Chapter 2: Magician Basics PT 1

Previous Chapter

“Okay Spike, the first thing you’re going to need to learn is how to conceal your magic” Twilight explained as Spike sat on his couch while watching her write on a whiteboard.

“Twilight, although I appreciate you wanting to teach me about magic or anything similar but I don’t really care about it, or wanna know anything about it” Spike replied before standing up and stretching.

“B-b-but it’s imperative that you learn how to be a magician! Otherwise you’ll be a target for anyone or anything who wants to use you f-for god knows what” Twilight responded as she shot her arms to her side.

“I’m sorry Twi I just don’t have the time” Spike said after signing. “Again I’m sorry, but I have to get going. Otherwise boss is gonna write me up, or worse fire me”

“F-f-fine! Don’t come to me when you need help!” Twilight shouted before leaving Spike’s house and slamming his front door. “Stupid idiot!”

=================================================

“So you and Twilight had a fight huh?” Sandbar asked as him, Spike and Gallus were on there way home.

“Yea, she wanted to teach me something that she insisted was important” Spike replied as he recalled what had happened the day before.

“Care to tell us what it was about?” Gallus requested as he walked on the wall of a bridge.

“No, not really” Spike replied after sighing. “Not that you two would believe me anyway...”

“Did she want to teach you how to drive a car?” Gallus nonchalantly asked, causing spike to flinch a bit before his expression turned into a grimace.

“Dude you know how he feels about getting in a car, let alone driving one!” Sandbar scolded.

“But it was two years ago! He needs to get over it” Gallus retorted while forgetting that Spike was behind the two.

“Tch and what the hell would you know Gallus?” Spike shouted before speed walking past the two and putting up his hood.

“What’s his problem?” Gallus retorted as Spike took up the pace.

“Not cool dude” Sandbar said as he jumped off of the wall.

“Seriously what would they know? What would anyone know?” Spike thought as he turned a corner before continuing his trek home.

=================================================

“Hey Mom, hey Dad, how’s everything been up there? Twi and I got into an argument yesterday” Spike thought as he placed some flowers in front of the metal pole that is now turned into a roadside memorial for his parents.

Spike stood in front of the memorial for a bit before wiping away some tears that were threatening to fall and heading back home.

“Spike...” Twilight thought as she watched her friend enter his house before quietly walking up to the door and debating whether or not to knock or not.

As Twilight quietly stood in front of Spike’s door she started hearing something slither up to her before letting out a growl that sounded like a mix between a snake’s hiss and an elephant’s roar. Twilight didn’t have any time to react before being thrown out of the way by the beast who then smashed through the front of Spike’s house and making him jump from another room at the sudden sound.

“The hell?” Spike muttered before entering the front room only to see a massive medium stone gray serpentine creature with a head that looked like a cross between an elephant’s and a snake’s head that had orange eyes; there seemed to be two elephant tusks jutting forward, two more tusks facing downward along with a long trunk and a forked tongue.

The creature let out another low growl/hiss before grabbing Spike with its trunk, squeezing tightly and eliciting a scream of agony from it’s captive.

“Ow, ow Spike?...Spike!” Twilight called as she heard her friend’s pained screams from his house and saw a large elephant sized hole in Spike’s house.

After getting to her feat Twilight made her way over to her friend’s house only to see the creature squeezing Spike tighter.

“N-no way...a Grootslang? Why is one here?” Twilight thought as the only thing she could do was watch her friend be squeezed to death by a South African monster.

“Honestly I gave him an eighth of my magic and then he has the audacity to be captured by a mere nineteenth generation Grootslang? Give me a break” Twilight heard a familiar voice say before turning around to see the same girl from before but now with storm cloud gray wings with electric blue tips on the feathers.

“Y-you what are you doing here?” Twilight asked the now winged girl.

“Well I just wanted to see how Spike is doing with his reward, but I guess he has yet realize what he can do” The girl explained after sighing. “I guess I’m just gonna have to tell him to use his powers”

“H-how? I doubt that Grootslang is just gonna let you walk up to him” Twilight frantically asked before seeing the girl smirk.

“Through telepathy of coarse!” The girl replied before closing her eyes. “Yo Spike! Are you seriously gonna lose to some snake? Hmpf!

It hurts, it...huh? Who’s there?” Spike asked before opening his eyes to see nothing but pitch black and the girl from before standing in front of him with her hands on her hips.

It’s me Spike, so why are you letting this snake overpower you?” The girl asked. “And I even copied my powers and gave them to you so this is how you repay me? Pathetic!”

B-but ‘ow’ what can I do against a monster?” Spike questioned as he lowered his head.

Tch you’re giving up even though you have the power of an S-rank magician that you got from a goddess? Is this what Twilight or your parents would of wanted?” The girl asked before approaching Spike. “Listen here Spike! I didn’t just give you magic as a reward for saving me I gave you magic because you’re of pure heart!

What are you talking about? I’m a bother to oth-” Spike started before being slapped by the girl who was communicating to him via his thoughts.

If you’re really a ‘bother’ to others then why am I trying to get you to recognize your true potential? Why the hell would Twilight want to teach you how to be a magician if you’re a ‘bother’?” The girl questioned, causing Spike to look up at her.

Meanwhile back in reality Twilight was trying her best to get the Grootslang to release her friend who appeared to have gone limp as the beast was moving Spike towards its mouth.

“Don’t just stand there! Do something!” Twilight pleaded before the girl’s eyes opened.

“Heh it’s alright Twilight, but you might want to get out of the way” The girl suggested before Twilight saw a bright light come from Spike and immediately moved out of the way.

The next thing that happened was the sound of a thunderclap coming from Spike’s house along with a bright flash of light and a pained roar.

