5: Caramel Sundaes for 2

Applejack sat at a two-person table, in her favorite sweets shop, alone. She came here when she was bored, or hungry, or both.

The waiter approached her, and Applejack smiled at him. It wasn't a real smile, just one you give to someone to be nice.

"What would you like today, ma'am?" the waiter asked her, holding a pen and paper, ready to write her order.

"I'll have one caramel sundae," Applejack said to the waiter, handing her menu to him, which she didn't really need as she always got the same thing.

"Okay, coming right up." The waiter smiled at her and walked away. Applejack smiled back.

Applejack sighed as soon as he left. She'd had a long, tiresome day. She was definitely not up for social interaction right now.

She tapped her hoof on the table, waiting for her order to arrive. Suddenly, she saw the door fly open, and a dart of blue flew across the room. She raised her eyebrow in slight interest.

"Cider, stat!" the voice said, and before Applejack could get a glimpse of the pony, she immediately recognized the familiar voice.

Rainbow Dash?

Great, now her friend was here. She didn't want to see her friends, much less interact with them, not today. She tried to make herself appear invisible. As invisible as an orange pony with yellow hair and a cowboy hat can be.

To no avail, the blue pony still managed to notice Applejack.

About 10 minutes before, Rainbow Dash was having an exceptionally average day. She decided it was time for her daily below-average cider, which was her compromise between begging Applejack to make cider just for her during the times where it was not Sweet Apple cider season. What could she say? She was an addict.

She ran a hairbrush through her mane, and it looked just as fluffy and horrible as it did before she brushed it. She shrugged her shoulders and decided to not care very much.

She flew over to her bathroom, which was not a very far distance to fly, living in such a small house, and she could very well just walk there on hoof, but, as she usually said, wings are way cooler.

She quickly examined her teeth for any gunk, and flexed her wing muscles at herself in the mirror. Yep, completely awesome.

She chuckled to herself and flew out of the bathroom. She headed towards the door, which was not very far from the bathroom.

She opened the door and pursued the open skies. Of course they were open, because Rainbow Dash herself cleared them earlier. All in a days work.

On her way down to Ponyville, she found a few stray clouds and quickly kicked them away, evaporating into the air around them. She did so with swagger, but in a way that was only to impress herself.

After a short ways of flying, she landed on Ponyville ground, stretching her wings and hooves before taking off once again, at a not-so reasonable speed. She couldn't wait any longer for her boringly average day to become just average.

She speeded through Ponyville, passing by ponies she knew, but gave them no mind. Today wasn't the day for small chat, just cider and alone time.

She shot through the doors of the sweets shop she visited at least once a day, for her daily cider dosage. The cider there was not anything special, not like Sweet Apple Acres cider, but it did the job in the time being.

"Cider, stat!" Rainbow Dash said at the front counter, after making quite the entrance dashing in.

"Roger that, Dash." the waiter said back to her, smiling. He had became fond of her. Dash hoped he didn't think she was flirting with him.

Suddenly, Dash noticed a familiar face that she wasn't so opposed to seeing. Applejack.

"Hey, Applejack!" Rainbow Dash said, heading over to her table. Applejack flushed a magenta, and seemed a bit startled.

"Oh, hey Rainbow." Applejack said, moving her hat from covering her face. "Whatcha doin' here?"

Suddenly, the waiter approached them both, cider and sundae in hand. "Here you go. You two are dining together tonight?"

Applejack looked at Rainbow Dash, and Rainbow Dash looked at Applejack. "Um, no-"

"Sure!" Rainbow Dash said happily, taking her cider and gulping it down in record time.

Applejack gave Rainbow Dash a weird look, then shook her head, and carefully took her sundae from the waiter.

"Talk to you later, girls." the waiter said, then he winked at Rainbow Dash.

Rainbow Dash grimaced and slid further down in her seat.

Applejack felt sorry for Rainbow Dash. "Just ignore him, sugarcube." she said, smiling at Dash, this time a genuine smile.

Something about Rainbow Dash made Applejack feel soft. A softness she didn't feel for anypony else, it was strange.

"Colts can be so annoying," Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes in her seat and put her hands behind her head. "like, I don't want to talk to you. Go away."

Applejack giggled at Dash. "I'd say that's mighty common," Applejack sighed. "I actually went out with a stallion today."

Rainbow Dash suddenly looked shocked, then became shy. "Oh. Cool."

It wasn't that Rainbow Dash had a crush on Applejack or anything. She just really hated seeing her with other ponies, mare or stallion. She didn't usually date, but when she did, every time Dash got jealous. Dash didn't date because of Applejack, why did Applejack need to date, too?

Applejack gave Rainbow a suspicious look, then shrugged it off.

The two mares sat in silence for a few seconds, then Dash piped up. "So.... what was he like?"

There was no way this stallion was as good for Applejack as Rainbow Dash. Or half as cool as she was. Not that she cared.

"He smelled mighty of four in one shampoo." Applejack smiled slyly.

Rainbow Dash burst out into laughter. "Wow, geez, stallions really are like that."

