"On the edge!"
"No!" "No!" "No!" Screamed Cherry. Knocking on the door begging to come back in. After moments of this she sat and thought awhile of the situation at hoof. I sat while still feeling the wind on me.
"They won't let us back in you know." I said with a deep sadness. "We will have to move on to this new world." The wind was gaining on the cave walls. With the sound of scraping surrounds us.
"Wow I did not realize till I turned around. It is very dark in here." She said while illuminating the cave with a pink layer of light from her horn.
"I would not know that." I said with a chuckle to bring joy to her.
She laughed out loud for the first time since we were bucked out of our home. "I guess you would not." still laughing about it. With the light illuminating the cave, searching for an exit became much easier to find now. She found the exit of the cave with eagerness, as she walked the ticking of her pip-buck started to go off. What we learned while in the stable was that it means that radiation was in the air.
I told her to stay with me until the rain will pass. We were bewildered by the whole event with the rain. The cracks of thunder rips through our thoughts. "Was the world suppose to be to be clean and safe to walk in by now?" We thought as we shiver in the cave. Holding our hooves together and laying our heads on one to another. The last thing we remember before passing out of sleepiness was how hard and wet the floor was. As we drifted off to dreams of comfy beds that we have departed from.
By the time we woke up the storm had long passed. During the night we woke up now and then from a loud thunder. I can feel the heat from an unknown source to me. "What is this feeling? Cherry, what can you see?" As I asked, trying to feel for my walking stick. It was missing. I panicked at the very moment, its the only reminder of my mother in the stable. May Luna bless her. She is probably scared with every ounce of her soul. She is a firm believer of Luna and Celestia being our goddesses protecting us. But, me I don't believe. How would they made me the way I am with no sight and no cutie mark? My mother made the stick with special care, its in fact from the orchard itself. It's a staff with a carving of a mare and colt together, with the words I love you carved on it. I always handled it with care for that reason only, except of course for guiding me around. It took her a year just to perfect the carvings and level of it. As these thoughts occurred to me. I realize that Cherry had not responded with my questions from before.
"Cherry, where the hell are you?" I screamed at the top of my lungs.
No response!
No eye sight, no walking stick. What to do? As I paced back and forth from where I once was standing. I heard noises at the very back of cave. As I headed the direction, almost tripping over corpses of the once living. Thoughts came to mind of how they got there or what they did in their lives. They were just like me at one point. Tears running down my cheeks as these thoughts came to me.
Shuffle! Shuffle!
I stopped at that very spot. Pure silence have overtaken the area. The sudden shuffling started to move to my direction.
"What or who are you?" I asked with the hesitation of a pony who might die.
The shuffling just continued on to my direction. The tapping was closer and closer. As it got closer, I could hear the growls of what sounded like a pony.
"Why are you not talking to me?" I asked while walking backwards to the direction where I came from.
The suddenness of it all caught me off guard. As this mysterious pony jumped on me with such a feral force. My own hooves almost gave way to the surprising attack. It was trying to gnaw off my face or anywhere it could bite off. The saliva was hitting the tip of my nose. It kept on dripping till it hit my mouth. That moment I, let my guard down by spitting that disgusting taste. But, as I did this. A sudden realization hit, whatever was trying to eat me was rotting. The horrid smell consumed my sense of smell.
This is all I needed to make my day even better. Losing my friend and stick. Now a crazy pony trying to kill me for a meal out of me. I don't know what happen. One minute the pony that was almost close to eating me, was chomping his teeth to bite off my nose. Next minute I felt a strong force knocking it over my body. It must have been killed from the impact of the striking blow. The leakage of blood landed on my face, the breathing of my enemy ceased. I lied there exhausted with the strength fading from me. With the exhaustion and shock of the situation I passed out. With the fear that whatever killed that thing will exterminate me next.
"Hello!" "Hello!" Said a sudden a voice with a droll to it. "Stranger you still with me, or did you die of a heart attack?"
I shook myself with a stir that made the stranger jumped right up in the air. "Who in pre tell I am having the honor to know?" I asked with a much politeness of a pony who has never met this other presence. With that thought, my survival was the first thing I was concerned with. "Wait have you seen a mare where you came from?" I ask with great fear in the stranger of killing her.
"I am the one and only explorer of the wasteland. Or a scholar of the knowledge of the world before." "But you can call Arch scroll." "No, but I did find this particular stick outside this cave." "Now that I told you who I am, who are you?"
My eyes went wide that he found the very thing I was looking for. But, sudden sadness hit that the news that my friend was no where to be found. Deduction say that she went out with my stick to get an early glimpse of the world. Something happen during the process of this to end with her missing. "What were you doing here, I might ask you?" I said with quick action and judgement. As I took back my staff with magic, from his hooves.
"Just like I told you buddy exploring." he said with slight offense. "I thought that there might be some artifacts here for me to find. But, I only found you here." "Only thing intriguing thing in here is the stable behind you." "Can you by chance open the door for me from this side." "I'm curious, I have never been in one of those things before."
The shocked expression on my face showed that the comment blew me off. Then I thought this over to get this proposition in progress. "They kicked me and my friend out for a different point of view." I said with a sly smile of confidence. If you help me find my friend out there. Help us find a certain technological device, they might let us back in there." "What do you say deal or not?" I said with the only hope I have of getting out there without dying.
He thought it over some time. "Hmmm!" "What if I don't take your deal at all?" he said with concern.
"Then you leave a blind stallion with a quest that he can't fulfill by himself." I said with mild concern, and confidence under my breath.
"Wait your blind!" with a shocked voice.
"Yes!" "Do we have a deal or not?"
"Deal!"
"Deal!"
We both said with the widest smiles in our faces of what we compromise with each other. This might end up being the best or worst partnership. I have no idea but, I have a start to lead me saving my friend and possibly the stable.
