A Merpony's Adventure

Twilight sighed as she sat on a chair in Maremuda. She surrounded by books as Pinkie was swimming around giggling. Rainbow Dash was trying her best to get one of the guards to race her while Rarity was busy staring at the lack of fashion. Fluttershy was watching the fish. Moving from the window she noticed her friends were in their own world allowing her to move from the library. Moving along the halls she noticed that there were hardly any pictures of Selene. the many pictures were her brothers and the past families that roamed these halls. Triton was at the end of the hall talking to a crafter.

“I thought you would be in the library for hours” he spoke up as the crafter pony bowed. He took his leave leaving them alone.

“I can not think about books at this moment.”

“I was told you like magic by Celestia and Luna” Triton tilted his head as Twilight nodded.

“I do but I am not sure I want to learn at the moment”

“You sure? I could give you some spell orbs”

“Spell orbs?”

“Oh, it's what I call them. you were probably were told something different by Selene. and do not tell me she has not taught you magic. You are using sonar to send signals out at the moment” he smiled causing her to blush.

“My friends haven’t noticed and”

“You need to know the Sonar spell. Why don’t you talk to Star? She said to meet her in the training field right?” he chuckled “I need to oversee the incoming guards and this party the nobles want to throw. I don’t want the citizens to know what is happening” he smiled before leaving her alone. Twilight sighed as she moved towards Selene’s room. It was the only place that seemed to have any peace and quiet to it. Sitting on the bed she closed her eyes diving down into herself. Sitting on the training field she noticed Selene was sitting on the throne asleep. She looked as if she never woke up from the night before causing Twilight to move towards her.

“Don’t go near her” Star spoke up as Twilight turned around.

“Why”

“Because that is an illusion” she watched as Twilight’s ears flatten against her head.

“Did you want me to come here just to tell me that?” Twilight snapped as Star shook her head.

“I didn’t want to say this part because I didn’t know who was listening”

“So you were hiding something”

“Yes, I was” Star sat on a bubble sighing “Listen what you are going to go up against is not a sea witch. They are tainted sea witches. Meaning they are more connected to the shadows so you need to be careful about what you say”

“Wait but I thought they were all sea witches?” she blinked as Star shook her head.

“You and Kibby are sea witches. Sea witches are merponies who can use magic at will. You are what they fear” Star smiled as Twilight sighed.

“What is wrong?”

“I just feel like the world is falling down”

“How about I show you the way to my cave. I may have some tears left. But on another note where are the princesses?”

“Oh, they are with their older sister. Triton sent Ra and Za

“That is a trip I am glad we are not on” Star shivered. Twilight looked at her as she felt herself falling from the bed. She groaned for a bit before pushing herself up.

“Now where am I going” she rubbed her head as Star smiled.

“Once you get to the wall that separates the wild and the kingdom. Follow the glowing rocks. If you run into Ra ask him to take you there” Twilight sighed as she started to follow Star’s orders. Ra and Za were busy moving along the sea bed following the directions that Star had given them.

“You think this is going to work?”

“No, but what else are we going to do?” Ra looked towards Za who simply sighed.

“At least it isn’t very far” Ra was stopped as he noticed something. It was a skull but over the skull was a symbol.

“Hey Za what was the symbol the king would be wearing?”

“A sun with a wave under it why?”

“I think I found the king” he held the skull up with the amulet attached. Za moved towards him looking around noticing broken bottles and books mixed into the sea.

“Well shit. Collect the skull. Use the spell we use with Selene to collect the books and bottles. We need to take everything back with us.” She shook her head as they started to collect the bottles and the books. Ra had the skull on a rock while he went around collecting the bottles and books. As they were collecting the books and the bottles a witch sat in the distance and watched them silently. Selene sighed as she leaned back in her chair tapping her hoof on the arm of it.

“What are your guards doing?”

“Who the buck knows”

“Keep an eye on them. they know something” the witch was huffing as she was not getting her way “You know I thought this would be easier”

“I thought you would learn by watching Star” Selene huffed causing the witch to growl. Before tossing her trident to the ground the witch had a plan.

