Fallout Equestria: Half Breeds
Chapter 25: Homing Honour
Previous ChapterNext ChapterBlitz watched all of the group from the comfort of a chair that was a little worse for wear than he may have liked, but it was still in a stable state, making it able to be used for what it was made for, to sit. Blitz noticed that there was something going on with his mind, due to him never really having bad thoughts until now, but Blitz was certain that there was something wrong with his mind, giving off the impression that it was due to something or somepony that had been planted within his mind and Blitz knew for a fact that it wasn't the nightmare doing those things, due to her only wanting to torment him, not twist some words around to provoke his way of thinking. Blitz knew that Death was up to something, but what exactly was he doing, snooping around and planting seeds of uncertainty within Blitz’s mind?
Blitz immediately got away from the subject, before thinking about what happened earlier, with the pendent that was lighting up and knowing that it was Azure picking up the amulet. Blitz was happy that he had snuck that amulet within Azure’s saddlebag, when he wasn't looking, before he got completely trapped and frozen in time. He was also glad that he had managed to get those two memories out of his mind, making Death unable to pinpoint all of the artifacts. Blitz had no memory of doing anything, but did remember him making a memory orb as soon as he got back, hiding it before dropping one in Azure’s corrupted vision of the events and in Azure’s saddlebag, along with the amulet.
Blitz relaxed within the room that he was in, waiting for all of the others to wake up and to see him not in the same room as them, more or less likely being awake before them all and breathing to clarify it. Shifty was turning on the windowsill, making Blitz remember that he was a changeling too, needing a little bit of warmth with him to make the little young bug hybrid warmer. Blitz teleported the little bug over to him, before wrapping a blanket around Shifty, warming him up a lot and making him lay perfectly on Blitz’s lap, almost like some kind of cat. Blitz could tell that Shifty was cold, making Blitz also wrap his wings around the smaller bug, making them both seem a little warmer, the cold really being their greatest threat, threatening to end them if they stepped into it for too long,
Shifty opened his eyes a little bit, before looking at Blitz, showing how tired the little bug still was. Blitz looked back at Shifty, before squeezing him a little and making him smile. Shifty made Blitz smile by yawning and chirping a tiny bit, being almost inaudible to normal pony ears, but not to changeling ears, being a little more sensitive than pony ears, but not as sensitive as bat pony ears, which could literally hear a pin drop in another city, if they focused hard enough. Blitz smiled back at Shifty, making Shifty blush a little bit, due to him chirping and yawning in front of his supposed father. He was mainly still tired, which was both a good and a bad thing for him. Blitz eased his head back onto his chest, just like he had had him on the windowsill, making Shifty want to fall asleep again.
“Go to sleep and I shall wake you up when the others wake up, okay?” Blitz asked, getting a nod from the bug, as he closed his eyes to shoot off to sleep again, being in the comfort once again of his father, making him find it easier to get to sleep, due to Shifty knowing that Blitz wouldn't do anything to hurt him, at least he hoped he wouldn't, which didn't help him sleep too much better, but he tried anyway, shifting into a more comfortable position and keeping his head on Blitz’s chest.
Blitz too shifted around, making sure that he was comfortable, before looking about and evaluating things, using his magic to grab stuff, trying to make no noise or no movements to wake Shifty and the others. Although Blitz was still looking like a raider, nopony saw him as one, which made him happier than ever before, due to them knowing that they could have a conversation with him. Although Blitz hated the armour, it was all that he could use, due to his chitin not really being too much help in protecting him. Anti teleported beside Blitz, before curling up next to Blitz and keeping him warm, which was something that Blitz appreciated quite a bit, despite him not really being too cold. With Anti there, Blitz was really warm, allowing him to relax in perfect tranquility, allowing all of the heat to distribute itself around his body, making sure that no parts were going to be able to get cold, which was the weakness of changelings, as well as having no love or starving to death, but Blitz’s love for his friends kept him going on strong.
There was a flash of white outside, indicating that either a balefire bomb had just gone off right next to them, or that it was thunder and lightning right then and there, making Blitz jump a little, due to the house that they were in having a couple of holes in it, allowing for no noise cancellation. Shifty woke up and jumped, being a little afraid of the thunder, due to it being too loud for him.
Shifty placed some noise cancelling ear muffs on, making it nearly impossible to hear anypony at all and made it easier to cancel out the loudness of the thunder, but sadly not the brightness of the lightning, as one bolt of it lit up the sky and made short work of everypony’s sleep, making them all wake up with ringing in their ears and lights in their eyes. Blitz felt a little bad and felt like it was somewhat his fault, when clearly it was not his fault at all, due to him being unable to change the weather, not only because the sky level was protected by the pegasi, but that he was a changeling, being unable to push clouds, but being able to stand on them, he hoped. Thinking about it, Blitz didn't even know if he was able to stand on clouds, which made him want to end all of the pegasi above just to see if he was able to stand on a cloud or whether he would sink right through it.
