Night of a New Moon

Grabbing a light breakfast I took my bags and went to the guard side of the school thank the gods none of the guards at the school know who I was. Entering the large indoor field I spot Scoots sitting on the bleachers. Going over to her I put my bags down.

"So this is the trainin' field?" I say getting her attention.

"Sup Moon." She says. "Yea now we just have to what till the sergeant's show up."

No sooner she said that two ponies in uniforms came to the field.

"All right recruits grab your stuff and get changed!" A white unicorn mare with gold eyes mane/tail yells.

I grab my bag and walk over to the sergeant.

"Ma'am Moon Rune reportin'." I say giving her a salute.

"Your the transfer that we got told about. Well I'm sergeant Dawn Chaser and the mare still in her office is sergeant Fort Night. For the next year and a half you will be under our watch. Go and get changed after we get the others on task we are going to have you run some drills so we can see what you've got." Sgt Chaser tells me

Going to the locker room Scroll pushes past me. I pull out my gear and turn my back to Scoots so we can change. After changing I start putting my armor on.

"Um...Moon could you help me with my armor I still have trouble getting into it?" Scoots ask with light blush.

"Yea just let me strap my chest plate on." Once on I move over to her and walk her through steps to help make it easier. "Put your arms out this chest armor is your size but a pain ta put on by yourself." She dose as I ask as I strap it in place. I place and hook the shoulders down. I walk her through the arms using mine as examples.

"Thanks" She says strapping her swords to her belt.

"All good" I tell her as I strap my knives in place. "But I have two questions for ya?" I ask checking her armor before we head out.

"Go for it" She says.

"First one did ya design your uniform or did Sweetie?" I ask pulling some of the fabric that's hanging loose on her uniform.

"I chose the colors she designed the rest why?" She looks at her self in the mirror.

"I'll answer that after my other question. I still have metal, I can have armor forged ta ya and your fightin' style and ready by thursday." I tell her as she stops walking.

"Y-you would do that for me?" She stutters out.

I nod "I can and I will with weapons if that's what ya want. As for the uniform I would need ta sit down with Sweetie. What she made would be good for out of armor but in armor its ta loss. So ya need a new one. No offense ta ya or her."

She hugs me. "Yes a hundred times yes that would be so awesome! By the way I think you armor and uniform looks bad flank."

I quickly put my hood up to hide my blush. "Thanks. Lets go I have talk to the sgt's." She nods and we leave the locker room.

We make are way out to the field I look at all the different styles of armor and weapons. Then I spot the bitch I'm going to put in her place at some point today. One of her friends points me out to her. The Instructors go over what the others are going to be doing. When they get done Sgt Fort Night walks up to me. Shes a black thestral mare with yellow eyes and dark blue mane/tail.

"Moon Rune yes?" I nod "Good, Chaser told me she talked to you some but I'm going to go over some more just to be on the safe side. Normally you would have started with a partner from year one up to now. I would see about finding a group later. Groups can be 4 to 5 ponies in each. Now lets get you doing some drills to test you." Sgt Night says

We start walking to sgt Chaser till Scroll and a yellow unicorn filly walks up to use.

"You I challenge you to a one on one duel Moon Rune." Scroll said.

I look at her. "Why not I can put ya in your place."

Sgt Night claps her hands. "All right evrypony looks like we have a duel today." She says making her way to the center of the training field "Ok you two. Once your on the field you can duel I'll be the judge for this mach. The duel will end when one of you cant continue or surrenders."

As Scroll and her partner walk to the field I unhook my knives from my belt. "Scoots can ya hold my knives I wont need them for this I'm goin' ta end this fast." She nods as I hand them to her.

"Your over estimating yourself commoner. Your going to wish you had keep your weapons." Scroll says mockingly.

I make my way to the field looking at Scrolls equipment. She has what looks like a set of guards armor but sliver. She has a shield and broadsword.

"Moon are you ready?" Sgt Night asks I nod. "Scroll are you ready?" Scroll says 'ready' as she takes her stance "On my mark."

"Ready"

I stand relaxed and bounce on my hooves.

"Set"

I watch Scroll tense up and ignite her horn.

"Go!"

Fort Night POV

The moment I said go Scroll Work sent a fire ball spell at Moon Rune. Moon Rune smiles just as the fire ball is about to hit her and hops backwards. When her hoof touched the ground she disappears in a blur. 'How did she do that?' I think as looking around for her. I look over to Scroll Work looking for her opponent just as Moon Rune reappears behind her. I watch as Moon Rune kicks the side of Scroll Work's helmet just at the moment she turns. With a loud clang sound Moon Rune sends Scroll Work's helmet flying and her face first into the floor.

