Chapter 2 Escaping the Armada
Previous ChapterNext ChapterChapter 2 Escaping the Armada
Blackjack was carrying Blue Song on her shoulders, running as fast as she could, doing her best to escape. It was helpful to run with her robotic leg's, even though the rest of her body, was flesh, and bone. She only had synthetic hip bones, such were designed to keep her robotic leg's working. Blackjack could feel herself panting, and breathing, doing her best to keep herself going. She had put as much distance from her, and Armada City as physically possible, but that didn't mean she was out of the wood's yet. She heard the howling behind her, as the sound of loud Dune Buggy engines were approaching. She kept running, and running, but she also was getting prepared.
Blackjack pulled a grenade out, making sure it was primed, while letting the Dune Buggies get closer to her. After they opened fire, Blackjack pulled the pin, and threw the grenade behind her, making sure her timing was perfect. The grenade worked, as one of the Dune Buggies bounced on four wheels, losing control of its steering, and crashing into the other Dune Buggy. One Dune Buggy spun out of control, and crashed into one of the toxic areas of the wasteland. The other Dune Buggy was swerving out of control, trying to maintain traction, to keep ahead on the chase. The Dune Buggy itself lost traction, as the vehicle flipped sideways, over, and over again.
Blackjack managed to duck her body down in time, as the entire dune buggy flipped over her, before crashing onto the hard radioactive soil, coming to a stop. The wrecked Dune Buggy let out some hissing steam, as Blackjack herself stared at the wrecked Dune Buggy. She heard the loud groaning of a stallion driver, as he began to crawl out into the wasteland. The stallion was trying to get to a gun on the ground, before hearing the sound of a pistol being cocked. Blackjack, held the wounded Blue Song in her hand, while aiming the small black pistol at her enemy, as a smile formed on her lip's.
"Jackpot" Blackjack spat, as she pulled the trigger, killing the wounded Armada soldier. His head began spilling blood from the clear bullet that was lodged into his skull. She quickly holstered the pistol, and began running into the wasteland.........never looking back. She tried to get Blue Song to safety, and managed to collect some more ammo, as well as pulling out a small refurbished PPSH. The Assault Rifle was rather old, but it was at least helpful. She traversed through miles, upon miles of wasteland, finally reaching a non radioactive area. Even though some of the area had been restored, there were still radiation spikes everywhere.
She gently layed Blue Song down on the ground, quickly checking his pulse. He was alive, but barely. She checked all of the supplies they had, and brought with them, and couldn't find any medkit's. She needed a miracle right now, hell she needed more than that. She quickly used some nearby sticks, and wood to light a fire next to both of them. Right now it was night time, and there was only so much she could do. She ripped off some of the dark blue Armada uniform she wore, as she not only pulled a blanket over him, but put pressure on his wound. He's was bleeding so much, and showed no sign's, of stopping. "How are you doing, Blue?" Blackjack asked, as Blue weakly cracked a smile.
"Heh, I should have known the Armada would try something like this" He chuckled before coughing up blood.
"Save your strength Blue, I'll find something to help you, we've just got to keep moving after this" Blackjack told him, as Blue Song coughed.
"Blackjack, it's too late for me.......go......survive in the wasteland's *cough* take my ammunition, food, and water" Blue Song advised her, as Blackjack leaned his head on her lap.
"Don't talk like that, your going to get outta of this I promise" Blackjack snapped back, doing her best to hide her tears. Blue Song could detect the shakiness in her voice, as he looked up to her, and whispered.
"That's a promise you won't be able to keep" He told her, as his head slumped back on her lap, his eye's closing one last time as his breathing stopped. Blackjack held the corpse she had, and began crying. Blue Song was everything to her, she met the guard who was part of the Project Horizon guardsmen, when she first awoke from stasis. They both would laugh, and drink at the Stable 99 bar, even if they said of how bad the place was. The time they spent with each other was remarkable, and Blackjack grew to love him so much. After Blackjack made the plan to betray the Armada.......he was with her, because he wanted out.
It was hard for her to eat, and she managed to get some rest. By dawn she had began digging a grave, as she buried him respectfully, covering the stallion she loved up with the soil, returning him to the earth. She used the tool's she had to make a gravestone, as she wrote his name on it, and sighed sadly. Tears flowed from her eyes, as she barely had the strength to take the shovel wit her. She was alone, she was in the horrible outside world all by herself. She was without friend's, and family. She felt like she had no amount of hope, while sighing, and speaking to herself.
"In the Wasteland, you lose everything......your friend's, your innocence, your compassion, and your hope. You do everything you can to make up for it, knowing that you will never succeed in getting rid of the guilt. You devote yourself to spending every second trying to do better despite the fact that it will never be enough. You pray that with every single good act you do, that somehow when your life is over, that you came close to making up the wrong you committed".
Blackjack sighed, whispering those word's. "5......4.......3........2.......1.......Time for another thrilling day" She snarled, while cocking the shotgun she had left, and proceeded onward in the wasteland's.
