Chapter 36: A Fairies Journey Begins

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

One Week Later....

I took a breath as I waited on the guild rooftop, waiting for Celestia and Luna to arrive with their platoons for the trip and for our third friend to arrive with her crew and Capper. The past week had been....not hectic, but definitely busy.

The airship I had spent a good few days fully charging to get it air/water worthy, double checking and then triple checking everything to make sure all the functions are working as intended. While I was doing that, Sonbā, Echo and Emerald, the only ones who knew where the airship was located, had been playing courier and going back and forth between the guild and the supply ships Celestia sent that had the supplies, and the airship to get it fully stocked and ready for its maiden voyage.

The members had spent their time grabbing what they needed to bring, training to sharpen up their magic, or trying to relax and mentally prepare for the trip.

Zecora had spent the first couple of days at her home, creating numerous plants to make even more numerous potions for the trip. I am really glad I gave her a ‘Shrinking Trunk’ TM, to store not only her potions, but basically an entire chemistry set in so that she can make any new potions on the go if needed. All in a trunk that shrinks to the side of a large wallet for her to store in her pocket.

The Guard Trio as I call them had spent most of the week training at the gym or studying in the library, preparing themselves for anything and making sure their magics are up to par with anyone we may encounter that may try and fight us. Kat even joined them, going to her limits with her sword and magic.

Aspen had been spending as much time with Maddie as possible, even spending the day with her and Era when the tomcat came by to check on them the other day.

Spike and the rest of the dragons had been sparing with each other, sharpening their skills and inventing new spells for the trip, both offensive and defensive.

I took a swig of some of my juice I brought with me, then smiled as I spotted a couple of dots leaving Canterlot and heading our way. I took out a Telepathy Card and zeroed in on Capper.

“Hey Capper? How far are you?”

“About another jump out. You know, we’re making good time all things considered.” Came the reply from a slightly out of breath Capper.

“And the crew?”

“Ready and willing to start flying again. A shame their ship was destroyed before I found them.”

“Tell them to double check themselves when they arrive and that they need to have memorized the manuals. I can’t afford for the ship to fail during its maiden voyage.”

“Roger that boss.”

I cut the connection with Capper before connecting to the other members, Telepathically announcing that the princesses were on their way and it was time to gather up so we can leave.

I jumped down the from rooftop, landing softly onto the grass as the guild all gathered near the apartments, in front of, what appeared to be a large empty lot. Unknown to most of them, there is something there instead of an empty field.

I glanced around the members, seeing many of them were packed up with several suitcases, boxes and a few other supplies. I perked up as I heard a high pitched whine-like sound, like a high wind.

Everyone turned, seeing Capper arrive via his Direct Line, and behind him was a small crowd of about ten creatures. The members blinked a couple times, not expected this, while I walked up with a smile, one of the creatures walking up with a matching smile on her beak.

“Hey, Faekage Lex. It’s been a while!”

“That it has. Thanks for agreeing to come by Captain Celaeno.” I shook her talon-like hand.

“Hey, none of that. I told you to call me Cel!” The anthropomorphic parrot said, tipping her tricorn hat. Capper and I had met her one time when we went back to Klugetown to double check for any remaining members of that black market we destroyed.

The pirate captain at first was very weary of us, especially when I mentioned I was friends with the princesses, but once I shared a couple stories about the guild, she started to warm up to us. I didn’t really need to report her or anything, Celaeno had mostly been raiding other pirates and members of the Storm Kingdom, who we learned was responsible for the destruction of at least five other civilizations aside from the Abyssians. Including her home, an island called Ornithia.

The day after we got the quest from Celestia, I sent Capper to find the pirate and her crew, who luckily had one of my locator cards with them after I offered her and her crew a place at Fairy Tail if things ever got too hard. What was odd was that the locator card was on a beach on the edge of the sea.

When Capper went to find them, he found their ship destroyed and many of them injured and exhausted. He managed to get them to a guard outpost for medical treatment, a majority of the crew only having minor injuries and a couple of concussions.

