Author's Note

So, this is a story I've been thinking about doing for a while now, I'm not why but it kinda popped into my head in the fashion that FSTSS did, "Hey why not do a Flash Sentry Basketball fic? That'd be fun"

I'm not sure why and I'm not sure how Flash Sentry became the main character, (Maybe because I might kinda like him as a character for some reason but I'm not too sold on that) but I'm just gonna roll with it.

So, Basketball fics….. I have not seen that much on this website 🤣. But than again I haven't been on the site for that long so maybe I have to keep digging but I have seen no basketball fics on this site whatsoever and it kinda surprised me a little.

So with that I kinda decided to jump for an opportunity and maybe write this fic, I'm not sure how it will do but I'm gonna let time figure that one out for me.

(Disclamer: This is no way related to the FSTSS Universe and is just a fun little story by me, I have no idea how frequently I'll update it but hopefully on a weekly basis!)

Entry #146

"Night.....

"That's what it was, night! It's not a night I would exactly dub as anything significant but it is still just a night. The worst night I've ever had!

And trust me, I've had plenty of those but this, I'm not even sure if calling it the worst night of my life could tell you how much I hate this night!

I know I might sound like an ungrateful little shit but what's there not to be mad about right now, I've left San Francisco, my own hometown for some city I've never heard of in my life, Canterlot.

Ugh! The name alone makes it sound like a dull area, but my dad goes on and on about how great this place is, I know the guy is great and all but I'm not sure his sense on cities are exactly sharp......"

Flash Sentry, the fourteen year old who was rambling in his journal had finally ran out of words. Even the usual, pencil tap on the chin couldn't help him think of any new words, he was completely fresh out.

He let out a sigh, closing the leather covered journal and opening the glove box of his dad's car, a 2001 used Chevy Suburban. Closing the glovebox, he leaned back into the leather passenger seat and grabbed his phone out of his pocket.

His father, a lean muscular man with the same pale amber skin as Flash and curly blue hair, Stormbringer found himself chuckling, "Let me guess, you ran out of words again?"

"Yup!" said Flash, "It's the twelfth time today!"

"Well, maybe once we get to Canterlot City, you're whole writer instinct will comeback again and you'll be off to the races, heh."

Flash rolled his eyes, "Daad.." He moaned in annoyance.

"What?" Stormbringer chuckled, shrugging and trying to keep his attention on the highway, "I'm just trying to make this whole thing enjoyable for you, I mean it's no secret that your not as.... enthusiastic about moving than I am."

Flash sat upright, "Hey come on..." he said, "I know what you're trying to do is right but... I don't know man I'm not sure if... I'll ever be able to get used to any of this."

"Why's that?" Stormbringer asked in a nonchalant tone.

Flash shrugged, "Well I'm not sure I was ready to leave San Francisco and well.. all my friends there, especially just as a sudden move in the summer."

There was a moment of silence, Stormbringer took in everything his son said, he let out a sigh, "I know you really liked San Francisco and I took you into account of this move. But I just want you to understand the neighbourhood we lived in wasn't exactly safe for us and the ones your friends lived in were just way to expensive for me to pay for."

That was their biggest problem, money the item that in Flash's eyes, solidified your status in everything. I mean what can't money do, it buys you a good house, good food and it was the one item that made people look forward to a good future. But of course, Flash and his Father lacked that. For some reason, it seemed like all the odds were always stacked against Flash and his Father Stormbringer. Flash could remember being left alone at home while his Dad worked late shifts to bring food to the table and be able to feed him. He sometimes watched the man decline eating just for the sake of his son's wellbeing and it sometimes even broke his heart, like he was the biggest factor of his dad's struggles, but somehow it seemed he was wrong as his dad treated him like he was his biggest accomplishment.

"Yeah, yeah I get the picture." Flash glanced down, "But why Canterlot of all places? There are other cities that are probably just as safer, like Canada or something, but why a city in Equestria State?"

"Well... The city seemed and looked really safe, I heard their schools there are tremendous and it's quite diverse there!" He patted his son's shoulder, "Flash, this is an opportunity to meet new people and look to a better future, I know it'll take a while but I know you'll be just as enthusiastic about the city as I am, just give the place a chance."

Flash looked down for a moment, taking a deep breath and sighing out of his nostrils, "Okay", he said, "I'll give Canterlot City a chance." He found a tiny smirk forming on his mouth.

His dad smiled, "Ahhh! There it is! There's that smile I've been waiting for!" He patted him on the back, making Flash smirk even more before it became a full grin. "I'm telling you, you'll love it!" he glanced back at the windshield, directing his attention back to the road.

Flash looked out the window, gazing into the starry night, a detail he left out in his journal entry, obviously for the reason that he wasn't so onboard about the whole 'moving away' idea.

It was certainly a busy night, especially for people driving on the highway, en route to towards Canterlot City, the capital of the state of Equestria. Cars were moving ever so slowly on the asphalt road, making very little progress to their destinations. It made Flash wonder how his dad kept his cool driving, if it were him he'd probably bust out in anger and yell at the driver ahead of him.

The cars began to move again, this time at a more faster yet consistent rate, covering more ground than ever.

"Well would you look at that, it looks like were almost there!"

Flash's concentration on the night sky broke, he glanced at his dad for a second, then turning his direction towards the windshield, his eyes widened, they really were almost there.

A blue road sign stood just to the side of the highway, it read "Canterlot City, Population 746,892"

"Wow were really here!?" Flash thought in astonishment, "That one day felt like one hour!" But then it all sunk into Flash's head, they were really there, this was it, there new life in Canterlot, there next chapter, Flash gulped a lump in his throat formed, there really was no turning back....
