Chapter One : A Very Particular Sleepover
Sometimes, I just don’t get my friends.
Take for example Twilight Sparkle.
It all started because of her, somehow. Apparently, her first sleepover was such a huge success (even if Applejack and Rarity said they barely averted disaster) that everypony she knew had to try them, at least once every two weeks.
It was a hot summer afternoon and not because of the sheer presence of yours beloved and the fruit of her hard work, at Twilight’s, reading a book. It was a Monday, on Monday we always have those little reading sessions together. They’re fun but kind of dull. Because of some unwritten rule, somepony can’t even comment on a particularly good book without eliciting angry “shhs” from an egghead who we shouldn’t mention (Twilight). In fact, it began with me, quietly expressing my appreciation for a hilarious Daring Do quip.
“Buahahahahahahhha!With a pineapple! Ahahahaha! Hold me, Twi! My belly!”
What? You can still be quiet while rolling on the floor. Only I and five other ponies in all Equestria can do that.
She sighed, noticeably annoyed by it. Maybe she could find a spell to give herself a better sense of humor.
“Do you have to do that every 34 pages? And before you ask, I counted…”
“Why am I not surprised by that? Maybe you’re the one that is doing everything but reading in here.”
“You do this so often, I can’t concentrate on…what I was reading? Aah! You made me forget!” She quickly turned the book to see the cover with her magic. “Oh, yes! The Memories of Clover the Clever: Part Two!”
“Mine is better. I’ll just wait for the movie of that one.” Coming soon to a very crummy theater. Two tickets sold: one for Twilight and one for me, when she’s forcing me to see it for this joke.
“I bet if it was a biography of Commander Hurricane you would love it.”
“No way! Did she write one? Where is it?” I jumped in the air flying all around in the library.
“No, she didn’t even write a grocery list…”
Curse you for always crushing my hopes.
“So…” she broke the silence. “I’m planning a sleepover this Saturday.”
“And?” I answered.
“And what? Did I forget something?”
“You’re not even asking me if I want to come.” A legitimate question. Sometimes her braniac behavior overcame good manners.
“Why? Are you doing something else for a change?” she almost snickered.
The nerve of someponies…
“I could ask you the same! We don’t do much at your place.”
She showed her goofiest smile “But it’s going to be fun!”
“And who, if I may ask, is coming too? And you and Spike don’t count.”
“Well, the other girls, of course.”
“Oh, yes! Always new and fresh ponies…” I rolled my eyes. Sometimes I’d like her to face the fact that only the five of us are willing to do this. But that would be mean and I respect her too much for saying that…well, not that much!
“Oh, like you have so many other friends” She waved her hoof at me with a dismissive look.
“Hey! I have a lot of other friends! I have so many friends I could swim in them!”
“Name one!” She clearly wanted to provoke me. I never backed down from a challenge. But she really took me by surprise with that one. Luckily I spot Flitter passing by, outside the balcony window.
“Flitter!”
“Really? Flitter?” she said almost…disappointed by my choice.
“Yes, Flitter! I’m hanging out with Flitter! Any problems?”
“No, no. But…does she know?” That time she was half-snickering.
“Oh, she will!” I said with all of my pride. I ran to the library’s balcony and I waved at Flitter to make her notice me.
“HEY! FLITTER!” I shouted.
“WHAAAAAT?” Flitter answered, to the surprise of Twilight who was almost knocked down by her voice from the other side.
“Do you want to hang out this Saturday?!”
“I’m sorry, chief. I can’t.”
“Why?”
“I have a date!!”
“Really? And who is it?”
“SNOWFLAKE!”
“SNOWFLAKE???” That turn of events took me by surprise. And I still can’t believe it…No offense to Snowflake but the girl is way beyond his league…
“YEAH! He’s such a nice pony, if you know him well! In fact, he’s the nicest pony I’ve ever met! I like him!”
Snowflake? Nice? In the same sentence? Maybe Twilight had a point…
My mind boggled, refusing to accept what she said...And to this very day I still don’t know what she sees in him.
“Well, have fun then!“ A little pause, I still needed to digest the information.“WITH SNOWFLAKE!”
“I WILL! THANKS RAINBOW DASH!”
And of course Twilight was rolling on the floor with laughter. You win this round, egghead…
The point is, how could she predict with all her brainpower that five growing ponies all under the same roof couldn’t resist to the charm and beauty of the awesomest of all of them? Well, I certainly couldn’t…In fact I would do me in a flash! Twice a day if I’m in the mood! But I digress…
After finishing the book and leaving the library I wanted to rest a little, thinking of what to do resting on a cozy cirrus nearby. Until Applejack and Rarity arrived.
Now Applejack and Rarity.Oh boy, Applejack and Rarity…How could I say no to AJ? Especially when she literally lassoes you from a nearby cloud, drags you by your tail, while the other one speaks so sugary sweet and sophisticated.“Oh, Rainbow Dash! Always so coy about everything you think is girly! Can’t you just have fun like the rest of us?”
They must’ve been hired by Twilight to make sure I couldn’t refuse this absolutely wonderful sleepover.

“That’s curious,” Rarity interrupts. “Twilight said that immediately after making a fool of yourself, pardon me for the term, you escaped from the library by flying as fast as you could!”
Yes, I left that little detail out. So sue me.
“So it’s understandable that she was confused by that reaction, hence she asked us to assure of your presence or at least of your health.”
I notice I'm leaving an even bigger Rainbow Dash shaped trail in the ground below than I thought, so I have to give up.
Applejack complies, mostly because I was wriggling so hard, by spitting out my tail.
“Well, Ah’m glad we settled this down peacefully!”says Applejack with a big, complacent smile on her face.
“I couldn’t live on if you weren’t.” Another bout of sarcasm that I know will go to waste.
“Peaceful for your standards, darling.To be honest I was against this approach but Applejack here was so adamant…”
“Ah said before that our Rainbow here is tougher than she looks an’ don’t tell me you didn’t enjoy it.” She blinked at Rarity, which she answers with a blush and a smarmy giggle.
“Oh, Celestia knows if I would enjoy that…!” And of course, they start leaning seductively toward each other. The sultry look is a plus.
I cough a little to remind that I still exist, even if not in the best condition…and for avoiding the coming of adult situations in
The two are almost startled, as I distracted them from some entrancing heaven that only existed in each other’s eyes.“Whoa, sorry sugarcube. So...are ya coming or not?”
I lift myself from the ground with my wings, patting my coat to get rid of the dirt. “Yeah, yeah…You’re insisting so much. How can I refuse?”
“I’m glad you will,” says Rarity. “I know you may think unkindly of us for that but…”
“Yes, I do!”
“But seriously Rainbow,” Rarity continues. “Recently you’ve been acting strange. It’s like you’ve been avoiding us lately. You spend most of your time at home or reading at Twilight’s.”
“Ah haven’t even seen ya at my last rodeo!” Applejack joins in. “Everypony was there cheering for me, except for ya. “
Please, AJ. Don’t make me feel guiltier than I already am for that.
“Y-yeah…I told you about that! I was practicing! I heard Spitfire was in town so I wanted to show her my best moves and I couldn’t miss that chance…” Not my best lie, but at least it holds up. Or it would if AJ didn’t raise her eyebrow in suspicion.
The look of her eye says clearly: “I’m not convinced. Not at all.”
And of course she couldn't say that to my face. “If you say so, sugarcube…”
“Yeah!That’s what I just said!” A nervous and goofy grin appears on my face like an automatic reflex. I have to go away. I need to run, at least from her…
“You know what I should do? Tell Fluttershy! She doesn’t know it yet…probably!” As I say this I try to step back as far as I could. From an outside observer I’d look like a crab…A particularly cowardly crab…
“Oh yes!” Rarity practically screams. “How could we let poor Fluttershy out? It is your job…neigh, your duty to go inform her quickly!”
“Well, she just had to say it, right? Bye, girls!” And once again, two times on the same day, I have to run away from my friends because I just don’t know how to react. At least the first time it was funnier, I have to admit.
As I turn to see the two happily chatting while going on their merry way, I can’t help to feel something I never thought I would feel: envy.
I mean the uncouth farmer and the refined stylist who make their social barriers disappear in favor of their mutual passion is kinda cute. Really cute, since they’ve been together for a few months already and it’s still working perfectly. Maybe it’s because I’m a bit cynical. I’m nopony to judge what my friends do and surely I’m not jealous because I had this massive crush on AJ…
And I just couldn’t hide that, not even from myself, could I? Well, whether I admit itor not, it’s too late now to make a move on her…Just as was before since I couldn’t do it because she was one of my dearest friends and, as far as I know, it never works between friends. That’s why I couldn’t even ask her out, I was afraid I would’ve ruined everything. And of course I would…Whenever I make the first step it’s always a disaster! Apparently somepony, mare or stallion, finds my energetic approach a little too intense for their tastes. Is it a sin to be competitive and happy to be alive in this small town? Apparently, yes! Because everypony feels somehow intimidated by me…except AJ…No, she only was the first one to challenge me openly, but proved to be more than a match for me on many occasions and never felt threatened once. Actually, she saw right through my crap more times than I could count.
The only pony in which I saw an equal.And an awesome friend, too. Was it a mistake feeling a little…kinda…a lot attracted by her? Since I’m the one talking and, thus, I can’t be contradicted, no it wasn’t.
I just couldn’t step in and tell her how I felt, and when Rarity came into the picture I lost my chance entirely. Being together with a friend is one thing but becoming a rival to another one? No, thanks.I have standards.
I could feel some compassion for little Spike. Poor little guy always had a crush on Rare, but now I think he has to move on to another pony. Or another dragon, even though I didn’t see any female dragon during that migration…Note to self: Ask Twilight how does a female dragon looks like.
Wait...if only few ponies can tell apart males from females, what if Spike…Is actually a girl?!
So, I’m an idiot. What, are you perfect?
I float down, until I spot Fluttershy’s cottage in the distance. I see her desperately trying to catch Angel while keeping a carrot between her teeth. I really don’t get that bunny. Free shelter and food and you’re still such a jerk to one of the nicest ponies ever? At least Tank is less demanding and a lot nicer… Speaking of my tortoise, I try to scream to make her notice him but no avail. She trips over my pet, which remains blissfully unaware, and gets launched in the air making a few turns and lands rather painfully looking on her rump! I rushed to her to make sure she’s okay.
“Oh, my gosh! Fluttershy! Are you alright?!”
“Oh, hello Rainbow Dash!” She looks dizzy and her head spins a little. “And Rainbow Dash is here, too! And a third one!”
She blinks several times and shook her head “Oh, Rainbow Dash. Don’t worry, I’m alright! Angel is a bit difficult but I had worse.”
I don't felt reassured by that. I always thought it was necessary that I or one of the others has to spend more time with her, rather than leaving her alone with that little monster. I blow a raspberry at him before telling her about the whole thing.
“What brings you here?”
“Well, Rarity and Applejack asked me to tell you of the sleepover at Twilight’s this Saturday.”
“Oh, I already know that. In fact, Rarity already told me before! She wanted me to take a look at Opal because her fur isn’t bright as usual.”
How to waste my efforts: An epic in 12 parts. I’m gonna get back on Rarity for this…
“Is everything ok, Rainbow? Was it something I said?” she gasps. “Or something I didn’t say?”
I wave my hoof at her. “Nah, don’t worry. I’m cool like that. Well, since I’m not needed…I guess I’ll see you Saturday…” I took off and started flying my way home.
“Bye, Dash!” She waves at me. I don’t even turn to wave back at her. I felt like a jerk…and an idiot for falling for that trick.
I'm still a little bitter after the whole AJ business, so I decide to skip the whole “errand pony” part. Pinkie probably already knew about this and there was no reason to disturb her on work. And probably her Pinkie Sense already told her I was a little blue and she would try to cheer me up. Which is, undeniably nice as she did that a lot of times for me or others but this time…I really wasn’t in the mood.Sometimes a pony reaches the point where she just doesn’t want to hear anything from anypony, no matter how benign her intentions are…or at least for a day.
I’d have plenty of sappiness stuffed on my face during the sleepover with those two, so I wanted to enjoy some silence alone.
The fated evening arrives and I don’t even notice.
Everything looks distant and cold, words are muted, spoiled of all of their context. It’s like a foreign movie. I can understand what’s going on for the most part but the context, the tiny details, all lost… The most interesting thing is probably Pinkie Pie jumping on Fluttershy in mid fly and trying to ride her. Judging by the reaction of the others that came completely out of nowhere,which makes it only funnier. Shy moves desperately left and right while Pinkie is probably shouting and laughing having the time of her life.Probably the only laugh I got from the evening. Good, old Pinkie Pie, at least you’re having fun.
And then Twilight has the brilliant idea to play spin the bottle.
Yeah, I don’t know either. I saw her looking at some book she found before which is probably the one Rare and AJ told me about.
And, of course, she has the brilliant idea to make Applejack start. Probably for alphabetical order.My heart stops for a second.
The bottle stops on Rarity.
And a second time.
And a third.
What have I done to you, universe? Why do you feel the need to punish me so much? I watch them smooch passionately, more passionately than a game of spin the bottle should turn out and I pray to Celestia that this day finally ends. I feel sorry for Twilight…She looks at me distraught. She knows I’m not enjoying it at all but…I don’t know, I’m just not feeling me today.
Maybe I avoided the problem for so long that I can’t stand it to face it again, especially not in front of everypony.

