Lone Caretaker Of The Castle In The Sky

Starlight Glimmer was in her rooming pondering about Azure Grace the unicorn that had responded to her letter. Especially about having a cracked horn what unicorn could live with something like that. She decided to seek answers to this hopefully Azure Grace was still up it was near nine p.m. at night so she may have been preparing to sleep. Starlight thought about what to write maybe it had been cracked through an accident as filly.

She could be accidentally stirring up memories that had been best left forgotten. This would be a slight gamble in a few aspects one being that this could make the unicorn hesitant to respond to future letters. Starlight decided to take it just would only brush than topic rather than being forceful. She searched around the bedroom for some writing parchment and a quill to write with this was going to be pretty nerve wracking.

Dear Azure Grace,

Sorry about writing a letter in the middle of the night instead of waiting till sunrise. My mentor is very curious about your archive section she couldn't stop drooling over the possibility of thousands of unread books. Anyway I would like to thank you for the offer I may use it in the near future I forgot to mention that my mentor has a dragon assistant named Spike. So please cast flame protection in advance due to an accidental sneeze causing flames.

There is another subject that I would like to ask about your previous letter. You wrote that you had a slightly cracked horn forgive me if this brings up bad memories. Were you attacked by an animal that hit your horn or something along those lines. Sorry, it's just that cracked horns on unicorns are rare to find and even a slight chip can mess up even a basic spell.

I know that you mentioned it causes you pain to use spells due to pressure build up in your head. I do not mean to pry it is just this question has been rattling in my brain for a few hours. I understand if you don't want to write about this topic.

Azure Grace read over the letter that had almost fallen off of the edge, into a pond while she had been taking a walk through the garden it had been a close call. She did her best to remember how her mother explained it all those years ago.
"Azure you were born with this crack un your horn due to your father having a distant ancestor who was an alicorn with a slightly curved horn. Unfortunately, this means that you will grow up having difficulties controling your magic.

But since you have our bloodline in your viens their is a large amount of magic already inside of you. Make sure to practice whenever you can as along as you don't push your limits to much your skull can only handle that much pressure for so long. Please make sure that you can one day get a feel for your magic juding how much to use. That will help you in the future for now please take care of our home until the day we are allowed to return, I will miss you dearly."

Those memories of when her mother had to leave were never sad because of how many years it had been for the unicorn. She never felt alone just mostly bored it was lucky that the castle had so many books to read along with her practice. Azure Grace recalled that from the days in about five months her birthday would roll around marking another special occasion. She went to her room to began writing a response to Starlight's letter it would be best to explain the situation making her feel guilty.

Dear Starlight Glimmer,

Don't worry about it. You see I have an ancestor on my father's side of the family who had a slightly curved horn. This was passed down to me through genes resulted in me being born with a slightly cracked horn it is completly natural. I can understand how confusing this must be for a mare who has never heard of it in her lifetime. It was a large issue when I was a filly it seemed that younger unicorns kept losing concentration mid spell resulting in inner cracks.

I have an outer crack that causes build up do not worry through much practice I have learned how to judge the necessary amount to use. With as much free time as I have it has been calculated quite well, and just tell me the title of the book so I cam check the records. I was taking a walk through the garden by the way might want to put water protection on your letters your latest one almost fell into the pond. I will take your warning about Spike though I must say... write that I have seen dragons before they sometimes try to take gems from open viens in moutains near my home.

As you can already guess they never stopped to chat, from what you wrote I have a few questions to ask is Spike purple with green spikes and light green scale stomach rows. I can recall a few years ago I has found a purple egg that I left to a nearby egg collector who would pass it on to somepony taking a magic test. I know that not many dragons have hatched in the last few years so that is why I am asking. From what I know about his specific dragon species he should be wingless by this age, if I can recall correctly.

I did not believe that I would be capable of taking care of a dragon in such an isolated home that I care for so turning his egg to someone else seemed best. I remember that day well seeing as it happened a day before my birthday. Speaking of my birthday is in about five months, I am turning about a million so it is quite an occasion for myself.

Starlight could not decide on which was more unbelievable the fact that Azure Grace claimed to be turning one million, or that she guessed Spike's description. She rushed to show Twilight who was up with a project it would make particial sense for two things Azure Grace was an alicorn or had casted an age spell.

Twilight spoke "It would explain why she wrote that her family lived far off they must be a family of alicorns. Or she could be wearing an artifact that prolongs her life. Or poss--" The purple alicorn was interupted by another letting popping into existance only it was quite short in length when compared to Azure Grace's other letters. It was almost as though the unicorn could have seen the entire scene take place.

P.S Found a bit more paper stashed away. Guess I should write that I have to make sure that my home stays a secret so unless you promise to keep any information between ponies you trust. Search for the tale of the Castle in the Sky or ask the Royal Sisters it has been a long time since they visited. I am a unicorn who comea from a long line of Alicorns having that blood makes me live long.

Twilight Sparkle quickly had Spike draft a letter to both Princess Celestia, and Princess Luna while Starlight searched through the many books. A single book mentionting the legend was found only lasting a single page. It read ' The Castle In The Sky was said to be home to all alicorns in the past until a unicorn was born indicating there presence was no longer needed. The unicorn had to stay behind to care foe her home until the others returned, we only have proof of this legend from a supposed adopted relative of the alicorns. Saying that a mare named Azure Grace would bring the others back."

Princess Celestia wrote a short letter explaining that both her sister and herseld had visited that place as fillies. Disappointed to find the castle empty athough it hardly had shown any wear. Luna did recall seeing a pony as they flew off until after blinking to clear her eyes the figure had disappeared.