I walk over to the downed filly finding her unconscious. "That's the duel winner Moon Rune by knock out!"

Moon POV

With the duel over the Sgt Night got Scroll awake. They ran me through a number of drills. The time it took finish all the drill the bell for lunch sounded. Me and Scoots got our lunch and found a table.

"Scoots? Do ya have a team in class?" I asked her.

"I did last year but she moved to a new school." She told me.

"Um... Would ya be my partner for class?" I asked nervously.

"You want me to be your partner way not one of the other teams? I mean I"m just a nopony that's not good at a-"

I put my hand over her mouth cutting her off. "Don't....just don't. Your not a nopony, your Scootaloo. I rather have somepony like ya as a partner then somepony I don't know. So will ya be my partner?" I take my hand from her muzzle and hold it out for her.

She looks at me than with a smile takes my hand. "Yes I'll be your partner!"

We started going over designs for her armor and uniforms witch thanks to the two drills from class gave me a rough idea of how she fights. Just as we got done eating and back to what we are working a group in matching armor approach us.

Putting my notebook away I look to the group and what for them to speak.

Coughing in to her hand one finally starts to speak. "You 3rd years are at our table. You need to move."

We get up and I nod my head for Scoots to go first. After she did I followed behind her.

"Hay filly you forgot your trash." A colt told me.

I look over my shoulder to the group then give them a two finger insult as I walk away.

Meeting back up we go to the training field and finish working on her armor till class starts. When class started they had us all run laps, push ups, sit ups, wing ups for ponies with wing, and magic practice for the unicorns. With the last half of school over for the day the sgt's let use go after turning in any borrowed gear.

I had to support Scoots to go see Sweetie as she complained that the training was hard with all that extra weight. I tolled her that over time it would get easy but she would need to work on getting used to it. Getting to Sweetie's club we walked in and found some of the students from today's classes talking with club members. We found Sweetie with her team looking over some papers at there table.

Sitting Scoots in a chair I clear my throat to get there attention. "Yo hows the fashion world treatin' ya three today?"

"Hi, its going how was class for you two?" She looks at us "Ok you look fine. Scoots you look like your going to fall over at any point"

"*augh* You don't know the half of it Sweetie they ran us into the ground!" Scoots complained.

"I see that." She giggles.

"Anyway ya have time ta talk I wanted ta ask ya about Scoots uniform?" I tell her pulling out my note book.

Sweetie looks at me with a arced brow. "It looks good on her. Why?"

"I'm with ya on she looks good but its function in armor in a hazard." I say "I mean don't get me wrong ya do great work but her uniform is more along the lines of one for formal events not field use."

She thinks it over looking at Scoots uniform then mine. "Ok, I think I can see what your saying but I don't know what would suit her?"

I smile and show her the note book. "Then your in luck Scoots and I worked out two ideas but its up ta ya and your team on witch one ta make, if ya have the time? If ya cant I can take it ta the mare that made my uniform."

I give them time to talk it over. I watch as the look over the designs and looking at the materials they have in the class.

Sweetie comes back over to us. "We can make it but we don't have all the material on hand at this time, how much time do we have to make it?"

"Today and tomorrow. She needs it for class thersday. As for materials I can get ya a letter that will get them for ya."

She looks at her team seeing nod in approval. "Ok we can do it."

"Cool, let me pull the pages out then ya and me will go get the stuff needed." I tell her but she stops me before I can.

"I have a spell that can make a copy of the page so you don't have to rip it out just give me a second?" She grabs some blank paper and makes a copy with her spell.

Once her and her team pick a design and get started making a patterns for it we leave to get what she will need for them to work. Getting back to the dorms I take scoots to her room and tell her to rest. Me and sweetie go to the castle and down to the night guard smith. We ran into mist in the apartment I hand her a letter and have her take it to Luna and tell her if anypony needs me I'll be in the forge.

When we get to Irons forge we are greeted with the sound of hammer hitting metal. Entering I watch as Sweetie turn bright red and covers her face stuttering at the sight before us. When we entered Iron what working away on some weapons I asked her to make for me. But unlike her normal outfit thanks to the heat from dragon fire. She is in a tank top and short shorts with her smithing apron making it look like she was working naked.

Waiting for her to put the blades in the fire. "Yo iron ya perv ya think its ok ta work naked!?" I call her smirking.

