Getting Settled in

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

The black 2001 Suburban had traveled far, very far, almost 1.8 days worth of traveling and gas consumption, to finally arrive in Canterlot City.

The city itself looked alive, something Flash had doubted when he first heard about the city. The skyscrapers were beautiful, there were billboards, responsible for lighting up a lot of the city, advertising the newest products. Even a lot of people out and about in the city.

Flash sat there, wide eyed and watching in awe from the door window and windshield.

"Wow....This is--" he stopped his thought process for a moment, realizing that he was going gaga over a place that he'd only been to for thirty seconds.

But, what was there not to be in awe about, the city, even if Flash wouldn't publicly admit it, was beautiful. But even so, he still thought of San Francisco as the superior city. "What are you thinking?! You've just got here, you cant just like it because it looks nice"

"Alright, so what do you think?" asked Stormbringer, "Pretty cool, right?"

Flash was broken out of his observant trance, glancing at his father he shrugged, "Uh.. yeah it's cool I guess?"

"Ahhh, you'll get used to this place, pretty soon you'll be a pro San Francisco-advocate to a pro Canterlot-advocate"

Flash, at first glance had no idea what any of that meant, but he could try and grasp the gist of what his dad was saying. He'd most likely oppose to that comment but his dad could very well be right about him eventually liking the city, all's he had to do was give it a chance.

The car stopped at an intersection, the traffic light beaming red. "So, where exactly are the schools here?" Asked Flash.

His dad, tapped his fingertips on the steering wheel, blowing out some air from his mouth, trying to remember, "Well the school I want to send you is at midtown, so 30 minutes from here, most of the other schools are in uptown with a few here in the downtown area."

"Soo.... what's the school in midtown called?"

"Canterlot High!" said Stormbringer.

Flash's eyes narrowed, his eyelids lowered a little, "Wow, Canterlot High I wonder how long it took the city to think of that one!" Flash glanced at his dad, questioning the legitimacy of that name, "Is it really called... Canterlot High?"

His Dad chuckled, "Okay, so maybe the name sounds.....uncreative. But I'm telling you, it's a great school, a lot of friendly people!"

The traffic light changed colors from red to green, signalling all vehicles to drive forward. Flash continued asking the many questions that he could think of, "So...does this city have anything significant to it, like history or something?...Anything?!"

"Hmm...? Well the city is well-known for it's Astronomical breakthroughs and research, does that help?"

Flash nodded, "Well, it's a start, anything else?"

His Dad, licked his teeth, trying to think, "Well.....OH! Music!"

Flash arched an eyebrow, "Music?"

"Yeah Music! This city is pretty well known for their music culture, they've even hosted some of the best broadways in history there that good!"

Flash stroked his chin, "Hmph Music and Astronomy, those seem like the two most unrelated things don't you think?"

Stormbringer briefly shrugged, "Hey you could make the argument that Fog City and Golden Gate City sound like two unrelated things can't you?"

Flash's eyes widened, he tried to think of a counter argument, but his dad was partly right, all's he could do was shrug in defeat, "Huh..Touché."

The car pulled into an outdoor parking lot, just behind an apartment building named the "Seacroft Buildings". The parking lot was filled with other vehicles, mostly being old 2000s with the rare early to mid 2010 vehicles, but mostly 2000s vehicles. Stormbringer could tell, he could identify most of the vehicles, some of which had been discontinued almost a 2 decades ago.

"Well, here we are." He turned the key and then pulled it out of the ignition The two got out of the vehicle and made their way to the trunk, opening it. "Flash could you do me a favor and take that backpack and duffle bag."

Flash nodded, "Okay." He reached for the solid green coloured backpack and the black duffle bag, opening the duffle bag and placing his journal in it. before zipping it close again. Meanwhile his Dad took a suitcase and another blue backpack.

Most of their stuff had been placed in a moving truck and had been brought to the apartment already, apartment #78 on the seventh floor.

The two made their way to the parking lot entrance, a door that had been left opened as the movers were hauling Flash and Stormbringer's belongings to their apartment room. Just walking closer and closer, it seemed obvious that it had been given a new coating of white paint, possibly trying to look appealing.

Walking inside, Flash cringed, as the place reeked an odd odor, something that Flash would probably have to get used to as time progressed.

He pinched his nose, commenting about the awful smell, "EUGH! What's that smell?!"