And there I was, at the culmination of a lifelong dream. At last I was Captain of the Wonderbolts! A crowd of thousands of ponies were giving me the praise I deserved, while the best fliers of Equestria bowed before my skills and prowess. Clad in a golden lined Wonderbolt uniform and flyer goggles emblazoned in gems from the Royal Reserve as the living proof that being awesome as me is the key of being successful, I stood on the podium with the wind in my mane for everypony to admire.

Even Princess Celestia herself was congratulating me, being a bit humbled by the sheer awesomeness of Rainbow Dash.
“It is an honor to bestow you the title not only Captain of the Wonderbolts, but also Captain of the Royal Guard, Minister of Everything that is Radical and Eternal Champion of the Skies!” she proclaimed. The crowd roared even more as befit of a pony of my status.
“And now, Rainbow Dash, you shall be rewarded fitting for the greatest pegasus who ever lived!” said the princess as she used her magic to slip the uniform off me to show the world my sleek, perfect body and my luscious mane. Then Spitfire and Soarin, my idols before and my greatest admirers and closest companion now, leaned closer to me.
Spitfire, in the most seductive voice she could musters, speaks to me while holding me tight in her toned forelegs. “I bet you waited so long for this…”
Soarin joined in. He was so close I could feel his warm breath on my neck, sending shivers down my spine. “And now it’s here!”

The head of my bed faces the window, completely bathed in the light of Luna’s moon. Anyway, I have more pressing matters to attend, namely my bed. Twilight’s bed, to be precise. It's a mess! Even if most of my excitement dried out, I still left a big, dark stain on her sheets, followed by a trail of smaller stains that looked like a modern art painting. I give it a good kick to make the water come out and I leave the sheet under the weak rain that pours out of it for a while. After that, I return to the library’s balcony and not knowing where to hang it to make it dry out, I just stand on the railing there with a wet sheet between my teeth, letting the wind doing its job.
Now, every trace of our night together was completely wiped out, except for a sheet still too wet for sleeping on and the guilty conscience of a certain blue pegasus. I’m not doing wonders for my image with my friends, since for the umpteenth time I take my leave without even saying goodbye to anypony. I’m just too conflicted for that, and frankly I don’t think I can look them in the eyes after what happened. And I’m just too scared to confront any of them about it, even without going kissing them all.
And for those very reasons, I completely withdraw in my job. At least for a couple of days.
There is a storm planned the week immediately after so the full weather team is needed. A big storm in the mid summer, just to cool down the air a little bit, getting rid of a couple of degrees.
I follow the most automatic routine conceivable: fly, buck and spin. I kick a raincloud to make lightning and rain burst from it, then elegantly spin away from it to avoid the discharge and I fly to next one.
Simple as that.
I focus on the predetermined series of movements and the faint, fresh breeze as the temperature loses a few degrees and Celestia’s sun is gradually blocked out by the cape of grey clouds.
A sudden change from the heat of the past few days, but still enjoyable, especially mixed with the smell of rain in the morning. I lose myself as I lost myself that fateful night: Rainbow Dash has to worry about that, not me. I am the sky…I am nature…I am the cold wind and the heat of the sun…I don’t have to face the problem, I don’t have any problem…Rainbow Dash is the one that started this as a mean to escape.
I’m not that pony anymore.
I don’t feel fatigue or tedium. I’m dancing in the sky, soaring and leaping in the air as befit to the wondrous creature that I am, molding the weather at my whim. I could even do this with my eyes closed as this is part of me.
I was born for this.
In fact, I start to see the outline of the clouds around me in my own mind as I don’t even need to kick the clouds with much strength. Thunder seems to jolt merely by me passing by. Nothing can stop me and I don’t have a reason to.
I am perfect and I know it…until I sneeze and tumble backward, tripping on a cloud behind me and I end falling with my back on the same cloud, my legs hopelessly flailing in the search for some support. And there goes my coolness, as I turn back into a dirty, workaholic pegasus.
Apparently the combination of raindrops all over your coat and cold breeze is bad for your health. Big Honkin’ Surprise.
“Is everything okay, Dash?” I hear Flitter’s voice coming not far from me. I can’t see her clearly mostly because my gaze is fixed on the sky above me and I don’t want to move my head around. Too tiring.

“You know, chief. You’re cool and all but…”
“Stating the obvious won’t bring you anywhere, Flitter. Nor flattery.” She approaches me landing on my cloud and starts looking directly into my eyes. Does every face look so ridiculous if you watch them upside down?
“We’re making good progress. The team is in advance with the schedule so the storm will start in minutes. Snowflake and I can finish the job.” She turns her head toward a nearby cloud bank. “Right Honeybun?”
“YEAH!” . A loud sign of approval comes from behind the cloud. So powerful that he doesn’t even need to show up to make his presence felt.
Those two are serious.
Flitter and Snowflake.
Once again my mind blacks out. A defensive system designed to think not on the mechanics of it.
“I appreciate your concern and I’ll take note of it but please, get lost!” I could’ve been more polite to her. Could is the magic word…
“But you’re working for ten hours straight! Don’t you think it’s enough?”
“I’ll tell you when I had enough!” This shtick always works, mostly because you look so pathetic that the other pony just won’t bother you anymore, nor contradict you.
Not his time, though. And I feel the last shards of my coolness slip away from my hooves, never to return…
Flitter buries herself to her shoulders inside the cloud I am just beginning to call home, or at least one for the holidays, and starts flapping as fast as she could with her wings, starting to move the cloud with me on it. Is difficult getting back on your hooves while a relatively solid surface slips from beneath them.
“What are you doing?!”I have to scream to make my voice heard because of the wind blazing around us.
“Saving you from yourself!”She sounds so valiant and heroic in saying that I could almost see a halo of bright light coming from her. I, in contrast, look horribly gloomy and soaked. It almost looks like Karma makes me want to look like the villain at all costs…
“Well, I don’t need no saving!”That was a whine and I know that. Still, I don’t think she would listen to me anyway right now.
“I know you’re angry now but you’ll thank me later.” She sports an idiotic grin.
“I command you to stop, right now!” I stomp my left hoof on the cloud to make it look like serious business. Almost too hard, I can almost hear a grumble in it. Better not do that again…
“Fine!” she says, and after that she stops…abruptly! At least I cannot say she didn’t listen to me. The inertia propels backward several feet in the air and I manage to avoid a longer fall only by spreading my wings and gathering the wind in them.
As I start to flutter in place to regain some balance I watch Flitter sporting a triumphant smile and turning back, still inside that cloud and going on her merry way.
And to Snowflake.

So cruelly kicked out of my workplace I realize I have nowhere to go. I could go back at my place but if I stay there all alone in the dark,I’ll start thinking back on that night and that’s the last thing I want.
I consider the possibility of seeing one of my friends but that doesn’t last. Maybe Twilight is right about the fact I don’t know anypony else well enough.
And we can’t forget the whole sleepover affair but I can’t carry this weight forever.

I make my way across the first drops of rain, before it gets too soggy to see and the wind passes from‘pleasant breeze’ to something that could seriously hinder my flying. Without my flying goggles it's even a bigger risk.
I finally spot the garish, marzipan-like building in the distance. I can only see a faint light coming from the bakery and Pinkie’s room upstairs. I float down, landing right in front of the entrance to knock.
“Come in!” I can hear her energetic chirping even through the wooden door.
I open it, greeted by the bell as I see a mostly empty shop, with only Pinkie in it, who is sweeping the floor with a broom in her hooves.

“Ugh! Don’t tell me!” She lets her broom at an angle of the room. “The Cakes aren’t there so I asked them tolet me take care of the shop for today but nopony is coming there and the planned storm it's not surely helping. No offense!” She blinks and giggles at me.
“None taken. You know I’m just doing my job.”
“In fact, I was just going to close the shop!” She does just that, trotting to the door and putting a ‘Closed’ sign outside. A gust of cold wind comes in from the half opened door and makes the fur on my flanks stand up. I tell to myself it’s some leftover raindrops on my coat. “So,” she continues. “What brings you here?”
“Well...” I feel a cold claw clutching at my stomach. Must be that underlying sense of shame that rears its ugly head. I don’t listen to it. “It’s complicated, Pinkie. Big and complicated.Serious stuff.”

