You smiled in satisfaction that you were about to pull off another robbery. Placing down your lamp, you made your way over to a desk, where many goods laid before you. You didn’t have to worry about anyone catching and arresting you, as it was already way past midnight. The only one who lived in this house was tied to a chair in the corner bleeding after the beating you gave him.
You admit you didn’t find sneaking into someone’s house and restraining them so you could take their things to be moral, but these kinds of means were necessary to survive ever since you landed here 7 years ago. Back home, you were extremely rebellious against your strict parents. Every day, they would always lecture you by using your “perfect older brother” as an example of what you should become.
As far as you were concerned, you didn’t do anything wrong. All you wanted was a chance to finally be free. Free to decide what you wanted to do and what you wanted to become when you were about to leave. You defied your parents to the very end and chose to go to college to seek your own career in engineering. Back then, you were in love with cars and trucks and even one day dreamed of designing your own vehicle.
Your dreams unfortunately, were completely crushed on the day you set out for your Spring break vacation. Having cut ties with your family, they of course wouldn’t be joining you, but your flight had a bit of some turbulence and ended up claiming the lives of all the passengers.
Rather than move on to heaven as you thought, you found yourself alone in some kind of deserted wasteland. As a perceptive man, you weren’t going to question how landing in another universe was possible, especially with all the dangers around you. What mattered was that you had been given another chance to live.
Knowing you wouldn’t survive in this wasteland, you made your way out to find civilization, which is how your 7 year journey began. Sneaking in from one town to the other, you were extremely careful to avoid the eyes of the civilians. Many of them were shady characters who made their profits by selling innocent creatures off as slaves and you would suffer the same fate if they caught you. What’s more is that you learned the civilians lived under the iron fist of a tyrant called the Storm King.
Desperate to survive, you constantly hid in the shadows stalking and stealing what you needed. Besides stealing, you prepared yourself for the hardships that awaited you by training yourself. However, you wouldn’t be able to stay in just one location and were forced to sneak out when the suspicions made your stay too risky.
After years of training and living in poor conditions, you’ve become a hardened man. Every day now felt like just another day in this rundown wasteland and you had gotten familiar with the layout of the cities from the maps you stole. Your latest stop was in a town called Klugetown, yet another location oppressed by the Storm King’s rule, or at least it used to be. You’ve been living here for 4 years, a much longer stay than you anticipated. Turns out as immoral as the civilians are, they aren’t very smart and rarely noticed when they’ve been robbed.
Since things didn’t seem so different around Klugetown, it was only until recently that you found out the Storm King has been dead for the past 3 years. With this knowledge, you didn’t see any reason to keep hiding in this dump, which is what led you to your current robbery of a crime boss named Verko.
“Some things never change, do they Verko?” you asked the naked mole rat. Though you knew you wouldn’t get much more than some grunting, since in addition to tying him up, you made sure to gag him as well. It took some work to sneak into a crook like Verko’s house, the last thing you needed was him crying for help. Despite all your training, you weren’t in the mood for dealing with more of his lackeys. As soon as you finished getting what you needed, you were going to make your way out of here.
“Don’t worry, I won’t kill you. For that matter, you won’t ever have to see me again, as I’m quite tired of this crappy town of yours,” you sighed opening a drawer and taking out some essentials you’ll need before your big send-off for yourself. For instance, you took some leftover bits he stashed away, which you plan on using for purchasing some grub on your trip. Ever since the Storm King was defeated, the currency has been switched from storm bucks to bits.
“I heard Capper’s deal for getting you a couple of ponies didn’t work out either,” you reminded bouncing the bag of bits in your hand and the mole rat looked to the side out of embarrassment. “Bet you feel like a real washed-up failure since that “precious cargo” hightailed it outta there.” you said, rubbing it in. “Ah who am I kidding, why should I be wasting my time talking to you anyway? You can’t even speak.”
You put the bits into your backpack, which was worn out, but still useful. Lifting your lamp you looked over at your map again. It was dirty of course, but you could still make out that civilization awaited you up north. Deciding it would be about a 3 day hike, you rolled up the map and placed it inside your backpack along with your other essentials.
Verko continued to struggle to no avail as he saw you make your way over to the window and open it. “Relax, I said I wouldn’t kill you and I’m a man of my word. By tomorrow morning surely a couple of your goons will notice your predicament and come to your rescue. Sadly, I’ll be long gone by then,” you said crawling out the window and closing it behind you.
Looking at Klugetown from your current height, you looked for any hints of civilization in the northern direction. All you could see was the empty wasteland hills of the Bone Dry Desert. You had at least 10 to 15 water bottles that you managed to smuggle from Verko. You would have to remind yourself no matter how hot it got along the journey, the water would have to be conserved. Descending from the house, you slowly made your way out of the city as carefully as you always did. You didn’t know what awaited you up north, but you did know it would be much better than life in the wastelands.
“I’ll ask one more time, get the fuck out of my way,” you snarled at the three crooks standing before you. Quite unfortunate that on the 2nd day of your journey you came across some of the few slave traders still remaining after the Storm King’s reign came to an end. Some fools just weren’t willing to abandon getting a quick buck out of selling living beings.
“You must be joking. After getting a gander at a specimen like you, there’s no way we’re gonna pass up on a one-way ticket to fame and fortune!” the first crook said. You’ve seen a lot of humanoid animals along your travels, this one appeared to be a rat.
“Now. be a good little… whatever you are and come quietly with us, or we’ll be forced to do this the hard way,” the second crook, who was a humanoid crocodile, threatened.
