Chapters A Delightful Change of Plans
1st Plan - "Fifth Wheels"
The distant wail of the train fills you with anticipation. While Equestria doesn’t have the variety of locomotives that Earth does, it doesn’t really matter. You’ve been a fan of steam trains ever since you were little and you saw your first one at a special event. That’s why any chance you get, you stop by Ponyville station to watch the train arrive and depart.
The engine whistles again and glancing down the end of the platform, you see it coming into view chugging along the tracks. A few minutes pass and the passenger liner comes into full view. You rise from your seat on one of the benches as it puffs along the tracks and begins to slow. Before you know it, the train is pulling in and its breaks screech it to a gradual halt.
The engine stops at the station and releases a massive puff of steam from its boiler. The engineer blows the whistle a few times, before the conductor steps out from one of the cars. “The stop is Ponyville, I repeat, Ponyville! Everypony who’s disembarking, please exit in a calm and orderly manner. Thank you!” He walks to each of the other cars and repeats his message.
While you aren’t normally too interested in those that come and go from the train, you still watch them with due fascination. For they have just taken a very wondrous way to travel or are about to head out to any one of the incredible sights of Equestria and even to points beyond.
Standing there, you kick your shoe on the wooden planks of the platform. The sad thing is it takes a good twenty minutes of more for the train to deal with unloading and loading passengers and cargo, not to mention mail. And it can take even longer if the train needs to re-supply with water and timber or possibly coal. You aren’t entirely sure if they ever use coal in their trains. As far as you can tell, with the advent of magic, Equestria doesn’t seem to be overly big on using near the abundance of fossil fuels as humans do on Earth.
Regardless, you sit back down on the bench. Another wave of passengers is disembarking and more are getting on. So, for now, you’ll have to wait a little longer before the train departs. Not that time is an issue today. You’re off work and just killing time till Starlight Glimmer will be free to hang out. Of course it would be nice if the rest of your friends weren’t all out of town. But autumn vacation time is here again and the others wanted to visit popular destinations without the massive summer crowds.
Looking up as you cease your spacing out, you notice several ponies still roaming the small but roomy platform. There doesn’t seem to be anything too over the top about them. Then, you notice one turn your way, a rather lovely unicorn in fact. She has an orange coat with off white splotches on her fore and hind legs, almost like stockings or boots. What’s more is she appears to be walking over to you.
You slowly stand up, not entirely sure if she’s heading your way or for the stairs at the end of the platform.
“You there.” She speaks, pointing a hoof at you.
Looking around, you are curious what she wants with you. “Me?” You ask pointing a finger at yourself.
She nods and briefly fluffs her reddish mane. “Yes. I don’t recognize anypony here and I’ve heard you humans tend to be rather helpful. You are a human, aren’t you? Is that correct?” She places a hoof to her chin and looks you over with her chartreuse eyes.
Blinking for a moment you aren’t sure what to think, but since the train isn’t going anywhere, there seems to be no harm in answering a few questions.
“Yeah. I’m a human. And while I can’t speak for all of us, I really do enjoy helping others.” You give her a closer look. “You’re not from around here, are you?”
She shakes her head. “No. I come from the northwest. A town called Sire’s Hollow.” Her eyes widen. “Oh, I’ve been terribly rude. My name is Stellar Flare. And you would be?”
“Oh, right. My name is…” You speak your name to her and smile. “It’s nice to meet you, Stellar Flare. Are you trying to find your way around?”
She speaks your name. “It’s a pleasure I’m sure. And yes, I am trying to get my bearings. I haven’t been to Ponyville in quite some time.”
“Where are you heading?”
Stellar Flare holds up a hoof. “I’m here to see my son, Sunburst. He said he was spending a lot of time here with his friend Starlight Glimmer.”
“Oh, Sunburst. Of course, I know your son.” You give her a reassuring look.
“You do?” She looks at you and grins. “Can you take me to him?”
“Of course. He’s staying at the castle, so is Starlight. They are both friends of…”
“I know, the princess. I’m eager to meet her as well.” There’s a very jubilant tone in her voice.
“Well, what are we waiting here for? I’ll escort you. Follow me.” You start for the steps and wait for her to follow.
“Gladly. And is it me or do you seem like someone that has a plan?” She places a hoof to her chin, before she follows after you.
The two of you descend the stairs and walk into the bustling streets of Ponyville. Sadly, the train will have to wait for another day, but this might prove to be far more interesting.
“Well, plans don’t always go off without a hitch, but I like to have one whenever I have something important to do.” You smile. “Like leading the parent of a friend through town.”
Stellar Flare chuckles. “Then I’d say you’re more prepared than most.”
“Come on, the castle isn’t far now.” You look to your right, but can’t find her. Then you feel a slight start when you turn to see her trotting on your left.
“Did I startle you a little?” She smiles.
“Just a little. I thought you were to my right.” You grin briefly.
“So, I take it you know your way around town pretty well then?” She looks your way and almost seems like she’s testing you.
You nod confidently. “You bet I do. I’ve been living here for over three years now. I love Ponyville. Of course, it might be nice to get out some day and see the rest of Equestria.” For some dumb reason you can’t resist the urge to flirt with her a little. “Hmm, you know, I even have a plan in the works.”
“Oh, you do?” She leans her head your way. “Well, there’s nothing I love more than a good plan.”
You smile contently, that look she gave you, perfect. She actually flirted back. Taking a calming breath you lead her down the next street. “If you’ll look ahead, Stellar Flare.”
“Please, Stellar will be fine.” She grins at you.
