As the clock on the classroom wall continued to tick, Patty Parker felt like she was falling. An odd feeling to have, considering she was currently sitting in her desk. Although she really wasn’t, mentally ( internally ) it was like they were descending down an endless empty sky.
But the wind which was blowing through her light-beige coat and blond mane has since lost it’s effect, now becoming numb to such a sensation. Essentially, taking away any overtly descriptive purple-prose that had been spewed out prior. She‘s basically experiencing what could only be simply described as "pure boredom". Her deep onyx hues firmly planted upon what’s in front of her, but her actual attention had been anywhere but.
[ Honestly, it’s so weird to be in class and / NOT / care about what’s happening. Is this what everypony else deals with? I can’t even bring myself to listen what Ms. Sparkle is saying. ]
She thought, noticing her teacher trotting back and forth in front of the class chalkboard with her name written in all capitalization: TWILIGHT SPARKLE. Below were phrases such as "Pre-Nightmare Era", "Crystal Empire’s re-emergence" and "The New Marvel Age according to Princess Celestia" being written down on it. Said unicorn educator clearly engaged in a lecture of sorts, however Patty simply couldn’t bring herself to listen to what she was even saying.
“Patty, you seem out of it. What exactly is making you so anxious to leave?”
Twilight Sparkle’s voice immediately disrupting her inward monologuing, making rapid blinks ensue while fluctuating chuckles and expressions of amusement came from her classmates. Making visage slightly flush red with embarrassment. Her left ear hastily twitching back, hopefully expressing that she had been indeed focusing on ( whatever) the teacher had been talking about prior. Her forearm hoisted upward and nervously placed behind her mane.
[ Was it seriously that obvious? ] She bitterly muttered, taking a small breath and forming a reassuring smile.
“It’s nothing, Ms. Sparkle.” Of course, not exactly believing her response given how her eyebrow had been raised. “… Just, something important happening after school.” There’s some semblance of truth hidden underneath, yet there still persisted judging magenta hues protected by those thick glasses she constantly wore. Her violet lips remaining stationary while Patty remained silent. Until a sigh soon escaped from Twilight’s muzzle, “Well while you’re waiting, perhaps you can finish your history report since that’s due tomorrow.”
“Oh, don’t worry. I’ve already done it.” Beaming proudly, her neck lowering to where her saddlebag rested with it’s straps hanged over her chair. Opening it and pulling out a red folder, name scribbled using ink as she brought it over. Holding it utilizing her mouth, grinning all the while. The folder becoming enveloped in a magical aura soon afterwords, Twilight inspecting it via her magic. Opening it and speed-reading through several pages. A smile slowly formulating as she’s pleased by her student’s results.
“Including the reflection, I’m impressed!”
“… Teacher’s pet.” Snarky remark coming from a pegasus colt sitting two rows behind her, a filly sitting beside him stifling a laugh while she looked at Patty. Her head swiftly turned as she glared daggers at them both. Mouthing a inaudible retort who’s main intention was as clear as day. “Shut your mouth, Sky Lance.” Said-she, brow furrowing.
『 BRRIIIIIING! 』
Immediately afterwords, the bell would start ringing. Six hours of school finally coming to an end for today, the twelve students divided into four rows getting up from their seats. A few grabbing their saddlebags and simply leaving while others merely chatted with their friends during their exiting of the room. Twilight left agape at how fast they were leaving, professionalism now fading whilst they stumbled upon their final words.
“Uh, d'oh! Remember to hand in your history reports by tomorrow in the bin listed under "P3 History 9". Be excited for next week, A.K Yearling is visiting our school for a presentation!” She’d exclaim, before realizing everypony in her class ( already) left.
“… If only I didn’t screw up the stupid entrance exam.” Grumbling underneath her breath. Taking a glance at her blank flank, fortunately hidden thanks to the long plaid skirt she was wearing below the red vest and shirt covering her upper half. Rolling her eyes before taking another glance at the only submitted homework she was given for this period. Might as well grade it, she thought.