"What?" Is all she says be for looking at us. "Oh hows it going Moon, and for your information my not naked your like the fifth pony to say that today."

I laugh and point to Sweetie "I know that I saw ya leave the apartment this mornin' but she and others don't."

She shrugs. "Ok fare point. So how can I help you two?"

"Sweetie Belle is makin' a uniform for a friend of ours and she needs some stuff I told her I would get it for her." I walk over to her work bench and Sweetie shows her the list of stuff needed.

"Ok I'll show you to the back room, take what you need I can get more easy." She leads her to the back room before going back to the forge "So this sword is the last one for the project you gave me and I have to ask, the knife and this sward, armor and uniform you asked me to make they are for Mist arn't they?"

"Yea they are. But ya cant tell her that's my job." I say calling her over "By the way I got somethin' for ya ta work on after if your done with this?"

She gives me a quizzical look "Ok... but can you tell me why you had this stuff made for Mist?"

Sighing I look at Mist's new outfit on the armor stand. "I can but ya cant tell her." She nods and I lean in so nopony hears "Luna asked me ta start up a squad. I'm planing on asking Mist ta join. I'll still give this ta her either way." Shes about to say something but Sweetie comes back with the things she needs. "I'll talk ta ya later." I wave as me and sweetie leave

After getting Sweetie back to the school I stayed at the castle to work one Scoots armor. Leaving the apartment Mist found me and said Luna wished to see me. Going to Luna's office I made good time with the fact it was on the was to the forge.

'Knock Knock'

"Enter!" Luna called from the other side of the door.

"Ya wished ta see me?"

Looking up from her stack of paper work. "Yes my dear I did. I took a look at you proposal and I will approve but I have some conditions." She told me pulling out some folders.

Leaning on the wall I look at the pile of folder on her desk. "And that would be?"

She took a scroll from her desk and levitated it to me. "First I would like you to look in to expanding the unit you wish to create. Two what ever training you will give them must be less life threatening then what you undertook. Three you need a name for the unit. Four you need at least one trial run with a guard before I fully support your unit as part of my guard."

Looking over the conditions 'This could work I just need ta see about trainin' one guard ta show it can work.' I think before looking up. "Ok I can do that. I have a guard in mind for the test run."

"You do?"

Nodding "I do. I was goin' ta ask Mist if she would be interested. Then look inta a unicone, another flyer, and two earth thestrols ta round out the unit."

She looks at me before smiling. "I see you thought ahead. Then I will have the training room build in the lunar wing and done before this weekend. I wish you luck my dear."

Gathering the folder I head to the door before looking back. "Will do mum."

Making a quick trip to my room to drop the folders off I then go to the forge. At the forge I go over my armor plans for Scoots with Iron. We layout the start of the armor pulling all the metal out we will need. Iron started the ground work for the armor and I used a small side forge to start on the swords. We stop a hour before the end of Mist's shift taking her new armor, weapons, and uniform home with us.

When we got home we found her out of uniform and cooking dinner. She stopped setting the table and looked at us surprised. "Um... your home early?" She gives us a nervous chuckle.

"Aye we are. Before ya ask your not in trouble." I say grabbing her hand and leading her to the living room.

She looks at Iron who is pushing her forward. "You'll love it I promise." Iron reassures her.

"Ok whats with the covered armor stand?" She asks as we lead her over to it.

"Close your eyes and don't open them till we say." We move the stand in front of her and take the cover off.

"Open your eyes." Iron and I say.

We watch her open her eyes as they grow to the size of a dinner plate and her jaw drops. I walk over and push her forward to the armor stand.

Smirking I step beside her and hand her a pin "Congratulations First Lieutenant." I chuckle.

She stops looks and me then the 1st Lt. pin then the armor the proceeds to pass out from all the excitement. Me and Iron move her to the couch the get some food and eat in the living room. When Mist wakes up she is still vary much in shock but eats the plate of food given to her. Finally somewhat back to normal after eating Mist starts asking questions.

"So I got a promotion for doin' what exactly?" She asks scratching her head.

"Ya are goin' ta be gettin' trainin' from me every other day. I am puttin' together a new unit but Luna wishes for me ta show her that I can train them for the job."

She looks at her new armor then to me. "And I'm goin' ta be that pony?"

I nod. "If ya wish ta be then yes. Even if ya decline ya keep your new rank and armor."

"Wow... I don't know what ta say?" She look over the armor and uniform before pulling out the sword and knife.

"Just think about it I can give ya till the weekend before ya give me a answer. So till then good night girls."