Stormbringer glanced at Flash with a smirk, "Oh I'm sure it's not that ba-OH DEAR GOD!" As he sniffed the air he too pinched his nose. But even so, he wanted to assure Flash that things haven't gotten that bad yet "Okay, okay, so there's one flaw in his place, but come on maybe the apartment wont be so bad."

Flash wanted to differ, but stayed shut, not wanting to be too hard on a place that he'd just arrive at. "L-Let's just get in the elevator!" he groaned.

The two walked over to the elevator, Stormbringer pressed the button and waited for a moment until the door would slide open.

After the moment went by and the door slid open, the two both walked in. The elevator looked decent, the buttons all seemed to be intact and it smelled like germicide, but honestly, compared to the lobby he stood in a few minutes ago the elevator smelled much better.

Flash stopped pinching his nose, pressing the seventh floor button, the elevator door slid closed and the two began to feel the elevator's force for a moment.

The Elevator's door slid open the two emerged from the vertical transportation device. It was a long hallway, Flash and his father's apartment room was on the left of the hallway, just beside the elevator, something of a convenience to the two of them.

Though the apartment was old, the hallway itself looked pretty decent. The doors all had an dark blue color the walls were artichoke green and the hall way itself was pretty well lit. But of course, every good thing has to have one flaw, and that was another odor.

It smelled like fish mixed with what Flash imagined sewer water to smell like, he pinched his nose again, "So much for the nice hallway!

Meanwhile, Stormbringer overlooked that and met with the landlord, a lady with a husky build, teal skin and white hair. She wore a dress shirt and skirt, completed with dress shoes.

"Why hello there!" She shook Stormbringer's hand, "You must be Mr. Sentry!"

Stormbringer nodded his head, "Yup! That's me." As Flash walked over, he put his hand on his shoulder and patted it, "This here is my son, Flash."

She clasped her hands together and bowed a little, "Hi there!"

"Uh, Hi." Flash tried to sound enthusiastic and exchanged an awkward look to the landlord and briefly raised his arm, half heartedly waiving his hand and putting it back down quickly.

"So I presume you two want to get inside and look at your new home." she chuckled.

Stormbringer decided to play along with sarcasm, "Man, you must be a mind reader." He pretended to act baffled, "How did you know?"

Flash facepalmed, he loved his father, but... there were times where he did some pretty cringeworthy things he did sometimes. "Good Grief dad, good grief!"

The landlord chuckled, "Well then let's hop right to it!" She turned to the door and got the key out, putting it in the key hole and twisting it, opening the door. She turned back at Stormbringer, handing him the keys, one to open the door at the lobby, while the other was the key to his room, "You're gonna need these!"

He smiled, taking the keys and putting them in his top left jacket pocket. She walked inside the apartment with the father and son following closely behind her. Flash closed the door behind him, locking it.

As they walked inside, Flash's nose picked up another glaring smell, the smell of paint, something that he didn't enjoy so much, but at the same time, one he could be contempt with.

The three walked into the living room, it was small but not that small. It'd seemed the movers had placed some of the furniture ahead of their arrival because some things like the coffee table and their CRT TV had been placed right on top, with the wires being put on top.

Some of other essential furniture like their couches had also been placed randomly, with their three seated couch (with notable stains and some tears) against the wall and their sofa chair being placed at the corner of the Livingroom.

Meanwhile, the last of their furniture, a small dining table and three wooden chairs had all been left uncompleted, obviously not really being the jobs of the movers to assemble. To add onto that, their baggage, literal garbage bags with stuff in them had just been left in the middle of the living room.

"So here's the living room!" The landlord introduced, "As you can see, it's at a pretty cozy size but it still has a decent amount of space."

"Hmm, this looks a little bigger than our last place eh Flash?" His father nudged Flash's shoulder.

Flash glanced back at him, "Hm? Oh! Uh, yeah I guess so." He shrugged not really having any serious opinion.

They moved onto the kitchen, this part of the apartment was in the same area as the living room, being separated by a wall with a doorless doorway to get in and out of it.

"So this is the kitchen!" She pointed her arms at some of the kitchen appliances like the fridge and oven, "All of this stuff is still in good working condition and has been working for almost a decade."

Flash looked at the appliances, they were old, and looked to be discoloured, "A decade would probably an understatement lady, this stuff looks a little more older than 3 decades, maybe even four!"

They all walked out of the kitchen and walked through the hallway, where there were three rooms, two bedrooms, the master bedroom and a smaller bedroom, then the final room, the bathroom.