“Sapphire is the other witches here?” she shouted causing the merpony to walk in.

“Yes they are” she watched as the witch smiled.

“Get them ready. We will attack Maremuda in a day” the witch watched as the merpony left the room. Selene sighed as she started to rub her head. She sat back in the chair closing her eyes for a moment. For that brief moment, she was back in the training arena where she saw Twilight and Star talking. She couldn’t hear them and apparently, they didn’t notice her. Just watching this made her hurt.

“Remember you are doing this because you have no choice” the witch hissed in her ear causing her to curl up in a ball. Selene was trying to drift off to sleep but noticed something weird. She was in the middle of the ocean where she noticed Twilight. She was staring at some fish cursing at herself. Thinking this was a dream Selene made her way over.

“You know cursing won’t help right?” she smiled as Twilight turned towards her. Twilight noticed the black circles around Selene’s eyes as her tail had flecks of black scales scattered around.

“Oh now my own fucking mind is playing games with me” Twilight growled as Selene let out a soft chuckle before coughing.

“I could say the same about my own head” her voice was soft as she lay stretched out on the sand.

“Is that all your going to do?” Twilight pointed at Selene “I mean if my head is going to fuck with me you should at least be hugging and kissing me” the irritation was showing in Twilight’s voice.

“Really you going to chew me out after I have no energy. I have been keeping this witch at bay and making her keep her bloody promise to me” Selene sat up as she looking towards Twilight.

“Promise what promise” that is what caught her attention as Selene blinked.

“She promised me when I was on the island with my family. She would stay away from the surface and my family keeping them safe. But she getting ready for an attack on Maremuda” Selene sighed as she let out a soft chuckle “But I am a fool since my family most likely be in Maremuda”

“Maremuda is going to be under attack?” the panic set in Twilight’s voice as Selene nodded.

“I know my aunts will go after the King Atlas”

“Well, that is obvious” Twilight crossed her hooves as Selene shook her head.

“Well, they're going to find nothing but bone. Apparently, his cave collapsed in trapping him under a rock damaging the gem on his back. one the gem has passed on the one on the old ruler because of a heart. So if it gets damaged they can die. His cave was collapsed when an earthquake hit. I read it in a library. You would love it. A large cave was full of books. But you can not read all of them since the words are damaged beyond repair” Selene looked down towards the sand.

“Twilight Sparkle!” Luna’s voice filled the area causing both merponies turn their heads.

“Did you hear that?”

“I did” Selene looked towards her left noticing her aunt Luna walking up to them.

“Here you are. We were getting worried when you weren’t waking up from the rouge sleep spell” Luna moved towards Twilight as Selene sat up.

“Please tell me you see Luna”

“Well yeah she in my dream”

“Oh this isn’t good” Selene sat up as she felt the ground shaking “Oh the witch knows” her ears flatten as she turned behind her watching as the witch appeared behind her. Shadows wrapped around Selene’s tail pulling her back. Luna got in front of Twilight her horn flaring.

“So this is where you went. I was wondering why I didn’t hear your bloody yapping in my head” the witch growled as she noticed Twilight before turning to Selene “Keep your promise and I will keep mine” she hissed allowing the shadows to pull Selene under.

“So you two are still connected by magic. how odd but so interesting” the witch gave a toothy smile towards Twilight “Listen to me you little whelp. Piss me off and I will break the promise I have to Selene” she sang out before disappearing leaving them alone.

“Princess?” Twilight looked up towards her.

“Twilight I will talk in person” she waved her hoof causing Twilight to wake up. She sat up noticing the others were floating around her while Luna sat at the foot of the bed her eyes closed.

“Ow,” Twilight rubbed her head as Triton looked over at her.

“I am so sorry Twilight. The guards were going after a thief and they hit you” he rubbed his hooves together. Princess Luna opened her eyes and gave a cough to silence the room.

“Twilight if that was Selene she did not look in good shape”

“She told me a few things but I am not sure if they are true and,” she noticed Ra and Za were floating beside the bed “Wait you two are back early. Let me guess you found bones” she watched as their eyes widen.

