The Pony Scrolls: Equestria
Gift Horse
Previous ChapterNext ChapterTwilight and Orion were flipping through book after book, tyring to find a key, a piece of information that could help them in any capacity. Without it, hope seemed to be luxury. Twilight looked up from a large volume and said,
“Orion, none of these books have any rhyme or reason to it.” She tossed the book on the ground from frustration. “Didn't he organize anything? Didn't he have any method to his chaos.” Orion tossed another book and searched through another shelf.
“Not from what I can tell.” He picked up an old photo of him and his father. It was when Orion first opened up his bar, and his father was there shaking his hoof. You always were proud of me Dad, no matter what I did. Orion held back his tears and continued searching. “He probably thought that he'd be discovered and that keeping his notes organized would have the Alicorns discover a threat to them- if there is any- and destroy it.”
Twilight nodded. “It's an old war strategy: don't leave anything for the enemy to use.” Twilight then noticed something about some of the journals, they had markings. “But, if there's a chance an ally could use something, leave a message on how to get to it.” She started shuffling the books around to have the markings on the journals match up.
“What are you doing?” Orion asked Twilight.
Twilight stopped and looked Orion and asked, “Do you like puzzles Orion?” Orion chuckled a little bit.
“We've got one in front of us right now, why do you ask?” Twilight grabbed a book Orion was holding and placed it on the ground. Orion looked down, and saw an image taking form before him. Without saying anything, he kept finding books with similar markings and placed them in the appropriate places.
Orion and Twilight stepped back, and saw the image before them. It was an image of compass, with the symbols of “North, South, East, and West.” replaced by symbols of different creatures in Equestria. North for the Dragons, South for the Diamond Dogs, East for Elks, and West for Buffalo. Orion and Twilight looked at each other, confused.
“So, my dad wanted to lay out where the animals were? For what? Some places to go for help? Form an army or something?” Orion asked. Twilight chewed on her hoof and noticed the circle that encompassed the compass had markings on it. She read it carefully, her eyes widened.
“It's a spell!” She yelled. Orion inspected the spell.
“It's written in an old language from the looks of it. Maybe Horsk?” Orion looked to Twilight for an answer.
“Yeah . . .” Twilight touched the words and spoke them aloud, “Hvis det er fakta du søker, les dette høyt og alt vil bli avslørt.” As she spoke the final word, a light flashed them both. They stumbled back blinded. They looked to the map which was now glowing and had a ghostly figure floating above it.
“Dad.” Orion said dumbfounded. The figure, standing tall spoke to Orion.
“Hello son. I see you figured out my puzzle.” He turned to Twilight. “With a little help from the looks of it.” They both nodded their heads. Orion lifted himself off the ground and walked over to the ghostly figure of his father.
“Dad, I- I don't understand. How-?”
“I'm not a ghost, I'm a memory fragment.” He floated down to the ground and walked towards his research area. “When I first discovered Celestia's plan, I went mad as you well remember.” Twilight and Orion only stared. “That was Celestia's doing. You see, when I discovered her ruse, I was planning on bringing it before the Mages of Canterlot.” He paused and turned to his son and friend. “She intercepted me, and used a spell to drive me to madness. The information however was still there, and with it, a little bit of myself.” He flew back into the air and looked up. “I had little time, I had to get my information out, protect it, and keep Celestia unaware of my little bit of sanity.”
He floated over to his map. “This is but a small representation of what I had stored in my head. But with that spell you spoke, you took all the information I knew and implanted it within your heads.” Twilight and Orion's stood back surprised at this revelation. “Originally, the information was supposed to go to one pony, but it would appear that the information was split between the two of you.”
“Okay, Dad. Look I believe you, but I don't know anything more than what I've read, which appears to be a lot of nothing.” Orion said with an apologetic look in his eye. His father laughed.
“I told you that I was a memory fragment, correct? This is taking place in your mind, in both your minds!” Orion's father said.
“So how can I understand what Orion asked you?” Twilight asked. Essan put a hoof to his mouth and clopped it against the ground.
“Did you two cast a Memory Connection spell?” Essan asked.
