The Dragonblood knight
Training Arc Part 3: Fire in the belly of the beast
Previous ChapterNext ChapterSpike looked at the sitting Pheonix on his shoulder, "So, Ryze you said you were a phoenix lord?" The male asked continuing the short walk towards the exit. Ryze nodded as he looked at his new partner.
"Not a lord, young Spike. I am the god of the phoenixes, I protect and make sure we are safe from the forces of darkness and the corrupted Dragons." Ryze spoke calmly as he looked forward recounting his long past. "Before I came here awaiting your arrival, I was with my people, in our domain protecting those who needed it and governed what happened. I may be a god but I will always be there for my people. That is my job as a god and will always be my objective, well - it was my objective at least... Until the dragons attacked."
Spike looked at Ryze feeling sympathy for his companion. "What do you mean when the dragons attacked? Is that why you exiled yourself here? Or is there another reason for that?" The duo arrived back outside of the cave, Ryze taking a large sigh, leaned his head down - "I'll talk about that later. Still, too much guilt for me to relive again" -the Pheonix said quietly.
Spike looked over at his new partner on his shoulder and lightly sighed, "I'm sorry to bring up painful memories Ryze. Just know that whenever you want to speak about it, or just talk in general I am here. We are going to spend a lot of time together after all so we should have each other's backs right?" Spike spoke to the bird, giving him a light smile, Spike then turned his head back towards where the two were walking. The two soon exited the cave entering the forested area around the cave entrance. Spike was conflicted in his thoughts, with the new information that Ryze gave to Spike, was everything that he knew about the dragons wrong? Was it perhaps, that the species that he was related to the actual bad guys in the big picture? All of these thoughts overwhelmed Spike, causing the young man to let out a large groan.
It has been several minutes since the duo had exited the caves, causing the duo to finally make it out of the woods into the courtyard of his father's mansion. The Phoenix god had sensed a dragon life force within the mansion, looking at Spike with a worried look. Looking at Ryze, Spike could tell that something was bothering the Pheonix and he wanted to find out what it was. When Spike looked at where Ryze was staring, he saw it was actually the place he was currently staying. This is when Spike remembered that he was the son of a pure-blooded dragon, Spike turned his head to look at Ryze with an affirming smile.
"You don't need to worry Ryze, this is my father's house. I can tell you are afraid of dragons after the attack, but I can assure you that my father will not hurt you. He led an army against the dragons because he did not believe in the ways of the dragons back then." Spike softly spoke to Ryze, hoping that his words would calm the Pheonix that was upon his shoulder. "Why don't you perch on one of the windows, maybe that would help you calm down a little more. Maybe it would also help you confirm that in fact, my father will not hurt you." With Spike's suggestion, Ryze spread his wings and took off flying towards one of the windows that looked into the biggest part of the mansion. Looking inside to determine if Spike's father would not be a threat to his well-being.
With Ryze no longer on his shoulder, Spike reached the back door re-entering the dining room where he was before the events with Ryze. It has been quite a while since he had left dinner, so the plates and food were no longer on the table. Spike felt bad that he left his family in such a hurry, but he knew that what happened needed to be done. Once Spike closed the door to the room, the sound of the door echoed throughout the room, and into the hallways, which caused Spike's father Dorroth to enter the room. Once he saw Spike was safe, he came close to his son putting a hand on his shoulder.
"You found your familiar didn't you Spike?" Dorroth asked his son. Confirming his suspicions Spike nodded with a slightly sheepish smile. "Yes I did Father, and well he did not feel comfortable coming in at the moment, but he is around. So please, if you do see him do not worry." Spike retold the events of what happened within the woods, with how he kept hearing the voice of the Pheonix, and how he in fact has a familiar that is a Pheonix God. Once Dorroth heard the part of the Pheonix God, Dorroth was slightly shocked at the fact that his son had such a powerful familiar.
Ryze while still outside, was looking in at the conversation between Spike and Dorroth. Ryze had to take a closer look at the figure of Ryze before a flashback shook Ryze.
Hot blazing flames surrounded the entire village, as a younger Ryze was flapping his wings at an intense rate. The Dragons have only just attacked his village, most of the houses were already turned to ash. Carnage surrounded the young Pheonix as he heard a large roar. Young Ryze fell down onto his legs, closing his eyes ready to welcome death with open arms. Only for him not to feel any pain. Young Ryze opened one of his eyes, only to see a large purple dragon swinging with a sword that looked like a chain, trying to find survivors in the wreckage. Every time he found someone who was alive, the dragon would bring them onto their shoulder and swing back to bring them into a safe area. Ryze was baffled to see a dragon helping the village even after other dragons just attacked them.