The guards at first were very weary about treating pirates, but a flash of the guild emblem and many jumped at the chance to help.

Apparently Celaeno got a little too cocky, attacking another supply ship to the Storm Kingdom, but it was more heavily armed, even having a higher ranking soldier, some unicorn with a broken horn apparently, and they managed to beat the pirates off. The pirates only lost a couple of members, but their ship was too damaged, they barely managed to get closer to the Equestrian shore before they crashed, about an hour before Capper found them.

After most of them were healed enough to leave, they left the guard post, wanting to get back out there and into the air again. That is where Capper delivered my request. I may be able to create hundreds of Kage Bushin, but I was a total novice with things like nautical and aerial navigation, so I planning on hiring them to help escort us.

They agreed almost immediately when I told them, via telepathy card, that I made a new airship and I needed a crew. At first, she thought it was a joke, before I used a small quirk of the spell woven into the card to send an image of the ship to her and her crew. They jumped at the chance to fly this baby on her first flight, and well, here we are.

“So, where is the girl?” The avian questioned, rubbing her talons together. I grinned and walked over to the invisible building, and tapped a couple of key locations. The area began to distort, a prism-like wave covering the large building, revealing it to the crowd, who all jumped. It was a simple brown wood building the looked like a warehouse, with a slanted rooftop. I opened the door, waving the pirates through the door to see the new ship.

The group of avians ran in while I sent in a clone, who smirked and took out some books for the crew. I grinned and closed the door before the others could go in, wanting it to be a surprise.

“So, who was that?” Trace asked the question everyone wanted answered.

“Oh that was Celaeno, she’s a pirate captain.”

“A pirate?!” I grinned at the yell, seeing many were shocked, excited and worried.

“Yup! Don’t worry, she really nice once you get to know her. Capper and I ran into a while back. Anyways, if you hold yourselves for a few more minutes, the princesses should be here in a few minutes.” I pointed behind them, letting them see that the princesses own ships are nearly here. There were two, one in white and gold with a solar motif. The other was black and blue with a lunar motif. It didn’t take a genius to know who’s was who’s.

It had only been five minutes before the two ships arrived above us, two familiar alicorns jumping down from the ships to the crowd below. I noticed that while Celestia was in her regular dress and jewellery, Luna was in her casual wear she usually wears in the guild. Complete with Cosmos in her arms.

“Hello Lex, are you and your selected mages all ready?” Celestia questioned, before frowning as she looked over the large crowd of the guild.

“Yup. We’re all ready to go. The crew is just doing final checks on the ship.” I stated, just in time too since before Celestia or Luna could form a response, there was the sound of something powering up followed by the shifting of large gears.

Everyone turned to the airship garage, seeing the roof opening outwards before a form began to lift off straight up from the garage.

Large enough to house the entire guild, the airship is very large, consisting of a central hull at whose sides are located two larger, elongated part jutting frontwards. It was flying via several large magical glyphs floating near it, with a pair of them being located behind it, at the ends of the protruding sections, something which makes them highly reminiscent of propulsion, and an even more massive one sitting under it. The hull's shape is that of a real boat, possessing an arched, pointed lower part, ending on the front in a dark section which houses a gold Fairy Tail Symbol, with an open zone right above it, where the main hall is located.

Such hall is topped by a dark, arched roof reminiscent of a capsized hull, on whose back part sits yet again another, similarly-shaped tower, sprouting from the main hull and going up several meters, which ends in a massive observation deck protruding frontwards, complete with large windows. At the tower's sides, on the dark roof, is a pair of large, wing-shaped ornaments jutting upwards; a similar pair of wings is also present on the airship's protruding sections, with one of them adorning each outer side. The two attached sections of the ship possess frontal, protruding dark parts reminiscent of rostrums, each adorned by a light motif, somewhat similar to a stylized monstrous head. Both the hull and the two adjacent sections bear linear blank parts, where a multitude of square windows is lined up one after the other, these being highly reminiscent of hatch’s.