Everypony was awake, which was something that Blitz didn't mind, but didn't like either, due to them now having to wait till the rain had settled, due to it flooding the outside world, creating little pools of radioactive mess within a short proximity of them, making Blitz chuckle. Due to him having survived the fallout, Blitz was immune to radiation, which made him able to voyage out and grab things, despite the rain coming down hard around them. The only thing that normally stopped Blitz from going anywhere in the rain, was the heat of it, being cold always, regardless of what Blitz wore around him. He knew that even though he was wearing a lot of raider armour, he would still get really cold, due to it getting into the fabric that he was wearing, making him damper and colder, eventually killing him, due to the heat, or lack of.
Blitz stayed curled up with his timberwolf to one side and the bug that he was protecting from freezing on the other, wrapping his wings around the bug, only to keep him warm and to keep him protected, due to there being some ponies out there that would grab Shifty the first chance that they got. The fake pegasus looked up to his father and smiled, before nuzzling in closer to Blitz, making sure that Blitz was warm too, which he definitely was.
Blitz immediately thought about Azure, making his mind diverge into unnecessary thoughts, ones that made him feel better about himself and made him a little stronger, both physically and mentally, adding to the brains and brawns that were going on with Blitz. He was not naturally strong, due to him being a bug horse of some kind, but what he lacked in physical form, he made up for in the mental form, being very strong with different kinds of magic and making the right calls for the situations that he put himself into, not always picking the best choice, but picking one that would keep him walking about and keep him sleeping well, trying to save as many ponies as he could, unless provoked.
Blitz stayed still for as long as possible, not disturbing his little bug that was nuzzled into him. There was a sense of satisfaction that irradiated off Shifty, making Blitz feel so much better about everything that was happening right then and there in that moment, due to Blitz actually finding one of the many ponies that met something to him, being a given, due to Shifty being his son. Even if Shifty was not his son, he would have treated him differently to the others, due to him being a changeling,
There was a little shimmer of hope that was lingering in the air, making Blitz want to go out and about, due to him being a little bit bored of waiting to travel. Blitz was tempted to go out with Shifty and explore the area of the world that they were currently in, but Blitz was scared that he was going to lose the group, which he didn't want to happen, so he threw the idea away for the time being. It was good to relax every once in a while, but at the rate that Blitz was trying to move, he would have needed to be put into another form of coma just for his racing mind to subside. Motivation was going to be the biggest enemy to Blitz during his time with the group, until he got to the other location and he knew it. Until then, he was going to have to stay put and follow orders from the ponies that were escorting him, Shifty and Zavier to the settlement up North. Blitz was determined to find Azure, just so that they could have continued their adventure together.
Blitz couldn't remember for the life of him what was on those memory orbs. Was that Blitz thinking, or somepony else wanting to not be outsmarted by a bug horse? Blitz tried to get back to the thought of Shifty on his lap, but there was something pulling at his mind that might have been crucial to stopping Death’s brother from succeeding.
“What are you hiding?” Death whispered, not noticing that Blitz could hear him, making Blitz smile just that little bit more, before he looked at Shifty again and stroked his mane, knowing that behind that form of a pegasus, was an even cuter bug waiting to show his colours to the world, when there was nopony else watching at least. Blitz chuckled at the statement, before closing his eyes and sighing, before a loud crack of thunder hit his ears, making them ring a little, as the lightning blinded Blitz for a brief second. Blitz didn't mind the lightning and thunder, not after how fearful he was about it before he got encased in stone, hating it almost as much as shifty did, but there was something that made him change his opinion on the uncommon weather of the Equestrian Wasteland, which seemed to scare Blitz for some reason.
Blitz slowly got up and carried Shifty with him, using his magic to move him onto his back, before teleporting a ragged cloth over his back, keeping both Shifty and Blitz warm. Shifty was perfectly awake, but didn't want to move at all, due to the rag being so warm, making him nuzzle into Blitz’s progressively hotter chitin, somehow heating up and making both of them a whole lot warmer. Blitz stepped outside for a brief second, before flying up and looking at the clouds, seeing that they were definitely a lot darker than before, making Blitz think that all of the thunder claps and lightning flashes were the pegasi’s fault, which it most likely was, due to them not doing a single thing for the earth ponies and the unicorns that were stuck below the cloud layer.
Blitz narrowed his eyes, looking above him at a cloud that was shooting some of the lightning, as well as acting like a speaker and roaring crackling sounds of thunder. Blitz waited, making Shifty question what it was that he was doing. They both didn't need to worry about getting wet, due to the rag that was constantly heating them both, before Shifty realised something that made him a little scared. As Shifty looked down, he saw that Blitz was wearing rubber horseshoes, as opposed to his normal chitin like ones. Shifty has a general idea of what Blitz was going to do, but he didn't like it, due to how much he hated both thunder and lightning.