〝Hey, have you seen "The Great And Powerful" Trixie’s show in Bridleway? 〞
❝ Ugh, no! The tickets were all sold out, my mom practically blew a gasket. ❞
〝 Aw, really? That stinks! Well, how about we go see the special match at Madisoat Square Garden? Heard anyone can get into the ring to fight Cherry Blossom for a thousand bits! 〞
[ Idiots, the lot of them. I swear, three years from now these foals will end up working in dead-end jobs while I’ll be drinking high class cider up in Canterlot. ] Such prideful, egotistical thoughts would seem rather weird, jarring perhaps coming from a earth pony who mostly lived her life having her head buried under a textbook. But for Patty Parker, she had talents which were ( far ) beyond what her cutie-mark represented. As tempting the thought of revealing them up-front for the whole school to see seemed, she knew much better than that. They were a patient pony, that was for sure… Although she couldn’t lie, seeing the potential looks on everypony’s faces would’ve most certainly been a sight for sore-eyes.
[ Someday, but not today I’ll show 'em all. Everypony might / THINK / they know Patty Parker, lonely timid nerd with a knack for chemistry! But oooooh, they’d never imagine in a million years what I’m capable of! ]
The beams of sunlight peering through the school’s opened ceiling windows bringing her back to reality from her imagination-fuelled daydreams, idly walking across the hallway and reaching her locker. Her hoof reaching it’s lever and swinging it open, grabbing her lunchbox’s handle via mouth before holding it under her left forearm. Keeping the container close to her chest as she stood up, closed her locker door and began a gait towards the school’s front doors. That is until a certain individual purposefully tripped her once she reached the entrance, making her face meet concrete much to her annoyance.
『 THUMP! 』
“Gosh, are you alright?” Apparent disingenuous vocals originating through a light green earth pony mare, standing a couple inches before her. Patty looked up, meeting her blueish orbitals with a groan escaping.
“It’s bad enough you live next door, but seriously Twinkle Glitter? You gotta be a prick even when school’s over?”
“Now is that the kinda tone you take to meeting a friendly neighbour? Especially after your display of a nasty attitude during Ms. Sparkle’s class!”
Keeping her false-cheery tone constant, finding amusement in her constant prodding. Patty’s eyes narrowing during her attempt at getting back up. “Friendly, right.” Groaned-she, surprise coating her facial features upon receiving a swipe at her leg. Tripping them yet again, earning a chuckle directed her way.
[ Keep calm Patty, keep calm. Reduce your urge to maim. ] She rose, a scowl planting itself even when she grabbed her stuff and strutted away from her peers' gaze. Dropping her lunchbox and leaving them behind. Now heading straight into the busy streets of Manehattan city. Becoming nothing more than another face in a multi-coloured crowd. Ponies who were young and old were hurriedly moving about, ever since the economy had been disrupted as a result of the war against King Sombra all those years ago, it has been everypony for themselves with regards to making enough dough for a decent livelihood.
Meaning any families who were living in poverty or anything below middle-class had less than zero chance at climbing up the massive mountain they found themselves buried under. Any normal pony would’ve accept said fate, well not her ( it seemed ).
[ They’re not the ones who’ll be rolling in bits, cause I will! ]
Patty’s mood soon lifting, a swift turning of the head ensuing while she began heading to a nearby alleyway. Her hoof sticking on a wet newspaper laying on the ground, appearing quite persistent given how much she tried shaking it off. Almost lasting a whole minute until finally "un-sticking", landing with a wet plop as it landed on a puddle. Most likely caused by a shattered glass bottle resting a few steps away. The sight making her wince in disgust, taking deep breaths to calm her nerves for what was to come.
[ I mean, it worked yesterday! ]
Approaching the nearest wall, she’d elongate a upper appendage and place it upon the surface. Now standing upon both her lower legs, she would place another one onto it and commence climbing the wall. Conspicuously since equines, or any being in Equestria at all can’t stick to solid surfaces naturally, thus Patty Parker definitely felt ecstatic regarding her newfound capabilities.
[ Imagine if they saw me now! Look at me, I’m climbing up the wall! Even now, I still can’t believe it! ]
Like a dragon experiencing a gem-rush, she simply couldn’t stop herself and continued travelling up the alley’s wall. Progressing faster in speed until reaching the top, hefty breaths wheezing outward upon hooves finding residence amongst the building’s flat roof. Now gaining an incredible view of the whole city, she could even spot the "Statue Of Friendship"!
[ No way I could’ve seen it so clearly, from this distance at least! It really did improve my eyesight! These powers most definitely came from what happened two days ago. A spell simply couldn’t last this long… Plus, I doubt anyone in my school is so potent with magic to pull off something so unique.