“So which one will it be, freak?” the last one asked. This one was a humanoid boar, probably the biggest of the group. Compared to him, you were the 3rd tallest.
“Make it as hard as you want, I don’t take no smack from some half-assed jokers like you. I’m warning you, though, I’m a professional when it comes to kicking others’ asses,” you said, putting up your dukes.
To your luck, the three crooks weren’t very smart and recklessly ran towards you with ropes in their hands. You calmly pulled out your trademark pipe and knocked the crocodile down by whacking his legs. Once the large boar got close enough, he grabbed your arm, but you pulled all of your weight into lifting him over your shoulder and slamming him to the ground. All that was left was the rat, whom you slowly approached, cracking your knuckles.
“What in Tartarus are you, you... you bastard?!” the rat asked.
“Your worst nightmare,” you said in a low, deep tone. Grabbing him by the throat, you gave him a hard punch to the gut followed by an uppercut to the chin, knocking him to the ground. Noticing the boar was still conscious and struggling to stand, you put him down with a quick kick to his face.
“Wasting so much of my precious time...” you grumbled as you picked up your backpack which you had set down before the fight. You then noticed a poor bird that had been captured by these three squawking loudly in its cage. You have indeed become hardened over these last 7 years, but you still had a soft side. Making your way over to the cage, you picked the lock and allowed the bird to fly away.
“Yeah that’s right. Be free, little guy,” you said in a calm voice. Looking back at the unconscious crooks, you decide to take advantage of the situation by looting them. As far as you were concerned, since they earned their profits through corrupt means, they shouldn’t have it. In addition to the bits you stole from Verko, you would make sure this money was put to good use upon reaching civilization.
You continued on your way through the Bone Dry Desert covering yourself from the hot sun with a cloak. You got a little thirsty after an hour or 2 of traveling, but you made sure not to drink too much water. With only 13 bottles, you had to make them last long enough. You can already tell this was going to be a long journey and you did not want to spend an entire night sleeping in this blazing desert.
Going to sleep never went by smoothly, as occasionally, you would wake up instinctively to check around for potential threats. This has become a very terrible habit ever since you first went into hiding. It was only when you were absolutely sure that you were safe that you managed to force yourself to get some sleep.
By the next morning, you started your simple routine by eating some ham for breakfast before once again moving up north. You held onto your cloak tightly, as today you were forcing your way through a sandstorm. Blocking the sand out of your eyes, you kept in the same direction, until you managed to find shelter once again.
Preserving your water didn’t seem to be working out as much as you hoped. You were almost completely drained after surviving the sandstorm and had no choice but to use up most of your water in order to recover. You were down to 7 and a half bottles of water. All the more reason not to keep wasting time just sitting around.
You were more grateful than ever that you took time during your years in the shadows to train yourself thoroughly. It’s definitely not an easy feat moving across this desert, though you’ve heard rumors that a small group from the lands above journeyed through the Bone Dry Desert when the Storm King invaded. If these rumors are true, you didn’t see any reason to just go back to a life of thievery and hiding.
Your luck was beginning to turn when you got through Bone Dry Desert the next day. For up in front of you, you saw a train that was making its way to your desired direction. That was your chance to use up the last of your strength to sprint the rest of the way. Though you were both tired and hungry, you didn’t give up and reaching for the railing on the back of the train, you pulled yourself on board.
Nobody seemed to have suspected anyone to sneak on board their train. Truthfully, before the plane crash, this was something that wouldn’t even think about doing, then again, you’ve done many crazy things in order to survive in harsh conditions. Such conditions have made you into an entirely different man. Thinking about it now, it made you feel like it’s been nothing but one hell of a toxic life. All of this thieving and stealing has to end some time and you planned on starting over soon.
You closed your eyes, you took in some of the nice fresh air blowing in your face. If you needed more evidence that you were headed for a better place, all you had to do was look at the train you were on. Though pink wasn’t your color, you still got some transportation and the train’s design wasn’t the kind a corrupt nation would use.
As the hours went by, both your hunger and the need to sleep grew worse. You could barely keep your eyes up and your balance was slipping. In order to keep yourself focused, you tried punching yourself to stay awake, but it didn’t work. You tried pinching your arms, but no luck. Nothing you did to keep yourself awake was helping. Pretty soon, you failed to keep your eyes open and passed out before feeling yourself fall.
You felt the impact of the ground as you fell off the train and tumbled into a strange forest before losing consciousness.
You expected upon waking up, your entire body would be in pain. For that matter, you expected you’d be find yourself on the cold forest grass. Quite the opposite for both of these things, as upon waking up you were mysteriously in excellent condition and rather than the forest, you appeared to be in some sort of house. Looking left and right, you found all sorts of unique objects including masks, urns and anything related to tribes.
“Ah I see you are finally awake, but you must rest a bit more for your own sake.” Any ordinary person might have panicked to not only wake up in an unfamiliar location but to discover that they’re not alone. However after everything you’ve been through, you rarely showed fear anymore and calmly just turned to the source.
Before your very eyes, you see a beautiful zebra woman with sky blue eyes. She wore these gold rings around her arms and this black bra, which barely contained her impressive rack. She had to have at least an F-cup bust size and a long black tribal skirt. She had a perfect well-toned figure, probably an inch or two shorter than you.
“Who the hell are you?” you asked.
“I promise an explanation will soon be in order, until then please don’t talk so vulgar. You really should not be so rude, as I’m the one who saved you from becoming manticore food,” she said.