“Okay, Stellar. If you’ll look ahead, there it is.” You hold up a hand in a presenting fashion.
“Oh my.” Stellar takes in the sight of Princess Twilight’s castle. It’s presiding majestically at the end of the street. The castle’s crystalline features are shimmering in the morning sunlight as it stands a glorious icon overlooking Ponyville. “I’ve heard other ponies talk about it and seen it in pictures in the paper, but…you really do have to experience it.”
“Yeah, pictures don’t do it justice.” You nod. “If you’ll follow me, I’ll lead us inside.”

You lead Stellar Flare inside Twilight’s Castle and are just heading down the main hall. She walks a little closer to you, while she continues to look around and seems a bit puzzled.
“Something wrong, Stellar?”
“Well.” She takes one more glance. “Where are the guards, this castle doesn’t seem overly defended and why is it so empty?” Stellar looks your way, a demanding tone in her voice.
“From what I know, Twilight never saw much of a need for guards. Besides, part of this castle does double as a library for the entire town.” You sigh and shake your head. “It’s such a shame what happened to the old one. I hear the Golden Oak Library was amazing.” You lift up your head and smile. “But, for better or for worse, we have this massive castle now. And at least there are far more books to choose from. Oh, and as for why it’s so empty. I don’t really know, every time I’m here the hallways are just like this, aside from the library.”
She nods and places an intrigued hoof to her chin. “Mm-hmm. You certainly know your stuff. Oh, where will I find Sunburst?”
“He should be up ahead. This castle has a very unique throne room.” You lead Stellar Flare right up to the double doors. Opening them, you hold out your hand. “Here were are. Right this way.”
Stellar follows you inside and much to your delight, you see Twilight Sparkle, Starlight Glimmer and Sunburst are all at the map table. You cock your head to the side. The trio seems to be immersed in something.
“Sunburst! There you are!” Stellar Flare calls as she gallops over to her son.
Sunburst’s eyes widen. “Mom?! What are you doing here?”
She gives him that motherly look. “Well come now. I told you I was going to stop by for a visit. Especially since you said you have been staying here instead of at the Crystal Empire.”
He places a hoof behind his head. “Yeah. I did say that. But aren’t you coming next Tuesday?”
She chuckles and holds up her calendar book. “Sweetie, this is next Tuesday.”
Sunburst adjusts his glasses and turns to the others. “Right. Uh, mom, you remember Starlight…oh and here’s somepony I know you’ve wanted to meet. Say hello to Princess Twilight Sparkle.”
Stellar Flare walks over to them. A big smile forms on her face as she greets the princess. “Your highness, this is such a pleasure.” She bows respectfully.
Twilight smiles back and nods. “Oh, please, the pleasure is mine. So you’re Sunburst’s mother?”
“Yes. I’m Stellar Flare. Sunburst has told me so much about you…well, when he bothers to write or visit.” She gives her son that same motherly look again only this time it’s more on the disappointed side.
“Mom, please, I’m a very busy wizard. And don’t worry, I’ve been working on a plan this time.”
The three of them continue to chat, while you stand there and simply observe. Then you hear a familiar voice. “Just hanging around?”
“Starlight.” You smile at her. “How’s it going?”
“Fine, I guess. What are you doing here?” She looks at you a bit funny.
Her tone makes your face nearly fall as you turn to her. “Well, I was killing time at the train station. Stellar Flare was one of the passengers onboard. She stepped off and asked me to help her find her way. And I know, I’m a little early.”
“Yeah. About that.” Starlight taps her hoof on the floor. “Sunburst found a very interesting artifact in that barrel of items he bought at the antique shop.”
“Okay. Was it anything fun?”
“Well, not anything too amazing…uh, yet. But that’s why we’re going to be spending most of the day checking magical relic reference books to see if we can find it and figure out how to use it. And once we do, Twilight is confident it won’t take too long. Then, we’re going to try to activate it.”
“Okay, that sounds fun…wait, are you going to be here instead…all day?” You look at her and really fight to keep your face from falling.
“Um…yes.” She bites her lip, then sighs. “I know we were hoping to hang out today. But, Sunburst and Twilight said they could really use my help and magical expertise with the artifact.”
“Sure, sure.” You close your eyes for a moment and nod. “I understand. So, I guess this means.” You sigh. “We’ll hang out another day?”
“Yeah.” Starlight places a supportive hoof on your shoulder. “I’m so sorry about this. Before breakfast, I thought things were going to go as planned. Then Sunburst came rushing in with news.”
You hold up a hand. “Don’t worry about it. It’s fine. I can always find something else to do.” Forcing a smile, you hold up your index finger. “Yeah, I can head back to the station and watch the train leave. And if I get bored, maybe I’ll just go to work and save my day off. Besides, I can always use the bits.”
Starlight bites her lip again. “Are you sure? I really don’t like the idea of having you feel left out. That goes against everything Twilight taught me about friendship.”
You place a hand on her pale purple shoulder. “It’s fine, Starlight.” You sway your head. “Yeah, I’m a bit disappointed, but, it happens when you have lots of friends.”
She blinks her blue violet eyes at you and pats her hoof on your forearm. “Really? I mean I’m sure you could tag along, but I doubt you’d enjoy all that technical reading and the magic part could be a little dangerous.”
You pat her shoulder. “Don’t worry. It’ll be fine. We’ll hang out next time.”
“Okay. If you’re sure.” Starlight doesn’t seem completely convinced, but she looks over her shoulder and you see a sense of urgency in her eyes.
