Chapter 08 - Gems and Mutts
It had been a little over a week since Destroyah had severely drunken itself with Luna and it felt much better now, especially when it was with her. Luna often visited the kaiju but it didn't mind, they seemed to, surprisingly, enjoy each other's company. At the moment, they where resting in the shade of a large tree in the fields, pressed against one another. They weren't huddled together because it was cold or they needed the warmth but simply because they could. Rarity and AppleJack stood in the distance looking on.
"Oh isn't that just romantic AppleJack!"
"Ah really wouldn't know abo't it Rarity."
"Oh come now AppleJack! .... Say I wonder, is he part dragon?"
"Ah don't know. Why?"
"Because if I could get him to help me in my gem hunts it would take less time to find gems! Oh Spiky tries his best but he is simply too small to defend against those ruffians the Diamond Dogs."
"So ya want an extra snout an muscle? Makes sense ta me!"
"I'm so glad I have your approval AppleJack." Said farm pony failed to notice the sarcasm dripping from her voice. "I will go invite him."
"But aren't ya scared of him?"
"Oh AppleJack! It is unladylike to be afraid of one's friend!" Rarity leaned in and whispered into her ear. "I am a bit."
With that Rarity trotted over to the sleeping forms of the Princess and the kaiju. As Rarity trotted up she was careful not to step on their wings nor tails which draped on the floor. Destroyah's demonic tail spasmed and slightly lashed out at the approaching pony, putting her even more on-edge. Rarity avoided Destroyah's deadly tail and poked the kaiju in the side. Though its skin was tough, the millions of micro-organisms that make up its form were very sensitive and easily picked up the small tape. Destroyah cracked open its gleaming golden eyes, staring full-on at Rarity with a slightly annoyed facial expression. The creature's lack of interest unnerved the white mare a tad bit.
"Why do you disturbed our slumber?"
"Err... well now, I was wondering if you would like to accompany Spike and myself on one of our gem hunts?" She asked with a slightly fearful tone in her voice.
Destroyah slid its head over to the side, raising it off of Luna's form. It looked at Luna who was now awakened by the kaiju's sudden movement. She smiled at him. "Go on. It will be fun. With you the fun will be tripled!"
Destroyah reluctantly lifted itself up with a sigh, shuffling over to Rarity's side.
"Where to?"
"Oh follow me!"
Rarity scampered off and Destroyah trudged after her with disappointed and begrudged emotions boiling up inside. It could have slept the day away with another warm body next to it but no, it had to follow a fashion freak and a bite-sized dragon around. Wait?! Was it really thinking about Luna in that way rather than just another meal?
"What is happening to us? This corrupt world of joy and happiness had made us soft! No, this is just an illusion, we are still the slayer of all life, nothing has changed! Yes, nothing has changed..." The kaiju tried to reassure itself with that thought, disregarding the previous one for the moment.
Destroyah followed the white mare to a dusty plane. The dragon Spike had long since tagged along. Just watching that pathetic ball of scales made Destroyah sick. The worthless maggot was hopelessly in love and he looked surprisingly similar to its 'dead' enemy's son. Remembering the kaiju king made Destroyah shudder for but a moment. So much raw power unleashed on it all at once, there was nothing it could do against the overlord.
'What do we have to worry about? That beast was slain back at home. When we return, nothing will stand in our way! Yes, nothing!'
Destroyah was so caught up in thought that it didn't notice the large hole in the ground before it. The kaiju tripped over it, crashing on the floor beneath. Once the kaiju hit the dirt, Rarity took notice of the hole too.
"Caution boys, we are in Diamond Dog territory."
Destroyah didn't know what a Diamond Dog was but the tone in Rarity's voice suggested it was bad for her which meant a meal for it. Things just got a whole lot more interesting! Maybe leaving Luna was a good idea after all! Out of the hole behind the kaiju, a large paw grabbed skywards and caught Rarity leg. The dog rose from the soil and quickly slapped an iron muzzle on Rarity before taking her with him down the chute. Spike ran over to the entrance of the hole. "Rarity! Oh no, not again!"
