A Generous Death
Her Kingdom Come
Load Full StoryRarity checked the clock on the wall impatiently. It was already 6:59 PM, and Twilight was supposed to arrive in under a minute. Of course, she would probably be late because of all her royal duties, not that it could really be helped. Well, I suppose even Twilight struggles under the workload of being a pr-- Rarity's thoughts were interrupted by a gentle knocking on the door. "Coming, dear!" Rarity opened the door and was greeted by the face of her royal friend. "Oh my, Twilight. You're right on time," she said, looking at the clock.
"Of course. I mean, I couldn't be late for dinner with one of my best friends," answered Twilight, giving Rarity a good natured smile. "And I brought board games!" Her horned glowed as she levitated a set of game boxes from behind her. Rarity squinted at the small text on the sides. Saddleship, Maneopoly, Dragon Pit... They all looked and sounded horrendously drab and uncultured, but she had bigger things to worry about.
"O-Oh yes, perhaps we can find some time to engage in those... activities after dinner," said Rarity, casually tossing the lot into the nearest closet.
"Hey, careful! I borrowed Dragon Pit from Starlight, and she'd kill me if something happened to it." Twilight giggled as she followed Rarity into the dining room, only half joking. She nodded in appreciation of the stylish decor that lined the walls, though she learned never to expect anything less than stylistic perfection from Rarity when it came to fashion. The princess walked up closer to get a better look at one of the paintings.
"Twilight dear," Rarity called. The purple pony was facing away from her, completely unsuspecting and vulnerable, but it wasn't time just yet. Rarity licked her lips in anticipation. Tonight was going to be marvelous. "You didn't bring your crown with you?"
Twilight turned her head briefly before focusing back on the artwork on the walls. "No, I don't usually wear it unless I need to for special occasions," she replied, tilting her head. "Should I have brought it?"
Rarity shook her head with a smile. I can always get it later. "No, it's fine darling. I just thought perhaps I co-- er, you might be interested in a photo shoot after our dinner tonight. She saw the princess's eyes widen as she spoke. Clearly, she hadn't been expecting the proposition.
"I'm sorry, Rarity! I didn't know, but if you'd like, I could go back and grab it in a flash." Twilight flapped her wings in preparation for the flight as she headed for the front door before Rarity caught her.
"It's nothing to worry about," Rarity said confidently. "After all, I couldn't call myself a designer if I didn't already have outfits made for the occasion before asking!" She led Twilight back to the dining room and pulled out two chairs. "I think you will be very happy about our appetizers for tonight." Levitating out a tray, she removed the cloth to unveil a stack of daffodil sandwiches.
"Wow, those look amazing, Rarity! May I try one?" Twilight asked.
Rarity smirked as she watched the princess barely hold herself back as she waited for confirmation. "Of course. You really don't need to ask, Twilight."
Twilight raised a sandwich to her mouth and took a bite, her eyes sparking in delight. "These are delicious. Could I get the recipe from you later?" She took another bite, finishing off the other portion.
"I'm glad to hear that. I designed them myself. But I'm afraid I can't give you the recipe," Rarity said with a sigh.
"Aww, why not? I can keep it a secret if you want," Twilight reassured her, but Rarity just shook her head.
"No no, I trust you Twilight. I'm just afraid..."
"Of what?" Twilight asked in concern for her friend.
Rarity pointed behind the princess. "It's just that behind you there..." When the princess turned around, Rarity immediately leaped out of her seat with a sharp knife gripped between her teeth. The table jolted as she bumped into it, lunging for Twilight's neck. The princess turned at the loud sound, but it was too late. The knife buried itself easily in her neck, the white table cloth instantly stained deep crimson. Rarity locked eyes with Twilight, and in that moment she could see the hurt and betrayal her friend was feeling. She wondered if Twilight would turn her back on the power of friendship in her final moments.
"Why the fuck you stab me bitch?"
"Huh?" Rarity gasped. She's tougher than I gave her credit for. "It's nothing personal, Twilight. Actually, it is. Your crown was such a waste on you with your plain mane and horribly boring style. Don't worry you stupid book nerd, I'll take good care of it. In fact, I'll take good care of Equestria for you as well."
"Go to Tartarus and shut your whore mouth. Celestia will know what happened. You'll never get away with this..." The light in the princess's eyes was fading, and she spat at Rarity in her final moments. Rarity didn't flinch, feeling the wet saliva on her face. She dipped her head slowly and pressed her lips against Twilight's as a final farewell.
Later in The Castle of The Two Sisters...
"You're saying Twilight came to visit you, and when she arrived at your door there was a knife in her neck?" Celestia asked. Rarity nodded, her dark makeup running as tears flowed down her face. "And her dying wish was for you to take her place as owner of her crown and become royalty?" continued Celestia.
"Yes, she told me that my generosity and perfect fashion sense would make me the greatest ruler Equestria will ever see. But she told me not to let any other pony know what she said, even Luna and our friends." Celestia nodded solemnly, a single tear rolling down her cheek. Oh Twilight, what will I do without you...
"Rarity, do you promise to uphold the image and responsibilities of a royal princess? It is not an easy task, and I will only ask once."
Rarity jumped up immediately. "Why, of course! Now give me the crown and the jewels, you old hag. Oh, and Twilight's old room!"
Celestia nodded. "All of it is now yours, Rarity. In fact, I will be retiring as ruler of Equestria and banishing Luna back to the moon, so you will be the sole ruler of Equestria forever. May you lead well, Rarity."
Nopony ever found out about Rarity's treachery and she lived a long and fashionable life.