"I reckon he was just trying to get into the sheets with me, anyway." Applejack took a big bite of her caramel ice cream and shrugged, uncaring.

"Really? I'll fight him if you want," Dash joked, smiling at Applejack.

"You could definitely take him." Applejack joked, smiling back at her friend.

"You bet I could." Dash smiled at herself for a moment, then turned to AJ. "Seriously though, you deserve someone who treats you really well."

Applejack looked at Rainbow Dash for a second, into her bright moderate cerise eyes, then smiled at her lovingly. "Thanks, Dash."

"Hey, AJ, do you... wanna come over to my place after this?"

Applejack looked at her like she was crazy. "You live on a cloud, darlin'."

"Twilight could cast a spell on you or something!" Rainbow Dash said, thinking intently for a solution.

"You really wanna talk to Twilight right now?" Applejack sighed. "I ain't up for much interacting besides you."

Suddenly, the door chimed.

Four ponies entered the shop, giggling and talking amongst each other. One wore a wizard hat and cape, one was the colors of the sunset, one the night sky, and the other a soft pink, like dawn.

Applejack eyed the four ponies and looked at Dash. "Speak of the devil,"

Rainbow Dash turned around and saw the four ponies. "Twilight!" she said, getting up and flying over to Twilight and her friends.

"Oh, hey Rainbow Dash," Twilight seemed coy, and caught off guard.

"Whatcha doing here? With Starlight and Trixie and... who is that?" Rainbow Dash looked at Sunset with curiosity. She'd never met her before.

"Um, this is Sunset. She's my um... girlfriend." Twilight said, blushing a bit and seeming afraid to say what she said.

"And I'm her girlfriend too, just so you don't get any ideas, Rainbow Dash." Trixie eyed Dash, as to imply that she would ever want to get with Twilight or a stranger.

"I am also their girlfriend." Starlight chimed in, smiling. "Trixie, be nice."

"Yeah, okay, well, I'm here with Applejack-"

"Technically, she just flew in and started harassing me-" Applejack said, deadpan.

"Yeah, well, we're hanging out now. Anyways, we need you to do a spell thingy thingy where you turn Applejack to have pegasus legs so she can walk on clouds." Rainbow Dash said very quickly, then adding, "Please."

Twilight looked at her for a second, then said with suspicion, "Wait, are you two like, hanging out, or?"

Rainbow Dash and Applejack both looked startled in gay panic. Various no, never, and whats were thrown around the room.

"It's okay to be gay, you guys know." Starlight said factually. "It's 2020."

"Applejack went on a date with a stallion today!" Rainbow Dash blurted out in gay frustration. "We wanted to talk about that."

"Yes, AJ, one of us! One of us!" Sunset started chanting.

"Convert to the cult of lesbians!" Starlight said, smiling.

Twilight facepalmed."Guys, you are not setting a good example by forcing your gay agenda on them."

"Yes, because these are two straight girls doing straight girl things." Trixie deadpanned. "Seriously, when has two girls hanging out not been the slightest bit lesbian?"

"Trixie! Shut up!" Twilight said loudly. "Anyways, girls, sure, I'll do the spell."

"Thank you, Twilight." Rainbow Dash smiled.

"But you have to invite us to hang out."

Rainbow Dash's jaw dropped. "What?"

"If it's not gay, then prove it. Invite us and don't be gay." Starlight said, smiling at her friends.

Applejack suddenly piped up. "I.... whatever, Dash, just let 'em."

"Okay, fine." Rainbow Dash sighed. "But don't judge how my house looks."

Twilight tilted her head slightly. "What's wrong with your house?"

"Oh, that's whats wrong with your house." Twilight said, staring at the large amounts of clothes, trash, energy drinks, and empty cigarette packs on Rainbow Dash's floor.

"Yeah, I kinda just fly around a lot so... I don't really notice the floor get messy."

"Hoo-diddy!" Applejack said as she walked in, tripping on a can of Monster. "Rainbow Dash, how in Celestia's name do you live like this?!"

"I usually just don't think very much, so..."

Applejack started picking things up with her hooves. "We are cleaning this up, right now."

"This is a job for none other than Twilight Organizing Addict Sparkle." Trixie said, pointing to her girlfriend.

"I am not an organizing addict!" Twilight said before picking up a few things with her horn, quickly sorting them into piles and putting things in their rightful places. "Ah, that's better."

Rainbow Dash's jaw was dropped. "Wait, how will I find anything?"

"Everything is organized by color of the rainbow, so yeah." Twilight smiled.

Applejack then galloped towards the now clean couch and jumped down on it. "Yeehaw, That's better!"

Rainbow Dash plopped down next to her, and the rest of the girls took their respective seats.

"Hey, you guys know what we should do?" Trixie said, looking around the room.

"What?" Starlight asked, curious.

"Please, no, Trixie. Not again." Twilight put her face in her hooves, expecting the worse.

"What? What do you mean not again?" Applejack asked, looking inquisitively at Twilight.

"We should play truth or dare!" Trixie shouted, her cape flying in the non-existent wind.

"Here we go again." Twilight said, facepalming.