“It was wonderful, Dashie Washie…Don’t worry.”
“Just let me rest a bit…and…”
I’m panting even faster.
“I’m good, Dashie. Let’s get some sleep. You can try again tomorrow…”
“Ah, okay…But tomorrow night I’m going to do you so hard that…” She shuts me up with a sweet kiss on my lips. Then, she leans forward to my ear, whispering softly.
“I know you will.”
My spirit is strong, but my flesh is weak. I really need some rest. We finish our bath, well the second one. The first one was for cleaning us up the first time we did it.
We make your way back upstairs and she doesn’t want me to help her with the bed. As I watch her frantically replace the sheets covered with…everything, I can’t help to feel a little useless.
“You sure you don’t want a hoof, Pinks?”
“Oh, don’t worry. I can handle this!” She lays out the fresh new sheets over the mattress, the old ones crumbled up in the linen basket. “I was joking about the mess and everything and you so need to rest!”
The aching in my flanks just confirms it.”Ok, Pinkie. But tomorrow I’ll at least help you out opening the bakery. How about that?”
“Oh, that would be wonderful! Thanks Dashie!”
“No problem. I want to make up at least for the chocolate.”
She launches a sultry look from over her shoulder. I can’t help but wonder if she was always with good with that or learned it for the occasion. “Was it any goooood?”
"Sure, but now we know who tastes better!" I waggle my eyebrows at her, seductively. Well, at least I try to. For some reason my jokes are so cheesy when I'm with her. Or maybe they are and I make them so because she likes them. Or maybe she just likes me... That genuine rich, laughter that follows every time can't be faked. She never faked anything...
"Ahahaha! You're so funny, I didn't know you were so funny! You just can't stay without making me smile every two seconds, right?"
"Nope!" I say proudly. She then hops onto her bed, waggling those flanks as she burrows herself under the blanket. I can feel my mouth watering a little, but for once I listen to that part of my brain that tells me that I'm just too tired to do it again. So I glide under the blanket, joining Pinkie, who quickly welcomes me with a kiss.
"I love you Dashie Washie," she whispers it to me, before nuzzling my chest and slowly falling asleep. Before this happens, I want to tell her. Before it's too late.
"I love you too, Pinkie." I say to her while gently wrapping her up in my wing. She shows her appreciation by tugging it under with a smile, before slipping in the land of dreams.
I know I should be asleep right now, but I'm just too excited. My heart pumps inside me and reminds me that I'm alive and the body heat of the mare beside me reminds me that I'm loved.
Because I have somepony, now.
My very special somepony.
And I know I’ll never be alone again.
Not with her.
Her enthusiasm, her affection and yes, even her randomness, fills me with trembling glee. I’m kind of jealous of her…She liked me for so long and she found the courage to make the first move with me so quickly. And a second, a third move, too. She reminded me of something I’ve always known.
With some chagrin I have to admit that she can live faster than me. I can’t forget of how dull and addled by my weakness and obsession for AJ I was there. Selfish even. Pinkie remembered me that I’ve brought us together. I shouldn’t be jealous. Not of the wonderful friends that I have.
Well, maybe seeing those two smooch repeatedly at the sleepover because of causality gone mad was a little too much for anypony!
I live fast because you may never know when good things will come to an end. And I felt like I was wasting time, time I could’ve spent trying to be happy.
But now that’s over. I’ll never do this to Pinkie. Not even a second.
The next day, I wake up thanks to the first rays of Celestia’s sun that comes from the window of Pinkie’s bedroom. I’m a bit surprised of knowing that the storm is already over, but then again, I never looked at schedules that much.
I thought that maybe they could’ve needed me for the cleanup, but frankly, I'm afraid Flitter would kick me out once again. And this time, she would bring some other ponies to gang up on me.
Especially Snowflake. I could take on Thunderlane, but…Snowflake?
I rub my eyes to get rid of the last remnants of sleep and I don’t see Pinkie at my side. I’m almost at the point to call her until I see the pink pony coming from the door, bringing with her a tray on her nose and humming a happy song.
"Good morning, Dashie!" She puts the tray in front of me. There are some chocolate chips cookies, a bowl of milk on the side and even a cup of hot coffee. There's even a chocolate covered cupcake in there.
"Is this...for me?"
"Well, Duh! I woke up a teeny bit earlier than you and I thought that my Dashie Washie would wake up a bit hungry after that night of awesome sex and I would be a pretty terri-bad marefriend if I didn't make you breakfast at least once."
Marefriend...That word still makes me all tingly inside. My marefriend...who is so nice and funny and cute and who's also missing a few screws. And I love that about her.
I love...Her.
"So...you're telling me that I get sex and cookies? Best.Marefriend.Ever!"
Now I said it. It's official...
Thankfully she reacts even better than I thought. She starts jumping into place like an overexcited filly and squealing.
"Eeeeeehhhhh! Thank you! Thank you!" She thumps loudly on the wooden boards. I hope nopony is downstairs. They'll probably think unkind things of the two crazy mares upstairs, thinking they're doing the most immoral things.
Come back yesterday, guys. Show's over.
"Now Dashie," she continues. "You have to eat, so you can get your mojo back and you can do all of the things that you want. Like flying around, being awesome, napping on clouds, having awesome sex with me and..."
"Wait, repeat the last one..."
"Napping on clouds! You like napping on clouds. Maybe I should come with you next time. A little Cloud Walking Spell from Twilight and we can nap together. Or maybe we can have sex up there if you don't to sleep."She wears a sheepish smile leaning closer to me. I don't why I always worry whenever she uses that smile and there's food in the same room.
“Whatever you want…Weirdo!” We both chuckle at that one before I start eating. I take a sip of coffee first. It is very good, very warm and not too much sugar. I already had my share of sugar last night. I don’t know when she baked those cookies. They can’t be fresh, unless she started baking them tonight, but they’re still good, especially dipped in milk. As I’m munching one of them, Pinkie’s expression goes from being relaxed from being puzzled.
“What’s up, Pinks?” I ask her.
“There’s something on your neck. Let me check…” She leans closer, inspecting the spot with care.
“Ooohhh!”She looks extremely surprised. So surprised that I can see the hint of a blush.
“What’s that Ooooh ?” Why are you making an Ooohhh ?”
“Oh, this is so worth a Ooohhh !” She lets out another embarrassed giggle. She grabs a tiny mirror from the drawer. “Look!”
And then I look. Nothing could prepare for that sight. The most horrible, embarrassing thing that could happen to a pony. Something so horrifying and unnatural that makes my wings tingle with fear. Something that I would’ve never thought I’d had to face, but now it’s right there and I’m completely unprepared. It is so horrible that I fear that if I let my guard down it could devour me and everypony I care about. It was…
A hickey!
A huge, swelled, pink lovebite that winks at me, ready to scream at the whole world every single one of my illicit activities! Obviously Pinkie finds this hilarious…
“Ahahahahaha!Ahahahaha!” She falls on the floor with laughter while I’m right there panicking. I jump out of the bed, trying not to let the tray fall and I start flying around in circles. Normally I wouldn’t be panicking so much for something this stupid, but like I said, I’m not much prepared for those things. Also, that hickey was icky.
And yes, it was my first one. Don’t laugh.
“OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH! Kill it with fire! Does it show much?” I ask, hoping for a sensible answer.
“Mmmm…Maybe if you turn around…but don’t worry Dashie!” She then goes for the wardrobe and starts to rummage in it. “I have something for you”. She pulls out a blue scarf. I immediately put it around my neck, trying to cover the evidence. It’s difficult because it’s just so big!
”Wow! It’s looks much better on you!”
I’ll have to admit that she’s right. It’s of a paler shade of blue compared to the one of my coat, which only makes it stand out more.
“Thanks, Pinkie. You really saved me…”
“No problem! Now, shall we go downstairs?”
At the start of this new day, I remember something that I shouldn’t be jealous, yes, but now I think that’s my turn of shoving my relationship down everypony’s throat. Especially Applejack’s and Rarity’s throat…