Destroyah grabbed the little dragon in its tail pincer and lifted him up onto its back.
"Looks like we have work to do!" The kaiju said in a pleased tone.
Destroyah spread its wings and descended down the hole, glided down into the dank and dark space, landed with a squishy thud on the soggy soil. Destroyah raised its head and looked around the dimly lit space. A vast array of tunnels greeted it. Destroyah lowered its head and closed its eyes. Every faint sound became sharper and more clear: the soft drip of water on the cave floor, the slightly gentle sound of rocks clacking together... the pawing of dirt. Destroyah's head snapped to one tunnel and it opened its eyes.
"This way."
The kaiju bolted down the corridor, losing visibility as they descended further into the Earth. Torches began to line the walls and metal doors soon joined. It was obviously a dungeon of a sort. The kaiju tore down the large doors, slashing through the metal with its massive claws. It took little effort to take them down. On the other side stood three dogs and Rarity, clearly in sight and at the perfect striking range. Destroyah sped up and slammed into the tall lanky one. In one fluid motion it wrapped its tail around the smaller one and tossed him into the largest dog, sending them both tumbling through the dirt. Destroyah sliced down laser horn, severing Rarity's muzzle in one clean cut. Destroyah removed Spike from its back and deposited him onto the white mare.
"Run, NOW!"
"What about you?"
"It doesn't matter. We will be fine. Now go!"
After a moment Rarity nodded and bolted down the corridor. One of the Diamond Dogs rose.
"Ugh my head! Guards!"
In a matter of seconds the hall was filled end-to-end with Diamond Dogs.
"Get him!"
The dogs surged forward to attack. They came up in a massive wave against the kaiju, scratching and clawing at Destroyah who struck back. Destroyah's claws tore into flesh and bone, spurting warm blood everywhere. The dogs, however, made little progress, even with their spears. The kaiju smirked, realizing its natural armor coating had returned to full strength. Dog-after-dog fell to the demon but they just kept coming. Destroyah flinched in pain as one of the dogs landed on its right wings, nearly snapping the still frail bone in half. Destroyah loosed its micro-oxygen spray, liquefying any nearby dog unlucky enough to get in its path and sending the rest jumping back as a wall of fire separated the two sides. On one side stood the towering kaiju, alone and single-handedly slaughtering and on the other, several dozen, if not more, Diamond Dogs prepared to give their lives to protect their tunnels. Destroyah roared to the sky, knowing victory was at hand.
"Come on you fools, come get some!" Dogs leaped over the flames and rushed the kaiju but were quickly cut off. The kaiju tore at them with tooth and claw, tearing the poor dogs to shreds. As their numbers lowered, the kaiju managed to latch it's pincer-like tail around their throat, draining them of every once of energy they were worth, leaving nothing but a shriveled corps to pile up with the rest. Laser horn slashed and micro-oxygen was loosed as the battle ranged and the Diamond Dogs could do nothing about it, their fates were sealed. It was a slaughter house and Destroyah was the butcher. Destroyah hacked and slashed at the swarming dogs. Bodies hit the floor at a rapid pace but still more came. The halls, now littered with corpses and painted red, were all but desecrated. Dogs fell decapitated, disemboweled, dismembered, liquefied, there was nothing the kaiju didn't do to their piteous forms. Soon their numbers began to thin for good but that didn't make the kaiju fight any nicer. The kaiju continued to fight at maximum potential and soon, all the guards were slaughtered. Destroyah stood there in all its glory, drenched in blood atop the bodies of the fallen. The demon scanned the floor to see corpses everywhere. Bones were left split and exposed, skulls were no longer recognizable, flesh was torn, liquefied and oozing blood, muscles were ruptured and hacked to pieces, bodies left dismembered and split in two. It was an egregious sight but to the kaiju, it was pure joy!
Destroyah stood alone as the undefeated champion of the tunnels but then, the three head Diamond Dogs came into view. The little one charged the kaiju, clearly not learning from the massive slaughter. Destroyah's reared back and its clawed hoof came crashing down on the puny mutt, shattering the dog's skull and adding a fresh splatter of blood to its blazing chest. Now it was time for the beefy dog to get mad. He moved forth and cracked his knuckles.
