Among the Living Once Again
Chapter Fourteen: Pancakes in the Morning
Previous ChapterOnce again another day has passed in the land of Equestria. Stanley awoke late this morning, unlike the day before. His body was a bit sore from the scuffle on the balcony. With both feet on the floor, he was still in a somewhat drowsy like stupor. With a muffled sigh, he gazed toward the door before standing up from the bed. A shower was the first thing that popped into his mind. Having the ability to take a shower, was one thing he missed dearly. Stanley never liked being a dirty, grimy wild man after all. Trimming his finger nails, shaving, and keeping his hair well kept was now an opportunity he wouldn't pass up on.
Shaking his head side to side, he stretched out his arms, as he walked to the door. His eyes finally open as he let out a yawn. Opening the door, he now headed to the smaller bathroom that across from his room. Without a second of delay, he gathered up his shower supplies in preparation. Stepping into the bathroom, the cold soothing feel of the white tile could be felt on his bare feet. With a step toward the shower, he opened up the hazy glass door to then turn the faucet to warm. Water began to pour out at the shower spout, as the droplets pelted the crystal white porcelain show stall. The bathroom was of a simple design and nothing out of the ordinary. A toilet, a stand in shower, and a few small cabinets adorned by a sink and mirror laid inside this bathroom. In seconds a small trail of steam could be seen over top the shower signaling Stanley it was ready. Stepping in with a smile on his face, he began to clean himself.
In less then ten minutes flat. Stanley stepped out the shower, clean as a whistle. Pulling a towel off the wall, he dried himself off. As he finished a thought had crossed his mind.
Damn, I'm sure Twilight has the Taj Mahal of bathrooms. With only Luna and Celestia having a bathroom just above her. Not like I'll ever get to see it, I'm content with just this after all. But damn, I'd kill for a bubble bath, a fine bottle of scotch and some stellar music. Enough day dreaming, lets get breakfast and get today over with already.
Getting dressed while in the bathroom, he could only stare blankly at the huge hole on the back of the red t-shirt. As he slid on his khaki pants, he left the t-shirt flat on the floor. Moving his head, he looked around inside the room for a washcloth. His eye's soon found the prize, as a neatly folded white washcloth rested inside his bathroom basket. He never did like using one a washcloth, so he decided he'd make use of it. Unfolding it, he placed it upon his shirt on top of the glaring hole which covered it entirely. Closing his eyes while pressing his hands together, with a clear mind. He focused for the next minute. A blue glow of light could be seen as it pulsated off both the t-shirt and washcloth. In less then a minute, the red t-shirt was now restored to it's former glory. The loss of the washcloth shouldn't wasn't a real loss.
Rarity would surely bust my balls if she saw the fresh shirt she just made in tatters after all. I don't need her and Rainbow Dash teaming up on me now. Transmutation is something I haven't practiced in a while. With it being highly illegal back in the day, I was bit cautious up til' now. For all I know it could be a lost art in this era of Equestria.
Transmutation of objects was a useful spell for any spell caster. Changing alike objects into each other was a simple task. While transmuting wood to metal was whole another story. For one, to be able to accomplish such a feat, time and serious energy had to be accumulated in order to preform such a complex process. Restructuring matter in that sense, was difficult. The principles of this world were still governed by the laws of 'the conversation of matter and energy'. To change let's say a boulder into a piece of gold. It would garner extreme amounts of energy and time. The process would result in maybe gold nugget for the trouble, while leaving the user completely drained. Even skilled users couldn't get away from this drawback.
One last fact regarding transmutation was how badly it could mess up a country's economy. Counter fitting gems, gold, and other such rare materials would result in serious jail time. Which meant this spell was rarely used or even taught. Stanley himself only was able to dabble on entry level transmutations, thus prevent him from using it to any real benefit. Best he could do was combine alike items to repair them or if given enough time, maybe change a rock to a head of cabbage after an hour of focusing. This spell to Stanley was almost as useless as teleportation.
