Without Colors
Boastful Colors
Previous ChapterGet ready for some reading. I was watching the episode as I wrote this so... (dialog [majority] belongs to Hasbro, etc. Tiny Hooves to me)
“Twenty-five different tricks, Twi!” Spike beamed, his eyes bright as he walked between Twilight Sparkle and Tiny Hooves. “Twenty-five and counting!”
“That really is amazing, Twi.” Tiny laughed, as Twilight blushed softly. “Oh come now, don’t get all shy on us, we’ve seen your magic. You’re the best unicorn in all of Ponyville!”
“I only thought Unicorns were supposed to have a little magic that matches their special talent.” Spike jumped onto Tiny’s back, as a cart of hay passed them. He jumped off her back when it passed.
“I-I am not, you’re really good with your magic, Tiny.” Twilight tried turning the attention onto the smaller mare. “And that’s true Spike, for when a pony is good at things like cooking, but if their special talent is magic-”
“Like you, Twilight. And you know a ton of magic!”
“Oh, Spike stop, I’m sure there are other ponies right here in Ponyville who know just as much magic as me. Like Tiny!” Twilight, again tried turning the attention of the conversation onto Tiny Hooves.
Tiny laughed and shook her head. “Nope. I’m only good at stealin’ colors, Twi.”
Spike started to speak up when Snips and Snails ran into him, carrying him away from the two older mares. The two gasped and ran after them, catching up to them when they stopped. Tiny frowned when they started talking about a unicorn that was the best ever. She rolled her eyes when Twilight and Spike started following them to the town square.
“Come one! Come all! Come and witness the amazing magic of the Great and Powerful Trixie!”
Tiny was already sticking her tongue out, making fake gagging noises. “She’s all ready annoying to me.” She whispered to Spike, who in turn laughed. “I mean seriously. Who rolls their r’s like that?”
“Watch in awe, as the great and powerful Trixie preforms the most spectacular feats of magic ever witnessed by pony eyes!” The blue unicorn cried out, fireworks going off behind her as her cape blew behind her.
“My, my, my. What boasting.” Rarity wrinkled her nose, scoffing at the site of the new unicorn.
“Come on! No pony is as magical as Twi....twi...” His ears flopped down as he stared at Rarity. “Twi...oh...hey Rarity. I uh.....mustache!!”
Tiny and Rarity gave puzzled looks to each other before shrugging and watching Trixie. “There’s nothing wrong with being talented, is there?” Twilight asked as she walked up to the two.
“Nothin’ at awl.” Applejack spoke up, looking back at Trixie. “Sept’n’ when somepony goes around showin’ it off like a schoolfilly with fancy new ribbons.”
“Just because one has the ability to preform lots of magic, does not make one better than the rest of us.” Rarity harped.
“Especially with me around being better than the rest of us.” Rainbow Dash beamed, laughing awkwardly when Applejack shot her a dirty look. “I mean...uh...yeah! Magic shmagic! Boo!”
“Well, well, well. It seems we have some NEIGH-sayers in the audience. Who is so ignorant as to challenge the magical ability of the great and powerful Trixie?! Do they not know that they’re in the presence of the most magical unicorn in all of Equestria?!”
“Pfffft. Just who does she think she is?” Rarity looked at Tiny, rolling her eyes.
“So, Great and powerful Trixie,” Rainbow Dash flew up to the mare, eyeing her. “What makes you think you’re so awesome anyway?”
Trixie laughed, tipping her magical hat. “Well, only the great and powerful Trixie has magic strong enough to vanquish the dreaded Ursa Major!” All the ponies gasped, doubting the magical mare at first. “When all hope was lost, the ponies of Hoofington had no pony to turn to but the Great and Powerful Trixie stepped in and with her awesome magic, vanquished the Ursa Major and sent it back to it’s cave deep within the Everfree Forest!”
“That settles it! Trixie really is the most magical, most talented, most awesomest unicorn in all of Ponyville!” Snails boasted.
“No! In all of Equestria!” Snips corrected him.
“How do you know!? You didn’t see it! And besides Twi-” Spike talking around the zipper that was his lips now thanks to Twilight’s magic.
“Spike!” Twilight whispered.