“Yeah, when I needed to show Twilight where I lived.” Orion said. “But that was supposed to have worn off right?” Essan chuckled.
“Sometimes, when there is an affinity between two ponies, their minds can connect for quite a while.” Orion and Twilight looked at each other, and then looked away and blushed. Essan laughed again. “I won't go any further into that, but I will tell you what I know.” He floated back up and spoke. “You know that you Element Bearers are powerful correct? Well, the reason why is because you are, as the dragons put it, 'Alikiin', Alicorn born.” Twilight looked down and spoke.
“But, I'm not an Alicorn. I don't have any wings.” Essan shook his head.
“To be Alikiin does not mean you have to be an Alicorn. It means you possess the raw power that they possess. And any normal abilities you do possess, is amplified ten fold- possibly more.” Twilight pondered this, and then said.
“So since my special talent is magic itself, my magic-”
“Is on the same level or possibly even beyond that of an Alicorn.” Essan interrupted. Orion entered the conversation.
“But what does the map have to do with any of this?” He asked.
“The map shows the location of where the Bearers can learn to amplify their abilities. Twilight, you must go to learn magic from the Dragons. Their magic rivals that of the Alicorns, and if you mastered both, you would be unstoppable. As for your friends, I learned about their powers from the prophecy.”
He then used his powers to display images of Twilight's friends. “Applejack, the bearer of Honesty, has sheer strength that is unparalleled to any pony. She must go to the Buffalo and learn to become the strongest in the land.” He then turned to an image of Rainbow Dash. “Rainbow Dash is the fastest pegasus alive. But she needs to go into the skies and learn from a race known as the 'Albatro's'.” He pointed towards Rarity. “She is the Element of Generosity yes? Well she has the ability to get anything she wants. Be it through persuasion, bartering, and even thievery.” He chuckled a bit. “Her family has quite a little history.” Orion and Twilight looked at Essan with confusion. “She'll tell you when she's ready. In any case, take her to see the Diamond Dogs- her abilities will be above anything you could ever imagine.” He moved on to Fluttershy. “This one has the ability to commune with animals. Her power goes far beyond that. If she went to the Elks, she could in theory be able to understand any creature and be able to heal them as well.” He then looked to Pinkie Pie, and cringed. “Pinkie Pie- she was the real oddity in my studies.”
“She's an oddity in real life as well.” Twilight said.
“Not just in that aspect Twilight.” Essan said. “She is chaotic to say the least, and that is what she is- chaos.”
“I don't understand.” Orion said. “Are you saying that she-”
“Is the embodiment of Chaos.” Essan said. Twilight stepped forward.
“But, she's nothing like Discord- She's a good pony!” Twilight knew Pinkie was crazy, but not like Discord, not crazy enough to hurt other ponies.
“Discord was corrupted by Chaos.” Essan said. “Originally, here was a Draconis, but in order to win against the Alicorns, he had to be possessed by it in order to get the necessary power to create that portal to the other realm. He was turned into that being as a result.”
“Could he be changed back?” Orion asked. “Maybe he could help us.”
“I don't know.” Essan said. “But he may be too far gone, too far destroyed to be anyone else other than that creature that tried to turn this land into a mess.” Orion looked down, and pitied the creature that was originally a hero but made a villain because of Celestia. “Pinkie on the other hand, is chaos. All the powers of Chaos, focused into one being.”
Essan looked over to Twlight. “Has she ever done something that could not be explained, something that could not be believed?” Twilight nodded, she knew all too well. He trotted into the center of the map. “In any case, you both possess this knowledge, and you both have the ability to make the salvation of Equestria possible.” He turned to Orion. “You are not Alikiin, but that doesn't mean you can't help. You're magic, defense, could be used to help them on their journey. They need your knowledge and your power to help.” Orion nodded, knowing his mission. “It would appear that the two of you will need to split up to get all of this done before the Alicorns destroy the land.” Orion and Twilight nodded, but they feared what laid before them. “As for how else you should proceed, I leave that up to you two. Good luck, and Faust speed.”
The image flickered away, and the map that was once lit brightly like the sun, had faded into darkness. Orion and Twilight galloped up the stairs to tell their friends about the plan.