Putting on the newly repaired t-shirt, Stanley left the bathroom in high spirits. Walking down the hallway, Stanley came to a flight of stairs that would take him to the dinning room. Nothing had drastically changed inside the castle, no extra guards could be seen patrolling. Which only made Stanley smirk as he joked to himself.
Extra 'fortified' my ass.
Entering the dinning room, it had the same styled decor as the rest of the castle. At the far end of the table Twilight could be seen eating alone. Noticing that Stanley had just entered the room, her head darted up from her plate and she greeted him with the wave of her hoof. With a soft smile, she gestured him to sit down at her side. As Stanley approached he noticed something that caught his eye. Unlike before, she looked much better, as the bags under her eyes had vanished. Giving her a neutral look, he pulled out a chair and sat down at the left side of the table. Before he could even speak, Twilight broke the silence with an unamused voice. The smile on her face disappearing now, as she looked at Stanley with a stern glare.
"I was informed about the little scuffle you had up on the balcony last night." Twilight muttered, as she picked up her fork with magic.
"Yeah, they took me by surprise. I wasn't......"
"Nonsense." Twilight said cutting off Stanley. The whole mood inside the room changed at this very moment.
"Nonsense?" Stanley fired back. His face was filled with confusion as he tried to look at from Twilight. He was unsure of the sudden personality change about the purple mare.
"That armor you wear, the fact you can cast magic.....aren't you suppose to be much stronger?" Twilight harshly spoke as she looked away from Stanley. Closing her eyes she could only shake her head. Stanley could tell she was somewhat disappointed with him.
"No, I wouldn't say I'm much stronger. The basis of my magic was never geared toward straight combat situations. And without that armor, my mortality really begins to show." Stanley fired back trying to defend himself from her harsh words.
"See. Now your starting to make sense. So what do you suppose we do about these changelings after you?" Twilight inquired as she leaned in toward him with a reinvigorated smile.
"Lure them into a trap maybe? With me as the bait." Stanley spoke, as he gave her a cheeky grin. Leaning toward her now, as the scent of lavender shampoo from her mane tickled his nose.
"Hmmm" Twilight said, as she started to ponder now pulling back into herself back into her chair. With a pair of wondering eyes, she looked toward the other end of the table and then back at Stanley with a serrated smile.
"That might just work. But what if they bring friends? You know the changelings are numerous." Twilight said with emphasis on the last part.
"Oh I know all too well. From when tried to capture me while I was in their homeland. A herd of around a hundred swarmed me." As Stanley answer only to turned his head toward a catering cart that suddenly emerged behind Twilight. Stanley recognized the pony pushing the cart. The chef pony was candidly humming a tune, as he stopped at Stanley place setting. On the cart laid a fresh serving of pancakes, as steaming began to raise from them. Without hesitation the chef placed the stack of pancakes on to the table where Stanley was sitting. A glass pitcher of maple syrup followed up the plate, as it was placed next to the plate. The smell of pancakes in the morning always did perk up the mood, as Stanley could only smile at the chef.
Opening his mouth to Stanley could only say one thing. "Thank you." As the chef return a warm smile before muttering. "No problem, I hope you enjoy." Leaving Stanley's side, the chef returned to his cart.
The pancakes were a perfect golden fluffy color, like the one's seen in a Denny's commercial back on earth. Besides the pancakes, one odd thing that caught Stanley's eye were the strange marks on the chef's neck. They looked like hicky marks or something along those lines as they were dotted unevenly about his neck. Laughing to himself Stanley could only think of one reason for those marks.
Looks like, that guard did some "Special Healing" last night. Maybe thats why he's in such a vibrant mood.
With the chef back at his cart, a fork and a knife could be seen in his hooves. As he made his way back to the table, to place them at Stanley's side. With him finished with his duty, he left as quick as he came. After all he had to cater to the guards inside the barracks as they had schedule brunch for today. Something Stanley wasn't aware of in the slightest. As he tried to figure out why the chef darted out of the room with his cart so abruptly.