Blitz didn't hesitate one bit, making Shifty that little bit more scared. Blitz showed completely no fear against the thunder and lightning, but then it happened. Shifty closed his eyes and looked away, before hearing the loudest roar of thunder that he had ever heard. He shortly opened his eyes to see Blitz holding a bolt of lightning with his horn and magic, making him light up the world that was around him, getting the attention of all of the ponies that he had travelled with. The bolt didn't exhaust his magic, instead charging it and making it so that he would retain some more power from it, only if he stored the magic and didn't use it. Blitz slowly flew down to the floor, horn still reacting with the lightning bolt as he tried to stop. As soon as his hooves reached the floor, Blitz stopped reacting with the magic, before he placed a ring on his horn, preventing him from using his magic. Right then and there, he was a pegasus with holes in his body, due to not being able to release his magic strength until he used a single spell, which regardless of which one it was, it would use the lightning as power, rather than his magic, which was something that Blitz wanted to avoid, so putting the ring on his horn was the best option for him.
Shifty slowly got to the floor, before looking up at Blitz and smiling, before heading inside, seeking a little bit of warmth, due to Blitz not being able to heat up the rag, due to him saving his magic. Blitz didn't realise it, but the rubber shoes were gone, due to him only putting them on while absorbing the lightning energy. Blitz could see little orbs and bolts of electricity around his horn, making him feel like a little bit of a badass, but he only wanted to experiment with the lightning and thanks to Death, it was easier than ever to pull off, due to Death being within Blitz, not allowing him to die so easily, which in Blitz’s was good, or was it?
Blitz thought about that for a second, before looking at the others. Death would not let him die, so if he was in pain, he wouldn't be able to die, due to Death keeping him alive, keeping him in more pain for what Death deemed as a not worthwhile death. It wasn't really a blessing at all, due to that sole reason behind it. Blitz tried to not dwell on it too much, due to him getting easily distracted from the main narration of his story. He counted his life as a story, just so others would think of some funny excuse to read his life like a book. That was something that Blitz found funny, somepony writing a story of him and his travels. Blitz shook his head to get rid of any alliteration that could have entered eagerly into his head and sighed, before looking around and seeing that the sky was beginning to clear, looking no brighter than it had done originally.
The rest of the group came out to see that it had indeed stopped raining, making them want to go back inside and pack up to get ready to travel again, being only a little hesitant, due to it just stopping, making them think that the rain would come back soon. Blitz was adamant that it was gone for a good while, so he travelled inside and grabbed his saddlebag and checked through it for something. The weapons that he had acquired were in pretty bad shape, making him want to find somepony that would have been able to fix up his weapons, or at least sell them for an okay amount and allowing him to buy a better weapon.
Blitz had three weapons on him right then and there, those being his shotgun, which was the one that he was holding in his hooves, a pistol and an automatic rifle that he had gotten from the same raider, which made him feel a little underwhelmed to just find a couple of weapons. Although Blitz was unhappy with the weapons that he had obtained, he was glad that they had any type of weapon on hoof, because otherwise the world would have been much harder to traverse, making him somewhat thankful for the weapons that he had obtained, but not grateful for them to say the least, but beggars couldn't be choosers.
Blitz exited the building and waited for the others to come out, hovering just above the ground with a weapon in his hooves to avoid losing the charge of the lightning that hit his horn, making his magic go into overdrive. He was unable to use his horn, until he was ready to use the magic, not wasting the extra magic that he had by his side. Shifty came out of the building with all of his items, as well as Zavier coming out with all of his items, while Blitz just hovered like the drone that he was and waited for the rest of them, being the ponies that were escorting the group to the place. They all came out and looked at the three, giving them all a stern look before beginning to move North once again.
Blitz looked at both of his companions, before shaking his head and flying forward, being the one that would want to get off track a little more, due to him being the one that got bored the easiest. Shifty was going to be able to keep him in place and make Blitz stay on track, as well as Zavier being there to help Shifty where it was needed, due to Blitz being a little bit of a trouble to keep hold of. Blitz was following pretty close to the leaders, making him wonder what they were thinking as they all travelled away from the building that they had used to stay safe overnight, from both the Wasteland monsters and the rain.
Blitz noticed something happening in the distance, as they were in the middle of nowhere, not exactly being lost, but being close to it and making them seem a little confused at where they were. There were no trees and no signs of life anywhere, but that didn't stop them from trying to find the settlement that they were after. There was definitely movement in the distance, which was immediately picked up by not only Blitz, but the others leading the charge. They got their weapons ready, just in case it was for an action that they didn't necessarily liked, which involved shooting and injuring the things that were running to them, which ran almost like some ghouls, but it turned out to be a fair few raiders, holding up some spears and some pitchforks, which could have done some serious damage to them all, if they did hit at all.
Blitz raised up, past the group, before throwing his weapon to the side, keeping an eye on where it landed, so that he didn't lose it at all, before charging up his horn, all of the electricity coming to the tip of his horn. Blitz charged his horn to do a concentrated spell, but then changed his mind and morphed the spell into a little ball of energy. Blitz shot said ball out of his horn and it continued to pick up in speed, as it fell towards the raiders. Blitz lowered himself down a little bit before keeping his eye on the orb. Blitz teleported the shotgun to his saddlebag and then pulled out the pistol, before aiming a pistol at the orb that was still picking up speed, getting closer and closer to the raiders. Blitz aimed the pistol at the orb and waited for the right moment, before shooting the orb with a single well placed shot, making it explode into an electrical fireball, which was a sight to behold on its own, let alone the amount of damage it caused to the raiders.