“Go on, don’t let me keep you. I have a train to go watch.”
“All right. I’ll see you later.” She looks around, then draws you into a friendly hug. “We’ll hang out later…I promise.”
You return her hug and pat her back reassuringly. “I know we will. Good luck with that relic.”
“Thanks.” Starlight smiles, before she heads back over to the others.
Standing there for a moment, you see Twilight talking with Stellar Flare and can swear Sunburst is sweating. He keeps wiping his forehead anyway. And now, Starlight has joined them.
Yep, now, more than a fifth wheel, you’d end up being a broken wheel in that group. Casting out a sigh, you are at least grateful you can go watch the train as it departs. Turning around, you make a discrete exit and head back into Ponyville.

Nearly two hours have passed since you left the castle and watched the train leave. You spent the rest of the time talking to the conductor and ticket master about trains and sharing what you know with them. Now, you’re just contemplating what you want to do. You really were hoping to hang out with Starlight and really don’t want to go into work, but it may be your best option. For now, you’re heading back to the castle. You can check on Starlight’s progress at least. Maybe things went better than she expected and the two of you can get to hang out after all.
“Nothing ventured, nothing gained.” You mutter to yourself.
You approach the castle, only to hear rather loud voices. Glancing over at the main door, you see Sunburst and his mom, Stellar Flare. They seem to be in some kind of heated debate. “Mom, it’s really great that you stopped by, but I have important things to do.”
“So important that you can’t make time for your own mother?” She sneers at him.
“What do you mean? We’ve spent almost two hours chatting. You finally got to meet with Princess Twilight and I told you how my plan is progressing. I mean…” He adjusts his glasses. “What more do you want?”
Stellar Flare shakes her head. “Never mind. I thought after you came back home and you and Starlight solved your friendship problem that I’d get to see you more often.” She lowers her head and sighs. “I can see I was wrong.” You can hear her voice start to break.
Sunburst sighs and facehoofs. “Mom, I love you, it’s just you have to understand I’ve got a lot to do. If I’m ever to become somepony to make you proud, I’ve got to do a better job mastering magic. Otherwise…it’ll be like magic school all over again.” He snorts and turns toward the doorway. “Now if you’ll excuse me…mother. I have to go.” Sunburst heads in the doorway and slams it behind him.
Stellar stands there with a hoof held up. “But…I’m already proud of you.” She hangs her head and sighs. “Why, why did I think this trip was a good idea? Maybe my plan was wrong, somehow.”
From her reaction and exchange with her son, you figure there’s no point in heading inside to see Starlight. A similar, but less heated, altercation would no doubt go down between the two of you as well. Casting out a sigh you turn and head for the nearby arched bridge. Standing along its parapet you lean and look over at the water. As the creek ripples, you notice another reflection join yours.
“So, we meet again.”
You turn and see Stellar Flare standing next to you. “Oh. Hi, Stellar. How are you?”
She sighs. “Well, that’s a far warmer greeting than I got from my son. Can I be honest with you?” Stellar Flare looks your way. Her eyes are more than a little troubled.
You offer her a smile. “Sure, what’s on your mind?”
“Well, so far, my meeting you has been the most pleasant part of my arrival in Ponyville. That…” She places a hoof to her chin. “And I did enjoy meeting the princess, but Sunburst managed to ruin that.”
“I take it things didn’t go so well with him?” You turn her way and offer a sympathetic look.
“No. In fact we ended up having yet another fight.”
“I heard. I’m sorry.” You turn your eyes back to the water.
“It’s not your fault. I guess it was naive of me to think he’d change overnight.” Stellar joins you in looking at the water.
For a moment, you think about your parents on Earth. Shaking your head, you look up and turn her way. “He should appreciate you, but not all parents and their children get along so well. It’s sad.”
“Tell me about it.” Stellar looks over at you. “And what about you? Why are you so downtrodden?”
“Well, you’re having your woes with Sunburst and mine are with Starlight. We were suppose to hang out today, but thanks to that relic or whatever old piece of crap your son found, I suddenly have a free day. So, now I’m just wondering what I want to do.”
The unicorn lets out a wry chuckle. “It seems neither one of us is having a very good day then.”
“Nope.” You shake your head and look out at a group of ducks swimming through the stream.
“And it was such a long train ride. But I suppose I could catch the next train home anyway.” Stellar sighs and rejoins you looking at the trickling water.
“Yeah. One thing’s for sure. I don’t feel like going into work. I mean I could save my day off then…but.”
“Ugh.” Stellar grimaces. “Why would you go into work on a day off…and one you most likely earned?”
“Yeah, when you put it that way.”
Stellar turns her head and ponders something. “Hmm. I have a thought.”
“Yeah?” You glance her way, a slight spark of enthusiasm in your eyes.
“You said you know your way around Ponyville, correct?” She gives you a rather welcoming look.
“Of course I do. But why?”
“Well, I haven’t been here in some time. Would you be interested in showing me around? It would beat having to take another train ride so soon. And, this may sound odd, but I’d enjoy the company.”
“Hmm, a tour?” You nod and smile. “Sure, that sounds like fun. And you know, this may sound weird, but I’d enjoy your company too.”
She smiles. “What’s so weird about that?”
“Nothing, I guess. Is there any place you want to start with?” You smile, while looking her way.
“You’re the tour guide, you tell me.” She grins.
“Okay, okay. Give me a moment…I’m concocting a plan.” You place a hand to your chin.
Stellar Flare’s face lights up. “Good, like I told you before, there’s nothing I love more than a good plan.”