It was an exact replica of the Grimoire Heart Airship if a fair bit smaller. Though, it was in different colours, the originally black parts being a sky blue, the silver parts being golden and the red parts being orange. Finally the magic propulsion circles were white with a blue outline.

I grinned at the dropped jaws of pretty much everyone in the crowd, even the princesses who saw the blueprints. The airship slowly rose into the air above us before turning and taking lead point in front the royal ships.

“And now you know why I hired Cel and her crew.” I stated to the stunned mages, and the crowd of Ponyvillians who came to see us off.

“H-how is that thing working!? What is powering it!?” Twilight and Trixie were freaking out, but I just grinned.

“Oh, just a lacrima that works almost exactly the same way the Tree of Harmony works that I was experimenting with for a while after scanning the magical energy of the tree.” I explained with as straight a face as I could muster. The royal sisters jaws dropped lower as I stated that, before a magic circle appeared below the airship, which worked as a teleporter as one of the pirates appeared.

“Ahoy! This beauty is ready for her maiden voyage! All Fairy Tailer’s aboard!” The avian yelled before teleporting back to the deck. I chuckled as the mages were slowly regaining their senses.

“You heard the bird. All aboard!” I yelled, spiralling wind appearing around me as I used my Wind magic to fly up, quickly followed by all those with wings or those who had magic that let them fly. Meanwhile those that couldn’t fly walked up to the teleporter and used it to appear in the main hall/covered deck of the airship.

The large window cover retracted several windows, allow myself and those that flew to fly in, arriving as the others appeared at the entrance near the end of the deck. It was about as large as the royal throne room in Canterlot, so there was plenty of room, which I used by have several tables that retract into the floor so this could become a second mess hall incase anyone wanted to watch the sky above.

“Ahoy Faekage!” Celaeno greeted from behind the controls. I made it so the steering wheel was exactly like that of other ships, but there as also several magical dials, pedals and switches around it for the controls and monitors, which I used Download so the crew knew what to look for. “This baby is flying pretty. All magical output and input ratios at acceptable levels. No identified opening in the hull or missing parts detected. We’re good to go!”

I grinned, turning to the stunned guild as they looked out the windows, snapping my finger, both gaining their attention, and summoning several sheets of paper.

“These are maps of the airship. Their specifically enchanted to show your current location so you don’t get lost.” I explained as I handed the maps out. I heard several groans nearby, and nearly facepalmed as I turned to the dragons, who were all covering their mouths. “Seriously guys, we’re not even moving yet!”

“Can’t....help....feel....so sick.” Reni muttered, barely stopping herself from throwing up. The others weren’t much better, Spike was leaning out a window while Fizzle was laying on his stomach, trying to keep it in. Laruma and Amber were supporting each other, the dragonesses barely managing to keep themselves from face planting. I rolled my eyes and sighed, so glad I added that little addition for the dragon slayers greatest weakness. Motion sickness.

“Captain!” The avian at the wheel turned to me. “Activate the equilibrium stabilizer.” The pirate saluted me and pressed a couple of buttons on the ships wheel. At first nothing appeared to happen, then the floor lit up like a prism before stopping. The dragons all blinked, before cheering as they got to their feet.

“Oh my gods that is so much better.” Spike muttered, wiping his drool from his mouth. “I was worried I’d be about to hurl the whole trip.”

“You wouldn’t be able to last a day, let alone a week Spike.” Stated the snickering Scootaloo, who found the Dragon Slayer’s greatest weakness to be utterly hilarious. The dragon began chasing the speed mage, who used her magic to great degree. I rolled my eyes at their antics as the crew and the guild members began to read their maps.

I dug into my Requip dimension and pulled out two communication Lacrimas, handing them to the princesses. “Here you two. Use these and we can keep in touch with each other from across the ships.” I stated, earning a slow nod from the still clearly stunned sisters.

“Mama up!” I looked down at Yoru who was suddenly next to me, reaching her arms out. I smiled as I picked her up, walking to the bow of the ship, looking down at the crowd of Ponyville resident who were waving us off.