From being a little changeling that couldn't really resist against the smallest of attacks, to becoming somepony that could output nearly as much devastation as a megaspell. Blitz was definitely not somepony that anypony wanted to mess with, due to the amount of chaos that he was putting out on the raiders that were charging the group originally, getting ready to kill them, until Blitz shut them down and destroyed any trace of them. Blitz lowered himself down to the ground and began breathing heavily, due to him not breathing at all during the movements that he had just made. He looked at the little crater that he had created and frowned, knowing that he had protected not only his friends and family, but himself. What did that make him if he killed with no reason to? That was one of those moments that Blitz didn't want to kill, but there was something in his mind that was provoking him to do so, almost like the spirit within him. Blitz was pretty certain that he knew why he kept killing, because if he didn't, they would have got in the way of somepony that was more determined to finish things than he was, which only made his concerns grow.
Blitz looked to the others with sad eyes, before Shifty walked a little closer and reached out his hoof towards Blitz, making Blitz do the same, before something walked out of the woodland that was in front of them all. Blitz got smacked away, hitting a couple of trees and then laying on the floor, being hurt as he saw the tree branch going straight through his body. At that point of time, Blitz was so glad that he was a changeling, due to the tree branch going through one of the holes on his forehooves, making him pick himself up with minimal pain. Death was actually not helping Blitz, which was a first. Blitz walked over to see what the thing was that had launched him across the way and saw that it was something that reminded him of the old times with Azure. A hydra roared in front of him, making him smile, filling him with rage.
Blitz waited for the hydra to roar, before he lashed out and teleported onto one of its three heads, using his shotgun to blast a series of holes into its neck, nearly decapitating the monster. Blitz noticed that his friends were chipping in, shooting at the hydra’s heads. Blitz ran out of shotgun ammo, making him result to using his magic to slice the remaining part of the neck off, before the head dropped to the ground, squirming like a little snake, which got picked up by Shifty, as he shook the head and part of the neck like a toy, shaking his head to the left and then to the right, making him look so adorable but also being pretty funny, due to the context of how stupid he was being. He was more likely to get bitten from the head than Blitz was, which made Blitz chuckle a little, focusing back on the hydra that had two heads remaining. Two heads too many!
Blitz pushed towards the other head of the hydra, seeing that it was snapping at him and making him feel like it could have done some serious damage to him. He tried to light his horn, but nothing came out of it, having no magic for some reason. He slowed down before getting hit and flung across the way due to the hydra’s neck, sending him into a pile of rubble, seeing that it was mainly some soft stuff. Blitz tried to get up, but couldn't, before feeling a sharp pain in his back, followed by some liquid trickling down his back too. Blitz was pretty sure that he had been impaled, due to the pain that he was in. If he wasn't mistaken, he was in more pain than he had ever been, due to Death not helping him at all. Blitz was pretty certain that he was just going to die there and give up, but he closed his eyes and travelled across his mind and found something that was more precious to him than anything else, apart from Shifty of course. Azure and Blitz going on a little adventure together played within Blitz’s mind, making him shed a tear, before opening his eyes and being fueled with rage.
Blitz sent out Anti and roared out in pain, as he tried to get himself off whatever it was that he had been impaled on. Shifty noticed this and ran over, swapping places with Anti, before being yanked away from his father by something. It was Anti dragging him away… With magic? Shifty was a little confused at that, but he wasn't going to contemplate it at the time of life and death, wanting to do more to protect his father, so he decided to go back to playing his old tricks.
Shifty flew over to the monster and got its attention, before taunting it. The hydra snapped one of its heads at Shifty, before watching him teleport next to it. The hydra was just as confused as the others, but just like Blitz had stated, Shifty was more evasive by using his magic, so although it would make the others confused and start to think about conspiracies about him, he didn't care at all, if only to protect his father and friends.
“You’re too slow!” Shifty whispered into its ear hole, before teleporting again, seeing that it was going to lash out again in his direction. Shifty was buying Blitz some time to be able to get what he was doing, done. Shifty bobbed and weaved around the hydra, surely annoying it to the point that it was beginning to realise that nothing was able to be done about the annoying drone that was trying to harass the colossal giant. Shifty stopped for a brief second, before the monster attacked, catching Shifty off guard and allowing himself to get hit. The hydra brought one of it’s claws down and slashed them at Shifty, hitting him directly in the face, before making him fly across the area, before hitting a tree and falling limp. He was badly hurt and Blitz was furious!
Blitz used all of the energy that he could to get himself off the thing that was holding him back, which with enough willpower, gave him the strength that he needed, before he slowly moved over to Shifty, seeing that the others were distracting the monster for the time being. Shifty had blood dripping down his face, along with scratches on his face. He was really, really badly hurt after that and Blitz watched as Shifty was unable to retain his pegasus form, changing into the little bug that he was, the new scars on his face dripping green blood off them, making Blitz cry a little.
