Tummy Tussle
Cravings (Appetizer)
Previous ChapterNext ChapterTo say things were tense around Sugar Cube Corner for the next few days would be an understatement. Pinkie Pie’s antics, and to an extent her foals, had put Cup Cake into a bad mood. She would normally be tolerant of Pinkie’s actions but the fact that she caused her insides to be abused was something she considered too far.
Somehow, just by shoving a small boxing ring underneath them, both sets of unborn twins managed to turn their wombs into a battlefield. Either by using their bare hooves, the womb walls surrounding them, or their own umbilical cords as a weapon, those foals had almost caused serious harm to each other.
As a result, or rather a consequence, Cup Cake had woke up the next morning incredibly sore and even more exhausted. She considered herself and Pinkie lucky it was Sunday because they normally closed on Sundays. Taking that to her advantage as soon as the pink menace woke up, Cup Cake dragged the both of them straight to Ponyville Hospital.
Despite their unscheduled appearance the doctors were more than happy to give them a quick checkup. Aside from some bruising and expanded stretch marks, all was well for both foals and mothers. Once they returned home Pinkie Pie and Cup Cake kept themselves busy by entertaining Pound and Pumpkin, cleaning, reading a book or two, all the while in utter silence.
For all of next week, things went on as smoothly as a rocky road.
Hard work, restless foals on top of the already-born foals, maintaining good service, and all without Carrot Cake and Cheese Sandwich’s assistance. By Friday, Cup Cake was within inches of her breaking point. The stress was really starting to get to her and the fact that she’s knew stress was bad for her foals only made it worse.
When her and her inferior’s husbands returned, she was going to give them a tongue lashing they’ll never forget.
Mercifully, Saturday saw slow business for Sugar Cube Corner so they decided to close early. By the time they were done cleaning Pinkie Pie decided it was best to give her boss some space and time to cool off. Under the excuse she was going to visit her family Pinkie Pie left Cup Cake alone with the children. In actuality, Pinkie Pie went to visit Twilight to ask if there was a proper way to say she’s was sorry.

After Aunt Pinkie Pie left Pumpkin Cake was left alone with her brother and her mother. When she and her brother woke up that morning she felt as though she should stay quiet. Pumpkin often got this feeling when she and her brother witnessed Mommy and Daddy arguing about something. But Daddy was away with Uncle Cheesy to deliver food to a faraway place, so why did she get that feeling?
That is, until she noticed the way Mommy was acting around Aunt Pinkie later in the day. Did something happen between them? Did they get into an argument? What was the arguing about? All these questions and more circled in Pumpkin’s head all day. From the way Pound Cake was staying quiet as well, Pumpkin figured he felt the same thing.
They were currently in the living room, the same room Pumpkin remembered when she realized her and Pound’s new brother and sister were, “hiding and growing in Mommy’s tummy until they were ready to come out,” as Aunt Pinkie Pie had told them. Pumpkin Cake and Pound Cake continued to quietly play in their playpen while Mommy watched them from the couch.
As the minutes rolled by Pumpkin noticed Mommy trying to keep her eyes open. She still looked unhappy about what argument she had with Aunt Pinkie Pie, and Mommy also looked very tired from working the last few days. Pumpkin was about to call to her Mommy when she decided not to. Mommy was tired and she’s deserved her rest.
As if agreeing with her claim Mommy pulled her hind legs up and turned so she could lay down on the couch, her tummy standing up like a small mountain. After placing a pillow under her head Mommy closed her eyes and started to snore quietly. Pumpkin Cake turned around and faced her brother.
“Bwada, we need to do someden.”
Pound Cake was confused. “Someden abow wha?”
“Mommy and Awnt Pinkie. Dey’re mad abow someden and itsh making Mommy sad. We need to find way th cheew Mommy up.”
“But... how?”
Pumpkin Cake looked back towards Mommy. She had placed her right hoof on her tummy in her sleep. Pumpkin watched her Mommy’s mountain of a tummy and saw a small kick near her bellybutton. Mommy shifted in her sleep, mumbling, “Can’t wait until they’re finally out of me...”
Pumpkin Cake spun back around. “Dat’s it!”
“Wha? Wha’s it,” asked Pound?