"Well, I hope you enjoy. My personal chef really puts his heart and soul into every dish. Sadly he is booked today with my guards requesting a brunch today. Also going back to the changeling issue." Twilight said, as her eyes moved from where the chef had left and back to where Stanley was sitting. Before she could speak Stanley opened his mouth to speak.
"I heard the one whose name is Zell mention something strange. She spoke that the hive wanted me immediately. For what reason...I couldn't really tell you Twilight."
"Its possible you play a much more important role then you think. From what you told me from before, maybe other pieces of the kingdom you served had survived. You might just be the key to unlocking their secrets. Thus making you a prime target." Twilight said giving her two cents on the matter at hand.
"Now that you mentioned it, that could be the case. Sadly, if they do get me. It would be a fruitless victory. I wasn't exactly the most informed person inside the ancient kingdom I served. After all why would they trust secrets with a six foot tall alien from another dimension? I mean hell..... Look, I was tricked into testing out a stasis experiment after all. I surly can't be that valuable." Stanley uttered as he chuckled a bit.
Picking up the pitcher of maple syrup now. Stanley poured a hefty amount on to his pancakes. It looked like a volcanic erupt of maple syrup was taking place on his plate from the amount he used. Putting down the pitcher, he was ready to dig in, as Twilight finally replied.
"Maybe, but you are still one of a kind. An exotic creature who'd make a good pet or prize." Twilight said letting out a laugh at the last part of her statement. Stanley could only flinched, at the thought of being a pet or slave for changelings to use. With a slight sigh he continued the conversation.
"Either way Twilight, next time I see those two. I won't show a spec of mercy." Stanley said, as his tone went cold near the last part. Giving Twilight a very serious look, as he stopped eating. A huge bite sized chunk of pancakes were at the end of his fork, as he placed it down on the plate.
"Just don't kill them. If we capture them, we might just be able to interrogate them. After all. Luna specializes in all art forms of interrogation, they'll spill the beans surely after a session with her. " Twilight confidently, Knowing all to well, that Luna's darker side took great pleasure in squeezing out information from Equestria's various captives.
Picking back up the loaded fork of pancakes. He quickly gulped them down before replying with a happy voice "Will do." These pancakes tasted wonderful, compared to what he's been eating for the past few weeks. This may just be the reason why he was showing very few manners as he shoveled more into his mouth. Before each bite, his mouth watered in anticipation. Twilight not at all disgusted by his lack of table manners, only looked satisfied to see him enjoying himself. No matter what, Stanley was still a piggy bank full of new information to plug and pry with. Which only made Twilight want to spend more time with the strange human. Noticing he was almost finished she decided to speak again.
"And oh yeah, Make sure you check in with Fluttershy. She'll give you a good look over. Since the hospital in Ponyville really doesn't specialize in non-pony folk, it'd be your best option anyways."
"Thats fine, as long as she doesn't ask me to.....drop my pants and cough." Stanley said with a slight comedic huff before continuing on. "I mean....I wouldn't be against having a psychical. So sure why not." He finished, as his tone sounded comfortable on the matter.
"Ummmm?" Twilight said, giving him a mildly confused look regarding the one part he mentioned.
"Don't worry it's a human thing." Stanley said giving a straight face, only to turn it into a mischievous smile.
"Oh, well if you say so." Twilight spoke before snapping back in to her usually self now. "Speaking of which. I can't wait to see your math results!" She said ecstatically with a slight crack in her voice, which only made her blush a bit from embarrassment. Stanley could only give her a sarcastic smile as one word popped into his head.
NNEEEEEERRDDD!
Regaining her composure she kept going.