“Uh... okay?” you slowly responded as you observed what she was doing. Judging by the scent hitting you nostrils, you immediately picked up on the scent of soup. “Is that soup I smell? I haven’t had any sort of homemade cooking in a long time.”
“You have a very good eye and this is a soup you simply must try,” she said with a smile. You quirked an eyebrow from the way she rhyme as she speaks.
“Okay then... thanks?” you replied just as slowly as before. She walks over and hands you a wooden bowl and spoon. Letting out a sigh, you scooped up a spoonful of the soup and slurped it slowly to avoid burning your tongue. It tasted delicious, much better than the food you’ve been stealing over the years. “That’s pretty good, how’d you learn to cook like this?” you asked.
“Cooking is as easy as potion brewing, if you know exactly what you’re doing,” she said.
“Okay, now I would like that explanation you promised please,” you said. “I believe I already asked before, what’s your name?”
“Zecora is what they call me, and who exactly might you be?” she asked. You tell her your name, but you weren’t generous enough to tell her anymore about yourself, at least not yet.
It was quite the opposite for the zebra in front of you. Even though you weren’t much of an open book, Zecora didn’t hesitate to give you a little more information. Such included that she found you unconscious out in what was known as the Everfree Forest and you would’ve been eaten by manticores if she hadn’t intervened. You’ve heard of the manticores from a book you read, but never had the privilege of seeing one, as they are quite uncommon in the Bone Dry Desert.
“I live alone in this hut out here, but Ponyville is not too far away my dear,” Zecora added. Hearing that proved your theory was correct and there was indeed civilization up north. You were about to head for the door when Zecora stopped you by grabbing your hand.
“I can see you’re quite an impatient one, aren’t you? There are some things we must attend to. Broken teeth don’t make a good look, it makes you appear like some sort of crook,” she chuckled as she made you sit back down. You felt awkward, as the zebra mare didn’t realize how right she was. “I fixed this mixture before you awakened. It’ll fix those teeth so the ponies won’t be mistaken.”
You raised an eyebrow as Zecora handed you another bowl. This one was smaller than the one she served soup with and held a bright purple liquid. Seeing as you had nothing to lose, you took the bowl and slowly drank the warm liquid. The taste of the liquid was pretty sweet, but later turned into a bitter aftertaste.
You worried about the sweet taste because it might have a nasty effect with one of your teeth with the cavity, but that wasn’t important. The effect was almost immediate, soon you could feel that your teeth, which have been badly damaged, were somehow growing back and the cavities seemed to be disappearing.
“Hey, that wasn’t so bad,” you said very much impressed. Tracing over your teeth with your tongue, they felt as good as new. “How did you do that?”
“I’m a specialist in magic mixtures you see, I can brew up almost any kid of remedy. Now for something about that breath of yours, it’s never good to leave your hygiene poor.” While Zecora fixed up another potion, you passed the time looking at yourself from an empty bottle. With your teeth fixed, those handsome looks which you’d never see again, were slowly coming back.
‘I definitely have to make it up to her later ,’ you thought as you continued to admire Zecora’s handy work. This was much more efficient than visiting a dentist and getting implants, given this land you entered actually has dentists. Speaking of which, you remembered what Zecora said about a town called Ponyville.
“Zecora, you said you could brew up just about any kind of potion. From my understanding, you could make a fortune with your special skills, yet you choose to stay here. Could you tell me the reason why, please?” you asked.
“Fame and fortune does not interest me, my life is perfectly fine as far as I can see. It doesn’t take a clear mind to see that, otherwise I’d be drawn in and turn into a spoiled brat,” Zecora explained with a slight chuckle.
“Well, I guess that makes sense,” you replied, unable to stop yourself from chuckling a bit as well. ‘I probably will never figure out why she always rhymes like that? Is it a type of custom for her to do so, or is it just a bad habit ,’ you thought.You seriously doubt that you would get an answer if you asked her. Instead, you might end up accidentally offending her, so you held back such a question.
“I don’t see any reason to keep you waiting, having bad breath can be quite irritating,” Zecora said before pouring her now completed potion into a bowl. Looking down at the bowl as she gave it to you, you saw that instead of purple, this mixture was bright green. With a deep breath, you drank up the potion and soon felt it taking effect.
It was a little slower than the last potion, but very soon your mouth caught a slightly chilly sensation that disappeared almost as quickly as it arrived. You breathing into your hand a few times, you smiled as you discovered that the foul, fishy smell was finally gone.
“Hey, thanks, is there anything I can do to pay you back?” you asked. “I know it’s a bit strange, but suddenly I feel I can’t just leave here like I originally planned. You did rescue me and took me in, so it’s only fair that I return the favor. Is there any way I can repay you for all you’ve done for me?” you asked.
“Willing to repay a debt, you are quite wise. It just so happens I’m a little short on supplies. I was going to go to Ponyville just like you had planned, you can repay me by kindly giving me a helping hand,” Zecora said. She then walked over to the corner and pulled out a brown cloak that was similar to your own.
“Consider it done,” you replied.
It seemed like the Everfree Forest was like one big labyrinth. And if you were to walk around this forest alone, you’d end up as chow for those hungry manticores Zecora mentioned earlier. Thankfully, Zecora knew which path to take in order to exit the forest like the back of her hand.
