Reconciliation: National Security, Part 5 (S3 E23)

After persuading Starlight to not crush her like a bug, Twilight was able to convince Starlight that they should discuss things involving her getting at least some power back as far as running the country goes. As they headed back to Canterlot, Starlight wasn't exactly in that good of a mood but Twilight had a sense of hope. She thought that with the threat of losing her father's favor, that Starlight would be more flexible. She also had hopes for another thing, something that caused them to bond so much for so long, sisterly bonding.

When they got back to the castle, the two headed to what became Starlight's side of the palace. When they got to the throne room, they would be greeted by a nervous pair of daughters. "Mom," Toolaroola questioned "what is she doing here?"

Coconut Cream looked towards Twilight and added, "You better not hurt us or mom will crush you."

Twilight could understand why the two would not trust her and rather than getting mad, she was more understanding, "Girls, I'm not going to hurt you and I'm sorry for what I did in the past."

Starlight added, "Actually, Twilight and I are going to discuss her coming back and the roles that she will take on."

Toola sighed, "Alright but Coconut and I are staying here. We don't trust her to be with you alone."

Twilight let out a sigh not of frustration but of sadness. Another thing that she hoped that she could do is reconcile with the girls and hope that a day will come when they will call her mom again. While she knew that her and Starlight being close like they were in the past was unlikely, she knew that winning back their trust would be next to impossible.

Once the girls let it be known that they did not trust Twilight, Starlight decided that they should get things started, "Twilight, I know that you aren't happy with the way things have gone recently. I want to know something, assuming you do come back, what direction do you want to see Equestria go in?"

"Well for starters, I don't think we need a standing military. Like I said, friendship has always been our weapon. Even without the Elements, the Legion of Doom was defeated and in some instances, normal unicorn magic is not going to work. One thing you need to understand is that back when we were unicorns, we were rare. We were the exception, not the norm. One thing I have always thought is that to achieve our level of ability, we have to be born with it. It simply can't be taught."

Ever since they had been ascended, Starlight had begun to think that unicorns could learn powerful magic, she didn't think about how they had to be born with it. It then hit her that ponies like them are not just anomalies, but so rare that for a long time, none like them even existed. She then began to think about their lineage and how that could be the reason why the two had so much power. She replied, "You do make a point so I suppose we can handle things without a standing military."

Twilight continued, "And I do really think you need to apologize to the nation for your comments. You sounded like a unicorn supremacist up there. I think it would improve your image."

"I know, I know. Looking back at it I was pretty misguided."

Twilight continued, "Now you know how I felt about immigration when we first took over and I still feel the same way so that I will agree with you on."

Starlight replied, "Good, now with you coming back, we will need to divide duties up more evenly. One of us can't do all the duties while the other does nothing."

Twilight began, "Well I do have some ideas."

Starlight asked, "And what are those?"

"Well" Twilight continued, "I do think I should be in charge of the education system since that is sort of my thing, I think that I should be in charge of handing out marriage licenses, I think I should go back to raising and lowering the moon, I think I should handle things like diplomacy since I embrace friendship more." She paused before continuing, "And you can handle raising and lowering the sun, elections, you can handle the gentry and nobility since you hate them more, you can handle infrastructure, all economic issues" she paused before winking, "and the secret police. I do agree with you on that."

Starlight laughed, "Well I'm glad that somepony agrees with me on that although I think it would be great if we handled everything together, as equals."

Twilight added in one more thing, "I know you'll probably say no but there is one little thing I miss and while I know you'll likely say no, I'd love it if we could engage in sisterly bonding again."

Starlight remained quiet for a moment. She had been very angry with Twilight ever since the night she attacked Toolaroola but she did miss the sisterly bonding. She gave Twilight a smile and said, "If you disband your harem, I'm very open to it."

Twilight added, "No commitment though, I certainly don't want that."

Starlight giggled, "Oh don't worry about that sis, I'm over that. I just want us to buck like we used to."

Toolaroola and Coconut Cream could hardly believe what they were hearing. Here was the same pony, their mother, who was mad as hell at Twilight not that long ago wanting to engage in sisterly bonding with the pony that did so much wrong to them. Toola gasped, "Seriously mom, you want to engage in sisterly bonding with her again?"

Coconut added, "The same pony who injured Toola and imprisoned all of us?"

Starlight replied, "Girls, Twilight and I had another battle not that long ago and I think that is what caused both of us to realize that together we are stronger than we are divided, and thus Equestria is stronger too."

Twilight added, "Girls, I promise you I'll never pull what I did again. I just wish you would see me as your mother as much as you do Starlight."

The two huddled and began to talk with one another. The two talked for several minutes before Toola replied, "Alright Twilight, we'll see you as our mom again."

Coconut added, "As long as you don't injure us or try to do anything to Starlight."

Twilight replied, "Deal." She then turned to Starlight and asked, "Shall we renew our sisterly bond? Shall we go and do what we loved so much?"

Starlight laughed, "Let's go hot stuff, let's go do what it takes to make Equestria even better!"

The two put their wings around one another and held hooves as they headed back towards what would once again be their bedroom. As they headed back, both felt a sense of relief as all the stress that had been flowing between both of them was no more. Most of all though, the two looked forward to pleasing one another. What they both wondered was who would be the first to dominate the other.