“If you want me to be able to get what you want done, you gotta work with me here, Death!” Blitz spoke, before Death appeared, looking angrily at him. Death looked down and smiled, before Blitz walked in front of Shifty, protecting him from whatever it was that Death’s gaze did. Death went back to scowling at Blitz, before Blitz tried to shoot him with his magic, doing little to nothing to the hologram-like Death. He smiled again, before Anti tackled him, wiping the grin he had on his face off completely, before teleporting above them. Anti growled at him, making her opinions known and showing them all whose side she was really on.
Death rolled his eyes, before flying back into Blitz’s body and making Blitz feel no pain, along with an over the top feeling of energy, before Blitz turned around to see the hydra breathing down his neck. Blitz didn't stress, before throwing Death out of his own system, before striking the hydra with his hooves, pushing the hydra away and making it have to roll over just to keep on its own paws. Blitz brought out a pistol, before noticing an old friend below the belly of the beast, making him put his pistol away.
Blitz used his magic and pulled the item out form under the belly of the beast, revealing a huge amount of blood, but also his saber that the stupid pony had orignally lost, due to him being scared and a complete incompotent colt. Blitz looked at his old blade, seeing that the blood had corroded the blade, only adding to the attack of it, even if it fell apart when he hit something. Blitz spun the sword around in his magic, before looking back at the beast, seeing the hunger for Blitz in its eyes, before it lashed out, making Blitz teleport behind it.
“You want to hurt my boy? So be it!” Blitz viscously growled, before using the sword to attack the hydra, plummeting the sword down into the back of it, making it roar out in more pain than it had originally, when the stupid pony placed it into the stomach of the beast. Blitz dragged the sword out again, before noticing that there was a couple of marks where it had been attacked recently on the back of its neck, making Blitz become the master of pain and sinking not only the sword, but his fangs into the neck of the hydra, making it screech out in pain, messing with the wrong bug and getting what was coming to it. Blitz pushed the sword deep, before slicing off one of the heads cleanly, keeping it in his mouth like a little cat presenting its capture as a trophy. He spat out the head, before looking at the other two and smiling.
The hydra attacked Blitz, before hitting a shield that had been placed by the bug himself. The other hydra head came around the shield, making Blitz jump backwards to get himself away from the other snake-like head, noticing for the first time that the heads were different, before he was attacked again. He jumped back and looked at the head that attacked him, seeing that it was more or less looking like a lion's head, which didn't sit right with him for some reason. Blitz pulled out his pistol and shot out one of the eyes of the snake head, knowing full well that the snake was the more dangerous one, so he would take that one out last, which he thought was the easiest thing to do.
Blitz focused mainly on the lion head, seeing a powerful jaw that would surely just end him right then and there if it got a hold of him. Both heads lashed out instantly, getting shot by a couple of the ponies who were backing up Blitz, one of them being Zavier with his rifle, shooting the lion head in the eye, nearly killing it in one shot, which was pretty impressive to Blitz. Blitz looked back at Shifty to see if he was okay, which surprised him when he saw that the bug was leaning against a tree, using his magic to shoot Blitz’s shotgun that he had nabbed from his saddlebag, making him smile. Shifty shot past Blitz, hitting the monster in the head and peppering the lion head and the snake head in buckshot, not damaging it enough to hurt it, but distracting it enough for Blitz to teleport the shotgun to him and blow the head of the hydra off, that one being the lion head, showering Blitz in blood, giving him a little bit of satisfaction to all of the killing, but still remembering that he had a job to do.
The snake head put a end to Blitz’s reign of terror, biting Blitz in the neck and getting its lethal venom inside him, before tearing a piece of his neck out and throwing him onto the floor, making him twitch and convulse on the floor, like he was having some sort of seizure or something along those lines, due to the poison breaking down his immune system and making his mouth foam at the sides. Blitz’s vision went completely blurred and his hearing was completely lost, due to his body coming to an end, but there was something that kept Blitz alive, but he didn't know if it was Death or somepony else doing it, but he was still able to feel his body, however much pain he was in. He couldn't see anything but he tried to focus on the hydra, seeing a blurred outline of it for a brief second, before he decided to try to get up, still being twitchy and stumbling.
Shifty and Zavier looked at Blitz as he got up slowly, before using his wings to rise him up into the air, before his vision cleared a little more, giving him the basic outline of the hydra and seeing the last remaining head snapping at the other ponies that were fighting it, giving Blitz the strength to use his magic, and a lot of it if not that. Blitz charged his horn, before letting off a beam of pure black magic, evaporating the monster for all it was worth, nothing! Blitz came back to the ground, before using his magic to turn the entirety of the creature into dust, scaring everypony in the process, due to knowing what a hydra’s snake venom was capable of. It melted the insides of a pony and turned their bones to jelly, losing their structure. There was definitely something that was keeping him alive and Blitz was pretty sure that it was indeed Death, but he was a little confused about why Death wanted to keep him around, despite knowing deep down what Blitz’s intention was for him.