“S-Spike?” Twilight asked right as the Grootslang got shot out of Spikes house and was now missing it’s trunk.

“Not only do you have the nerve to wreck my house but you also hurt my best friend...” Spike said after emerging from his house with his hair a similar coloration to the girl’s hair with what seemed to be electricity rolling off of him. “I’m gonna make you pay!” Spike shouted before lifting his leg like he was gonna take a step and stomping it on the ground.

When Spike stomped his foot it caused a wave effect on the ground which in turn created a pillar of stone that shot the Grootslang high into the air before Spike brought an arm into the air; he then shot the arm down right before the Grootslang was also sent back down to the ground.

The Grootslang let out a more pained grunt before rolling onto it’s stomach, reared up like it was about to strike, however before it could a massive lightning bolt rained down from the sky, striking the beast and finally killing it.

“S-Spike?” Twilight asked after watching the fight between an S-class monster and her best friend as the now dead Grootslang disappeared.

“Heh, sorry I made you worry Twi” Spike replied as his hair turned back to normal. “Oh and thanks as well”

“Hmpf! I just wanted to see how you were using my gift but good work...for a rookie” The girl replied. “But alas I need to get going, so bye bye” She added before she surrounded herself in storm clouds and transforming into the same bird that Spike had saved two nights ago.

“Huh? Wait a minute you’re that bird I saved?!” Spike asked in shock and confusion upon seeing the winged girl had now turned into a bird.

“You mean that stuff about being a goddess wasn’t a lie?” Twilight questioned before realizing that not only had she met a real goddess but had also thrown her against a wall and began frantically apologizing. “Oh my god I’m so sorry! Please forgive me!”

“Heh all is forgiven” The goddess replied before trying to fly away only to lift a couple of inches into the air and fall flat on her face. “Um...it appears that my magic is not completely back yet...”

“Let me guess you need someplace to stay so you can fully regain your magic?” Spike asked after sighing and holding in a chuckle.

“M-maybe...but it can’t be your house for well obvious reasons” The goddess explained.

“Oh...right...my house has a giant ass hole in it...” Spike muttered after the realization hit.

“Eh don’t worry about it Spike, I’ll just use a spell to fix it” Twilight explained nonchalantly before bowing her head “I’m sorry as well!”

“Uh for what?” Spike asked as he was now confused.

“Jeez, isn’t it obvious? She’s sorry because she tried to force you into the world of magicians with or without your say. Ain’t that right Twilight?” The goddess asked before Twilight became flustered.

“Y-yea, sorry Spike...I-I just w-wanted-” Twilight started muttering with her head down before she felt Spike’s hand rest on her head.

“Listen I realized that you were only trying to protect me so um would you mind teaching me the basics?” Spike asked as his cheeks turned a shade of rose.

“Yes! I’d-” Twilight started after lifting her head only to be cut off by the goddess.

“Ugh just kiss already!” The goddess exclaimed before making a puking motion with her hand. “Seriously, you two are acting like you’re in a relationship!” She added which caused both Spike and Twilight to go beet red.

“W-w-w-we’re not dating!” Spike and Twilight both denied as the goddess simply yawned.

“Well keep telling yourselves that. So then when are you going to fix Spike’s house?” The goddess asked with a hint of annoyance in her voice.

“Oh right! Hold on this will take a few minutes” Twilight replied as she stepped towards Spike’s house and began chanting as a violet light emerged from her hands.

“So then um?” Spike started to ask the goddess only to realize that he doesn’t know her name. “Uh what is your name anyway?”

“Oh uh no I don’t...most Thunderbird Deities don’t have names unless for the one in a trillion chance of a Magician summoning one as a familiar. Hell it’s already rare for one to get an A-rank familiar, let alone an S-rank familiar” The goddess explained as he expression saddened. “I’ve been around for eight hundred years and not once have I became a familiar”

“Oh so you’ve been all alone for all those years huh?” Spike commented. “Must of been lonely”

“Yea, it was...until you saved me from that hellhound so please be become my contractor and give me a name!” The goddess pleaded which caused Twilight to stop chanting a spell.

“U-um I didn’t hear that quite right, what exactly d-did you ask him?” Twilight asked after suddenly turning around.

“I want Spike here to give me a name and become my contractor” The goddess explained.

“Impossible, he may have the magic of an S-rank magician but as far as I know only one person in recorded history has been able to Summon an S-rank familiar!” Twilight retorted before giving the goddess a smug look.

“Well actually as far as I know there’s been at least three magicians who’ve successfully made contracts with S-rank familiars” The goddess clarified. “Besides I know Spike can do it! After all he’s already as strong as an S-rank magician.”

“That may be true but there still needs to be at least one B-rank certified magician supervising the contract formation” Twilight pridefully explained whilst thinking that she had won.

“Well then when Spike gets enrolled Magician Academy, have one of the B-rank staff members oversee the contract formation so there shouldn’t be a problem then, right?” The goddess retorted with a smug look of her own.

“Wait how do you know about the school I go to?” Twilight questioned.

“Easy, when I gave Spike a bit of my magic I also looked into his memories, that’s how I knew he is of pure heart” The goddess explained.

“Aw...oh right your house!” Twilight exclaimed before going back to chanting.

Five minutes later…

“Alright then, your house is fixed! So prepare yourself because after school tomorrow I’m going to teach you the basics so you can enroll!” Twilight proclaimed. “So get a good night’s rest!

“Thanks Twi, see you tomorrow” Spike replied.

“Your welcome” Twilight responded before Spike and the goddess went inside of Spike’s house to find that it was back to the way it was before the Grootslang attacked. “Now then I should get my text books ready!” Twilight thought before heading back to her house.