"You pay for that. He was good friend."
"Then join him."
Both the kaiju and the monster dog prepared themselves for battle, entering their own respected battle stances. The dog was in a semi charge, semi defensive pose preferring to be more well-rounded in battle. Destroyah stayed in a crouched and ready to lunge pose, wanting to go for a fast and easy kill. Destroyah bolted at the dog who merely sidestepped the kaiju. The dog reached out and grabbed Destroyah's tail but the blood coating its body allowed it to free itself without too much of a hassle. Destroyah brought up its clawed hoof but the dog caught it. Destroyah did the same with its other hoof but the dog caught it just the same. They were left in this 'grapple war' for a few seconds, each one pushing against the other, hoping to overpower its rival and topple him to the floor. Destroyah grew tired of this nonsense and latched its tail pincer onto the dogs ankle, surprising the strong mutt. Destroyah brought one of its wings up and jabbed the dog in the eye with its large wing claw. The dog put its paw to its face in pain. Destroyah took advantage of the mutt's unbalanced stance and lifted him clean off the ground with its tail, slugging him into the opposite wall with great force. Destroyah flew up and shoulder charged the dog, driving him further into the wall. Its massive shoulder spike tore deep into the dog's hide right behind its shoulder blade, cracking a few ribs but barely missing his internal organs. The dog cried out in pain but refused to give in. Destroyah reared up but was caught with a right hook to the jaw. The herculean dog pulled himself from the wall and punched the kaiju in the stomach before grabbing it by the shoulders and tossing it back into the same wall. Destroyah felt its already injured wings snap on the impact. Destroyah grunted in pain as the dog continued to punch it in its softer underbelly. Destroyah loosed a burst of micro-oxygen directly into the brute's face, singing his fur and tearing at his feeble skin, liquefying his already gored eye and the surrounding tissue. While the dog was distracted by the pain, Destroyah forced the mutt to the floor with a strong push, freeing himself in the same motion. The kaiju rose from the crumbled wall and stood proud, despite its right wing drooping to the floor, oozing green blood from the tear as well as lightly leaking down its lower jaw, mingling with the crimson life of its fallen foes. Destroyah charged the dog but was dropped to the floor by the slippery blood blanketing the floor. The kaiju slid past the dog, tearing out his large Achilles tendon with its massive central horn as it went by, forcing the mutt to drop to his knees. Destroyah rose ominously behind the dog as if an incarnation of Lucifer himself, red micro-oxygen energy crackled across its central horn as even more of the deadly bio-weapon leaked from the beasts savage jaws. Destroyah swung its head skywards in a bladed arc, landing a direct hit to the Diamond Dog's soft jugular, sending the slaughtered mutt flying across the room, blood spurring from the gaping wound. The lifeless body came crashing down with a heavy thud on the other side of the room but to the surviving Diamond Dog's horror, it had no head! Turning its attention back to Destroyah, the mutt watching in sheer horror as the head he was looking for fell into the kaiju's open palm... and it crushed it! Destroyah gave the survivor a devilish grin as it crashed the skull. It then walked calmly over the bodies strewn across the floor and stared down the lead and only surviving Diamond Dog.
"P-please don't k-kill me!"
The kaiju leaned in and said one thing "Run!" That was all the mutt had to hear. The dog bolted away, scampering down the corridor and deeper into the darkness. When the dog was out of sight, the real horror began. Gaping its jaws and extending its massive claws, the demonic kaiju crashed face-first into the nearest carcass, tearing out huge chunks of flesh with every gruesome bite. It continued to tear its way through the bodies, spreading even more blood across the dungeon. The fleeing dog could hear the dreaded sounds of its kin being devoured by the demon as it retreated and it nearly made the poor soul loose its lunch. Rarity and Spike, still waiting outside the hole, were astounded as the Diamond Dog rushed out of the hole and ran off without a word, more of a horrified scream. They starred curiously as the dog faded into the distance, then they stuck their heads down the shoot for any sights of Destroyah. There were none.