You hold up your index finger. “I have it. Come on. I know where to start our tour.”
“Wonderful. Lead on.” Stellar smiles as the two of you take off down the street and leave the castle and your unpleasant feelings behind.
A Delightful Change of Plans
2nd Plan - "That Sounds Like Fun"
A little over an hour has passed since you began Stellar Flare’s tour of Ponyville, which is why the two of you agreed a little break seemed more than appropriate. You suggested stopping for tea at the café. Stellar was more than happy with that idea.
It’s close to noon and the café is slowly filling up with lunch goers. You and Stellar found a nice bistro table out on the patio. There’s a view of several shops and off in the distance you can see the sprawling Ponyville Marketplace.
You sit back in your chair. A small pot of tea presides between your two mugs. The table has the usual condiments including a bottle of honey and dispensers with white sugar and natural or raw sugar. Your spoons are resting on their respective napkins and the table has a small glass vase with a sampling of colorful flowers.
“Mmm, this is a good blend of green tea.” Stellar Flare takes another sip from her mug. “Yes, very good.”
You smile, after taking another sip from your cup. “I’m glad you like it.”
“I never would have guessed a human would have such an appreciation for tea.” Stellar stirs her mug, while she gives you a happy look.
You look at her a little funny, then smile. “Are you kidding? Nothing is more soothing or invigorating than a nice cup of tea. And there are so many blends.” You take long sip from your cup. “Oh yeah. This café definitely gets their tea from Jasmine Leaf’s Tea Shop.”
Stellar Flare leans on her foreleg and gives you a nod. “Wow, tea savvy and familiar with your settings. You really do have a plan…don’t you?”
You chuckle a little self-consciously. “Like I said before, Stellar, I try to.”
“Well…” She speaks your name rather fondly. “You’ve done pretty good so far. Now, what should we do next? You’ve shown me quite a bit already.” She leans back in her chair. “Mmm, and this weather is divine. Say, why don’t we stop by the market?”
“Sure, that sounds like a plan. There’s so much you can find there. And you’re right. This is a gorgeous day. Even for autumn.”
“Oh my.” Stellar just stares at you for a moment. “You said, ‘autumn,’ and not ‘fall’. So many ponies never cease to dumb it down.”
“I know. Usually I have to dumb it down too. But…” You smile and tilt your head. “I thought you’d appreciate it. You speak so elegantly.”
Stellar takes another ginger sip of her tea, then nods. “It’s just good manners and proper etiquette.”
“Is that why you wear that lovely blue tie and those pearls?” You stare shamelessly across at her.
“Naturally. Besides, why can’t a mare look her best?”
You shrug your shoulders. “No reason. Besides, it does bring our your eyes and your mane. Oh, and so does that pale blue headband.”
“My, it’s been a while since anyone has graced me with such flattery.” She looks at you half lidded. “Haven’t I heard that some of you humans enjoy the company of ponies…namely mares?”
“Yeah.” You smile, then cast out a sigh. “Which is why I saw no harm in some flirting.”
“Flirting? Nothing more?” She looks at you a bit crestfallen.
“Well. Can you answer a question, if it’s not too nosy of me?”
“What question?” She looks at you with intrigued eyes.
“Why isn’t Sunburst’s father with you?” You sit back a little and hope that isn’t too personal a question.
“Ah, yes. I’m honestly surprised you didn’t ask sooner.” Stellar sighs and her ears droop. “I was actually hoping that thanks to your flirting, you weren’t even going to bother asking.”
“Oh. Then, I gather from your reaction.” You reach over and place a sympathetic hand on her hoof. “It’s not a pleasant subject?”
“No.” She shakes her head, then stares at your hand. Looking back at you, that fond smile returns to her lips and is mirrored in her eyes. “Let’s just say in a nutshell, he’s been gone for a while…a long while, and leave it at that.”
You nod and withdraw your hand. “Okay, that’s a good enough answer for me. Then, everything else is okay?” You give her an inquisitive glance.
“What? You mean the flirting and flattery?” She asks tilting her head.
“Yes.”
She nods. “Of course, I have no problem with it. Now, how about we go to the market and gather some things for…I don’t know, are you a fan of picnicking?”
“Yeah. It’s been a while since I last went on one.” You grin.
“Splendid. Why don’t we get everything we need for a picnic, maybe even some things we don’t need.” Stellar giggles and smiles again.
“I like it. Oh, I even know a great spot for a picnic.” You smile and give her a clever look.
“And just what do you mean by a ‘great spot?’ ” The intrigue is still in her eyes.
You lean front and rest your arms on the edge of the table. “One that’s nice and peaceful…and no crowds.”
“Perfect.” This time, Stellar places a hoof on your hand. “Forgive me if I seem a little forward, but meeting you has made this a very enjoyable day. I can’t wait to check out the market and then see this place you have in mind for our picnic.”
“Then, why don’t I settle our check so we can head out? Sound like a plan to you?” You grin shamelessly.
She closes her eyes and nods. “I couldn’t have planned it better myself.”
The two of you share a few chuckles. Then, you pick up the check and together, Stellar walks over to the cashier with you, while joyful smiles decorate your faces.

After showing Stellar around the Ponyville Marketplace, the two of you do as she suggested and gather everything you two can think of for a picnic. That included buying a basket to put everything in.
Once your business is complete in Ponyville, you lead Stellar Flare out of town and to a very nice and secluded area along the woods. It’s near one of the many beautiful creeks that flows through Equestria. The area is lush with green grassy fields along both sides of the water. There are patches of woods and beyond that a sprawling forest of countless trees. A few lone trees stand just behind the creek’s shallow banks.