Ponyville was unlike any of the other lands you visited. It was a nice, clean environment and the locals of this town were all multi-colored humanoid ponies. From the moment they all saw you, they gave you a friendly wave, not even fazed by the fact that you weren’t one of them. Once again, your perceptive side kicked in and you theorized that their lack of fear meant they’ve seen your kind before.
“Hmm, it seems like they don’t seem to mind my presence. Have any other people been to this town before?” you asked.
“Such an intelligent man you are, your suspicions are true. Indeed, other humans from near and far have arrived before you,” Zecora replied placing a hand on your shoulder. “Most have experienced some lifelong trauma, so they rebelled to escape from all the drama.”
You took in this information with great interest, unfortunately, questions would have to wait. Reaching the town’s market area, Zecora gave you a list of ingredients and supplies she needed you to get. Thanks to the bits you’ve got on hand, purchasing them shouldn’t be too much hassle. Your only concern was whether Zecora was growing suspicious of how you had so much money.
Zecora finally guides you to the shop she was looking for. Since this last stop wouldn’t take too much time, she decided to take care of this herself and allowed you to go off on your own to explore the town like you originally planned. Taking the offer, you looked around Ponyville for any signs of humans, but so far you were unsuccessful.
“And here I thought every single place in this world was all corrupted, but this place gives off a whole other vibe. I’d best not cause any trouble with the locals. After all, I did promise myself I would start off with a fresh clean slate. Besides, it just wouldn’t feel right if I betrayed not only Zecora, but myself,” you said to yourself.
“Hey, do you always talk to yourself?” a male voice asked. You turned your attention next to you and noticed an actual male human being.
“Oh, hey there. Sorry, I usually talk to myself whenever I’m trying to weig-” but then at that moment, you stopped. Though it’s been 7 years since the plane crash, you were gifted with a long-term memory since you were child. Now that you looked at the man very closely, he looked very familiar. “Say, I remember you.”
“You do? That’s funny, I don’t think we’ve actually met back on earth. Were you one of my school classmates or something?” he asked.
“No, I remember seeing you before both of us kicked the bucket on that plane crash. You were sulking like someone stepped all over your work or supper. I sat beside you,” you explained. From that info, the guy flinched and took a step back. “Sorry, did I say something wrong?”
“B-But if you were with me during the plane crash, how c-come you I never s-saw you when you came t-to Equestria?” he asked while stuttering.
“I’m not sure what Equestria is, but I do remember waking up in some rundown town over in the southern part of this new world. I survived by-” At that moment, you decided you’ve said a little too much, as the man before you was more curious than ever and was expecting you to finish your explanation.
“I’m listening, you survived by doing what?” he asked raising an eyebrow.
“Uh... I don’t think now’s a good time to talk about it. I-I’m sorry to have troubled you, I’ll see you around... maybe,” you said frantically as you started to back away. You were indeed ashamed of yourself for looking so weak after all you’ve been through, but the less others know about you, the better. Taking off, you ignored the man’s desperate calls for you to stop as you ran away.

A Rewarding Rescue
You’ve long given up your goal of engineering. Your skills with vehicles were not only becoming rusty, but there weren’t any kind of cars or trucks of any sort in this land for you to practice working on. While there were indeed airships back in Klugetown, it was way too risky for even a thief with your skill to try and steal one. Anyone in the vicinity would notice an airship of immense size sailing out into the skies.
You’ve decided from the moment you saw Ponyville that there would be no more need to steal anything anymore. You’ve been living in Equestria for 3 days and already you were adjusting to a nice, peaceful life. Seeing Zecora as the one you trusted the most, you accepted her invitation to stay with her in her hut. In exchange, you were to come with her into town and help her sell her mixtures. Not at all a bad deal.
So far, Zecora is the only one who knew of what you did to survive in the Storm King’s territory. You honestly felt very guilty that you thought she would’ve thrown you out for coming clean, she did nothing of the sort. Once back at the hut, you got curious and asked Zecora about it.
“Zecora, I don’t get it. You knew what I had done over the past 7 years, but instead of throwing me out and didn’t want to see me again, you allowed me to stay here in your hut. No one’s ever shown me that kind of compassion before,” you said.
“While there were mistakes that you have made, I am kind enough to be your aid. Those eyes of yours when I stare, tell me a good heart is still present in there. 7 years of living in the badlands is pretty bold, but not enough to turn your heart completely cold,” the zebra mare replied.
“T-Thank you...” you said quietly. However you shook your head to rid yourself of your embarrassment before returning your attention to the task at hand. Today, Zecora once again needed to stock up on her supplies. You could only imagine what creative experimenters she’ll be coming up with after she gets what she needs.
“Danger is the last thing we want to bring, so please stay close to me and alert my sweet thing,” she warned with a smile. You quickly quirked an eyebrow the moment she referred to you as “her sweet thing.” You turned your head away blushing at the sudden term of endearment.
‘Am I going cuckoo-kachoo or did she just give me a pet name ?’ you thought to yourself. “Understood,” you said, heeding her advice while at the same time hiding your confusion.
Going to the list you were given before this little hunt began, three poison joke plants were necessary for the mixture. From what Zecora had told you, these cruel plants have different funny effects on anyone that touches them. She was very clear on telling you to avoid touching the flower’s blue petals and pick them by the stem instead.
Evidently even if she wanted to, Zecora couldn’t forget how to find the poison joke as they’ve caused a lot of trouble for a couple of friends of hers in the past. After just a short walk, you came across a small field of poison joke waiting for their next victim.
“Hey, Zecora, how many of the poison joke do you need for your potion?” you asked.
