Revenge
Nine Months Later (Epilogue)
Previous ChapterAnother unexpected knock, and Sunburst was again quick to go to his door. Again, he used his magic, opening it up. But when he did, he found no pony there to greet him. At least, at first. After just a few seconds of looking confused, his ears picked up a sound. It was gurgling of some sort, and his eyes drifted downwards. There, to his utter shock, was a basket, covered in a blanket, with something moving underneath. Wariness took him, and he reached down, picking the blanket off and, after seeing what was underneath, looking to it with wide eyes.
It was foals. Many foals. A dozen at the very least, all sleeping soundly. But these were no mere ponies, even though they largely looked the same. They had fangs, and some sported wings that more resembled those of Changelings than of pegasi. Confused? Certainly. But even so, Sunburst was not so confused as to not notice the note that was laid there, right in the middle. He used his magic to bring it to his face, seeing one of the youngsters give off a loud yawn as he did so. And as he finally looked to the note, he read it aloud.
"Dear Sunburst. It seems I didn't really think my plan through all that well. These children of ours are far from the vicious and bloodthirsty killers I was hoping for. They can't even change their shape. So, I figured I'd send them back to you."
He blinked, then read the final words.
"Regards...Queen Chrysalis."
Another blink.
"P.S...You were really good that day."
With his magic ceasing, the noted dropped to the ground, and his eyes once more turned to the children on his front doorstep. One of them opened its eyes, looking up to him, and after a brief silence, its gurgling became actual words.
"...Dada?" it said with a tilt of its head.
Sunburst said nothing, instead taking a deep breath and exhale. His horn lit up again, and he carried the basket indoors with him, levitating it all the way over to his desk. Gently, he set it upon the ground, and as more of his children began to wake, he looked to a note, writing upon it with his face becoming paler and paler.
"Dear Mother. It's me, Sunburst. Remember when you said a while back that you thought it was high time I gave you some grandkids?"
Slowly, he looked down to his unexpected off spring.
"...Weeeeeeeeeeeell..."