Chapter Four: Doing Things Properly
The particular reason I wanted to start our little ‘Tell-Everypony-We’re-A-Couple-Now’with Rarity was the simple fact that whenever she and Applejack are together, with the other four or just alone, they have the tendency to demonstrate their affection in the most overstated ways possible or, as I like to call it, forcing us to acknowledge it. Whether we want it or not.
They don’t do it with malice, though. I don’t believe any of my friends is capable of malice and I know they weren’t doing that just to annoy me.Nopony ever knew and nopony even bothered to ask…
Rarity was always the romantic type, so it’s pretty normal for her to finally live up to her fantasies, allowing herself to indulge in them.
And Applejack sometimes can be so honest to appear downright blunt, so she couldn’t fathom the thought about faking what she feels for Rarity, not for me nor for anypony else.
Also there’s the fact that the two are sincerely in love with each other, so I’m nopony to stop them from telling the world that they love each other and they’re proud of it. I am proud of being with Pinkie, after all.
But we’re forgetting one little detail: I’m not capable of malice like the others either, but I can be such a jerk when I want to…Well, nothing too jerky, though.
Just giving her a taste of her own medicine with some heavy snogging and petting on her front door. I hope Sweetie Belle isn’t at home…
We arrive at the boutique very early in the morning. I hope sheis alreadyin, maybe finishing some dresses before opening so I knock.
No answer.
I poke the door gently and it open slowly, creaking.
“Huh, she’s not at home…or she forgot to lock up. Oh, well! Next stop!” Pinkie says turning around. I stop her grabbing her by the tail.
“Wait a minute, Pinks! We can’t miss this chance!”
“Chance? A chance for what?” She reappears beside me almost the instant I said that. I then notice I’m not holding her tail anymore; my hoof is literally grasping nothing…
“Do you realize what this means?” I waggle my eyebrows, smirking.
“Yes. Rarity should always lock up the door before leaving.”
“No, no. I mean that we are alone? In the boutique?”
“Whoah! It’s true! What do you want to do Dashie? Pulla prank? Mess up her shop?”
“Nah, that would be mean…but still! I don’t know. Let’s take a look!” I enter the shop and Pinkie follows me bouncing.
The windows are half opened so there isn’t complete darkness. The boutique isn’t the usual mess Iam used toseeing, just half of clothes on the floor and fewer measuring tapes than usual.This means that Rarity was in there for a while and did start working on something, confirmed by the mannequin in the center of the shop, covered by an orange sheet.
I lift it a little,just to catch a glimpse of the dress. I can only see a blue gown adorned with a fine series of star shaped embroideries. Rarity’s making, no doubt about that. But it’s still unfinished so I can’t make any judgment about it. The thing that draws Pinkie’s attention and mine as well is another:the dressing room…
Well, it mostly draws my attention, she just happened to glace at it for a few seconds. It was my dirty mind that cooked this up. At first I think that it’s daring, too scandalous even for me! But then I realize that I’ll never have a chance like that again.
I want to try this!
And, what better way to showing off to Rarity than making out in her own shop?
She’ll never know it after all…Until we came out from her boutique giggling and making out...
“Oooohhh! Are you thinking what I’m thinking, Pinkie?”I wink at her, demonstrating my own version of her devilish smirk.
Her eyes dart between me and the dressing room and she blinks several times, as if she’s asking herself if she got that right. Oh yes, you did…
“You want to do it…here? In the boutique?Behind that curtain and with the possibility that Rarity that could show up anytime?!”
Now that she’s telling me this, I start to see some flaws in my reasoning.”Because you don’t want to…?”
“YES! I WANT IT SO MUCH! HERE! NOW!”
And without further ado, she grabs me and locks my lips with hers. A hungry, eager, violent kiss, where she throws herself at me without hesitation.Without even thinking.Lost in that delicious kiss, I don’t even notice that she’s dragging me in there and throws me on the ground, like a prize to claim. When she quickly stands on her hind legs and closes the curtain in a hurry I fully realize that it’s just me and her.
Oh, yes!
“You’re a dirty, dirty Dashie!” She jumps on top of me with a loud thunk . “And that’s why you’re the best!”
My ribs say ouch.
But my loins say Whooooopeeeee!
She kisses me again, this time much more tenderly. Her lips pull mine into a soft, wet embrace in which she indulges slowly and deliberately, pulling and kissing every inch of my lips. Her tongue starts pushing against mine, but not for dominance. It’s not a challenge, it’s a tease. In fact I don’t want it to enter just yet, I want this to continue. Savoring the taste her soft tongue with the tip of mine, letting her believe for just a moment that she’s gaining dominance…only for her to respond with a little push and let her start all over, while I feel her hooves brushing through all of my mane and ending up on my shoulders.
In turn I start using mine to brush her sides, arriving to her juicy plump flanks. I start to rub and grab them, massaging them faster and in such a frantic way that in the silence I can only hear the friction of her pink flesh and the sweet, sweet smacking sound of our kiss.
And just when’s reaching my wings and I feel the gentle touch of her hooves on the tips of my feathers, that wonderful romantic silence is broken by two voices. Two familiar, female voices…
“Oh, don’t worry! I’m sure you just forgot about the door!”
My egghead senses are tingling. Twilight is here?
“Well, if you say so, dear. At least your dress is still there! Ah-ah, don’t touch it! It’s still a work in progress.”
Rarity’s voice. I’m not mistaken. The snotty tone is there.
With an incredible strain of will, I manage to tear off Pinkie from my face, leaving a trail of drool between our mouths. She stands there, blinking dumfounded.
“Pinks, there’s somepony here! We have to go!”
Good one, Rainbow! Scream behind the curtain…
“And where? There’s only one way out!” she says whispering.”Now, don’t talk! Maybe they won’t notice us or they’ll go away!”
“A-Alright…” I say as quiet as possible. We stand there, still locked in the embrace, unmoving and breathing as little as possible while the conversation continues.
“I know it’ll be wonderful, Rarity. I…don’t know how to thank you for this.”
“It’s just a favor to a dear friend, don’t worry! And, after everything you did for me I think it’s trivial in comparison. Maybe you could tell me for who exactly you need this…”
“I’d rather not. It’s not that I don’t trust you but…”
“Shh-shh-sshh!” she cuts her off. “I know what you’re going to say. You want to sort this out by yourself and I respect that! I just want you to succeed at wooing this mysterious mare or stallion. Now where were my scissors?”
I hear her hoof steps coming closer. I don’t dare moving because I just know she’ll get us. Of course she’s coming this way! And Pinkie must think the same because she’s frozen like a statue. A dead frozen statue that doesn’t even blink.

The hoof steps come to a stop. The silhouettes of two unicorns are clearly visible through the curtain.
“I don’t remember it this way…”
Of course…
She opens the curtain and the next thing we see are the horrified and appalled faces of two of my best friends. Well, Twilight looks just a bit surprised, she’s even blushing. Rarity, instead, looks completely disgusted! Her face is deformed with an expression of pure revulsion, biting her lip so hard that it looks almost like she’ll rip it off. Her eyes are bloodshot and she’s actually fuming from her nostrils.
“Hi, Rarity! Hi, Twilight! We’re a couple now!” says Pinkie with a silly, toothy smile. Well, not so much of a smile as a smirk. A devious smirk, not unlike the one she always uses with me. But unlike that charming smile this seems like she’s…mocking her? Way to rub it on her face, Pinks! Even I couldn’t think better…
But, of course, Rarity appreciates this even less than before.
I can only see a white flash before Rarity forcibly grabs both of us and we’re thrown outside the boutique, falling with my belly on the ground, and shortly after Pinkie lands on me making a squeaky sound.Which means I just made a squeaky sound.
My ribs and my loins are downright booing me, now…
Twilight sheepishly leans just outside the door and says, “I’m happy for you two…” She is immediately cut off by Rarity throwing a box at me and violently closing the door.
The box hits me with a slight poke. I had worse, of course. As it falls on the ground, I notice that it’s one of the cake boxes I already saw at Sugarcube Corner. I can’t help but snicker; all of that talking about a lady being in perfect shape and she eats sweets just like all of us.
“Well at least she hit you with one of my cakes!” says Pinkie lifting herself up and freeing me from her pleasant weight.
“Celestia forbid she starts to buy those things from the competition.”I pat my coat to get rid of the dirt.
“She better not!” Pinkie suddenly lashes out. Her voice booms and becomes actually menacing.
Well, it’s official: our relationship is just few hours old and we’re already banned from Carousel Boutique.
And this time, I can’t blame Thunderlane.
Ok, I will anyway.
“Where do we go now, Dashie?”she asks, surprisingly amused by the whole thing.
“To somepony whose home we haven’t invaded yet, I guess.”
Then I have another crazy idea. Well, not as crazy as making out in Rarity’s boutique while she wasn’t there. Not crazy at all, actually. I’m surprised I didn’t think of this before. After all we have to make it official…
“Hop on my back! We’ll go faster that way.” I lift my rump at her to allow her to hop. Everypony will see us, now.
“Of course, Dashie Washie!” She complies, much more delicately than before, and hugs my neck to support herself. “You’re so kind! You know…I always wanted you to take me flying…”
“Well, you are my marefriend now. Of course I’ll do that for you…”I’m just being honest. Doesn’t stop me from blushing more than I want to admit and feel that pleasant tingle inside. That beautiful sensation to have somepony to do it.I can live with that.
I take off and I can feel the sweet sensation of the pink pony clinging on me like a little filly, trusting me completely. The feeling of her fur on my coat is enough to keep me warm and cozy. Sometimes the air currents up there are a bit too cold for my tastes. And, after all, I’ve kept her warm so many times, wrapping her with my wings, so I guess it’s kind of sweet on my part.
We share this beautiful moment, flying over Ponyville at a much slower pace that I’m used to. If we have to share this, after all, I want her to enjoy it to the fullest. And judging by her gentle nuzzling of my neck, I’ll say she is. And we don’t need words for this.
I feel the queen of the world up there, with her.She must feel like one, too. Ponyville looks so small that I could grasp it in my hoof.
But it’s not in Ponyville I want to stay for now. A bit farther than that: Sweet Apple Acres.
Well, I know that it didn’t go well with Rarity but maybe this time I can have some results.Also, I’m not planning to sneak up in her barn this time.
But, as soon we begin to leave Ponyville, everything goes bad.
“Dashie…are we going now?” She sounds worried. Really worried. Her sweet, bubbly tone of voice is replaced by something really close to just monotone. I turn my head just a little to see with the corner of my eye that her eyes are wide open.
“We’re just passing to see AJ. Nothing serious. Is it something wrong?”
“Yes! A lot! I can’t go there!
“Why?”
“I left…Gummy…Alone…in the oven…in summer!” It looks like she has taken some pieces out of other possible excuses and put them together.
“Oh, come on! I saw Gummy before we left! He was fine!”
“But what if he’s in the oven now?”
“How can he be in the oven?”
“JUST LET ME CHECK! ” she screams so hard that we almost lose balance and I start to wobble in the air. That scream wasn’t a normal Pinkie Pie scream of annoyance…she looked scared.
Completely terrified.
I don’t know if the whole Gummy thing is true but I have to listen to her.
Before we both crash, I decide not to continue the discussion further and I slowly land on one of the nearby lanes that connects the outskirts and the field with the village itself. She immediately jumps off of me and goes to her merry way…well, not that merry since she still looks so distressed and nervous.
“I’m sorry, Dashie. I can’t stay here…” Her lip trembles for a moment. “I have to check so many things…”
One for every excuse you made up…
“But I had fun with you. I swear!” She gives me a little kiss on the cheek. I forgive her almost immediately for all the excuses
“No problem, Pinks. Are you busy tonight?”
Just that simple suggestion makes her smile return.“Nopey-Dopey! Dashie! You got something on your mind?”
“Then, why don’t you come to place tonight? Just me…and you…to have some fun…”
Of course, she wears that smirk and her eyes flutter. She leans seductively toward me, so close that I could actually kiss her on those juicy pink lips. “And what are we gonna do tonight, Dashie?”
“Anything you want. Besides, I was at your place last night. I think we should get even and…”
I start to babble, losing all my charm points. Don’t lose it now, Dash! Say something deep. Something sexy…
”…and I don’t think you ever saw my place and you totally have to because it’s so cool and maybe we can have dinner together and talk about everything or maybe play some…”
She shuts me up with a tender kiss on the lips before it gets worse.”Of course I’m coming! I’d love to! Like, I’d super love to! You’ll be cooking, right?”
To be completely honest, I just wanted to buy something already done and praying she wouldn’t notice. But I can’t liet o that innocent and expectant look she’s giving me. Besides, she gave me a good idea: why shouldn’t I cook something for my marefriend? How hard could it be?
“Well, duh! I am an awesome cook! Didn’t you know? Who the hay do you think I am?” I poof my chest up, looking so prideful and fierce that I fear the world may not contain it.”I am Rainbow Dash! There’s nothing I can’t do: Lover, Fighter, The Bucking Sky!”
“And I can testify for all three! Especially the first one!” Her newfound smile breaks for just a moment, but I still notice. “But now I really have to go…” She gives me one last kiss on the forehead.”See you tonight!”
“Bye…Pinkie…” I see her trot away, turning into just a little pink dot in the distance.
And I thought it was turning out so well…
My silly boasting has limits. I can always make her smile by bragging like no tomorrowbut not this time. This time I know I couldn’t do anything about. She was too distressed when she screamed, so unlike Pinkie Pie that it almost hurts. I always forget the most important fact, even if I’m so proud of bringing this up, we’re a couple now.
And I know, it sounds obvious, but that’s very different from being friends. Pinkie is a real pony, with real feelings and real problems and now that we’re together I have to listen to her more carefully. I felt so protective the night before…I still feel like that. What we shared yesterday meant so much for me…for us…and I have responsibilities towards her.
Sure, we can have fun acting like jerks or rutting each other silly but there’s more than that. Much more than that, now. I have to be a pony that she can lean onto when she feels down, the one she can tell everything to and won’t judge her, somepony with which she can just be herself. She’s surely one for me, I don’t even have to look cool in front of her. I’m always cool for her and even if I start to babble, like before, she likes anyway because…she just likes me…
Also, seeing her that way just breaks my heart…And, for very obvious reasons, I can gather the reasons for what happened right here… Sweet Apple Acres.
Some big, obvious clue because the exact moment I turn toward the fields I see something I didn’t expect to see. At least not under this light…
A hunky, well built red stallion is plowing the fields, not even straining to pull the enormous tool, treating it like a pleasant stroll instead of a job, even enjoying the sensation of the wind caressing his mane. I can’t say the same for the other light brown stallion, who strains all of his muscles and grinds his teeth just to move the plow a few feet.
The last piece of the puzzle falls in my hooves and sucker punches me in the gut as I finally understand why she went ballistic when I said we were passing over Sweet Apple Acres. And, even if it’s crazy, I think the reasons are those two…
Pinkie’s words roar and swirl in my head, mixing and transforming themselves into the truth I desperately try to avoid…