“You ready sweetie? Time for our first great adventure.” I whispered, playing with her hair as she cheered. I turned to the crew and the guild members, who all nodded, the princesses nodding as well as they flew out and towards their own ships. A couple minutes later, I heard the ping from the communication lacrima that meant they were set up and ready to go. “Captain, it’s time to go! Let’s head out!”

“Understood Faekage!” The avian turned to a microphone nearby. “All hands brace, we are leaving now!”

There was a small lurch, like a train leaving the station, before the propulsion seals released a low hum and we began to move. I had the captain match the princesses escorts in speed, not wanting to run ahead even if we are taking the lead.

I walked forward just passed the bow of the ship, walking through the barrier separating the deck from a balcony on the outside. The wind immediately began to whip my hair, making me smile at the sensation, my youngest daughter laughing at the sensation, absentmindedly flapping her wings.

I sighed as the wind blew my hair, I am sure making a picturesque image, before turning back to the main hall, seeing the members still standing around, some looking out the window, some reading the maps, some just talking to one another. I rolled my eyes and released a quick whistle, earning everyone’s attention again.

“Alright, now that we’re off, I suppose its time for the tour!” I smiled, immediately heading to the side hall, quickly followed by the rest of the guild. We walked for about a minute before arriving at the first section. “Here we have the elevators and stairs. There are about five different levels that connect to them, including this one, so if you ever need to get anywhere, you’ll have to take them or fly around.”

Walking down the stairs to the fourth level, one below us, I smiled as we entered a long hallway with several doors on connected to the walls and a dark blue carpeted floor. “This is the barrack. Each room is furnished like the apartments, one large twin-sized bed, a small bathroom, clothing drawers etc. There is about a hundred rooms, so there is plenty of room, especially since a lot of you normally share.” I grinned as many either nodded or scratched the back of their heads. “I’ll let you guys pick your rooms, and whoever will be sharing with you. Come by the elevators afterwards so we can continue.”

I walked back to the stairs and elevators as the guild got situated, many grabbing the closest room while the kids stuck to their respective guardians, with the exceptions of Dawn and Bertha, the former who just went by himself and the latter who knew she wouldn’t be able to share the room with her uncle.

I stayed by the elevator, watching some of Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid on my phone, my youngest tilting her head as we watched the slice of life on screen. God Tohru is hilarious. Not sure how long we were watching before I heard the doors begin to open.

Eventually everyone gathered again and we made our way down to the next level, near the middle of the ship. “This level is mostly for storage and the cafeteria is nearby. I also made it so this level houses most of the crew, since I felt they would want to get first cracks at the meals of the day.” I explained, walking over to the kitchen before coming back with an apple that I was munching on. “There’s also a small game room just down the hall with some pool tables and darts and stuff, so we don’t all have to stay in our rooms the whole trip.” Walking down the stairs again, the heat began to increase.

“This level is mostly for transitions and plumbing. There are pipes that change and expel the waste from the ship as well as recycles and purifies the water for us. There is also the magical energy pipes that run around the ship that focus here and the air conditioning unit.” I stopped right at the stairs to the next level, pointing downwards. “Just below us is the engine room, which houses the lacrima responsible for this place staying in the air. Several of my clones are already down there triple checking to make sure this place who spontaneously explode, and so far everything is working properly.”

I shook my head at my poor joke. “Anyways, while you lot are allowed down there, please don’t go down there unless there is a legit reason. The equipment down there is seriously sensitive and I don’t want anyone tampering with and messing anything up.” I stated, earning resolute nods from pretty much everyone. I turned and headed down another hallway, and up a flight of stairs before we arrived at the ‘main hall’, just below the control deck. It was about twice the length of the royal throne room, so about one and a half times the size of the magical range with the ceiling being about twenty feet up, making plenty of flying room.

“Here is the main hall, where you all can use to practice your magics. However, be mindful, I really don’t want to constantly be repairing the ship from you guys training.” I frowned, earning many a nod again. I had set several targets, both static and moving to use, so there will be no shortage of training in here.