Checking the area over, you nod. “This looks great. What do you think, Stellar?”
Stellar trots over to you and looks around. “Yes, this spot will do nicely.” Turing toward the creek, she lets out a long sigh. “You really did have a great spot in mind.”
You chuckle as you set down the picnic basket and spread the blanket near a lone maple tree. “Yes well, I know my way around the area, even outside of town.” You chuckle, as you finish with the blanket, then turn to Stellar. “Though, I never would have pegged you as a pony that’s into picnicking.”
She walks up to you and gives you a devilish smile. “I’m just full of surprises, aren’t I?” She giggles, while ensnaring the basket in the pale green glow of her magic.
You smile grandly. “You are indeed, my lady.”
Stellar smiles as she opens the basket and sets up two plates. “What would you like to start with first?”
“Why not just put a little bit of everything on the plates. That wheat bread looks delectable, and so does the cheese and the walnuts.” You pat the side of the basket.
“Okay. How about you slice some bread, and I’ll get the cheese and nuts ready?” She looks your way and smiles.
“Sure.” You reach into the basket and get the small loaf of bread and a knife. After slicing a few pieces, you look her way. “Did you want butter or jam or some of each?”
Stellar Flare giggles as she puts some cheese on each plate. Turning your way she replies, “Why don’t you do what you’ve been doing all day…and surprise me?”
You chuckle as you reach into the basket for the proper condiments. “All right, I will.”

After enjoying a simple fare, the two of you pack up your picnic basket, and then sit there under the shade of the maple tree and bask in the gentle autumn breeze.
“Ah, that was tasty.” Stellar pats her belly and looks over at you.
“Yeah. I’m comfortably…oh what’s the word to use? Not ‘full’, but…” You shift your eyes and try to think of it.
“Do you mean ‘replete?’ ” Stellar asks.
“Yes.” You cheer. “That’s the word. Oh, Stellar, you’re such a breath of fresh air.” Your eyes widen. “Did I just say that?”
Stellar blushes as she places a hoof over her mouth. She bats her eyes at you and smiles. “You did. It’s been a while since someone made me blush like this.” She giggles nervously.
“Well, that’s a shame. I know we’ve only hung out for part of the day, but it’s been a lot of fun already.” You laugh a little. “I don’t know why, but I feel like I know you more than I actually do.”
She nods and shares in your laughter. “Then perhaps there really is such a thing as kindred spirits .”
“Yeah, maybe you’re right.” You smile at her and feeling emboldened, reach for her hoof. Gently you clasp it in your hand. A rush of exhilaration rolls up your back and that nervous feeling tickles your belly.
At first you aren’t sure what Stellar Flare is going to do, but then the look on her face tells you. She stares at you half-lidded and an affectionate smile curls up on her lips. “I feel giddy all the sudden. I don’t understand it.”
You rub your thumb along the velvety fur of her hoof. “Should I let go of you?”
“I didn’t say that. In fact, I’m rather enjoying this sensation.” She titters and tilts her head.
“Say, this is a crazy thought, but…you wouldn’t like to…I don’t know, cuddle or something re…” You’re cut off.
“Actually, I’d love to. I guess you really are one of those humans that enjoys the company of a mare.” Stellar slides closer to you.
Loosening your grip on her hoof, you give her a curious look. “What about you? Are you intrigued or repulsed at the idea of being with a human?”

“That’s right.” You nod and kiss her softly. “Regardless of what happens next, I wanted to connect with you. Stellar, I made myself a promise a long time ago.”
“And what’s that?” The affection and intrigue continue to flourish in her eyes as she runs her hoof along your hair.
“That if I ever have sex with somepony, I need to make a connection with them. It needs to mean something.” You move your hand to her shoulder. “Even if it may only be for a fleeting moment.”
She places her hooves around you and grunts softly as she hugs you. “I’m so glad to hear that.” Then, as the hug ends, she pulls back and looks at you. “Oh, but where do we go from here?”
“I’m not sure. Everything I know tells me this shouldn’t lead to a relationship or anything beyond another romp or two.”
Stellar blinks as she gives you a curious look. “And why is that? Is there a rule book?”
“I have no idea?” You shrug your shoulders.
“Well if there is a rule book then, throw it away…regardless, all you need is a good…”
Your face lights up. “Plan!”
“Exactly. I don’t know about you, but I’m willing to see if there will be more to this than a memorable picnic.”
You place both hands on her shoulders and smile. “So am I.”
The two of you finally move apart and clean up. Stellar looks over at the basket and then walks over to you. “What should we do with this leftover food? I don’t want it to go bad.”
“Hmm. We can take them back to my place.” You stand beside her and place an arm around her. “And I don’t know about you, but I’d enjoy a little nap. Would you care to join me? I have a pretty big bed…well big enough for two anyway.” You smile.
Stellar’s face lights up. “That sounds good to me.”
You chuckle. “And here I thought you were going to say, ‘That sounds like a plan.’ ”
Stellar playfully punches you with her hoof. “Got you. Come on, let’s head back to your place then. Mmm.” She lets out a faint yawn. “A nap sounds like a wonderful idea.”
“All right. Let me just finish dressing here.” You zip up and finish with your socks and shoes. “Okay, all set.”
Stellar brushes up against you. “Great. Oh…” Her eyes widen. “Do you think that aroma from our fun will air out till we get back to town?”