"Oh and finally. Some places in Ponyville that could definitely use your help would include the post office. Maybe Sugarcube Corner, and probably some of the small businesses around town. I am confident, that with your magic and hands, you'd prove to be invaluable around town. And finally......make some friends while your at it!" Twilight exclaimed, looking at him, before turning to her plate. Soon the tip of her horn lit up, as a napkin could be seen floating toward her face. It swiftly came to her lips wiping them clean, as it then moved to her cheeks. Now finished, Twilight looked toward Stanley once again.
"Well, I bid you a good day. I've got my duties to preform. Til' next time." Twilight said, as she got up off her chair and began walking toward the door where the chef had come out of from earlier. Stanley's couldn't help but find himself looking at the purple alicorn's frank. Twilight's hips swayed back and forth with each step she took. Sadly her long and stylish tail blocked most of the view, but it was still mesmerizing to say the least. Regardless if she was a pony or not, an fine ass was still in all tense and purposes an ass. If it wasn't obvious by now, Stanley was an 'ass' man.
Even know, I gave up up the prospect of sex; shortly after coming here. Just one of these days I might just cave in. Or will be forced...if those changelings have anything to say on the matter. Anyways, lets get this show on the road.
Alone inside the dinning room, Stanley shortly finished up his pancakes only for the returning chef to collect his empty plate off the table. With a full belly and smile on his face. Stanley prepared to take on another day as Ponyville's resident human. Heading back up to his room, he made sure to grab his coin pouch before heading out of the castle. Stanley wanted to make sure to see Rarity again before her shop closes today. It would be wise after all to have a few spare outfits. Owning a single pair is pretty inconvenient. Really, who in there right mind, would want to wear the same outfit day after day, while also having to wash it every other day.
Ponyville like everyday other day was tranquil, as business went about as usually. The market was bustling with activity, as mare and stallions alike conducted trade and small talk. Stanley with his head held high, kept to himself. Many ponies would still give him a stare down, which didn't bother him in the least. As he kept pace , he walked by the town hall building which was in the middle of town. Stanley stopped for a second to admire the building. It was distinctly different compared to most of the neighboring structures. The architecture had a certain style about it that made Stanley admire these ponies just that much more. Before getting too sidetracked by this marvel, he got a move on.
As he left the edge of town, he followed a dirt path as recommend by a local. He had asked just not even a few minutes ago. Following the path, it wasn't long before a small cottage came into view. The little hovel, looked similar to what a druid would call home. Or at least it looked like that when regarding Stanley's observation. Squinting his eyes, he could make out a yellow shape in the backyard of the cottage. The shape was tending to even smaller dots as they gathered around in a circle. That had to be Fluttershy for sure Stanley thought.
Now almost near the front gate of the cottage. A grey stone path could be seen as it sprawled upward leading to the front door. Another small path seemed to loop around to the backyard. Putting his hand on the gate, Stanley was almost ready to open it before suddenly a soft sensation could be felt as it brushed past his lower leg. Looking down, a small adorable rabbit seemed to have made himself known. It looked up at Stanley now, with its large beady eyes. Smiling, Stanley crouched down with his one hand out to pet the rabbit. With a playful voice Stanley spoke to the little rabbit.
"Hey little guy, how's it going?"
Before Stanley could even react, the little rabbit lunged at his hand. A small pair of sharp teeth now chopped down on his hand. It wasn't a strong enough bit to draw blood, but it definitely didn't feel pleasant.
"Aaa!" Stanley yelped.
Stanley jerked his hand back promptly. The rabbit soon let go Stanley's hand. Stanley now stood back up giving the little rabbit a glare of disgust. The rabbit returned the gesture with it's own angry expression. The little fuzzball stood it's ground as Stanley only could shake his head now.
"Not so friendly are we? You almost got me good you little bastard." Stanley said as he lifted the afflicted hand to his face. Examining it, he spotted a small red mark where the rabbit had just bitten him.
This rabbit seems special.....I definitely shouldn't fuck with it. Anyways ways; Lets go find Fluttershy and get this 'phsyical' over with.