It all makes sense…It’s preposterous but makes sense…I heard of her passing often at Applejack’s place but she has this reaction only when she was going with me. I think that’s a big, honkin’ clue right there.
“Hum...You okay, Miss Rainbow?”
I blink several times and exit from my coma. “Whoah, yes! I just blanked out for a second.Hi, Big Mac.”
“Hello. What brings you there?”
The fact that you could be my girlfriend’s ex…
“I-huh…wanted to see AJ. Is she at home?” That’s kind of a half truth. I really wanted to see her but now I’m much more interested in her brother…But what I’m going to ask him? Are you the reason why Pinkie nearly had a hissy fit when we passed over there?
“Ya missed her by this much. A few minutes ago she said she needed to go to Ponyville.”
“Wow..strange…we were headed in opposite direction and I didn’t see her.”
“Maybe Miss Pinkie saw her.” He looks so calm and reserved that I don’t know if I should be suspicious after this one…
“Oh, you saw us pass by?”
“Eeyup.”
“That’s because…we’re a couple now. Yes, we wanted to bring the big news to AJ but we didn’t find her so…I guess you know that, too!”
“Eeyup.”He cocks an eyebrow just slightly. Matter of the mixed message, fillies and gentlecolts…
“Eeyup, indeed!” I know my voice isn’t as deep as his but I think I’ve nailed it.”Totally a couple, now!”I say the last part raising my voice a bit higher than normal, allowing the other guy to listen to it. He just stops for a second, looks at me and then goes back to work. Guess he’s taken lesson from the master himself…
“Congratulations,” says Big Mac, dryly.
“Well, if I don’t see her first, tell her I’ve passed by, alright?”
“Eeyup.”
“Thank you, Big Mac. Bye!” I take off and start flying in the opposite direction from where me and Pinkie came, leaving the fields behind. I don’t have time to lose, now. Like I said before, I can still make up for this. We’re seeing each other and we’re going to talk about, like two loving mares with no secrets whatsoever. Some good food, cider, my charming presence and we’re done for the night. I’ll know everything about her freak-out and will be living happily ever after, just like in the sappy romance novels.
I’m positively sure about this.
In the thick, black, putrid smoke that fills my cloud house completely I realize, sometimes my opinion of myself is somewhat inflated by my numerous achievements I’ve accomplished despite my relatively young age and sometimes I happen to think so high of myself that I fail to comprehend that some activities are, alas, above my grasp and my understanding.
Which means our bucking dinner is ruined!
The smoke smells so bad that I dare not open my mouth to avoid being intoxicated by such a mephitic aroma and I can’t open my eyes, either. Last time I got it all in my face, my eyes burned and they didn’t seem to stop. I’m forced to wander aimlessly around in my house searching for a window, guided only by touch. With sheer luck I manage to reach what I think it’s a glass surface and try to grasp for a handle.
It creaks but it opens and I’m free to push my window open letting the miasma out of my home and my heart. The smell still remains. I’ll probably have to wash all the interiors to get rid of it! It’ll probably linger forever! FOR-E-VER! I lean outside my window to breathe some fresh air, while I curse my luck.
“Damn you, Thunderlane! Damn you to Tartarus! First the cloud, then the boutique and now this! You really don’t want me to be happy, do ya?”
This time I’m gonna make him pay!
I return to my oven to take a look at the casualties. I fully open the door and I get assailed by yet another puff of that horrifying scent, causing me to cough. I put my eyes upon what was supposed to be a savory cake.
At first, I thought that Pinkie may have preferred something sweet for dinner but I usually don’t eat them at dinner, my stomach feels funny if I do after a certain hour and I reasoned that she ate plenty of sweets during the day so I wanted to try something different for her.
The book said it was an unbelievably easy recipe but I managed to turn it into an unbelievable disaster.
I just had to mix some milk, pistachios, cheese and some other stuff and then bake it. To quote Derpy, I just don’t know what went wrong.
Next time she does something silly, I’m going to be kinder than usual with her, that’s for sure. I grab the book to see if I followed right the recipe…I read the recipe again, going back forth among every paragraph and I still can’t wrap my head around it: the ingredients were there, I had the bowls, I didn’t mix it much, I put the damn thing in the oven and…
Oh.
It says 30 minutes. Thirty . There was a smear on the book that kind of looked like a one…
Whatever…Pinkie is going to be here in a few minutes and I’m lucky I didn’t manage to burn the cider. That would be it! It’s the last one of my special reserve, I was saving it for a special occasion and I don’t think there’s a more special occasion than our first dinner together.
I’m still trying to get rid of the leftover smoke waving my hoof around, when I hear a knocking at the door and a familiar, chirping, delightful voice.
“Dashie Washie! It’s meeeee!”
“I’m coming!” I say between coughs, still stumbling to get to the door. I almost crash against it before I can open it, sharingthe last puff of smokewith Pinkie as well. She doesn’t even flinch, strangely. I’m here with my eyes red and still coughing and she doesn’t even flinch.
“Huh! That smells good! Are you making fumè?”
“Yeah…Maybe you can call it like that…” I don’t know what that means but she surely knows more about food than me. “I hope you’ll like it.”
If you can digest toxic waste, that is.
“If you made it must be good.” She hugs me and gives me a soft kiss on the cheek. “Everything about you is good!”
We sit at the table where she eagerly insists to try my kitchen war crime. I take a couple of slices for us and bring it to her on a couple of tiny plates.
“Mmmmm…Smells even better from there!”She takes a long sniff, obviously pleased by it.
I’m too afraid to let her take the first bite so I sacrifice myself for her sake. It tastes like...
Sorrow.
Sorrow with an aftertaste of regret. There’s a party in my mouth and everypony is having an existential crisis. It’s like a baked bad omen, its presence itself forewarns to an oncoming disaster, looming in the horizon. It makes me want to cry…
Of course, she’s diving in the plate face first. “That’s awesome, Dashie! It’s crunchy on the outside and softy inside!” She gobbles the whole slice in a second and pours herself a glass of cider.”Are you gonna eat that?” she asks, referring to my slice. I pass it to her with nonchalantly.
“So…”I say. “I went to Sweet Apple Acres earlier.”
“Oh, yes!” she answers still devouring her plate. “Did you find AJ?”
“No. Her brother told me she went to Ponyville…” I trace some circles with my hoof on the table, looking bored.”You know…Her brother?” I say the word brother slowly, to bring it to her attention deliberately. She doesn’t even flinch.
“Well, duh! I know Big Mac.” She wipes her mouth with her foreleg. “And he said that AJ went to Ponyville?”
“Eeyup…” I bring out my best Big Mac impression I can find. He didn’t bother when I did that. Well, he didn’t say anything in regard…
She giggles. “Hihi, you just looked like him! About AJ, I bet she went there to comfort the poor dear after she saw that vulgar sight of us smooching like crazy!” She hugs herself happily with a broad grin and starts her own impression of the two lovebirds. ”Oh, Applejack! I can’t believe those two ruffians were doing such things while I was gone!” Her inflection and accent is eerily similar to Rarity’s.
She then shifts her weight to the left and starts stroking an imaginary mane. “You don’t worry anymore, sugarcube. Ah’ll show you what a real mare is!” Pinkie gives a long flurry of sloppy kisses to her own hoof for a while until she sees me flinch this time for just a second. Why am I doing this? I shouldn’t be bothered anymore…she’s just joking…I like when she jokes.
“I’m sorry, Dashie. I guess it was too soon…Hehe.” she giggles nervously, looking ashamed.
“Nah…don’t worry…”I look absently at the cloudy floor and take a swig of cider from the bottle.And another one, just to give me some courage. “You know who was there, too? That stallion with the deep voice…what’s his name…?”
“Caramel!” She doesn’t hesitate, pointing her hoof right at me. I don’t think I’m doing much progress…
“I guess you were at Twilight’s….” I take another swig of cider.
“Yuppers!I borrowed her balloon to come here and she said she is really happy for us and she said that maybe we’re having a double date!”
I almost spit my drink. So, that’s what she was talking about in the shop…”And who is it?”
“Dunno! She didn’t want to tell me! She said she doesn’t want to tell anypony! Actually, I shouldn’t tell you that but I didn’t Pinkie Promise on that one. Just promise me you’re not telling anypony!”
“Sure…Sure…”Looks like everypony I know has some sort of dark romantic secret. What’s next? Fluttershy and her tortured relationship with a creature of the night? Now that i mention it, she told me about how that Night Guard from last Nightmare Night that, according to her, looked cute...
I already finished the bottle. I think it’s time to pass on plan B: bring out Miss Sexy Flanks and make her spill the beans…
“You know, Pinkie…Why don't we make ourselves more...comfortable?” I float to her side, lifting myself from the chair and I start to lean seductively towards her.
“I was waiting the whole day to hear you say that…” She puts on a sultry smirk and trots to my bed.
She sits on it looking outside the window, before patting at the next place to her, smiling, and inviting me to come over. Once I join her she instantly pulls me into an eager kiss.
In the light of Luna’s moon, our kiss tastes just like the first. It’s gentle, yet intense. Very intense.I feel like all the gloom and awkwardness of earlier is blown away from the sweetness and passion of that kiss. Her hoof gently brushes against the fur on my chest, massaging it in tiny circles right where my heart is. It’s already beating fast, of course, and she doesn’t fail to notice. Pinkie breaks the kiss for just a moment.
“What’s wrong?” I ask her.
“I had to be sure this is really happening. I had to make sure you’re real…”
I put my hoof on her own. “You feel this?” I say, referring to my heart, which is threatening to leave.
“Yes. It’s beating so fast…I can feel it.”
“Only you can make me feel this way…”
I kiss her back in a much sloppierand inelegant way, starting from where we left.I press my lips on hers like my life depends on it, still drooling from before. Only this time it tastes like…
Joy
That’s what I feel now that I’m kissing her again…pure joy.
My joy from kissing her and the joy she’s feeling from kissing me. That’s because Pinkie is, quite frankly, the best kisser I’ve ever had. Not that I had many…Ok, two…Pinkie included… She’s gentle, yet passionate. She gives me every kiss thinking it may be the last, grasping at my lips with her own with tenderness and care.
Her kisses get more frantic and frequent, pressing my lips again and again against hers in a way that it almost looks like she’s slipping in the heat of our love and my lips are the only thing that can keep her in here.
This ends when she grips me into a fierce hug, almost crushing my ribs with her forelegs, before her tongue starts pushing against mine, forcing me to counterattack by pushing harder. This time I’m not playing soft, she’s really challenging me this time and she pulls no punches, either. After all, she couldn’t find a better teacher about competiveness than me! It takes a while before I manage to push her tongue back and let mine enter her mouth, playing with her own, participating in a tender dance. She comfortably loses herself into it so much that Pinkie allows me to push her on the bed. While the hug lasts I can feel that her heart is also beating faster, in unison with mine…
The moon lights up her beautiful pink head making her pink complexion stand out with its pale glow and, more importantly, her eyes…The light of the moon makes her eyes look like two majestic blue lakes, a couple of gorgeous blue sapphires in which I can’t stop staring into. But it’s something else that does the trick: her expression…That alluring, innocent expression she keeps while staring at me with a smile as pure as the first fallen snow. Like an innocent, and very much in love,little filly that waits for her lover like it’s the first time.
Well, that was already taken care by either Caramel or Big Mac, but my point remains.
I give her a deliberately long kiss on the forehead, before burying myself in her poofy mane. I take a big whiff of her scent, while giving her a flurry of little kisses. She always smells and tastes like sugar, only this time with something of an aftertaste of clouds…my cloud…and some of our dinner. It tastes so much better in her mouth. Everything tastes better on her! Once I start kissing her forehead again, I see Pinkie closing her eyes, offering her lips for another passionate kiss that I can’t just refuse. Our lips meet again and I feel that exhilarating sensation that goes from my throat and expands itself in my shoulders and stomach. It’s just like our first time…
I pull her into a strong embrace and I break our kiss, although very reluctantly.
“What’s the matter, Dashie?” she says, still with that look on her face and a cute trail of drool hanging from her lips. Sweet Celestia, am I always this mess of a kisser?
“I love you! That’s the matter!” I answer harshly. But I’m not blushing this time.
“I know, Dashie….I love you t…”
“No, you don’t understand. I mean it! I mean it so much! I am yours and you are mine and I don’t want to see you suffer!”
“Oh…” she says, averting her gaze.”If it was from this morning, I…”
“I don’t care!” I interrupt her almost instantly, making her pupils widen in shock.”I don’t care what you left behind…I just…” I lean closer to her, putting my head on her chest. “I just don’t want to see you that way anymore…”
I lift my head to meet her puzzled look, as she slowly comes to realize what I just said. “Oooooh…You mean…that? You don’t have to think about that.”
“Then why? Why do you not want to tell me the truth?”
“Because…I don’t feel comfortable telling you yet. If I tell you who it is then so much will change and I don’t want things to change. Not this way…”
“Just what happened between you two? Whoever it was?”
“I-I promised to not tell…”
“To who? No, wait. I bet…”
She zips her mouth in response.
I knew it. I just knew it…
“Dashie…”she brushes my cheek. “I promised to keep the secret and you know the drill with secrets and friends…”
“I’m not your friend!” She gasps loudly and stays there with an open mouth, looking she’s about to cry. I embrace her fiercely once again.
“I’m your marefriend, now. And you shouldn’t have so many secrets with me. I’m sorry if I may look clingy but that’s who I am. I can’t help it…”I put my head on her belly.
She sighs loudly. “Why don’t you want things to stay like this…? Why do you want to know so badly?”
“Because…” I stop like that. I don’t have any answers. I’m obsessed that’s what it is. I am obsessed once again with another mare…and worst of all, I’ve completely misunderstood her. She wanted to let go of the past and I just won’t let her…She just wanted a nice evening with me and I just shoved the fact down her throat that I’m basically jealous of her ex, whoever it is…
“I need some time to think!” She shoves me aside and runs to the door.
“Pinkie, wait!” I try to reach to my hoof but to no avail. She has already slammed the door behind her. I run to her but once
And I just stand there, looking I’m ready to cry…
Until I notice I’m already crying…