You grin. “Probably not. But who cares. Let the others watch on in envy…if they must.” You place your arm around her again and pull her close. “All I care about is spending time with the mare that has made this one wonderful day.”
She leans against you and sighs. “And it’s not over yet, right?”
“Nope. Come on, it’s nap time.”
Stellar kindly folds up the blanket, allowing you to tuck it onto the basket. Hoisting it in your left hand, you place your right hand along Stellar. Slowly, the two of you make your way back to Ponyville, bound for your place.
A Delightful Change of Plans
4th Plan - "An Evening for New Plans"
Slowly, you begin to stir. There’s a calming silence in your bedroom; the only sounds are from you and Stellar Flare’s breathing. You smile as you open your eyes. Stellar is nestled against you and her muzzle is buried close to your chest, almost like she’s cold. She moves a little closer to you, allowing her velvety orange fur to brush against your arms.
Securing your grip around her, you make sure not to disturb her, while resting your cheek along her silky mane. You still feel that drowsy feeling as you let your eyes drift shut. The veil of sleep seems to have you in its grip, but then, you notice a gentle prodding along your shoulder.
“Huh?” You murmur still half asleep.
“Relax. It’s only me.”
You open your eyes and see Stellar there, staring affectionately at you. She’s running her hoof along your arm and shoulder. Turning your head, you glance around the room, then look at her. “That’s right. We came back to my place for a little nap.” You reach out and play with a lock of her mane.
“Mm-hmm. We did.”
“Were we out long?” You try to locate your alarm clock, but still are a bit disoriented.
Stellar chuckles. “It’s only a little after five. We only napped for about two hours.”
“Oh, good. I wasn’t sure how long it had been.” You smile and move your hand to rub her cheek. “It was very relaxing with you resting at my side.”
“Mmm, I should hope so.” She rubs her hind leg along your leg. “I know I was relaxed, especially after that wonderful time we shared in the bushes.”
“Yeah. It was amazing.” You just lay there and stare into her eyes, while continuing to play mindlessly with a lock of her reddish hair. “I could just lay here, right like this.”
Stellar runs her hoof along your side and stares back just as affectionately. “So could I.”
It’s then that you notice Stellar’s breath pool gently along your face. She’s so close, and you can’t help but enjoy it. Placing your hand on her shoulder, you lean in to kiss her. She lets out a short muffled gasp, then moves her hoof to your shoulder and pushes her lips against yours.
You breathe through your nose and Stellar does the same as you both savor the kiss for just a few more moments. Then, slowly you both pull back. She’s giving you the same giddy expression that you have on your face.
You sigh contently and just gaze at Stellar. “Well, I guess we should think about what we’d like to do this evening.”
“Yeah.” Stellar looks back at the clock. “Hmm, I know. Why don’t we go out for dinner? I’m sure you know plenty of good places around here.” She smiles at you and caresses your cheek.
Your face lights up. “Yeah, I’d like that. Hmm, good place? Let me think.” You place a hand to your chin. “Oh, I know of a few places. There’s the café we had tea at. Um, Ponyville Family Restaurant, Vinny’s, and if you'd like a quick bite, Hay Burger. Any of those sounds good to you?” Reaching out you resume stroking her mane.
Stellar takes a moment to ponder and sighs from your caring touch. Then, she looks back at you. “Hmm, Vinny’s, would that be a place you can get Britalian food?”
“Oh yes, a real taste of Bridaly. They have plenty of authentic dishes there, including a variety of pastas, like Spaghetti, Fettuccine Alfredo, and a few different Parmesan dishes. Oh and of course simpler things like subs and pizza.” You smile at her.
Stellar’s face lights up. “Oh, pizza. I haven’t had that in some time. How is theirs?”
You hold up a hand. “It’s simply amazing. If you like pizza, I’m sure you’d enjoy it.”
“All right then. You’ve convinced me. Why don’t we go there for dinner?” Stellar gives you a short smooch.
You move apart from her and sit up. “Sounds good to me. All I need to do is put on my shoes. Oh, how’s my hair?”
She slides over to you and runs her hoof along it. “Still looks good as far as I’m concerned. And mine?” She fluffs her coiffure.
“Equally lovely. Huh, I’m surprised. It hasn’t really gotten all that mused.” You run you hand along it.
“Yes well, I take pride in the care I give my mane. Now, then, shall we?” Stellar looks at you still all smiles.
You put on your shoes and rise to your feet. She joins you and offers you her hoof. You return her smile as you clasp it gently in your hand. “Come, my lady. Dinner awaits.”
Stellar giggles as the two of you leave your room and then exit your house, heading back out into Ponyville.
* * * * * *
The sun is slowly setting as you and Stellar Flare make your way to Vinny’s. She is walking very close to you, allowing you to place a hand on her back. Glancing around, you know exactly where you are. “We’re almost there.”
“Good. I’m so glad you know your way around. Because there isn’t much that looks too familiar to me.” Stellar pans her head around as she takes in the sights of Ponyville’s busy streets. “Yeah, I still feel out of place.”
Your rub your hand along her side. “That’s okay. I can help you with that.”
“Wait, I know that road. Doesn’t that lead to the castle?” She looks at you full of wonder.
“Yes, at least you know one area.” You smile.
“Thanks to you showing me around. And I’ll be glad once we get there. I’m really hungry.” She chuckles placing a hoof over her mouth.
You look her way still all smiles. “Same here. Ah, it’s just up ahead. One more street to go.”
A chilly evening breeze begins to blow, making Stellar walk closer to you. So close in fact, she’s partially leaning against you. “Brrr, sorry about that, but the air is really getting chilly.”