“Three is all we need to take, but remember not to make a mistake. Pick it by the stem like I said before, to avoid whatever joke they have in store,” Zecora reminded.
“Okay, got it,” you nodded. With that, you carefully put your hand underneath the petals, trying to avoid any sort of contact. You pulled the first poison joke out slowly so you wouldn’t touch any of its neighbors’ petals. Breathing a sigh of relief as you held the flower, you put it in a basket before moving to the next one.
Not once in your entire life in the lands beyond Equestria did you imagine yourself doing favors for others. Being shown gratitude was even more of a reason why you were glad to give up on your robbing spree. A life working with Zecora was a whole lot nicer than anything you experienced so far.
“It’s so nice to have you here to assist, now for the next thing on our list,” Zecora said taking ahold of the list. “Getting the rest of our material won’t be much a threat, I just hope you don’t mind getting a bit wet,” she said with a chuckle.
You raised an eyebrow, wondering what exactly your zebra friend here meant by that.
Zecora’s comment about getting wet made sense, as by the time you were getting the last thing on the list, the sky had begun to darken. Making sure the basket was nice and closed, you and Zecora both put the hoods of your cloaks on the avoid the imminent rain. It started off with a light drizzle, then slowly starts becoming a real downpour. While it is normally pegasi who control the weather, around the Everfree, weather happens on its own.
“Now you know what I mean of course. Come we must flee before the weather gets worse!” Zecora shouted.
Keeping a tight grip on the basket containing your ingredients, the two of you began to sprint back to the hut. Even though it couldn’t be helped, it was so unfortunate that you had to come such a long way in order to get what you needed.
At the rate the rain is coming down, there could be a slight chance of lightning with a hint of a little flood to boot. As she had explained earlier, the forest becomes a lot more dangerous during the night time. The evidence speaks for itself.
“How much farther until we’ve reached the hut?!” you asked.
“Please have patience we’re almost there, but we won’t make progress if we stop and stare!” Zecora said. You didn’t question her anymore and kept up with her, making your way back to the hut as quickly as you can. That is until you were forced to stop when a bolt of lightning struck from above and hit a tree that was much too close. It slowly started to lean in Zecora’s general direction, about to crush her.
“ZECORA, WATCH OUT!!!” you shouted before jumping in and grabbing her, pulling her out of the way before the tree had a chance to pin her underneath. You both laid on the cold, muddy ground, quite dirty, but very much alive.
You spat out some of the mud that had gotten into your mouth before looking over at Zecora who was out cold. The good news is you managed to save her life, bad news, the shock of almost being crushed had rendered her unconscious. Which meant you would have to carry her back to the hut in the dark.
Because of the good deal of muscle you’ve built during your training, carrying Zecora wasn’t much of a problem. You secured the unconscious zebra on your back by wrapping her arms around your neck, while your own arms supported her by the legs.
The lights coming from Zecora’s hut soon came into view. You sighed in relief and walked to the hut a little faster. Letting go of one of her legs, you reached to open the door and stepped inside. Zecora would probably scold you later for forgetting to wipe your feet, but that wasn’t important right now.
With your good friend still out like a light, you took the initiative to set her down on her bed. Once again, the thought of being reprimanded by Zecora came to mind as she was still muddy when you put her on the bed. Though if she does complain, you’d simply cut her off by reminding her you saved her life.
Taking the responsibility of taking care of you both, you made it warmer inside the hut by starting a fire below Zecora’s empty cauldron. Rubbing your hands a few times as you kneeled beside the fire, you then stood up and went over to her shelf to set down the basket containing your ingredients. By some miracle, the basket remained shut despite all that running.
Around the hut, when it came to cleaning up, you and Zecora would take turns bathing in one of her larger cauldrons. However you weren’t going to risk her waking up and finding you naked, so you settled with simply wetting a towel and wiping as much mud off as you could. Once you were more or less clean, you made your way over to Zecora to clean her in the same way.
Slowly and gently you brought the warm, wet towel up to her face and started to wipe off the mud from her face. Washing out the towel every few scrubs, you would repeat the process and noticed how her fur was returning to its original grey colors. You decided to just focus on her face for now, as touching anywhere below would probably make her lose all respect for you.
Now that you got a good look at your companion, you had to say Zecora was very beautiful. Seeing how her face was all clean again, you couldn’t explain the sudden urge to want to lean in a little closer. Your lips were just a few inches away from connecting before you stopped and got some sense knocked into you.
You quickly pulled yourself away from her just let her rest a little while longer. ‘What the hell am I even thinking? I’m not the kind of guy who takes advantage of others like that !’ you mentally scolded yourself. You made the right choice to as you heard Zecora begin to stir from her sleep. No doubt if you went through with the kiss, she would have woken up and caught you.
“Obviously we made it back to my hut... but what exactly happened after my eyes fell shut?” Zecora asked.
“You almost got crushed by a tree when it got hit by a bolt of lightning. I jumped in and got you out of the way, but you ended up falling unconscious. I guess you were so shocked about being crushed that you fainted. Naturally, I had no choice but to carry you the rest of the way here and even cleaned some of the mud off of you with a towel for good measure,” you explained.
“I see then, well I must thank you. It’s only with your persistence that we made it through,” Zecora said giving you a warm smile. “Not that I’m ungrateful in anyway, but are all of our ingredients still okay?” she asked. You responded by pointing to the basket, which you set on the shelf.