“How did you know. We haven’t told a soul yet” the others turned to Ra and Za.

“Wait you found nothing but bone. How!” King Triton shouted.

“Selene said an earthquake hit and he was trapped under the rock cracking the gem.”

“Wait so if the information that the dream Selene gave Twilight was correct then.”

“We saw the real Selene” Twilight looked towards Luna.

“Look if that is true. I made contact and can keep talking to her. But for now, she is not looking so good as the witch is in full control”

“And she getting ready for an attack on Maremuda” Twilight watched as Triton sighed.

“The nobles are throwing a party tomorrow. Me and the boys are using that to bring in guards from their kingdoms. Maremuda is the first Kingdom before you hit my sons. So if we fall the boys will be well prepared. If we do fall Ra, Za get them to the islands while the others will take the rest to Mount Aires to m sister”

“Wait you have a sister” Aurora crossed her hooves as Triton nodded.

“She queen of the hippogriffs. Did what I kind of did. Went against our parents and married our loves. Father approved of you more because you could pass for merpony” he sighed as Rainbow got in his face.

“You fell in love with a surface pony and you wouldn’t let your daughter! How messed up is that!” she growled as the others pulled Rainbow off.

“I know” he turned around leaving them to their own device. Twilight looked towards the others as they were staring at their hooves or at each other unsure of what to do. Getting off the bed she moved through the hall trying to clear her head.

“Twilight” hearing her name being call caused her to stop and turn to notice Queen Aurora swimming towards her.

“Queen Aurora”

“Follow me Twilight” she smiled as she swam past the confused merpony. Twilight sighed as she followed the queen feeling as she was being pulled in every direction. Aurora was quiet till she reached a large golden door.

“This is my private study” she smiled unlocking it. As she pushed the door open Twilight could see the room was filled with books and armor “I have seen many scholars Twilight as you tossed into battle with no knowledge or anything. I saw Starswirl get tossed into battle by my own father” she sighed as she sat on a piece of coral allowing Twilight to swim into the room. her eyes were glued to the books as Aurora watched her.

“You knew Starswirl?”

“Well, I knew the young one. He was tossed into many battles and forced to win”

“what am I supposed to do? This is not a battle” Twilight sat on another piece of coral as Aurora looked towards her.

“Twilight you need to look at this either as a battle or as a game of chess. Your opponent has moved her pieces on the board one at a time in a scattered movement. They have your king but you have the field. Your pawns know where to move your friends or your knights know where to move. You are the queen who can move anywhere. You can easily know stuff. How you use this knowledge and how you move is what makes the move powerful. At the moment you and your opponent are on the same line staring at each other. The right which takes you down the path of war and fighting with a high risk of losing the king is open. But the left which takes you down the path of knowledge and shadows and magic with a high risk of getting the king in tack is open. Which one are you going to pick?” Aurora watched as Twilight was busy thinking. Her ears were twitching as she blinked a few times.

“When you say shadows and magic what do you mean?” she looked up and noticed a smile on Aurora’s face.

“That is what it means my dear. shadows” she waved her hoof dragging the shadows from the ground creating a little ball “and when I say magic I mean old magic” she smiled as she got up from the coral. Moving to one of the bookshelves “I know a lot of old magic my dear ranging from StarSwirls first spell ever created to the newest magic here in Maremuda” she pulled a book from the shelf and smiled “one rule you are not a surface pony anymore my dear. you are a merpony while you are here. And merponies are allowed to use shadow magic if protecting themselves. This book explains the law and spells on shadow magic” she smiled as Twilight took the book in her hooves. Her eyes were lighting up.

“Thank you” her ears went up as she fled the room causing Aurora to chuckle and smile. Twilight held the book to her chest as she moved through the castle halls wearing a smile on her face.

“Twilight head to my cave we need to talk about this book” Star spoke up as Twilight stopped.

“Are you sure”

“Yes” This left Twilight unsure. She sighed as she moved from the halls towards the kingdom.