You chuckle softly and place your arm around her. Running your hand along her velvety barrel, you just sigh. “That’s all right, Stellar. There is a raw nip in the air. Just stay close. I’ll keep you warm.”
“Mmm, thank you.” Stellar sighs happily.
“Of course. Ah, we’re here.”
Stellar looks up and joins you at looking at Vinny’s sizable restaurant. “No sign of anypony outside, is that good?”
“It’s very good. We’re still a bit early, but there should be a few customers inside…easily.” You pat her side as you walk toward the door together.
* * * * * *
You enjoy another stringy cheesy bite of the pizza. It’s crisp and flaky crust has the perfect buttery flavor and a mild but savory tomato sauce with just a hint of garlic. “Mmm.” You set the still very warm slice of pizza down.
Stellar giggles as she takes another bite from her first slice. “Oh this is one of the best pizzas I’ve had in…well, it feels like ages.”
“Where was the best?” You ask, before taking a sip of your soda.
Stellar sips from her soda, then she replies, “Let me think? Ah, yes. The best was in Manehatten, a restaurant called Gallopbaldi’s.” She sits there for a moment and just stares at you adoringly. “I think you’d like it. Their food really offers a great taste of Bridaly. Much like this place.”
You smile over at Stellar and give her an equally affectionate gaze. “It sounds like it. You know, I’ve never been to Manehatten.”
“Well, I’m there fairly often.” Stellar nods, then gives you another fond glance. “Back home, I’m in charge of the Sire’s Hallow Development Committee. Which requires frequent trips to Manehatten to coordinate with the Equestria Development Office.”
“And let me guess.” You grin. “Gallopbaldi’s isn’t far from the office.”
“That’s right.” She giggles. “So I stop by every chance I get. They have a very varied menu with so many delightful dishes to chose from.”
“Stop it, Stellar. You’re making me even hungrier and this awesome pizza is right here in front of us.” You snicker as you reach over and pat her hoof, which like her gaze is resting lazily in your direction.
She just closes her eyes briefly and chuckles. “Then, you’ll have to make a plan to go to Manehatten.”
You nod as you begin to rub your fingers along the soft off-white fur of her hoof. “Definitely…ooh, which reminds me. I know your visit with Sunburst didn’t go as planned, but I was wondering. How long are you planning to stay in Ponyville?”
Stellar looks down at your hand and then back at you. “Originally, I was planning on staying a day or two. I figured Sunburst would have helped me find someplace to stay. But, since that fell through. I don’t know.” She tilts her head. “Though, if you’re having as good a time as I’ve been since we met up at the bridge…I could probably stay a while longer…say the rest of the week?”
Your face brightens as you continue petting her lovely hoof. “This has been a really great day, despite the way it began. So, yeah, I’d certainly enjoy it if you stayed.”
“Splendid…oh.” Her ears droop and her face falls a little. “But, I have no place to stay.”
You clasp your hand around her hoof and give her a cheerful look. “Yes you do. You can stay with me. I can always sleep on the couch…or if you’d like…”
Stellar grins and places her other hoof on top of your hand. “We could share your bed?”
You chuckle and smile. “Exactly. You’ve seen firsthoof that it’s roomy and comfy.”
“I have. So, I do have a place to stay.” She rubs her hoof along your hand in the same attentive way as you.
“You bet. Now, why don’t we enjoy more of this tasty pizza?” You gaze at her half-lidded.
Stellar gives you her bedroom eyes. “I’d love to.”
She releases your hand and you release her hoof, allowing you both to reclaim your still rather warm slices. Holding up your slice, Stellar does the same with hers. “Dig in.” You grin and take a nice bite.
Stellar chuckles, then she too takes a sizable chomp out of her slice as the two of you resume devouring your pizza. Before long, the two of you move on to a second and even a third slice.
Two lone slices remain on the serving pan as you and Stellar each sit back. “Mmm, that was good.” You snicker.
“Yeah…I’m nice and full…but thankfully, not stuffed.” She rubs her belly, then takes a sip from her glass.
“Same here.” You place your hand over your mouth and muffle a belch. “Excuse me. Ah, the sign of a good meal.”
Stellar just giggles, while she looks your way. “Just like you said to me at our picnic earlier today.” She speaks your name dreamily. “You’re a breath of fresh air.”
You reach back over to her side of the table and meet her hoof, which Stellar already placed back on the table. The fond look remains in her eyes. “I’m glad you’re staying in town. Uh, are you about ready to head out?”
She nods. “Mm-hmm, I am.”
You just grin as you reach for the check and fish out some bits. The waitress returns. “How are you two doing.” She eyes up your table. “I see the pizza was a hit.”
“Yep.” You grin. “Vinny and his cooks sure know their pizza.”
The waitress giggles. “They certainly do. Did you want me to run that up to the register for you?”
“Please.” You hand her the check and bits. “Oh, and could we have a box for the leftovers, please?”
“Why of course. Let me just take care of this for you.” She smiles as she takes the bill and the money from you.
“Oh.” You tap her shoulder. “I don’t need any change.” You smile at her.
She nods and winks at you. “Got it. And thank you. I’ll be right back.” The waitress trots airily away, and even sounded like she was humming on her way to the checkout counter.
“That should make her day.” You smile, watching the waitress continue trotting along. Then, you turn back to Stellar.
“I trust you gave her a nice gratuity.” Stellar smiles.
“Just like I always do.” You chuckle. “It’s like I learned. You take care of your waitress or bartender and they will take care of you.”