“We got lucky, not a single thing fell out,” you assured her, causing her happy expression to stay the same.
To accelerate the process of warming up, Zecora decided to take advantage of the fire that you started to cook up the soup you loved so much. While she was cooking, a memory from a few days ago popped into your head. The look of that man you saw in town when you told him about the plane crash still haunts you. Thinking back on it, you felt like a real jerk for leaving him in the dark and just running off.
“Hey, Zecora, do you think tomorrow we can head back to Ponyville?” you asked.
“For what reason could it be, that you wish to visit Ponyville so suddenly?” Zecora asked.
“I... said some things to someone that I’m not really proud of. I wasn’t trying to insult him them or anything, but I think I might have spooked them when I said that I saw them before. I stopped explaining things to them and just ran off without another word, not looking back. I owe this guy an explanation, so what do you say?” you asked.
“You don’t need permission from me, to make things the way that they should be. If one wants to make things right, they should take the chance when it comes within sight,” Zecora said.
“Alright, thanks, Zecora,” you said.
“Tomorrow we shall have a talk with the group, but for now, have a seat and enjoy some soup,” she said, giving you a bowl with the delicious liquid. From the moment the smell of her homemade soup hit your nostrils, you were in heaven.
You scooped up a spoonful of the soup and blew on it a few times before slurping it. Zecora’s cooking was the absolute best. You could feel your entire body warming up as you helped yourself to the soup. You of course weren’t the only one eating, as Zecora fixed her own bowl and looked at her work with satisfaction.
Once you were both done eating, you replaced the muddy sheets on Zecora’s bed with some fresh ones. The zebra was indeed frustrated that you got mud into her house, but just as you planned, she stopped complaining when you reminded her that she’s only alive because of you. You were relieved that the argument ended before it could get bad, as you were fond of Zecora and couldn’t bare the thought of fighting with her.
Once clean sheets were on the bed, you could feel yourself getting tired and finally decided to call it a night and climbed into the bed. Zecora had the same idea and joined your side before you placed the covers over you both. It wasn’t long before you both were sound asleep.
Sticking to the plan, Zecora accompanied to help you find the man you reunited with during your first visit to Ponyville. Fortunately, even though you didn’t have the luck of learning the man’s name, Zecora appeared to know him too well. All all you had to do was describe his appearance and she was able to lead you to where he lived.
The establishment looked very shiny and presentable on the outside. It was almost like a miniature mansion from where you were standing. You can also see a few dresses being put on display through the mirrors. In your honest opinion, it seemed a little strange for a man to be living in a place that looked like it had a woman’s touch to it, but you kept that to yourself. The place probably belonged to one of his friends or so. At least, that’s the only logical conclusion you could come up with.
“Well, time to face the music,” you said with a sigh. You walked up and knocked on the door a few times. You waited a few seconds and then heard a female voice call out from the other side. Needless to say, this is the exact opposite of what you expected.
“Just a minute, I’ll be right there,” she called out. When the door opened, you were greeted by a pure white unicorn mare with a beautiful curly purple mane and sparkling sapphire eyes. “Oh, Zecora, so nice to see you. And who is this man?”
You answered the question for Zecora, after all, coming here was your idea. “I’m actually here to speak with the man who lives here. I wanted to clear things up with him. Is he around?” you asked, looking around.
“Oh, you mean my husband, Silver? Yes, I believe he’s drawing some designs for some ensembles I need to have delivered. Please hold on one second,” she replied before going back inside and then called out to someone. “Crystal, darling, would you mind getting your father out here, please?”
“Okay, mommy,” a little voice responded.
“She’s married to a human?” you asked Zecora quietly, surprised.
“Not just her, but so are her friends. But you can ask her after tying up loose ends,” Zecora whispered back.
The one called Crystal did what she was told quite quickly, as the man you now know as Silver, walked next to the doorway.
“Okay, I’m here, Rarity honey. So who is it that wants to-” he stops from the moment his eyes lock dead center on you. Things became so much more awkward as Silver was left speechless.
“Silver, honey, what’s the matter?” Rarity asked.
“Daddy, is something wrong?” Crystal asked, tugging on the hem of her dad’s shirt. Silver snapped out of his little trance and regained his focus.
“Y-Yeah, daddy’s fine now. Listen, Crystal, daddy’s gonna step out and have a talk with this man for a little while, okay? This won’t take too long, I promise,” he said, kneeling down and petting his daughter’s head.
“Okay, then,” Crystal replied leaning in to hug her father before going back inside with Rarity. The moment they were out of sight, Silver turned back to you.
“I was wondering when we’d see each other again...” he replied softly.
“You’re not mad at me?” you asked.
“I don’t see any point in holding a grudge. After all, it doesn’t help much if there’s unnecessary conflict between two people who don’t even know each other,” Silver shrugged.
“Well, I guess that makes sense,” you agreed.
“So, I take it you wanted to talk to me about the plane crash?” he asked.
“You hit it dead center. But first, I wanted to apologize for running off on you like that. Mentioning how I survived out there was something that just slipped out and wanted to avoid talking about. However, that needs to change...”
You thoroughly explained to Silver of how you woke up in the corrupt wastelands ruled by the Storm King. He remained silent the entire time, even as you mentioned you kept yourself alive by stealing from the impoverished residents, mainly slave traders.
By that time, you were living in this run-down place called Klugetown, where a lot of the creatures there weren’t exactly that bright when you stole from them. They didn’t even notice they were robbed and it disgusted you knowing they were easy pickins. Silver did smile for a moment when you mentioned you beat up Verko, who almost captured and enslaved Rarity and her friends.