Chapter Six: A New Beginning
Stupid Dashie…and stupid Pinkie Pie, too.
To think I was doing so well…
I could be in my bed making out with my Dashie Washie, but I have to settle with my pillow.
Rainbow tastes so much better…This is so stuffy and smells too much of fabric softener. She tastes of rain and cinnamon and everything that is good…She tastes of my Dashie Washie and I’ve ruined everything.
Maybe that’s because it happened too fast? Of course it did! Stupid Pinkie Pie couldn’t wait to do the dirty things with her, not even telling her everything.
Instead I had to freak out and be a general pain in the flank…and now she’s gone. I don’t even know if she wants to get back to me or at least be just friends…
I can’t be just friends with her. We can’t.
I love her.
I’ve always loved her and I’ll love her until my silly, sugar coated bones will hold.
I’m not so deluded to think the contrary and just stop having these wonderful feelings for her. She’s everything I could hope and aspire for: my best friend, the coolest, sexiest pegasus in the world and a pony so kind, comprehensive and gentle that my heart melts like chocolate just thinking of her and her cute smile. Even her corny jokes fill my heart with unspeakable glee.
She wasn’t even angry when I told her (well for a pretty roundabout definition of “told her”) that it was me that tasted her rainbow that fateful night. I was scared when she came through my door all wet and nervous, scared that once I confessed she would hate me forever and don’t want to see me again.
But she didn’t mind.
If she wasn’t the wonderful, compassionate pony that she is, she would have probably thrown the cake to my face and told everypony of that horrible thing I did to her.
Instead she brought me upstairs, carrying me in her muscular forelegs and loved me as I’ve never been loved before in my whole life. I really meant that when I said she always makes me happy and what happened last night doesn’t change it.
The worst thing about this whole mess is that she cared too much for me! She told me that she needed to know because she wanted to see me smile again and I just had to be Zip Mouth McZippington!
Sometimes when I Pinkie Promise I wonder if I’m going to hurt somepony. I wonder if sometimes knowing a secret is necessary, especially for the one you love. She must have thought the worse of me, the unthinkable. I made her worry for nothing and I can’t forgive myself for this.
I’m going to her. At least for the love of my life, I can break a Pinkie Promise. I’ll take all the balloons in the world, search the whole skies if necessary and tell everything to Dashie! Eve-ry-thing!
I don’t care if she won’t forgive me, I owe her at least this much. I will fight for my love!
I lift myself from the bed and run downstairs in the bakery. If everything goes according to plan I could find her and apologize before opening the shop.
Easy Peasy!
Before I can open the door, though, a bell rings and it opens itself, revealing the silhouette of a pony standing against the just settled sun.
Could it be…her?
Tears form at the corner of my eyes as I threw myself at the just entered pony, hugging the figure so tight that I can’t almost believe it.
“Oh, Dashie! I love you! You came back to me!”
“Glad to see you too, but I think that’s one big misunderstanding…” That’s one uncharacteristically deep voice for Dashie…Either she has a cold…or gained a few inches…and lost her wings…
I open my eyes to reveal somepony that I never expect to see, nor wanted. I shouldn’t be angry at him, I really, really shouldn’t. I can’t help that being a little sad, though.
“Oh, hi, Caramel…” My smile turns instantly in a pout. Again, just because I don’t know how to deal with this.
“Hi, Pinkie Pie…are you…huh…”With the corner of my eye I can see he’s blushing. Like, a lot. He always did that when he was with me. “Are you okay?”
“I’ve been better…”
“Is everything ok with you and…” he bites his lip, “Rainbow Dash?”
“Did you see her? Where is she?”
“I’ve seen her just yesterday when you two passed by the farm.”
“Oh…So you know now.”
Oh, Dashie…you really couldn’t stay without knowing, did you? I can understand it, though…I mean if you had tofreak out like that I would’ve turned the world upside down just so see you smile again.
“Well, it was pretty obvious. She passed by just to basically scream that at everypony. I mean, even Applebloom knows now! She was passing by when I and Mac were working.”
I can’t help but chortle at this. What better way for my Dashie than announce it to the world? If she told me, she would have surely borrowed a couple of my megaphones so that they would know it even at Canterlot!
“Wow…”
“Yeah, wow! She probably did that to rub it in my face. How did she know it anyway?”
“I think it was my fault. I was kind of…scared that you knew it. I mean, we were coming over to tell Applejack and I was afraid you were there, too…”
“Why? Don’t give me that face, please…You make it more difficult…”
“Because I thought you would be jealous and…”
“Which I am, by the way.A lot.”
“You see? And you would hate me forever and think I never cared about you and…” he stops my mouth gently with a hoof. Only ponies that know me very well know the right moment to do it. I’ve seen this timing only with him and Dashie.
“I never thought that, Pinkie. I’m not that petty. But you didn’t answer my question: how’s you and Dash?”
I remove the hoof from my mouth. “We…had a fight…”
“No!”
“And we…I wouldn’t say broke up but…we dented up! Now I don’t know what to do. Wait! I know! I’ll find her and tell her the whole truth!”
“About us, isn’t it?”
Yes…Now that you’ve mentioned it, she must have figured it out by now. But, you know, I Pinkie Promised to you so I couldn’t say that and I basically ran away from her…”
“Just because you didn’t want to tell her about me?”
“I Pinkie Promised, remember? I didn’t want anypony to think badly of you.”
He circles my shoulders with his forelegs and grips me in a gentle hug. Always with the hugs…He’s always so tender and kind, even if he has no reason to…”They would be right. I am bad.”
“You’re not, Caramel…”
“Yes, I am! I was so bad you started liking mares!”
We both stand silent for a second before dissolving into a wild, vibrant laughter, just like the ones we always used to share. Short but poignant, the kind of laugh that is just what it takes to dissolve the gloominess in my heart.
“Oh, Caramel! You’re always so funny!”
“I had a good teacher. Much more than I deserved.” A melancholic shadow appears on his face. He really believes what he is saying. I brush his cheek with a hoof.
“You still care about me? I mean, really?”
“Yes I do, Pinkie.” His voice, even if quite deep and rude, is still like a caress in the wind when he refers to me.
“Why did you leave me, then? And why did you make me promise to not tell anypony?” I am serious about promises. I’ll always stick with them, even after that happened. I was angry with him. I still wanted to remain friends though and I can’t refuse a promise to a friend. “Was it because I’m too…random?” Nopony can find better words to describe me these days.
“No! For Celestia’s sake, no! It was because you were too wonderful ! You are so full of energy and life and you always bring out the best in everypony wherever you go! I couldn’t keep up with you or your friends. Do any of them know about me?”
“Well, no…But I wanted to tell them until…”
“No, they don’t. You make a much more entertaining and active life than just a simple farmer.” Even though he is smiling, there’s still that veil of sadness. I know why ponies do that and I can understand it oh so well, but I can’t possibly fathom the idea of a smile to express sadness. “And after you told me the story about Dash and your Cutie Mark…I knew I had no chances anymore. There was only her in your heart after that, right?”
I have no strength to actually admit it and my silence is basically answering for me. It’s true…I’ve loved Dashie since I knew that I owed my smile to her. I’ve loved her more than I could love him…It’s basically like I’ve cheated on poor Caramel but only with my heart, not with my body. He just said how much he loved me and told me how special I am...it’s everything I wanted to say to Dashie.
I can’t help but lay my head on his chest and look sadly at my hooves. Even now that he is here, I can only think of these hooves that just yesterday held and caressed that beautiful pegasus. The same thing he’s doing to my mane.
“I wanted you to be happy. I loved you, but it wasn’t enough. So I gracefully stepped out of the way so you could finally be with her. And it breaks my heart to hear that you have dented up…”
“You tell me. If only I knew what to do once I find her! Because I will find her!”
“Of course you will! Once you have your mind set on something nothing can stop you, right?”
“Nopey Dopey! But silly me! I just forgot to be happy because you’re happy for me!”
“I just want to see you happy Pinkie, that’s all.”
This doesn’t mean I should stop feeling guilty. “But what should I tell her once I find her? I know lots and lots of words and I can make some up if I need them, but the right ones?”
“Just tell her what’s in your heart. What always was in your heart. She’ll understand!”
“I just need to find her then!” I lift my head and stand with pride in the room, just like Dashie always does whenever she wants to show off how awesome she is. I should be, even Caramel is on my side!
Just when my resolution is at its max something wonderful and unexpected happens! My ear flops, my knee twitches and my eye starts to flutter against my will.
The door opens and is almost torn up by a sudden air movement, followed by a loud booming noise that leaves my ears whistling for a few seconds. The air hits both of us in the face, a violent explosion of air that messes up our manes so badly that...messed mane, it can’t be!
The moment the air is filled up by a pleasant tingling sound, like some tiny bells of different tunes, and is colored by a faint, multicolored hue my heart leaps. The colors of my fillyhood are there! Dust settles down and I feel the corners of my mouth spontaneously turning up, making me smile as wide as I never did, as wide as that day...I can say that light in the distance, shining as bright as the sun and filling my heart with glee.
“I guess she’s there...” says Caramel, “go to her and be happy, Pinkie. As you have made me, even if it was for such a brief time.”
“You too! Wherever you go, just be happy!” The corners of my eyes are filled with tears. Tears of happiness! I guess that now I know what it means; they want me to be happy, I want to be happy...Dashie wants me to be happy! With that, Caramel leaves the shop with a hopeful smile on his face after opening the door for me, so I can run outside to meet with my love.
It’s even better than I thought; her rainbow embraces the entire horizon and is just as wide. Its colors shine vibrant and spread the joy everywhere that it planted in my heart. It could be probably seen in all the skies of Equestria and it is certainly a view deserving of that. It just stands there, enormous and magnificent, for the village that is slowly waking up to see.
Just when I'm thinking that only the instigator of this beautiful moment is missing, she floats down right in front of me, with her silhouette just standing against the sun for a brief moment. She looks as brilliant and wonderful as always, while I’m just standing there with tears in my eyes.
But she came back for me...
Beautiful as always, with a smile so tender and serene she’s everything I have always dreamed of. She doesn’t even make a noise while landing next to me except for a brief flutter of wings.
I start babbling as soon as she stares at me with those beautifully, alluring magenta eyes.
Come on, say something! At least say “Hello” or...
Before I can open my mouth, she gives me a gentle kiss on the forehead. So brief and taunting that it doesn’t even make a sound.
“Hi, Pinkie Pie,” she says shrugging. There’s even a faint shade of red on her cheeks. So cute...!
“Hi, Dashie...what is that?” I point my hoof to her rainbow, “I mean, I know what that is. It’s a rainbow! What I’m trying to say is why now? I mean, I love it but, you know, isn’t it a bit early? Not that it’s too early for something super-awesome as y...” With utter timing, she stops my babbling with a hoof just at the right moment.
“It’s for you. It’s for showing you how much I care. I’ve been such a fool...”
“No you’re not...” I remove the hoof, holding it in my mine. I can feel her warmth and it’s even a bit sweaty. Which is normal since she must’ve worked pretty hard for that wonder up there. “I’m the fool! I made you worry so much and I broke your heart!”
“It doesn’t matter. Also, my heart isn’t broken anymore now that I’ve seen you again...”
“But I made you worry with my secrets...”
“Don’t care. It mattered to you and I should’ve known how you feel about secrets. It’s just part of you...”She gets closer to me and gazes deeply into my eyes. So close that her breath starts to tingle. “...and I love everything about you! Also, remember that if I didn’t have faith in you keeping secrets I would’ve never come to your shop that day, right? You’re my friend, Pinks!” A couple of tears roll from her eyes.“My best friend...and surely something more!”
“And if you hadn’t come....we...” This alternative really strikes my heart. She trusted me even before knowing the truth...She trusted me because I’m her friend. That’s why I’m with her...
“But we did! Just...don’t get me scared like that again, ok?”
“Oh, Dashie!” I throw myself at her and she catches me in her wonderful embrace, where I just melt in a relieved laughter. “I’ll never make you worry again! Not about these things! And I promise I’m going to be goody good and explain everything and be the best Pinkie Pie you deserve.”
“Thank you, Pinkie...”She tightens the hug. “You have no idea how much this means to me. How much you mean to me!”
“Just...why the Rainbow?”
“That’s what I wanted to tell you from the start! This Rainbow has only six shades…You’re the missing one! You complete me, Pinkie!”