“It’sh da babehs! Dey’re gwowing too big fow Mommy, and Mommy isth tiwed of cawwying dem in hew tummy. We jusht have to make da babehs come out!”
“How we do dat,” asked Pound?
“We go and ashk dem,” Pumpkin replied proudly.
Pound thought it was a funny idea and didn’t know if it would work, but if it’s was to help their Mommy feel better he was willing to do anything. He nodded and followed Pumpkin to the edge of the playpen closest to the couch.
Pumpkin was about to try and climb out of the playpen when Pound spread his teeny tiny wings and lifted himself off the floor and grabbed Pumking by her forelegs. After hovering over the top of the playpen wall, Pound Cake decided to save his sister the time to walk and flew all the way to the couch. He placed his sister next to their Mommy's back legs and then landed next to her to give his wings a rest.
Then a thought occurred to Pound Cake. “Uh, Sistew? Why did not you jus’ use mawgic to cawwy da bowf of ush?”
Pumpkin Cake didn’t know the official title yet, but she majestically performed her first face hoof.
Once she got over her embarrassment Pumpkin Cake turned her attention to the big blue mountain in front of her. All she had to do was ask her new little brother and sister to come out of their Mommy’s tummy so that Mommy could get some weight off her hooves and receive a much-needed rest.
Pumpkin Cake walked up to her Mommy’s tummy and said, “Hewwo?” No response. She said “Hewwo?” again slightly louder. No response again. Pumpkin was starting to grow impatient. She lifted a hoof and knocked on her Mommy’s tummy as if it were a door. “Hewwo? Any pony in dere?” Yet again no response.
Cup Cake mumbled and shifted a bit and for a moment the twins feared they woke her up. To their relief, she didn’t and they saw her hoof slowly slide down the side of her tummy back down on the couch cushion.
Pumpkin Cake thought hard. Why weren’t the foals answering her? Were they asleep? No, they couldn’t be; she saw one of them kick earlier, close to her bellybutton at the top.
At the top...
Pumpkin Cake stood back a little and looked up to get a better view of her Mommy’s tummy. She stared at the popped-out bellybutton at the top and spotted small kick pass nearby it like before. Then Pumpkin knew what the problem was. The foals weren’t answering her because they were more near the top of Mommy’s tummy! She just needed to climb to the top of Mommy’s tummy so they could hear her.
Pumpkin Cake lowered her head and began to concentrate. Small blue sparks flew from her horn until it, and her whole body, were covered in a soft blue field of magic. Pumpkin cake smiled at her progress but it wasn’t over yet. She concentrated harder and soon she began to slowly lift up in the air. She kept her focus and eventually brought herself over the top of Mommy’s tummy. When she was hovering just above her Mommy’s bellybutton Pumpkin Cake carefully lowered herself down and sat down in front of it.
After successfully scaling Mt. Mommy Pumpkin Cake looked down to see Pound Cake watch ing her from below. She waved at him and he happily waved back. Pumpkin then turned her attention directly below her and tapped it to see what would happen. She felt something kick back and smiled, knowing her theory of the foals being closer to the top of Mommy’s tummy was correct.
Pumpkin tucked her small legs under her and then placed the side of her face against the surface of the womb. “Hewwo? New bwada an’ sistew? Can you pwease come out of Mommy’s tummy so she can feew bettew and den she an’ Awnt Pinkie can be fwiends again?”
The only answer Pumpkin Cake got back was more kicking and other movements from the belly beneath her. This confused Pumpkin greatly. She made it closer to the foals in order for them to hear her so why are they still not answering her? She still felt small but noticeable movement under her so they couldn’t be sleeping. Maybe they went back down closer to Pound?
Before she could ask Pound Cake to try and talk to the foals Pumpkin Cake felt another shift of movement below her, only this one felt closer. She pulled her head up and looked to see a small, hoof-shaped bump stroking past her hind leg. Pumpkin kept her eye on it and after moving around the area next to Pumpkin for a bit it came to rest in front of her.
Pumpkin continued to stare at the outstretched skin and wondered what she should do. She raised her hoof and reached out to touch her unborn siblings’ hoof but it sank down, returning the belly to a smooth, round curve.