You finally concluded your explanation saying you gained interest in ditching Klugetown and coming to this kingdom the moment you learned about how the Storm King was defeated a couple of years ago. On the journey, you wound up almost dying of thirst in the desert and then almost died of hunger when you snuck on the back of a train that was approaching here.
“I’m quite embarrassed that I actually ran away from you despite having experienced much scarier things. Again, I apologize for such behavior,” you finished.
“I appreciate both your apology and your explanation. Though I must say it’s quite a surprise to learn one of this world’s first humans was living outside Equestria and we didn’t even know,” Silver said. “We may still barely know each other but I have a feeling we’ll become close friends soon enough.”
“I look forward to it. Glad we could clear things up,” you said.,” you said and watched as Silver extended his hand for you to shake. Smiling, you accepted his handshake before allowing him to go back inside and continue with his work.
“I don’t see much reason to stay, shall we be on our way?” Zecora asked.
“Yeah, I think it’s time it head on back to the hut. Maybe one of these days we can meet Silver’s other friends,” you said before realizing something. “Now that I think about it, I didn’t even know it was possible for humans and ponies to cross-breed. This world is full of surprises.”
“Yes surprises will indeed be brought forward, an example is your upcoming reward. I never properly thanked you for saving me... so please enjoy what your reward is going to be...” Without much warning, Zecora leaned up and pressed her lips against your cheek. The kiss affected you as quickly as one of her potions, as you could feel your face heating up and your eyes widen with shock.
Zecora kept those soft lips of hers locked against your cheek for at least 20 seconds before she pulled away. Chuckling at your reaction, she can tell that you definitely enjoyed your reward. All you could do was place a hand on your cheek while putting on a goofy smile and blab out two simple words.

2 weeks have gone by and Zecora has clearly learned her lesson as she was no longer leading the two of you out for ingredients unless positive weather was guaranteed. This just shows how mistakes are to learn from. However even now, you still couldn’t wrap your head around the way the zebra has been acting ever since she kissed you.
Of course she didn’t admit it, but Zecora has been showing plenty of signs that told you she had a crush on you. For example, anytime you two went out scouting for ingredients for her special brew, she’d always walk extremely close to you, pressing her body onto yours. Another sign was that you noticed her cheeks would turn red when you complimented her amazing work.
Now you’d be lying if you said you didn’t find the shaman to be beautiful. Though you never thought of anyone in a romantic sense before in your life. Even in high school, you had preferred to keep to yourself rather than ask anyone out on a date. Furthermore, you thought most of the girls were too shallow and immature for your taste. However Zecora wasn’t some teenager, but rather a full grown, wise zebra.
“You seem to be quite deep in thought, are you thinking of a memory you long forgot?” Zecora’s caring voice brought you back to your senses.
“You could say that,” you responded before finding yourself disarmed by her charms. Whether she realized it or not, Zecora was once again giving you that look filled with adoration. You backed against the wall as she approached you. A hint of blush formed on your face. She leans herself onto you and is about to lock her lips with yours. You were so surprised that she did what you did during the rainstorm and backed off when her lips were just inches away from yours.
“I-I apologize for my lack of pride... please excuse me, for I need to step outside...” You grabbed her arm before she could leave and then held her by her shoulders with a far more gentle grip.
“Zecora how do you feel about me?” you asked, using a calm tone to let her know you weren’t upset with her. You expected her to start blushing, but instead, the question made Zecora smile.
“Though you’ve lived seven long years life of sin, I can see your true, kind nature from within. Your heart may have first been stone cold, but deep down, there is a heart of pure gold. That’s the kind of man I have been dreaming of, the kind of man in you that I now love,” Zecora explained before her smile disappeared. “Though I’m aware that it’s not my choice to make, after all this must be a lot for you to take. I’m sure plenty of other mares will come to you if you wait, are you satisfied with having me as your mate?”
Indeed Zecora’s confession was a lot to think about, so you might as well start. The zebra before you was the first one you’ve ever thought of as your friend. But in the past 2 weeks you’ve lived with her, you’ve grown a certain fondness for the lovely shaman. The evidence lies in that time after you rescued her from certain death where you found the sleeping beauty quite attractive and almost jumped at the chance to kiss her. You’d be a hypocrite to stay freaked out that she tried to do the same.
“Honestly... I thought I was going to have to live a sad life out on my own. The moment you showed up in my life, a huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders. You gave me a sense of hope and a chance to turn my life around. I highly doubt any other mare will provide me the same sense of security so... I say you’re the only mare who’s won a spot in my heart,” you confessed, bringing her in for a nice, warm hug.
You could tell a sudden jolt of happiness coursed through Zecora’s mind the moment you wrapped her in your big strong arms. It wasn’t long before tears began to fall down her cheeks. Though they were actually tears of joy and for a good reason. Zecora hasn’t had a chance to find anypony to call her own in these past years and for you to return her affections like that was like being struck by a bolt of lightning. Quite ironic.
“Now that we’ve gotten close like this... would you like a different kind of kiss?” she asked.
Words didn’t need to be said as you reached under to cup her chin. You and Zecora stare at each other and lean in close, finally locking your lips together for the first time. Just like that time she kissed your cheek, you were taken away by how soft and warm her lips felt. It was like you were giving her your vow to be by her side. You couldn’t deny it: you loved Zecora.