“It’s true my enthusiastic little admirers, Trixie is most certainly the best in all of Ponyville.” The crowd was quiet, Twilight’s jaw was hanging loose while the others were glaring at the blue pony. “Don’t believe the great and powerful Trixie? Well then, I hereby challenge you Ponyvillians...anything you can do....I can do better!”
“Oh yeah?” Tiny stepped forward, Twilight gasped and tried pulling her back.
“Oh, you think you can do something Trixie cannot?”
A smirk appeared on Tiny’s face, her horn flared in a bright green and just as soon as it lit up, it disappeared, and Trixie’s colors went with the glow.
Trixie and the crowd gasped. “What did you do to the great and powerful Trixie’s colors?!”
“I don’t know, what did I do to them? Didn’t you just say anything we can do, you could do better? Take mine, I dare you.” Tiny narrowed her eyes, challenging the mare.
“This isn’t magic! This is trickery!” Trixie cried out. “Give it back!”
“Tiny...” Rarity bumped the mare with her flank. “Be nice, give her her colors back.”
Tiny frowned, a light exploded from her horn, returning the colors back to Trixie. “Anypony with real magic!?” Trixie went back to challenging them.
Spike hugged Twilight’s hooves. “Please! Please! She’s terrible! You gotta show her! You just gotta!”
“There’s no way I’m going to use my magic now, Spike. Especially since-”
“How about......you!” Trixie pointed into the crowed, right at Twilight. “Well how about it? Is there anything you can do that the great and powerful Trixie can’t?”
“I...I...” Twilight stuttered, looking at the ground.
“Well, little hayseed?”
“That’s it! I can’t stand for no more of this!” Applejack moved forward. “Can your magical powers do...this?!” She had a lasso, doing her famous tricks, the crowd cheered after she finished. “Top that missy!”
“Oh, ye of little talent. Watch and be amazed by the magic of Trixie!” The rope glowed and danced in the air in front of AJ’s face, while the other end wrapped around her hooves, pulling them out from under her. “Once again, the great and powerful Trixie prevails.”
Tiny sat down, watching as the others started challenging. Rainbow Dash flew into the sky, going through the clouds and then back down, water following her, splashing against her when she landed, creating a rainbow behind her. She sighed as she watched Rarity grew angry with Rainbow Dash and Applejack, stepping forward when Trixie called her mane a rats nest.
Rarity ran crying passed Tiny with a green mane. Tiny rolled her eyes. “I’ll help her when we’re finished here. Your turn, Twi.” She frowned when Twilight ran off, making up an excuse. She looked down at Spike. “I’m going to help Rarity with her mane, you...go help Twilight, or whatever it is you baby dragons do.” She took off after Twilight, veering left to Rarity’s home. When she got there she knocked on the door.
“Go away!”
“Rarity, it’s Tiny. I can help you with your mane.”
Rarity opened the door, teary eyed and sniffling. “You will?”
“Of course. Why wouldn’t I?” Tiny walked in and sat down, her horn glowed as she stole the green. “Now, let’s find your shade, shall we?”
Rarity sat in front of the mirror, watching her mane change shades of purple. “Nope. No. No. Almost. No. Not really. Ew! Not that dark! Just a little lighter-”
The two mares ran outside when they felt the ground shake, Rarity let out a scream and shut the door. “Was that what I think it was?” Tiny looked at Rarity then poked her head back out. “Yes...it was!” She ran out, Rarity hard on her heels. They came to a stop, watching as Trixie admitted she’d never done such a thing as vanquishing the Ursa.
Spike nudged Twilight, frowning when she paused. Tiny came up next to her and touched their horns against each others. “You can do it. We’re all counting on you, Twi.”
Twilight swallowed hard and slowly walked up to the Ursa. She bowed her head a little and her horn glowed, plants rubbed against each other, causing a sort of music. Then the water tower top came off, dumping the water out.
“Nice use of number sixteen if I say so myself.” Spike smiled at Tiny.
The water tower top moved through a barn, collecting milk. “Well, I do say!” Everypony heard one cow holler.
“That was new.” Spike watched as the magic around Twilight’s horn grew and grew, it caught the star filled bear before it could fall on Trixie, lifting it into the air and giving it the milk filled water tower. Twilight panted as she moved the Ursa back to its cave.