Pumpkin sat up onto her haunches and began to think again. When the foals didn’t talk back to her down on the couch cushion she flew up to the top of Mommy’s tummy, thinking they couldn’t hear her. When she was closer she talked to the foals again, but they still didn’t answer her.
The only way the foals seemed to respond to ponies was by kicking the inside of Mommy’s tummy. That meant the foals really did respond to Pumpkin Cake’s questions, just not by talking. Maybe that was how they talked: simply by moving their hooves around No, that couldn’t be it. If that were possible, shouldn’t either Pumpkin or Pound be able to do that? It would make sense since Pumpkin, Pound, and now the new foals would all be sharing the same Mommy. What was she missing?
Pumpkin refused to let this slow her down; she was going to make her new siblings exit their Mommy’s tummy and nothing would stop her. Also, she had waited long enough to see her new baby brother and sister and tonight might be the only chance she had. But the question still stood: ”How?”
Pumpkin let out a tiny growl in frustration and glared adorable daggers down at her Mommy’s tummy, which had become more of a wall separating her and Pounds’ new siblings.
Pumpkin was about to give it up and vent her anger when she somehing nudge her rump. She spun around and saw another hoof-shaped bump, like the one before, in the area where she had been sitting. Pumpkin saw another opportunity to touch her siblings’ hoof and quickly reached for it.
Sadly, she still wasn’t fast enough. The hoof moved downwards out of Pumpkin Cake’s reach, much to her annoyance, and sank down quickly afterwards. Pumpkin narrowed her eyes and was about to pounce for it when she realized that doing so would more than likely wake up Mommy. Instead, she’s sat back down and took a deep breath to calm down.
Maybe she should try again, just to be sure. Pumpkin Cake took another deep breath and looked down on the blue fur-covered surface she was sitting on. “Come on babehs. It you don’t come out of Mommy’s tummy den you wiww make hew misewable. Can you ewen heaw me? Say someden!”
Pumpkin Cake noticed her hoof was being pushed up, taking her by surprise. She stood there, stunned, as she finally touched hooves with one of her new siblings for the first time. The bump then slid out from under her hoof and moved in the same direction as the second bump she saw had done before. Pumpkin kept her eyes on the bump, and when it disappeared down the tummy’s curve Pumpkin found herself looking at her Mommy’s open mouth.
Pumpkin Cake was now more confused than ever before. Were the foals trying to tell her something? If so, did it involve Mommy? That wasn’t helping. She needed to see if she could get to the foals and get them out. As far as she could tell, asking wasn’t working. Maybe she could make them leave. That would mean she had to go into Mommy’s tummy to do so.
Wait a minute. If she went into her Mommy’s tummy, that meant she could actually see the foals, getting close enough so they could finally hear her question, and finally saying yes to said question, thus getting them out!
It all made sense now. The foals were trying to tell Pumpkin Cake something: they couldn’t hear her because Mommy’s tummy made it hard to hear anything outside it. She just needed to get even closer by traveling into Mommy and finding her tummy, therefore finding her siblings. Now Pumpkin had a way to get them out and felt a bit sorry for herself for thinking of forcing them out. If asking nicely didn’t work.
Pumpkin questioned why she didn’t figure that out sooner. It didn’t matter anymore; she had her solution and she was going to follow through with it.
Pumpkin wondered if she should tell Pound about it and offer him to come along with her.
Suddenly, Pumpkin Cake felt herself being grabbed and picked up. Despite her panic Pumpkin resisted the urge to scream. Whatever grabbed her turned her around and Pumpkin could see it was a pair of hooves that got her. A pair of hooves with a familiar blue color.
Pumpkin Cake gave up hope. She had been caught and now Mommy wouldn’t get the relief she needed. Pumpkin was about to cry over her failure when she noticed something.
Why were Mommy’s eyes still closed and licking her lips?
Author's Note
I feel the need to explain how I’m writing the Cake Twins.
I know I’m writing them to have a similar thought process which makes one come to a silent realization and conclusion around the same time as the other. That would suggest they are identical twins, which we all know isn’t true. If some of you disagree with how they’re acting remember, they are still babies and not much of their personalities are shown. At least, not enough is known about how they act and think to know what personality they have.