Only one thing bothered me: inside the shop, Pinkie caught a glance outside of somepony I could swear I already saw before, but I couldn’t wrap my head around it. That was the moment I saw in her eyes that same abysmal look she had when we passed above Sweet Apple Acres. Only this time I didn’t ask any question, because I knew there was only one thing to do: be there for her.
I stepped in and simply hugged her with a wing, pulling her close. No words, no explanations: she calmed down that very moment and nuzzled my neck before planting a small kiss of mi neck. I love you, Dashie , she whispered.

I’m not smart like Twilight, but I can still put two plus two together, so I didn't ask any question. I hope those two may have a chance together. I hope the same also for Rarity and Applejack and, by the way, I've apologized to her for that time Pinkie were making out in her shop. Thanks Celestia I was right about the six of us being fundamentally good ponies and thank Celestia for AJ bursting out in a roaring laughter the moment she heard the whole story to lighten up the mood! I don't know how Cloudchaser and Thunderlane are holding up right now, but I think they're gonna be fine. Now that he's hot his happy ending I don't think he'll ever be the bane of my life anymore.

I’m not that arrogant to think I’m gonna be a replacement for Pinkie or whatever, just like I’ve never treated her as a replacement in my heart for AJ. I love her for just what she is...and I’ll always will. The blue in her eyes tells me that she knows it as well.
That’s why I’m right there, staring at the display case of that jewelry shop.
I know I have mentioned to take this slowly, but I know I’ll have to make this step one day. I want to, actually. I would be stupid to miss the chance to live the rest of my life with her properly.

“So…I just spent the rest of the night shoving some other existential crisis in my mouth while crying…”
“Oh…” Twilight lowers her gaze toward her balcony’s floor. She doesn’t even have the hint of a blush, but I can still tell she’s embarrassed. Well, she told me tell me everything , after all! I still can’t because we aren’t exactly alone.
“Wow…Fastest breakup in the history ever! No offense…” utters the lilac pegasus idly resting on a nearby cloud hovering just beside mine and sipping from her glass at regular intervals.
“We haven’t broken up, Cloudchaser…” I say her name as slowly as possible to calm my nerves and avoid doing something awful like making her eat that cloud. “We have just…just…”
“I’m waiting here…” Never before I wanted to punch somepony just for the sound of her shrill, mocking tone. I’m not even trying to come up with a snappy answer.
“We have dented up! Yes…Dented up…”
“If you say so, RD…”
“Yes, CC. Thank you for the contribution.” I take another sip, trying to mask the grumbling noise I always make when I’m mad at somepony.
“Well, I guess it’s better that way!” Twilight breaks the awkward silence that almost led to violence. “We need less glue to fix it!” She puts on the goofiest smile she has ever mustered. And considering the one she pulled off the time she tried to get me into Daring Do at the hospital that’s saying something.
“Ah! That’s a nice one, Twilight!”A voice is heard right beside Cloudchaser.