Back in the present day, Ryze's eyes were as wide as dinner plates. He finally found his savior from all those years ago, wanting to greet him personally Ryze flew through the crack in the window and landed on top of Spike's shoulder once again. Once the Pheonix landed on Spikes's shoulder, Ryze bowed in front of Dorroth.
"My name is Ryze, your son's familiar. Sir, I am grateful to have finally met you. I still remember to this day when you came to my village right after a group of dragons attacked my village. You saved so many lives to that day, and now I am the only Pheonix to live. You have given me hope that not all dragons are bad and that some use their power to help others. I hope I am able to help your son follow the path you have taken." Ryze kept his head lowered as he gave his speech to Dorroth.
Spike reached his arm around and gave his familiar a nice scratch on the head, Ryze in response, one of his wings twitched in glee when Spike touched a particular spot on his head. Spike couldn't help but chuckle at the reaction of his familiar while he was scratching his head. Dorroth on the other hand, was completely puzzled at Ryze's exclamation. The elder dragon couldn't quite remember the day that he was talking about. This caused him to lightly rub the back of his neck in embarrassment.
"I can't say that I remember what happened that day Ryze," Dorroth spoke with a dark purple hue on his cheeks. The dragon, back in the day used to help lots of people that were affected by the rouge dragons. He always had this burning desire to help people, which to this day has given the older dragon a notoriety. Ryze on the other hand, felt slightly dejected because of the fact that his savior had forgotten about the time he had saved him. The elder dragon looked towards the phoenix on his son's shoulder and gave him a light pat on the god's little head.
"I am sorry Ryze, back in my prime the rouges were attacking several villages every day. It had been tough to keep track of every village that I was looking to save because of those filthy dragons." Dorroth let a loud huff at the thought of the rouge dragons from back then. Grey smoke was escaping his muzzle when Celestia walked into the dining room, where her son and husband were standing talking to a stranger to her. "Dear husband you are smoking up the house again," Celestia said to the older dragon as she pat the back of her husband trying to calm him down. "Spike I am so glad to see you back my son, I see you found your familiar!" Celestia spoke to her son with a look of surprise, seeing the flaming phoenix on his shoulder.
The phoenix looked upon the pale complexion of the woman and bowed recognizing the multi-colored hair, "Your majesty, I hadn't realized you were there. I am eternally sorry for my mistake." The ruler let out a soft giggle at the actions of the phoenix, "My, you truly are a match for my son. You do not need to worry young phoenix as I am not as a tyrannical ruler as people say for me to be. I may rule firmly but I do keep things fair and equal to all of my subjects. May I please know your name young phoenix?" Celestia had asked the familiar of her son. The phoenix nodded as his head stood up tall with his smaller wings extending their full wing span, " I am Ryze, the God of the Pheonix giving them hope to bring back our civilization to what it once was many centuries ago." The pheonix went back into his sitting position on Spike's shoulder relaxing his wings, while Celestia giggled at the display of the Pheonix.
"My my, what a unique familiar I am seeing here. You really are a special one, say I do believe I have some feed for when I had myself a Pheonix pet. If you would follow me" Celestia spoke, when Ryze gave a loud squak. "You had me at feed, lead the way Ma'am." The god had followed Celestia as she gave Dorroth a kiss on his muzzle, "I think its time husband." The dragon nodded at his wife's words, contemplating if his son is truly ready for the world that would soon come ahead because of his heritage and the excruciating training that he must endure. Dorroth must bring his son's body into shape to be able to do what he must for the dangers that will come ahead because of the rumors that the older dragon has been hearing.
"My son, tomorrow starts your training. Your dragon's blood is roaring to unleash itself into you, but the question is are you ready to take on what must be done?" Dorroth spoke with a quiet yet firm tone. "You will be sore, and there will be blood but I assure you I will not let you die, my son." The older dragon put his paw on Spike's shoulder as he transformed into his human form. "You are my greatest creation, Spike, you are truly everything I had hoped you would become. Will you be able to continue what this old dragon was not able to do?" Spike looked up into his father's eyes that had been full of worry and guilt from his mistakes in his past. "Dad, I will do everything in my power to be able to bring honor back to our family. I promise you that." He gave his dad a big hug, wrapping his arms fully around his dad's torso. "I will make you proud Dad, I will do everything I can to make sure I make you proud!"