Suddenly the speakers crackled as Celaeno’s voice came up. “Ladies and gentlecreatures we will be reaching the borders of Las Pegasus in a few minutes before beginning our voyage out to sea. Pardon for any turbulence we may encounter as we pass through the pegasus controlled airspace.”

I smiled, walking over to the stairs. “Come on everyone, let’s head back up topside. We should be able to see the ocean from there.” I grinned, racing up the stairs, the child on my shoulders cheering all the way as I ran up the flights of stairs before arriving at the main deck. With another nod to the captain, I walked to the balcony, smiling as I could already smell the sea air. The movie centre of Equestria, Applewood was passing by to the west of us, the large Hollywood inspired sign clearly visible. Just below us was a sandy desert-like area that lead to the ocean, the large blue expanse already visible.

“Pretty!” I smiled up at my youngest daughter, taking off my shoulders and into my arms.

“You said it honey. It really is pretty. And we’re going over it to reach a new land.” I playfully explained, earning a bubbly smile in return as Yoru went back to watching the world fly by us. Hearing a small commotion behind me, I turned and saw everyone else finally made it up, most of the younger members running to one of the balconies nearby. My girls and Sonbā came over to my side, steadying themselves as the wind hit them.

I smiled and turned back to look over the horizon, seeing the ocean coming closer and closer. I didn’t even react when I felt Sonbā wrap his arms and wings around me, just leaning into his chest as the girls managed to get around us to peek over the railings.

“The ocean! I wanted to see it so bad!” Ammy cheered, her tail going hypersonic in excitement. I chuckled and rubbed her ears, earning a happy yelp from her.

“This is my kind of place.” Mei stated, smiling. I knew she was only saying that since she was an Ocean God Slayer, originally having a little trouble with swimming before getting it down before the promotion exam a few months ago. Since then she spent most of her free time at the lake, just swimming around or testing her magic, often staying under for double digit minutes at a time.

“Well, maybe we’ll see about visiting Seaquestria some time.” I grinned at my stallion as he said that, placating our eldest as she shook in excitement. Arakunia just looked out over the expanse with stars in her eyes, watching in awe as the land and clouds passed us by. There were several clouds below us, but a small Air magic enchantment made the low air up at this altitude breathable.

“Hehe, this is going to be a fun trip, I can tell.”

A Few Days Later....

“So, we should be coming up on the rendezvous spot to meet with our escorts to Zebrica.” Celestia stated. I was sitting in a meeting room in the solar princesses ship alongside Celaeno, Luna, the Element Bearers, and the representatives of each pony trips that were coming with for the meeting.

There was of course the obnoxious Blueblood that was representing the unicorns of Equestria, but it seemed even he recognized the seriousness of the situation as he had be borderline nice basically the entire trip, even when he came onto my ship to look for Luna and stayed for a bite to eat.

There was the Earth Pony representative Ground Rumble, the mayor of Las Pegasus, his dirt brown fur matching well with his lighter sandy brown hair tied into a small ponytail.

The Pegasus representative was actually someone Rainbow was a big fan of, Spitfire. Not only was she the representative, but also the captain of the Wonderbolts and the daughter of the mayor of Cloudsdale, so her being here was a no brainer for now.

Finally there was Midnight Streak, mayor of the Thestral hometown of the Sleepless Cove and the representative of the Thestrals. Her midnight purple fur matched well with her navy blue mane and bright gold eyes.

“Who will be meeting us on the island auntie?” Blueblood questioned.

“According to the letter I got from the prince, a couple of not just his personal guards, but also the personal guards of the other rulers of Zebrica.” I blinked a couple of times, surprised by the amount of security.

Contrary to what its name may suggest, Zebrica wasn’t only ruled by zebras. While they were the major species on the country, there are other sentient species with their own rulers and representatives.

If what Zecora told me was to be believed, and it should be true since she only left her country a few years ago, there are zebras, gazelle, apes, ‘lamias’, and a small minority of carnivorous creatures like lions and cheetahs. But again, the carnivores are the minority, so they were treated less than spectacularly.