The whole town cheered, Rainbow Dash flew around some. “That was awesome!!”
“Holy to betsy! I knew you had talent, just not that much!” Applejack cheered.
“I’m sorry guys.” Twilight hung her head. “Please don’t hate me.”
“Hate you? Where’d you get that idea from?” Applejack frowned.
“You guys said how much you hated Trixie’s magic...and I-”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa! Magic had nothing to do with it!” Rainbow Dash gave her friend a playful glare. “She was just a loud mouth!”
“Yes, most unpleasant.” Rarity joined.
“All hat and no cattle!” Applejack smiled.
“So...you don’t mind my magic tricks?” Twilight gave them a skeptical look, frowning a little.
“Your magic is a part of who you are, Sugar cube.” Applejack smiled even more. “And we’re proud to have such a powerful and talented unicorn such as yourself in our little town.”
“And after whoopin’ that Ursa’s hind quarters we’re even prouder!” Rainbow Dash bounced some.
“You are?!”
“Wow, Twilight, how’d you know what to do with that Ursa major?” Spike jumped onto Tiny’s back, smiling.
“That’s what I was doing when you came and got me, Spike. I was intrigued by Trixie’s story that I had to do a little research on them.”
“So, it is possible to vanquish an Ursa Major all by herself?”
“That...wasn’t an Ursa Major. It was a baby, an Ursa Minor.”
“That was just a baby?!” Trixie spoke up, shocked.
“And it wasn’t rampaging, it was just cranky because somepony woke it up.” Twilight glared and Snip and Snails.
“If that was an Ursa Minor...then what’s an Ursa Major like?!” Spike leaned forward on Tiny’s head.
Twilight laughed a little. “You don’t want to know.”
“You may have vanquished an Ursa Minor...but you’ll never have the show stopping ability of the great and powerful Trixie!” The blue mare ran off after a puff of black smoke disappeared.
Rainbow Dash started after her, coming to a halt when Twilight spoke up. “Just let her go. Maybe one day she’ll learn her lesson.” She and Tiny blocked the path of Snips and Snails. “As for you two...”
“We’re sorry we woke up the Ursa Minor...” Snips cowered a bit.
“We just wanted to see some awesome magic!” Snails wiggled, smiling big.
“And the way you vanquished that Ursa Minor was awesome!” Snips jumped up.
Twilight glared down at them, not backing down when they cowered down again. “We deserve whatever you give us.”
“First off, you can clean all of this up.” Twilight looked at the mess around the town. “And what do you say, Spike?”
“Hmmm...” Spike smiled. “I think twenty-five would do. And I think I deserve it too!”
Tiny laughed as the three had mustaches. She watched as the others slowly filed out, heading back to their homes. She turned and headed towards the train station.
“Tiny!” Twilight ran up behind her, having to trot to keep up. “Are you headed back to Canterlot?”
“Yeah. I’ve had enough excitement for a while.” Tiny yawned and wiggled some.
“Well, could you come back to the library? I want to write Celestia a letter, and was wondering if you would deliver it?”
Tiny stared at Twilight for a moment. “Yeah. I can do that.” She followed Twilight back to the library. When they got there, she split from Twilight, going over to the book shelves and reading over titles. “You all should come visit me sometime in Canterlot.”
“We would love to!” Twilight walked up to Tiny, giving her the rolled up paper. “The Gala is going to be coming up in a few months, will you be attending?”
Tiny put on a saddle bag, putting the letter in it. “Uhm...no. I don’t like the Gala, I usually just stay up in my room. Luna will be there this year.” She smiled at Twilight.
Twilight looked at Tiny, smiling. “Is she nice?”
“We’re helping her out with talking and not...yelling.” Her green ears laid flat on her head as she thought of how many times Princess Luna used her ‘royal canterlot voice’ on her, by accident. “But, I need to head back. Princess Celestia will want to read this, and will need help with Princess Luna still.”
“All right, we might try to visit you before the Gala.” Twilight beamed as she watched her friend leave. After the door shut she frowned, sitting down. She glanced at the books, seeing one was on the floor. It was the history of Equestria. She pulled it closer, seeing Tiny had left if open to different ponies that had been through this place, leaving their marks on it. She shut it, putting it back on the shelf in its rightful place.
