his throat. “I might be dating my universe's Pinkie pie…”

“How about fresh vanilla-strawberry-mint cupcakes?!” Lex didn’t even react beyond a twitching eye as Pinkie popped up and sat on her shoulders.

“Pinkie, just because you love those cupcakes doesn’t mean his version would.” Lex said, deadpanning before blasting Pinkie off her shoulders, to which the pink mare made a Wave Magic barrier then sending the pulses of magic into her hands to hover like Nejire-Chan.

Bruno looked at Pinkie, his feelings torn. “Well… I kinda want it to be special? I mean, my version of Pinkie loves strawberry and vanilla anything, not so much mint… but… I kinda wanted it to be a thank you gift, as well as a way to ask her out?” He rubbed the back of his head and sighed. “Most of what I think up is kinda mushy gushy stuff, and I want it to be something she can like even if it turns out she doesn’t like me like that…”

He sighed after a while. “Bah, i’ll think about it later… mind if we go meet some more people? I doubt you hanging out in a forest alone is normal, and I doubt anyone would know Pinkie is here.”

“Sure thing.” She then paused before lightly facepalming. “Dammit I keep forgetting. My name's Lex, and I am the master of the Fairy Tail guild. If what you said about someone sending you to someone with magical knowledge, they picked the right place!”

Lex led the giant out of the forest, not even reacting as Pinkie disappeared into a puff of pink smoke, and made their way to the guildhall. Already she could hear the cheers of her guild members, and allowed a fond smile to appear on her face.

“So, you said you can only use Fire magic right now right?” He nodded. “Well, you can probably talk to Spark, he’s our resident fire mage, but we also have a library in the back. It is mostly filled with magic books and other things that I managed to create via Archive and a bunch of blank sheets of paper. We have also been experimenting on creating several other spells and abilities from the media.”

Bruno seemed pensive before looking straight at Lex. “I’ll send in my smaller body, and it’s for the best that I avoid the books...Libraries hate me.” he shuddered in fear for a solid minute before snapping out of it. “A-and uh… have you tried Persona?”

“Yup! I managed to recreate the buffs like Taruda, Sekunda, and even some spells like Eiha and its other forms.” Lex exclaimed, a proud smile on her face.

Bruno nodded. “Here's hoping you never need to use evokers. I am thou thou art I, that is way above my pay grade...wait… when was the last time I got paid?!” He began doing quick math. “Five months! That penny pincher of a sun keister! I could have been improving my workshop with that!”

Lex shook her head in amusement at the beings ranting, before stopping him at the guild. He walked to the side and created that smaller version of himself, this one made completely of stone, before Lex smiled and opened the door.

“Welcome to Fairy Tail.” Lex said with a smile, instinctively dodging a bottle that went flying past her head and crashing right into Brunos face.

He seemed to look around for a moment before finding a marker, to which he then leapt at the tosser of the bottle. “YOU GET A UNIBROW NOW!”

Lex shook her head again and made her way to the bar, easily dodging any flying items and spells in the guildwide brawl. This had been happening more frequently lately now that she thought about it.

She smiled as Zen gave her another smoothie, with some whiskey in it of course, as she watched Flora and Trace run around to avoid Bruno with his marker. Suddenly a third Bruno body walked up to the desk, and wrote on a stone slab it brought in with a marker. “Can I grab them with the earth? I’ll fix the floor after.”

“Yes to the former, but I can handle the repairs. Gotta love time magic.” Lex replied. The third Bruno nodded before leaving, presumably to return to the main body, only for the guild hall to rumble as earthen hands grabbed Flora and Trace, restraining them as mini-Bruno doodled away, giving Flora a unibrow, moustache, and a monocle, while trace just got various rude things drawn on his face. Including derpy eyes over his eyelids!

Bruno then sheathed his marker like a samurai with a sword as they were released. “My revenge… is complete.”

There was a pulse from Trace and his Reflector magic destroyed the hands holding him, then Flora, but they didn’t do anything else but laugh at one another’s faces. Lex rolled her eyes and waved her hand, her Arc of Time rewinding the guild to how it was prior to her leaving.

“Now that that’s done. Spark!” Said unicorn appeared from the kitchen with a mocking salute. “Bruno, this is Hot Spark, like I said, he’s our resident Fire mage. I figured you could talk to him on how to hone your flames before talking to some of the others.”

Bruno looked to Hot spark with wonder. “Will you teach me the ways of the falcon punch, sensei? And the Shoryuken?” He then paused for a moment before muttering. “Wait… maybe it would be better to do this outside...”

He looked to Lex curiously. “Should we practice outside? I should move my core here anyway, even if I don’t see anyone getting near, it just doesn’t feel smart letting something so important be separate from my body of focus… that, and I doubt practicing fire magic inside would be smart.”

“Yeah, that is probably a good idea.” Lex deadpanned before chugging the rest of her smoothie and heading to the door with Spark and Bruno following behind. As they made it to the door, they could hear two female voices talking excitedly.

“Remarkable! I have never seen a golem like this up close!”

“I know! I have never seen one outside of books, so this is incredible!”

“I wonder who made it though? Is Lex practicing with her Marionette Attack magic?”

“No I don’t think so, I read that that magic needs constant output, and after she ‘lets go’ of the spell whatever she used as material just goes back to where it came from.”

Lex raised a brow as the trio left the guild, seeing Reni and Kat looking over Bruno’s body, lightly poking it with curious eyes. The human blinked as Bruno suddenly ran past her and merged with his larger body.

“BAD TOUCH!” All creatures present jumped as Bruno jumped away, shaking the earth beneath him as he landed. Reni and Kat looked to their leader with raised brows but she just sighed and facepalmed.