They all walked into the bathroom, it was a decently sized bathroom to say the least, not crazy big but not uncomfortably small, it was a in the middle with it leaning towards the small side a little.

"So this here is the bathroom, with plenty of warm water!"

At the left corner of the bathroom sat a sink cabinet, the cabinet had a yellow coloured counter with white paint making up the rest of the exterior. It had one door slightly bigger than the other. The sink was pretty straightforward, two knobs let out hot or cold water. The faucet had a noticeable water stains while the sink bowl had a stain around the drain.

At the far end of the bathroom was the bathtub, it was a rectangular shaped bathtub that had a decent width and had the length of the bathroom. The bathtub was new however, something that somewhat surprised Flash, other than that there was a white solid coloured showerhead.

Walking out of the bathroom, they walked into the master bedroom, Stormhringers bedroom! It looked to be the second most spacious room, right next to the Livingroom. The bed seemed to had been constructed, with no sheets or pillows whatsoever, just the bed itself. "So here's the master bedroom, the most biggest bedroom in this apartment!"

Other key features the bedroom had was a closet, with one whole wooden panel, only covering about half of the unused space, it had a window overlooking the road and a heater running along the side of the floor.

"Now I must warn you", the landlord chuckled nervously, "the heating here can get a bit.... irritating sometimes, but other than that it should be solid!"

Stormbringer merely shrugged, as the comment didn't seem to phase him, "It's fine."

They all walked out of the master bedroom and walked into the last room, Flash's room.

"And finally the other bedroom!"

Walking inside, the room was definitely smaller, but not as small as Flash had thought. The room had pretty much all the same things as the master bedroom but obviously, everything was more compact to accommodate the size of the bedroom, a heater, a window and a closet, that was it.

There also was another bed, already constructed, it was just a simple, single bed, no more, no less. Flash's eyebrows were furrowed, peering at the room, making comparisons to the one here and at his apartment at San Francisco "Well...at looks a little more decent than the one back home."

The landlord turned to back to Flash and Stormbringer, "Well.... that's kind of it for our whole tour."

Stormbringer nodded, smiling, "Well thank you mam for the tour, I think we've found everything to our liking."

She smiled, "Your welcome!" she started for the door, "If there's anything you need, my office and apartment is on the first floor!" She exited the bedroom, leaving Flash and Stormbringer in there.

Stormbringer put his hand on Flash's hand, "Well kid, this is it, our new home!"

"Yeah..." Flash nodded.

Some silence went by for a moment, until Stormbringer spoke, "Sooo…. you wanna unpack some of the stuff?"

Flash shrugged, he really didn't have anything else he wanted to do, "Sure." The two walked off and out of the bedroom.

Okay so I'm back and It's currently 2:46 in the morning! I can't believe I'm saying this but, dad was right about me getting my writing touch back when we came to this new city.

So the apartment's we now (and probably permanently!) live in is decent I guess, I mean I'll be man enough to admit that it's better than San Francisco, but still I'm not about to undermine my Hometown for some new city just near New York.

I mean, so far the only person we've met here was that landlady and she seemed pretty nice, which is really, really great! And our apartment room is on the seventh floor.

I think I spent about one hour unpacking a bag or something and we still have more!, I mean we have a lot of clothes, but some of the clothes we have aren't even used for wearing, we just need them as cleaning rags, it's not exactly.... normal I guess but I honestly don't question it, whatever helps to make a place clean is my only concern.

OH! Yeah! I almost forgot to mention but, I found my guitar! It took multiple searches but I finally found "ol'reliable" She's just a red bass guitar though, but still finding this thing was probably the most greatest thing about tonight, I mean you should know, I basically write about playing this thing 24/7!

Man I am really running outta pages for this thing, only a matter of time I have to buy a new one!

Well, I might as well end it off here....

Author's Note

So that was the second chapter of Prospect, Getting Settled in.

So I decided to have Flash as a guy who plays the gutair, you know, Canon Flash! (Well not really because of the whole, Baskteballl element and all that but you get the pciture)

anyway, In this chapter, Flash and Stormbringer have made it to Canterlot after 1.8 whole days which is like 40 or something hours I need to do some math. And It's clear that the apartment is really cheap and has bad odors.

Other than that I ended it off with a journal entry, I think I'm gonna have Flash do this in almost every chapter, well at least for the majority of the story which will be on a span of four years.

So in this headcanon I slightly altered things like the fact that all the movies have already happened, so that would mean Flash never existed as Twilights love interest, now to whoever could fill that role....I don't know.