Ignoring the small rabbit at his feet. Stanley opened up the gate and headed into the front yard. Slowly he veered off to the small path in order to meet Fluttershy who was still in the backyard. She had a bucket full of carrots in her one hoof, as a large gathering of rabbits awaited their turn. With a calm voice Stanley called out to the yellow pegasi as he approached.
"Hello, Ms. Fluttershy. I was told you wanted to see me?" Standing now just a few meters from her, Stanley kept his arms to his sides and waited for her response.
Unlike before, she wasn't in the least bit startled from the sudden emergence of his voice. Instead she turned her whole body toward him as soon as his words met her cute fluffy ears. Fluttershy had a warm smile on her face, as she made eye contact with Stanley.
"Welcome, Stanley; You can just call me Fluttershy. No need for the formality." She spoke softly. The voice was near same octave as the bubbly pink pony. Instead this time, it was calm and reserved like a disciplined school girl's.
At least she's not shaking this time. Still its very strange, even during my explanation to Luna and the rest of the Elements. This little yellow pegasus was like a penumbra as she hid behind her friends. Now she seems a bit more confident. Well it wouldn't take too much to realize I'm no threat, now at least.
"Very well, Fluttershy it is then. From what Twilight told me, and from what I've seen so far. You are the one who takes care of the various animals around Ponyville I presume? And I must say. That is quite noble of you." Stanley spoke with admiration fronted toward Fluttershy.
She could only look away from him, with a small blush on her face. She wasn't used to getting such appraisal out of the blue. Let alone from some strange creature she hardly knew. Most ponies, especially the pegasi from Cloudsdale had always spoke harshly of her, or bullied her into submission. That was long ago when she was just a filly. Now a days she had gain the respect from her deeds, not to mention she was the Element of Kindness. Rainbow Dash also always would come to Fluttershy's aid during times of trouble.
"I-it's nothing....Really. I just do what I can for them. I've also loved nature ever since...that fateful day. So I try to give back best I can" Fluttershy spoke stumbling on her words as she shuttered a bit. When she uttered the phrase 'fateful day' her voice sounded a bit gloomy.
Raising an eyebrow Stanley only gave her a wide smile. "Well you can only do the best you can. I sure as heck couldn't deal with the animals. After all, not even a minute ago a small rabbit...and I had a minor disagreement."
"Oh, You mean Angel? I had wondered where he went!" Fluttershy said snapping back into a calm composure.
"So he's got name." Stanley commented. Moving his eyes, down to Fluttershy's lower leg. A little rabbit was now at Fluttershy's side. He nuzzled into Fluttershy's front hoof, while giving Stanley a death glare.
Fluttershy now noticed the little bunny up against her, as she leaned down picking him up with her hooves. Giving him a loving embrace, she nuzzled her face up against Angel's. Fluttershy's left ear flicked a little as her tail wagged side to side in excitement during this display of affection. Both of them had their eyes closed, as the warm fuzzy hug lasted a good few seconds.
Now that's a sight. An adorable fluffy yellow colored pony, giving an equally adorable snow white bunny a hug. Out of the ponies I've seen thus far.Fluttershy is the most girly of them all. Or at least of the Mane Six.
Her well kept neon pink mane was considerable long compared to other mares. It also covered one of her ears completely, as the style had it parted to the side of her head. The mane swirled with striking divinity at the ends which gave a subtle charm to her appearance. Her tail was the same color and seemed to drop to the ground. Like Rainbow Dash, she also had a pair of wings which were neatly tucked on her back. Unlike Dash's wings they seemed a bit larger in size.
Before he got diabetes from cuteness on display, he let out a fake cough to get back to business.