“Displaced. A very….unique, Displaced.” With that, Reni nodded in understanding as Kat was still a little lost, not 100% understanding the Displaced still.

“Sorry about that big guy. I am kinda a dork when it comes to magic and things I have never seen before.” Reni apologized, the feline-canine hybrid next to her nodding as she bowed apologetically.

Lex managed to stifle a laugh at the golem's reaction. Despite not having any blood in his body, its face nearly combusted and he waved his arms around to get the two mages to stop bowing.

The reason for his embarrassment was Kathrine, who was wearing a low cut kimono that showed off a very generous amount of her ample bust, which Bruno was currently looking down on accident due to the height difference.

‘Seriously, how can someone who was suffering from malnutrition for a large portion of her life be that busty?’ Lex thought to herself. Before being Displaced she would be rather jealous of Kat’s assets, but now in Equestria, she honestly missed being small. Already her back has been starting to get sore from her increased rack, even with how fit she had been getting. ‘I guess that’s the Ying to the Yang of having big boobs. Gods I feel bad for Lucy, Yukino, Uraraka, Yaoyorozu, Hatsume and Tsunade and Samui and….good god I feel bad for so many characters.’

With a smile, she clapped her hands to get the others attention. “Alright that’s enough. If you two want, you can come with. Spark and I were going to teach Bruno here some fire magic at the training grounds.”

“Hmm, I do need to get back to my workout from the doctors.” Kat said, reaching into her kimono and taking out a sheet of paper that had her needed exercises on it. “You guys can go on ahead while I get changed into some workout clothes.”

Reni, Spark and Lex all nodded as the hybrid left for the barracks/apartments, before the trio led the large golem to the back of the guild where the teleporter was located. Bruno was momentarily disoriented as they all teleported to the training grounds, but recollected himself, literally, as they made their way in. He was forced to split and shrink himself to get through the front door though.

“Alrighty. We’re going to head to one of the side ranges that is mostly used by the newcomers who are just starting to learn their magic. From there Spark and I will be going over the basics with you before anything else.” Lex explained, opening the doors to a large area that was visibly enchanted to keep any magic spells from causing collateral damage. There were also several targets and test dummies lining the walls just waiting to be used.

Spark and Reni set up some of the targets down range while Lex led Bruno to the side, making sure to check the enchantment for any wear-and-tear to make sure there are no accidents. With a nod to herself, Reni stepped past Bruno to a nearby bench and took out a notepad of her own while Spark and Lex helped Bruno out with the basics.

Luckily to the two mages, Bruno seemed to take their instructions like a fish to water. Quickly Bruno managed to learn how to summon fireballs around himself and on his body, making flaming fists and Spark was even going over how to change the colour of the flames, even if just for aesthetics.

Meanwhile, another body of Bruno was talking with Reni about his own world and what he does back home. The dragoness was smiling wide at all the info she was getting, her magi-scientist mind filled with intrigue and happiness.

After not long Spark had Bruno begin to actually practice by launching fireballs to test how far they would fly and also create a single ball of fire in his hand that he would then increase in both size and heat before shrinking and cooling it.

“These exercises have been a major help to me when I am practicing with my magic, so being able to master altering the size and temperature of your flame is a must.” The stallion explained.

Lex was talking with Bruno’s other body that she had begun teaching other elements. Bruno had said that while he was starting to use Fire, he could use other elements, so Lex is teaching Bruno how to try and use four other elements.

“Are you seriously trying to have me do the Elemental Chakra Control exercises?” The dead tone of voice from the golem very nearly faltered in amusement as Lex presented him with several leaves from a tree.

“Hey, they work just as well for control!” Lex defended, blushing at being called out by someone who knew what it was. “I have been testing them out a lot to gain better control of my magic and it works just as well. I think.”

“You think?”

“Hey I have massive magic reserves like Naruto does Chakra reserves! This is hard for me.” The pout was unnecessarily adorable from the young woman as she grabbed one of the leaves and focused her wind magic on it. A second later, it was green confetti. She waved her hands at the floating leaf pieces. “See! I have trouble with control! I was trying to make one cut from stem to head!”

Bruno tried, he really did, but seeing Lex’s reaction was too much. He suddenly fell over laughing his nonexistent heart out at the mages actions. Spark and Reni were less over the top, but they did laugh as well. Lex just pouted and turned her head with a huff, emulating a certain diminutive ESPer.

After all the laughter died down, Bruno went back to his exercises, with Lex and Spark coaching him on how to get the best results. Bruno allowed his thoughts to drift a bit as he quickly got the hang of the exercises.

‘Well, this is easier than I thought it would be.’

A few hours later….

“So you understand the exercises to practice at home.” Lex asked again.

“Yeah, I got it. Try and do those Chakra and mana exercises when I have free time.” Bruno replied, adjusting the small medallion around where his neck would be. Reni, Kat and Spark had come along to see the large golem off as he was to return back to his world.

“Don’t sass me golem, those exercises are important to properly control your magic.” Lex stated, before perking up. “Oh yeah, I almost forgot!” Lex teleported away, confusing the group, before she suddenly appeared again with what looked like a book in her hands, but the material was different. “You said that libraries hated you and you have some bad experience with paper, so I made this small journal out of leather that contains some spell for you to use. Nothing too dangerous, just some fireballs, water bursts, wind blades etc.”

Bruno smiled appreciatively as he placed the ‘book’ into his personal hammer space, before turning as behind him, a large portal opened up.

“Well, thanks for all the help Lex, Spark, Reni, Kat. If you guys need a hand, feel free to call.” He said before turning to the portal. Lex and the others all sent him a thumbs up as he vanished.

“So, who wants drinks?” All the non-humans immediately turned and began to run to the guild while their leader was shaking her head in amusement.

‘Never a dull moment. Gods I love Fairy Tail.’