Blitz stopped firing his magic, before seeing that all of the ponies around him were looking directly at him, scaring him a little bit and making him believe that he was looking like a little psychotic bug with how much magic he had just used. His eyes glowed red, signalling that Anti was nearby, which she was, but even she looked a little concerned and she was his pet or companion. Blitz sighed, before sitting down, knowing that there was something that was preventing him from dying, but he wanted to know what it was and it was definitely not because he was a changeling, that was not the reason.
A raider came out of a bush beside Blitz and attacked him, missing completely, as Blitz moved to the side and bit the raider, before noticing that the raider dripped out black blood and seeing the raider scream. Blitz was a little afraid, but then he saw something that changed his mind to know for sure that Death was the reason that he was still alive. The raider began to melt, as its scream became muffled and Blitz realised that Death absorbed the ability and allowed Blitz to use it, but why?
The others looked at him in pure shock, not believing what they were seeing. It was somewhat terrifying to see a pony melt, let alone right in front of them by one of the ponies that was travelling with them. Blitz knew that they were not going to look at him the same way, due to what their reaction was like after seeing Blitz melt another pony. Blitz walked back, not wanting to hurt both the physical and mental status of his friends, so he tried to keep his distance away from the group, seeing how much it confused and hurt them mentally. Blitz was not happy with Death, but Blitz knew that it was something that could have been useful in a better scenario. Anti came over to Blitz before nuzzling him softly, knowing that all would have eventually been okay.
The group continued to travel, making sure that Shifty and Blitz were okay, being that they were the only two who got hurt. It seemed like the hydra hated the bugs the most, seeing how they were compared to the others. Blitz offered to carry Shifty, which he declined, but Blitz was not taking anything or any answer from Shifty, picking him up and placing the smaller bug on Blitz’s back, trying to keep him warm with his wings, as Shifty rested his head against Blitz’s neck, before closing his eyes and drifting off to sleep, which was something that he definitely needed at that point of time, due to having the absolute pinnacle of damage from the hydra, injuring Blitz’s little bug more than he liked to say. Blitz was going to have to keep his eyes on Shifty, just to make sure that the little bug was enduring till the very end. Blitz was determined to make him see the sun, if it was the last thing he was able to do, even during his final breaths.
They continued to travel North, getting closer and closer to their destination, which was a settlement up above them on the map, which allowed both Zavier and Blitz to discuss what they were going to do when they got to the settlement. Their first idea was to find Azure and all of the others and their second idea was to see what they could have brought from the shops that were located there, hoping that because they were closer to a bunch of factories, that they might have had some better weapons or something, because Blitz needed some new weapons, because the ones that he had were doing no justice for him.
Nopony looked a Blitz, apart from Shifty, who Blitz had been carrying for a little while, due to him being hurting more than Blitz would have liked. Blitz turned his head to see Shifty looking at the view that they were travelling by, making the little bug sigh with a mix of content and boredom. Shifty looked at his father, before snuggling into him, warming not only Blitz's body, but also his heart, having a little soft spot for his son. Blitz was certain that Shifty was going to fit right into Blitz’s little family that he was gathering within the Wasteland.
Zavier stopped, seeing something near the settlement that concerned him a little bit, which was a couple of Steel Rangers, aiming their weapons at a couple of ponies right next to the settlement that they wanted to get to, making them all eye the group, as they moved closer to the settlement. They noticed the group coming and then eyed both Shifty and Blitz. They stood their ground, but one of them pointed their weapons at the group, almost like they were already hostiages, without the pressure that came with being one.
They all acted like there was nothing wrong, before one of the Steel Rangers stopped them by walking up to them and blocking their path, not allowing them to proceed, which was the only thing that they wanted to do. He eyed down the two changelings and laughed a little when he saw the marks on Shifty’s face, before looking down at Blitz, who looked back at him with a blank expression.
“Oh, don't you look like a happy fella! Get over there!” The Steel Ranger ordered, making Blitz look at him with the same blank face that he had originally, walking away with the group, before Blitz got shot in the leg, making him limp and turn around to see the end of the Steel Ranger’s rifle smoking in the cold air, before the ranger laughed. “Get over there!” he repeated, pointing over to the other ponies that were tied up on a carriage. Blitz limped, but placed down Shifty, before pushing against him lightly with his wounded leg, as if he was trying to protect him.
“Here is what I suggest, okay? You let those ponies go and it will end with you living and running away to tell the tale, or you can fight me with a one hundred percent chance of dying. Which one do you want, mister ranger?” Blitz asked, threatening the ranger with what little leverage he still had when it came to talking. Death was doing a great job of removing the pain from Blitz’s body, but there was only so much that he could do, making Blitz use a spell to heal his back leg, making a little bit of a mucky job of it, scarring it a little, due to him not being a medical pony, as well as Death using the spell, not Blitz. Blitz was beginning to think that Death liked leaving constant reminders that Blitz was under the protection and order of him, making him chuckle a little in front of the Steel Rangers, another one coming to assist his ally.