I am curious about meeting these supposed Lamia myself, I wonder if they look like the legends back home, or if they are something else entirely.

“We should be arriving in a day or so, till then there isn’t much we can do. We’ve been really luckily there hasn’t been any storms or anything. So we are actually ahead of schedule.” Celaeno stated, looking through some papers.

“Indeed Captain. We should be arriving at Zebrica itself within a day or two, a whole two days ahead of schedule.” The guard captain for Luna’s night guard stated, looking over the avian’s shoulder.

“Faekage, has your guild been studying the country and its laws?” Spitfire questioned.

“Yup. Zecora and Twilight have been drilling the rules into everyone heads the entire trip, so at this point I am pretty sure even Maeve and Yoru could recite them back with ease.” I told the pegasus, earning a nod from pretty much everyone.

“I try.” The unicorn grinned, earning a good natured eye roll from her friends.

“Well, I think that is everything for now. The Yokai representative should arrive in a few days after we land, so there is plenty of time to get situated and to start the first drafts of the treaties.” Celestia stated. “Thank you all for your time, dismissed.”

The small crowd made their way out of the meeting room. Blueblood and Ground Rumble were staying on this ship, while Spitfire and Midnight were staying on Lunas’.

I walked over to the main deck and used my Territory magic to make a portal to our ship, letting the girls through first before I followed suit. The mobile guildhall was proving to be a godsend during the trip since there has been nothing major happening, unlike at home when it is a new event every other day.

The girls all made their ways into the ship, planning on doing I don’t know what, while I walked over to the balcony again. I found I have been spending most of the trip on this balcony, just sitting on the railing and letting the sea air and wind whip by me, most of the time while I was reading a book or watching something on my Gummy Phone. I have also been spending some time on one of Uncle Ed’s gifts, a laptop that somehow has a connection to earth via the Void Network, similar to a Stargate, but only allows viewing when not in use to create a portal.

When I am not here on the balcony, I am wandering the ship, checking on all the members, just watching what they are doing to pass the time.

Some were obvious. Trixie, Twilight, Raine, Trace, Reni and Sythe spending time in the library, which had copies of several books from the guild via duplication spells.

Pinkie, Flora, Zen, Violet and Adria spent most of their time in the kitchen, cooking for the guild and the crew.

Rainbow, Applejack, Azure, Aspen and Cobalt spent most of the trip in the small gym, working out and making sure they are as physically fit as they are magically powerful. Even Scootaloo and Dawn spent a good chunk of the trip in the gym.

Kathrine, Star Burst, Applebloom, Sweetie Belle and Verdant spent a good chunk of the trip at the range, practicing with their long rang spells, especially Applebloom and Sweetie Belle, the two fillies wanting to keep up with their other two members.

The rest of the guild spent their time how they wanted, some hanging around, some training, some simply relaxing in their rooms, and some having fun with each other. The CMC had a large sleepover in Applejack’s room the other night with every other kid on the ship with Sonbā watching them, so they definitely weren’t bored.

I sighed as I looked over the large blue expanse, before narrowing my eyes at a small dot on the horizon, coming up fast. I walked back into the ship, seeing Celaeno was once again at the helm.

“Captain! Land sighted. Bring up the scanners on screen.” I stated, earning a salute as the parrot pressed several buttons, before several of the windows turned black then showing an image.

A few miles and a couple minutes away from us was a small island, barely bigger than Ponyville itself, with several boats anchored at what looked like a small outpost. There was several creatures milling about, but we were still too far away to get a good look at them.

“Well, looks like we’re nearly there. Cel, can you call up the members to tell them we’re nearing the outpost. I don’t want anyone to be caught flatfooted.”

“Aye aye Faekage.” I rolled my eyes as she began to talk into the mic next to her to let the guild know we’re nearly there.

Maybe it was just my imagination, but I couldn’t help but feel like something else was coming. Maybe I was just thinking about the guild bad luck, but I want this to go perfectly.

And I know that that hope always dies during the first conflict.
