It's only been a few days since Shining Armor, Prince Consort of the Crystal Empire, made the grave mistake of venturing off to contront Queen Chrysalis in the Frozen North by himself. By the time he returned to his Empire without being caught, the stallion was firmly within Chrysalis' thrall after being successfully brainwashed by her, and turned into her obedient Slave/Brood-Stallion. Even though there was a chance that he could've broken from his Mistress' mind-control, his intense addiction to Chrysalis' pheromone-laden eggs ensured that he wouldn't put up much of a fight. Because of that, Shining was left blissfully ignorant of his downfall by the time he finally brought his Queen into the city limits himself.

Chrysalis had asked for Shining's assistance in overthrowing his very Empire, and he was quick to use his military experience to do just that. Instead of just repeating the Changeling's past mistakes, Shining knew he would need to induct another stallion to join alongside him in making his Queen's wish a reality. But in a city full of paranoid Crystal Ponies, and with the Crystal Castle carrying a strong line of communication with Canterlot and the Elements of Harmony, who could the corrupted stallion use to assist in Chrysalis' plans?

The answer of course, was to bring the sadistic Queen to one of the smartest ponies he knew: Sunburst.
