An Unexpected Turn of Events.

Previous Chapter

I woke up to an empty void, confusion running its course through my brain.

“Where am I?” I asked myself and surprisingly got an answer as I turned to my left to see the only thing in the void, the ‘god’ that sent me here, he looked disappointed.

“You’re in a place called Inanis, why you might ask yourself, because YOU DIED OF INFECTIONS! I mean, come on, of all the ways someone could die, you died from infections because you were too lazy to fully wash your wounds!” He yelled at me and my ears tucked down to protect themselves from the harsh sound waves. “I mean, I don’t even know what to do to you, I’ve never, NEVER had a pawn die. Never, ever! You’re the first one!” I looked down, avoiding eye contact because I felt ashamed.

“I’m sorry…” I said with a dry, weak voice, barely audible unlike the god’s booming voice.

“A sorry won’t be able to fix this! I’m going to have to find ANOTHER pawn; do you want to know how long it took me to find you? Three thousand years, three THOUSAND! I mean, how could you be so stupid!? A toddler could’ve survived this, they would’ve at least washed their wounds, but no! You had to be like Rambo and go ‘I don’t need no anti-bacterial soap’ and then you died!” He yelled, flustered and pacing, I just continued to look down into nothingness, scared and ashamed. ’I’m dead… Like, dead, dead…’ I thought, dumbfounded and on the verge of an emotional breakdown.

“C-can’t you just send me back in?” I asked, trying to weasel my way back to the mortal realm.

“No, I can’t, I don’t have the power to do so. But I do have the power to infuse your soul into an object or dead body down there. But you’ve messed up so badly I’m just infuriated with you and your incapability to just STAY ALIVE!” He snapped his fingers and I was suddenly in a boiling vat of acid, screaming as my flesh, muscle and fur slowly melted from my bones. After what seemed like a life time he snapped his fingers again and my agony was gone and the vat had vanished. The god sighed, satisfied with my punishment. “You can stay here as I find another pawn. And, if he dies, I might infuse your soul into his body.”

“Alright.” I choked out, my throat dry and soar from screaming. And then off he went to find a new pawn, and there I sat… alone… in darkness.