“Can I still ask exactly what is he doing here?” He still has the nerve to talk to me like an equal after making me burn the cake.
Actually I know why he’s there: apparently, Twilight likes to hold therapy session for everypony who has problems for any kind, but especially for friends. She said that I’ve inspired her after that time she couldn’t find a lesson to write about for the Princess…even though she was the one that went cuckoo at the end of the day. At least her scribbling on the notebook, the bun made with her mane and the glasses made her look like a therapist.
“You know, Dash….” he starts, “if you want my two bits about it…”
“No, I don’t want to hear it!”
Both of the girls glare at me while the bane of my life just cowers in his personal cloud. “Would you please leave poor Thunderlane alone?” says Cloudchaser before giving herself a little kick with her wings and move her cloud towards Thunderlane’s to comfort him by patting his back with her hooves. Twilight looks…distressed to say the least. Her enthusiasm at the thought of helping us has completely evaporated and she looks as down as ever.
“Are you okay, Twi?” I ask. “If you don’t want to…”
“No, no, no….” she pours some more iced tea in my glass and hers.“It’s just that I’m surprised, that’s all! I mean, these things under my roof…”
“Yeah, it’s a bit weird. Does this mean I can still be mean to Thunderlane?”
“NO!” Cloudchaser and Twilight both scream at me. “Just what’s your problem with him?”
“He knows! Alright, alright…But, you know, Twi? After all, you are the one that brought us together as friends! You just took it the next step!”
Once again, as I can gather by Twilight’s annoyed look and angry sigh, she’s not impressed by my sense of humor…neither are my ‘therapy group mates’. Cloudchaser has finally given up and she’s snorting prickly laughter after prickly laughter while the bane of my life is simply staring embarrassed. Pinkie would have found it hilarious…Then I remember something: the last thing I should’ve said that Twilight aptly named The last thing you should have said .
Twilight doesn’t fail to notice the resurfacing of this thought upsetting me, so she pats my shoulder as a friendly gesture.
“Are you alright…?”
“No. I just remembered that I’m a real jerk…I’m not your friend ? Really?”I gulp down the whole glass in anger.
“Well, that was a very poor choice of words…”
“Don’t pretty that up, Twi. I was awful…”
“Yes, you were,” says Cloudchaser. ” I don’t know Pinkie very well but she didn’t deserve that!”
Thunderlane just shakes his head in disapproval. Great, now I have to say that Thunderlane is right about something…
“Well, you had good intentions. Even if you could have phrased it in a much better way! What were you thinking?”
“I wanted to say that I care, dammit! Those things had changed and I cared for her more than I cared as friend! I wanted to know, I needed to know and I thought she had to tell me about whoever was her coltfriend! I mean, how could she be with me if she still freaks out at thought of him?Oh, Celestia, it sounds even dumber now that I’m saying it!”
Twilight just nods, showing once again that sometimes, with intelligence doesn’t always come empathy. Which I don’t deserve, but that’s beside the point.
“I still can remember those eyes…Those pretty blue eyes shouldn’t look so crushed…”
“And to think she’s so sweet. She fell in love with you with such a simple reason!”She looks positively delighted after saying that. Twilight always was very supportive of relationships between the five of us. It makes sense since, like I said before, we wouldn’t know each other if it wasn’t for her. When Rarity and AJ announced they were together she was the one begging Pinkie to have a party for them.
Of course, nopony mentioned that she had to be the one to console poor Spike…
“Yeah…” a weak chuckle escapes me, mostly at the memory of her cute hooves almost pulling my mane out in the bath. “ I made her life better, even if involuntarily, and she fell in love with me…Of course, I had to ruin everything…” I gesture to her for another glass of tea. I kind of wish for some cider but I’ll better stay away from any form of alcohol lest I’m going to hurt Twilight’s feelings, too. And Rarity isn’t too crazy about me, lately.
“I envy you RD, you know that?” Cloudchaser gives a melancholic look at her, now empty glass while I and the others lean toward her, looking confused. “Well, I can say that you’ve been lucky…” She circles the border of the glass with a hoof and looks in it. “Your Pinkie jumped on you the first chance she got…which makes sense considering she said she had that crush for you for such a long time! Instead, my crush is probably getting smooched by my own sister!”
“Really? Who is he? Or she?” asks Twilight.“You mentioned to have this problem but you didn’tsay much about it.”
“Oh, I thought it was obvious! Wasn’t that obvious?” She turns toward Thunderlane who just shrugs. “It’s Snowflake…” her voice is just barely a whisper but it’s enough for all of us to get it.
I spit my drink on Thunderlane at the surprise, “SNOWFLAKE ?! But he…He is….Who…What?!”
“Well, that’s the whole reason I wanted to talk with Twilight here. And despite your objections, he’s a very handsome, kind and wonderful stallion altogether. Of course, just when I was going to make the first step and just ask him out like a reasonable pony…he goes for my sister, instead. Please tell me you have something stronger than this, Twilight…”
“That would mean avoiding the problem and you know it…”
“I wish I could avoid them . Whenever I see them together they’re always smooching and saying things like ‘Smoochy-Doopy-Pie’ or something…”
You know, at this point I usually go on a funny tangent about how I don’t understand the appeal of Snowflake or that I can’t understand why he shouldn’t have a long lasting and fulfilling relationship with anypony he fancies, but not this time. I’m tired of that joke…
This time I really don’t have the urge to try and jinx it. I think that I did it before when I was just a lonely, grumpy pegasus with a broken heart. But now I’m alone again, with the little difference that finally I know very well how happy you can be when you find your special somepony.It lasted only shortly but I enjoyed every minute of it….I don’t have the heart to do that anymore. I hope those two are happy together…Like me and Pinkie couldn’t…
“Ok, CC. First of all, I have to say that I feel for you. I know how much it sucks, something like that…well, you had it worse, it was your sister and all but you know what? I know it hurts and I’m not saying you should get over so easily but…who knows maybe there’s somepony out there that holds those feeling for you…Maybe he’s right around the corner…”

“Maybe he’s somepony that you always had by your side….” Thunderlane rises his head from the clouds, looking more dignified and confident than he ever did. I can see in his eyes the same determination I had inside me before this whole mess happened. From the way he’s looking at Cloudchaser, I have to say, even if obvious, she’s the source of that determination, that strength…
For once in my life, I have to root for him. He deserves some happiness, he deserves love, even if he never fully cleans up…
“But where could I find somepony like that?!” Cloudchaser doesn’t even look at him, extinguishing that fire he had before, causing poor Thunderlane to cower once again on his cozy cirrus. “It’s not that I can find awesome stallions like Snowflake at every corner or…ppff…I don’t know right beside me?”
I wink at Twilight, like I’m trying to say: “Should I tell her? ”
Twilight just shakes her head, eyes closed, basically answering: “Are you kidding? They should figure it out for themselves or the therapy would be all for naught! ”
I couldn’t figure such oddly specific reaction unless it happened more times than it should…Twilight is not one for a hooves on approach. Fortunately I’m a completely different pony…
A tortured, resigned smile appears on poor Thunderlane’s face. For a second, I feel pity for the poor guy. I think that Karma is punishing him for a change. Even if he is smiling, he looks absolutely crushed.I can actually see any hope and everything that is good and pure abandoning him, leaving just the broken shell of a pony who, according to my stupendous intuition, actually thought to have a chance.
But you know what, Karma?
I think I’m going to give to you, as Lyra calls it, the finger .
I have no idea what that means and where she heard it, but it fits perfectly. The mare is strange but she really knows her way around words.

A long, awkward silence follows after Thunderlane’s botched attempt of a confession, until Twilight finally speaks with a vaguely vacant look.“I think the whole premise is flawed…”

“Maybe you missed the part when Pinkie and I did…”
“I know that, but listen; do you think you would care for her so much, that you would be so crushed for having hurt her…after just one night of you-know-what?”
“Well, no…I mean if I didn't know her it would still be terrible, but I know Pinkie, I’ve known her for so long and even though clearly I wasn’t expecting that , I wasn’t thinking about her that way until…that. Boy, I’ve said the word that so many times it lost any meaning…”

“Of course I would! And for embarrassing secrets you mean, like, exactly who do you have a crush on?” I try to not snicker, but the corners of my mouth just won’t obey me.
“Yeah! Like that! Nice try by the way…”
“It was worth a shot. But, embarrassing secrets aside, you’re right. I love her, Twi! She’s my friend and I love her so much! But, what should I do? I just ruined the chance to stay with my best friend and surely something more…I know it’s sudden, but I wanted to propose to her. I wanted her to live with me, don’t ask me how! We’d have found a way! Nothing has stopped her and it wouldn’t have stopped me and I love her so much and…”
I can’t stop the words flowing from my mouth. I feel completely helpless. I’m so honest with myself that it hurts. It’s just ranting, but is so genuine…so heart-rending to me…It just comes out of nowhere! It’s just surreal that I’m standing there confessing all of this to friend and two ponies that I barely know but…
It feels right.
“I don’t want to hurt her feelings again. It’s not that I can just hope she’ll always forgive me everytime I screw up!”
She puts a hoof under her chin. “Mmmm…The logical thing would be just waiting that things just follow their course…but you never do the logical thing!”
“And now it’s not the right time to start!”
“You love her, you just said that nothing would stop you or her and you’re still there moping ? It’s just a misstep!”
Cloudchaser finally intervenes after being silent after the whole exchange. She almost sounds enthusiastic, like she has solved a riddle. “For Celestia’s sake, it was just a misstep! Do you know what a misstep is?! You’ve been together for just a couple of days! Do you really think it’s the moment for you to give up right now?”
Twilight stares with her eyes wide open. “Thank you, Cloudchaser. I-I really couldn’t have said it in a better way. Just like she said, Rainbow! This is an opportunity to start over! Think Rainbow, what was the spark? That special thing that made her fall in love with you and only you can give her?”
Twilight’s words pierce right through my brain like a thunderbolt. My pupils widen and a bright light flashes right before my eyes…I’m looking directly at the Sun, so I move my head a little to the left to avoid being blinded by my own stupor.
Light is the whole crux of the plan, though, not just a white light, but several lights of different colors. Those colors…My colors…

But we really need something from the past. Something that she never forgot and always will be welcome in her heart. The one thing from the past on which she built her feelings for me and I’ll always remember fondly, too. The thing that made me what I am…The thing that made her who she is…
For once in my life I know exactly what to do.
I lift myself from the cloud and I stand there, filled with pride and spurred by my newly-awakened indomitable spirit.
“Twilight…I’m going back to her!”
“Then go, Rainbow! Go and be hap-“ A loud crash is heard from inside the library.“Agh! Seriously? Now of all moments? Let me check…” Before going back in she points a hoof at me.“You! Good Luck!” Then she point at Cloudchaser and Thunderlane. “You two! Wait for me. The session isn’t over yet!”
After she’s run back inside I take off from my cloud with a sharp flap of my wings and before leaving, I give a little kick to the cloud Thunderlane is resting on, pushing it aside and gluing it together to Cloudchaser’s. The inertia makes him tumble and fall on top of her. He blushes and lets out a laugh that is both nervous and relieved. She looks timorous but not bothered much, letting her hoof to caress his chest.
Like I said before, hooves on approach. Always works. They surely think so...
“Just a word of advice: if it’s a filly, ‘Dash’is a good name!” I immediately take my leave and take off at full speed leaving behind the library,the two lovebirds and the village, arriving without paying any care to my surroundings, just like a reflex, on the summit of a hill.

I don’t know if it’s going to have the same value of the first one, now that I’m capable of making them on command, but I hope it’ll be enough for her.
I’m not so deluded to think my plan is going to be flawless, that me and her will sit on this very hill to watch the sunset the very next day as a happy couple. That everything will be okay and we’ll never have any squabble again, but for her it’s worth a try. Maybe this is the only thing I could give her that is worth something and I have no guarantee is going to be enough, but it’s always worth a try if I want at least to show my face to her again.
Start again, said Twilight. This is a new start, all right. The wind starts to blow in my face and the sky is as clear as it could be.
The stage is set and I think only of my love.