Blitz slowly moved back, shifting Shifty back as well, before getting bored of the rangers looking at him and the others being in the back of the carriage. Blitz was giving them all one last chance to change what they were doing, before seeing one of them come up to him and grab him, like he was a random object. Blitz lashed out, using his magic to blind them all, before chopping through the metal of the ranger that was carrying him with magic, slicing off his horn and making him scream in pain. As the whiteness cleared, they saw Blitz place a metal rod into the side of the ranger, making him die on the spot. Blitz quickly teleported the group away, before seeing Shifty teleport back to try his hoof at distracting the Steel Rangers, as opposed to a hydra.
Blitz was a little angry that Shifty was unable to follow Blitz’s orders, but he did manage to distract most of them. Blitz ripped off the guns from the side of the dead ranger’s body, before pointing the gun at them. They shot back, missing all of their shots, before Blitz fired a barrage of shots at them, peppering them in lead, going through most of their armour, due to the weapons of bullets being enchanted with some sort of armour piercing modification, hence the reason that most of the Steel Rangers were able to easily kill most alicorns, even though alicorns can produce the strongest shields known to ponykind.
The two rangers dropped like flies, seeing the ever so familiar red liquid come out of their suits, making Blitz feel a little more satisfied than he originally had been. He looked at Shifty, who was still distracting the other Steel Rangers, before dropping the weapon, being slightly concerned that he might have hit Shifty by accident, making him shake that possibility out of his mind, before running over to the other group of rangers, before drawing out his sword that had been used to fight the hydra originally, thinking that the rust might have been useful when Blitz was able to get past the armour of the Steel Ranger, or if he was able to find a weak point in the armours design, which was highly unlikely, due to the way that the armour was made.
Blitz tried to jam the sword into one of the rangers, seeing that it was no use, before feeling all of his rage build up and trying again, this time using his magic to make the weapon ethereal, before making it vanish into the ranger, before making it reappear inside the armour of the Steel Ranger. The armour went quiet, before Blitz saw a puddle of blood forming at the bottom of the armour, suggesting that the ranger was added to the pile of bodies that Blitz had made. He turned the sword back to its ethereal form and dragged it out, seeing that the entire thing, not only the blade, was covered in a matte red paste, which resembled the blood of the Steel Ranger that he had just jammed it into.
The other rangers got sight of Blitz, before trying to avenge their fallen friend, shooting a barrage of bullets at Blitz and making him immediately put up a shield to protect himself. Shifty teleported into the little bubble, before seeing one of them charging up a weapon, forcing them to move. Blitz dropped the shield, before grabbing Shifty with his magic, throwing both himself and the smaller bug behind a rock, seeing that the charged up energy weapon was active, missing Blitz by a couple of hairs, which he was glad about, due to him not wanting to hurt anymore than he already did.
Blitz held his head, before feeling a pressure build up within it, making him think like he had not originally. It was definitely the work of Death and Blitz could tell that he was not happy about the Steel Rangers slowing them down, so he summoned a weapon out of the blue, not even one that he owned, which made him very confused, before the echo of specific orders ran through his head, prompting him to do what it asked him to do.
“Fire!” a voice whispered within his head, constantly looping over and over, repeating and overlapping with every second that Blitz thought about it, getting progressively unbearable. Blitz looked at the massive machine gun that Death had teleported out of nowhere, before smiling like he was purely insane. Blitz slowly placed a shield in front of him, protecting him from all of the torment that he was going to be receiving from the Steel Rangers. The ranger charged up the weapon again, thinking that Blitz was surely doomed. He let off the weapon with a pop and watched as it spiraled towards Blitz's shield, Death seeing a perfect opportunity to turn Blitz into a lethal weapon on his own. Death took control of Blitz, dropping the shield and using his magic to catch the shot, before absorbing it into Blitz’s horn, before making the massive machine gun fall to the floor, forgetting to despawn it back into his arsonal.
Right then and there, Blitz felt like his body had been possessed, which it had been, due to Death using Blitz’s magic to absorb the charged shots that pierced most things. A surge of energy entered Blitz’s body, making him both excited to see what he could have pulled off, but also scared about all of the fighting that had been going on. Blitz was only trying to get to his friends, but there were ponies and creature fighting him around every corner, pushing him to do things that he wasn't exactly proud of or wanted to do, but they would either make Death control him, due to seeing opportunity in Blitz’s vision, or would have very, very bad thoughts about the choices that he had made earlier within his lifetime. It didn't help that Death was constantly nagging him about the memory that he had lost, which he had no idea what he meant.
Blitz smiled as he gained control of himself, looking at the rangers who were completely paralysed in fear of Death collecting the energy orb and holding it still. Blitz held up his head, before pointing his horn at the Steel Rangers, making them shudder a little, as Blitz shot off the magical orb, sending it in their direction. It hit one of the Steel Rangers and vapourised them both, along with their armour and their weapons sadly, but if Blitz was able to get enough magic, he could turn all of the energy he got into one of those orbs, thanks to Death implanting the spell into his head.