Mostly because they wouldn’t have the brain cells. My body’s chemistry truly has changed, increasing my strength and physical capabilities. Improved eyesight and my magical grip! Fact I was able to climb walls using nothing but my bare hooves proves it!]
Breathing in that "Manehattan" air, Patty readied herself. Her head positioned forward, grey eyes carrying determination as her legs started speed-walking, then running. Eventually sprinting at incredible speeds, reaching the edge in mere seconds and as she did… She bent her knees and took a leap of faith, Patty Parker soared like a pegasus.
And it was amazing.
“YA-HOOOOOOOOO!” The earth pony exclaimed, not showing a hint of fear on her visage when gravity’s grasp began pulling her down. Instead, a forearm had been shot out. Hoof bending at a downward angle, out coming a strand of…
Webbing?
『 THWIP! 』
The strangely spun silk attaching itself onto a neighbouring building, momentum making her swing forward. Wind pushing her blond mane as adrenaline filled her veins like blood. She was having the time of her life right now! Was, being the most important word given how her face immediately met a billboard. Making her crash against it and slide down in a rather comedic fashion, thankfully there were a couple of garbage bags which cushioned her fall. Same could not be said for her personal pride.
“… Ow.” All she could say prior to having crawled her way out, awkwardly running out of sight. Now deciding it’s best she continue on hoof instead.
『 SKIIIID! 』
“You know what I don’t appreciate? I don’t appreciate the amateur psychoanalysis, son.” A stone-cold remark cutting the tension between two male ponies, a dark-green unicorn stallion and a young brown pegasus colt sitting on a stopped carriage parked in front of a tall multi-storied building. The stallion’s expression ( remaining ) disappointed at his kin, who was looking down in shame after hearing his response. Grumbling something inaudible, the adult pony stepped out of the carriage. Pausing right when he reached the building’s main doors, speaking to his son once more. Yet, not once did he face him at all.
“It’s not the company which I’m afraid of, Chain Corporate. It’s you, who I’m afraid of. Has it sunk in for you that you're now attending a public school? Are you aware of the ramifications of that? You will inherent ChainCorp, although have the name. You have not earned it, that is why I’m afraid.” He said, his horn glowing as the doors opened. Stepping into the building, he’d find himself greeted by two business ponies. One mare and one stallion, both of whom were adorned in black suits and baring wide smiles.
〝Greetings Mr. Corporate! I’m sure you must be interested in hearing about the latest increase in stock! 〞
❝ Or how we’ve got thirteen new clients willing to invest in our products to have them on their store shelves! ❞ Such praise, despite being spoken with "hammy-ness" as his griffon colleagues would toss when expressing their opinion regarding these "yes-stallions", did bring a smile on his face. MegaCorp, named after his grandfather Megalo Corporate was a rather expansive company. Not only helping progress technological advancements given Equestria’s recovery after the war against the Crystal Empire, but also producing healthcare drugs and potions used in hospitals.
His products were one of the best, no… The best on the market. A fact that gave him great pride, he lived on his pride. It was the only thing which sustains him. Levitating a cup of coffee within view, ❝ Um, sir that wasn’t for you. ❞ He took a sip as he gave an attentive look, either not listening or he simply didn’t care, both options seemed valid.
“Leave a letter at my desk regarding those topics, I need to prepare myself for my interview with Buried Lede in three hours.”
〝Yes sir! 〞
❝ Of course, sir! ❞ Once they left, he took a deep breath and teleported away.
Author's Note
Here we go, first story on FimFiction.Net! Instead of immediately showing you "the bite", I decided to have us more a little bit forward. Where our soon-to-be heroine is adjusting to her powers and interest in pursuing fame using them. And also introducing this universe’s versions of the Osborns. Or, the "Corporate" family. Because really, Spidey’s biggest villain being the CEO of a massive military corporation practically screams "eat the rich".
Patty Parker’s current characterization is intended to replicate the original Steve Ditko / Stan Lee portrayal of Peter Parker. AKA, back when he was a jerky teen who was incredibly bitter about pretty much everything. Don’t worry, she will go through character development. She wouldn’t be Spider-Mare if she was a jerk would she?
Next chapter we’ll be exploring Patty’s family and how she got her powers while exploring her school life and relationships. Plus Mr. Corporate’s slow descent into madness.
… What, everyone who knows even a slimmer of Spider-Man canon should expect it!