The unicorn’s smile grows as she partially closes her eyes. “I was right. You do have a plan.”
“Most of the time.” You laugh as you pat her hoof again.
* * * * * * *
After the waitress boxes up your leftovers, you and Stellar leave Vinny’s and return to the chilly evening air of Ponyville.
“Brrr. It’s still rather cool this evening. Did you want to head back to my place and get the jacket you packed?”
Stellar shakes her head and walks closer to you. “That’s all right. I’ll just stay close to you.”
You place your arm around her and pull her close. “Now that’s a plan we can both enjoy.”
Stellar just giggles as the two of you walk around in no particular direction. “So, what would you like to do now?”
“I’m not sure. The evening is just ending and the night is just beginning. Hmm. We could go dancing somewhere, or stop for a drink…or, wait. I know it’s chilly, but are you a fan of milkshakes?”
Stellar looks your way and grins. “Are you kidding? I love them. Ooh, are you a fan of whipped cream?”
“On my milkshake with a cherry on top?” You turn her way and share her joyful gaze.
She nods. “Of course…is there any other way to enjoy a milkshake?”
“Not as far as I’m concerned. How are you on flavors?” You tilt your head her way.
“Like I was earlier today…flexible.” She chuckles as she leans against you a little more.
“Same here. So let’s head to Sugar Cube Corner.”
“Mom?” You suddenly hear the familiar voice of Sunburst call out. “There you are!”
You and Stellar both stop and turn around to see Sunburst and oddly enough, Starlight Glimmer standing there. The two unicorns trot over to you.
“Oh, Sunburst, what are you doing here?” She gives him a puzzled look.
He points her way. “Looking for you.” Sunburst pushes up his glasses and sighs. “I wanted to apologize. After we decided to call it a day, Princess Twilight spoke with me…well; she actually lectured me about how poorly I acted. Heh, heh…and she was right.”
She places a hoof over her heart and smiles. “I appreciate that, Sunburst.”
“Yeah, I hope I didn’t ruin your day too badly.” He chuckles nervously.
“Don’t worry, I’ve managed to have a really good day.” Stellar holds up a hoof and points to you. “He’s kept me company and showed me around town. We even got to enjoy the warm weather earlier today.”
“Uh, that’s great, mom. Say, did you want to hang out…maybe give me a chance to make it up to you?”
“Oh.” Stellar pauses, then looks at you. “I kind of have plans.”
“Okay, we know why you’re here Sunburst, but Starlight…why are you here?” You turn to Starlight.
She grins nervously and kicks a hoof along the ground. “Yeah, about that. Well, I felt really bad about brushing you off. So, I came to apologize, again and see if you wanted to do anything right now. Like Sunburst said, Twilight had us call it a day.” Starlight gives you a hopeful smile.
“Oh, I see.” You grin a little nervously. “Well, I’d like to.” You look at Stellar. “But I kind of have plans.”
Her face falls and her ears droop. “Oh, I see.”
“Now wait a second, you two.” Stellar turns your way. “What do you think? Should we ask them to join us?”
You look her in the eye and smile. “Sure, I don’t have a problem with it.”
Starlight perks up and blinks at you curiously. “Join you two where?”
“Sugar Cube Corner.” You smile.
“We’re going for milkshakes!” Stellar says in a singsong voice.
“Ooh, you know I love a good frosty milkshake.” Starlight’s face lights up.
“Then, join us.” You give her a joyful smile, before turning to Sunburst. “How about you?”
“Yeah, why don’t you join us too, son?”
“Hmm, milkshakes. Sure, I haven’t had any ice cream for a while.” He chuckles as the four of you begin walking toward Sugar Cube Corner.
You’re walking along with Stellar and still have your arm around her, completely forgetting the fact that Sunburst and Starlight are with you. It suddenly dawns on you as you look over at Stellar. She realizes it too, and blushes a little.
“Say.” Sunburst adjusts his glasses again. “Why are you two walking so close together? And have you both been out all evening?”
You chuckle and figure there’s no point in lying. “Yes, we have. Right, Stellar?”
She nods, as she looks Sunburst’s way. “That’s right, dear. We just had dinner and now we’re going to have dessert with the two of you.”
Starlight walks a little closer to Sunburst, after she gave you and Stellar a thorough look. “I don’t know. It looks like these two are on a date…if you ask me.” She giggles as she trots on ahead of you.
Sunburst continues along and smiles for a moment. “That’s nice…wait, a date?” He turns to look at you and his mother. “Mom?”
“Starlight is right, dear. He and I are out on date.” She giggles as the two of you walk past Sunburst.
You turn as you both pass. “That’s right. And it’s been a wonderful evening.”
“That’s nice…WHAT?!” Sunburst gallops after you two and Starlight. “Wait up! Mom, what do you mean you two are on a date? When did this happen?”
The two of you just chuckle as you follow Starlight to the sweet shop, happily ignoring Sunburst as he continues to ask a slew of questions.
“Mom? Are you listening to me? I asked you something…mom?”
Starlight just giggles as you and Stellar join her in heading inside Sugar Cube Corner followed by a baffled Sunburst.

I hope you all enjoyed Stellar's story. This was just an idea that came to me after watching "The Parent Map" at least a dozen times. Like I had mentioned in my notes on the summary page, there just don't seem to be a lot of stories about her, least of all human x Stellar Flare.
I have some other ideas outlined for Stellar that can continue this storyline in a sequel quite easily. But, the question is how soon. If you want more of Stellar, be sure to leave a comment or feel free to send a PM. Thank you all for reading!
