Spike's Diary

Dear Diary,

You know, every once in a while, your friends will say something to you that just gets you thinking in a way that you weren't expecting. For me, it was something Pinkie said after coming back from her visit to Cheese Sandwich. Oh, remember him? He was her rival party pony that one time. Anyway, she went into this big philosophical dealy about what her purpose in life is, since all of our friends all have one now, like Twilight becoming ruler or Rarity's boutiques and stuff. Now, don't worry, Pinkie eventually managed to figure out what hers is, and surprise surprise, it's just to keep everypony happy. I imagine any of her friends could have told her that, but still, I'm glad she's satisfied with it.

But anyway, what got me thinking about it is that, well, I'm not really sure what my purpose is. I know I'm Twilight's assistant, as well as Rarity's on occasion, and I love doing all that. But is that it? Is being a little kid assistant really all I am? I may love having that job, and I can't imagine my life without the ponies I help, but I can't help but wonder if maybe I should do what Pinkie did, and just go out to see if there's some other role I'm meant to have in life.

I might not go out and find it today, but it's worth thinking about.