Blitz looked to the others and saw that they were looking both shocked and horrified, noticing that he had made the Steel Rangers vanish without a trace. Blitz really wanted to be rocking around with their weapons, but he didn't realise how strong the spell was, which got him thinking. How come he didn't evaporate, but them in their armour did? There was something that Death had done to him, which he didn't like, due to him not knowing if it was just pure immortality or just made him invulnerable to all types of strong attacks. Either way, Blitz was really confused, but knew that he was being used for something that he didn't even know, making him a little scared within, but he remained confident for the most part on the outside, only to make the others think that he knew what he was doing, when he really didn't have a single clue about anything that was happening to him or his convoy.
Blitz shook his head, before looking to the others, seeing that they were checking to see if each other were all good and healthy. Happily, they were okay, but something was up with Zavier, almost like he was seeing something or had been startled by something. Blitz walked over to him, before seeing him recoil, before realising it was Blitz, making Blitz question what was happening to the young zebra. He shook his head, before nodding to Blitz.
“Sorry about that Blitz! Something had my mind within a trance, before it exited said trance and you came into view. I thought that you were something like the grim reaper!” Zavier hastily stated, making Blitz smile and chuckle.
“Not far from it…” Death stated within Blitz’s head, making Blitz roll his eyes at him and then go back to talking to Zavier about what he had been seeing, getting key details from it that didn't match up with anything that he had seen in his time within the Wasteland. Blitz looked at Shifty, as he hopped onto the back of Blitz, making him chuckle, before turning around and going over to the ponies that were being taken captive by the rangers, seeing that they were all eager to thank Blitz for what he had done.
Blitz brushed off any compliments that he got, due to him not needing the praise that he got, but respected it anyway, getting his confidence up a little, before getting ready to head inside the settlement, hoping to find the ponies that they wanted up in the North. They entered the area and split up, Zavier and Shifty wondering off a little, which Blitz tried to find some sort of lookout to look over the settlement as much as he could. Although he had wings, he didn't want to do anything that seemed to be slightly suspicious, such as flying directly up to look for something.
Blitz climbed up the side of the settlement walls, which rewarded him with somewhat of a good view of the entire settlement, seeing that there was a huge group of ponies within the centre of the settlement, getting a spark of curiosity from Blitz, making him want to go over and investigate. He looked around for his little convoy, but saw that they had all scattered out, thinking that he might as well go and see if he could find somepony that he recognised within the crowd that he saw. With that, Blitz hopped down from the wall and made his way over to the other ponies that had mass gathered in the centre.
Blitz walked over and saw that there was somepony singing up on a stage, feeling like they were free from any confines and hassles that were wrong with the world. In the area that Blitz was at, it was more of a place to reside and unwind, seeing that the music was calm and upbeat, rather than depressing, like most of the music that played within the Wasteland, being on multiple radio frequencies, taking them up so that they couldn't be used for any other type of radio broadcaster.
The music stopped and everypony stomped their hooves, showing their own type of appreciation, before they all desperced, leaving the singer on the stage, with a couple of other ponies looking at them. Blitz looked at the singer, seeing that they were an earth pony with a dark blue mane and tail and beautiful white fur, almost like it was some sort of diamond like feature that made them stand out more and more.
They sighed on the stage, before looking around and seeing Blitz, being a little curious about what Blitz was, due to her not seeing another changeling before. She jumped off the stage, before evaluating the bug that was before her. Blitz blushed a little, before looking at the others, who were eyeing him with not only curiosity, but jealousy and hate. Blitz looked at the beautiful figure as she tried to put her hoof through one of Blitz’s holes, making him chuckle. She laughed too, looking up at him and seeing a smile on his face, making hers appear.
“My name is Sapphire, Sapphire Rhythm! Who are you, if I may ask?” the earth pony asked, before soft spoken and more polite than all of the others that Blitz had come across, maybe due to her being a medical pony, due to the saddlebags that she had, as well as one of the same medical supply boxes that she had tucked away behind her saddlebags, making Blitz a little curious as to what her origin was.
“I am Blitz! That's pretty much my entire name, due to me not having a family with a last name. Maybe my last name could be Bug or something like that. Blitz Bug? Yeah why not. Nice to meet you, Sapphire!” Blitz state, getting a chuckle from the mare. The other ponies began to walk across to him, making Sapphire try to block them from getting any closer. They slowed down a little bit, before looking directly at Blitz, seeing the same anger in their eyes as he had seen in somepony before he got turned to stone, making him know that the group were really jealous that he was talking to the mare and that she was enjoying the conversation.
They moved Sapphire out of the way and trotted over to Blitz, before seeing him smile at them, making them even more angry than they already were. They stopped in front of Blitz, before smiling at each other, towering over the smaller bug, but not looking so intimidating, due to Blitz fighting a hydra before this. Blitz chuckled before looking up at the other ponies.
“I just finished fighting and killing a hydra, I don't think that this will compare, but I won’t hurt you colts.” Blitz stated, Death agreeing with showing the group how intimidating the little things could be, one of those little things being Blitz, as he waited for the first stallion to attack, being ready for the funny fight he was about to have.