Indeed to what Silver said, the fact that one of Equestria’s first humans was living beyond their borders for so long caused some surprise. Of course Ponyville was full of good-natured residents and not once were you discriminated because of your checkered past. As such, over the last 3 months, you also started to form new relationships, gaining new friends for the first time in years.
However, you and Zecora have begun to see each other as more than just friends. The zebra shaman told you how she was falling in love with you after you questioned her flirtatious behavior. Though shocked at first, you ended up returning her feelings and shared your first kiss with her. Afterwards, you and Zecora went on a few dates whenever she was feeling too exhausted to work.
Even after your time here in Ponyville, you still haven’t regained your interest in engineering. Rather, you developed your skills in learning how to brew potions and remedies. Most of the potions that you made were just cures for certain illnesses or injuries. In a way, it’s like you were becoming a doctor. On rare occasions, Zecora would allow you to help her come up with silly potions like disappearing in a smokescreen every time someone sneezes.
Having become a couple, you got the chance to learn more about Zecora personally. For one, she is an individual who enjoyed talking about the past and you were often treated to interesting, and sometimes humorous stories. Such included the day she first came to Ponyville and the ponies mistook her for an evil enchantress. Amongst those ponies, was the mare who now the princess of friendship, Twilight Sparkle and her friends. Each of them mistook being infected by poison joke as a curse and suffered consequences so ridiculous, they were actually kind of funny. In your opinion, the funniest effects were Flutterguy, Appletini, and Hairity.
In the end, Zecora was accepted by the townsfolk after she cured the mares of the poison joke. It’s here that she started making her deliveries to Ponyville, selling herbal medicines and remedies to the ponies who needed them most. This led to some more tales, such as when Applejack’s sister got the cutie pox from a potion gone haywire, or how Rarity became bald after mistaking remover potion for shampoo.
Even after being welcomed to Ponyville, Zecora prefered to live by herself in her hut, that was until you came along of course. Having you living with her was the best thing that’s ever happened to her. She now has an extra helping hand around her hut and somebody she loves and cherishes deeply. She even adjusted to how her friends gave nicknames to their human husbands and soon started calling you Shujaa, the Swahili word for hero and warrior. It made sense, since you did risk your life to save her.
Neither of you made plans to go into Ponyville right now, rather you decided to just take it easy and relax this morning. Seeing that a bath would help, you wasted no time in heating up the water in the cauldron. Once it was the perfect temperature, you weakened the fire before removing all of your clothes and climbing inside. You felt any stress that you had wash away as you sat and relaxed in the cauldron. You were so relaxed you failed to hear the sound of more clothes dropping to the floor.
You finally snapped out of your little trance when something incredibly soft is pressed against your face. You immediately opened your eyes and gazed at the sexy shaman zebra mare smiling at you from above. She was completely nude, save for her earrings and had changed her mohawk so it was now hanging freely past her shoulders. This was definitely something new, as you couldn’t recall seeing Zecora without her mohawk.

Despite the warm bath, you shivered at that feeling of those soft hands dancing on your skin. You would have to remember to ask Zecora how she keeps those hands so soft.

Ever since you became a couple, she was okay with you making these kinds of comments. Zecora stepped inside and sat down next to you, sighing in relief. You made a move to wrap your arm around her, pulling her closer. Blushing slightly at the affection, Zecora sank further below the water so she could lie on your muscular chest. “Do you want me to wash you?” you asked. Chuckling mischievously, Zecora pressed her back against your chest, giving you the opportunity to wash her front. Reminded of the rain incident, you started by rubbing your sudsy hands against her cheeks and worked your way down to her soft, furry body. You made sure to put a good effort into washing Zecora’s gorgeous, slender figure and went back up to her mane. However, you didn’t make the risk of touching her breasts.

You also wore some of the clothing Zecora made for you, which had a tribal theme similar to her own. For instance, some of the tunics you had exposed either the middle part of your chest or one side of your chest, including one of your pecs.
“So what do you want to do now?” you asked Zecora, who was styling her mane back into her usual mohawk. You did feel disappointed that such a sexy hairstyle had to go, but it was fun while it lasted. Either way, she was still beautiful.
“It was enjoyable putting it on hold, but we have some things that need to be sold,” she replied as she went and grabbed her favorite cloak. With a nod, you helped her prepare by grabbing the tonics that were finally finished from last night.

“Yup, Zecora’s my lady. Honestly, I’ve never been happier since I had it pretty rough out there,” you said with a sigh. You looked at Zecora who was working with another employee and her beauty made it a lot more easy to push the troubling memories aside.
“I can tell that you’re making her happy. Make sure to let her know as much as you can that she’s very lucky to have someone like you,” she said with a wink. You nodded and noticed that the very zebra you were talking about was smiling back at you. It was clear Zecora knew you were talking about her.
“Oh yeah, she’s a real amazing zebra. I just can’t even stop looking at her,” you said without even thinking. Your face became flushed with embarrassment and the mare beside you let out a small giggle. Fortunately, it didn’t seem Zecora heard you, even though she had started making her way towards you.
“It seems our work is done here, I’m sure my bath formula will bring the customers cheer,” she said, earning a warm hug from the employee in response. While hugging the mare, Zecora looked at you with playful curiosity.
Having finished your business at the spa, Zecora clung to your arm as you made your way back to the Everfree Forest. You unknowingly told her a lot even without talking to her, for example, your blush hadn’t quite gone away yet. Feeling those large breasts press against your arm did nothing to help.