"So are we going to run through a full physical? Before we even begin, I'd like to say. I'm close to a minotaur in my features, so I doubt you'll find too much of a difference. The only thing different about me are my feet and overall muscle mass. Us humans have a bit less....a lot less...I should say..muscle mass. But I'm confident that I have a much more handsome looking face when in comparison to most minotaurs." Stanley said, gloating a bit now. As he grabbed his chin with his hand rubbing it slowly.
Leaning down back to the ground, Fluttershy gently released Angel. He hopped back to her side and continue with his death stare.
"Well unlike a minotaur, Stanley....I can already see glaring differences between you and them." Fluttershy spoke before stepping up to Stanley. She was just a half meter from him before gawking up at him with a smirk.
"Put out your hand." Fluttershy spoke softly. Without hesitation Stanley followed her request. Stepping to get closer to her, Stanley put forward his whole arm. He swiveled it so his palm was facing upward, revealing his pale white skin of his underarm. Fluttershy only kept her smile, as she gently placed her hoof on his palm. Her soft fur made him tingle inside as she slide her hoof up and down his forearm. Stanley didn't move a muscle, but started to feel a bit strange as the yellow pegasi continued with her examination.
What is she doing?
"Ummm? Sooo? Whats...up?" Stanley said trying to break the awkward silence between them. Her face become a bit flushed with blood, with her breath became heavy now. Stanley could only make a face of astonishment.
"It's just....I never felt an animal with such smooth skin. Not a trace of fur.....you said you were a.....?"
"A human. A bi-pedal species who resides on the planet earth. Which is from an entirely different dimension. We evolved from hominidae sector, who are called 'great apes'. As time went on, my ancestors diverged and become what you see right here." Stanley finished, as he pointed to himself with his other hand.
"Wow, you sorta just sounded like Twilight. She must be rubbing off on you already." Fluttershy spoke, as she kept feeling up his arm. Besides the blush on her cheeks, she sounded slightly jealous. He didn't much mind, but it was starting to creep him out.
I'm not a big fan of this close contact, not like it's a new thing. The alicorns of old used to get a little too close for comfort. But here I am....in the middle of Equestria.....having my arm felt up by a cute pegasi in broad day light. Should I feel honored? Who knows.....I just want to build my house...and fade away at this point.
"We should head into my cottage for some tea, I'd love to hear more about you. Plus I'd like to give your body a full run down." She said with a sultry tone near the end there. She now gave him an evil looking smile. It only made Stanley suspicious of her motives as he reluctantly agreed.
With the release of his arm, she turned back toward the rabbits. Stanley waited for her to finished feeding the grubby little creatures. Angel seemed to linger a bit, before Fluttershy gave him another warm cuddly hug. With that done, she turned back to Stanley and gave him a warm smile. Her pair of baby blue eyes, now gestured to him follow her inside to the cottage she called home.
By this time Stanley had already noticed that her cutie mark consisted of butterflies. Which got him thinking now.
Butterfly.....Fluttershy....makes sense. Good fucking job Stanley your a detective.
He could only let out a sigh at his own stupidity, before Fluttershy grabbed him by the wrist pulling him into her house. A mischievously giggle could be heard from Fluttershy, as the door to her cottage was closed shut. With her and Stanley now all alone.
Author's Note
Sorry for this slow....slow....slow....pace. I'm 100% doing a time skip after I finished up with Fluttershy's 'Attempt at a human phsyical'. This chapter was actually done a few days early but I scraped it. A whole 5000 word chapter was deleted. I felt it was too out of 'left field'. The chapter consisted of Twilight and Stanley getting into a pretty nasty argument where both of them stormed off...and some shit went down after.
Twilight ended up scolding Stanley, calling him weak...etc. I felt Twilight was too harsh...and out of character......so I said fuck it and rewrote this thing. Still didn't turn out like I wanted. At least I squeezed in a Team Four Star Reference in....but still. I just felt this chapter really lacked any substance or 'meat' as I like to call it.
Anyways, enough with my retarded ranting,
I hope you all enjoy'd. Til' next time.
