Chapter 1
Butterscotch was in no way worthy of calling himself a pegasus, the fact that he at times wished he could've been born as an earth pony instead really adds to it. The lack of wing strength on him mainly called attention to him, in no way was it good attention more of a wave of harassment coming towards him in tidal waves.
Most targeted his inability to fly at a more casual and fleet footed pace, though others were more prone to bring to light his other features. Such as, the way he looks as, most think that he is way too girly to be a colt and others think that he is too much of a wuss to be one, this caused a lot of hard days of flight school for the younger butterscotch.
Though trying to stick up for himself, the poor pony could never fight past that damning shyness that cursed him, from the start he was always known as the shy one. A introverted and submissive pony that could never stick up for himself.
This all added into the fact that butterscotch, at times wishes that he was a different pony one that was more outgoing and extroverted than what he is. His view of himself lessened and lessened throughout his childhood, with little to no friends butterscotch found himself in a bout of depression. One that would leave him prone to thinking bad thoughts upon himself, further sealing his fate.
Yet all this changed when he was able to make friends with the most boisterous and outgoing pegasus at flight camp, a filly named rainbow dash, though at the time butterscotch confused her for another colt.
A young butterscotch stood in front of his locker, collecting his things as he would usually do after school. Lightly strapping a saddlebag onto himself, he would let out a soft yet barely audible hum that filled the echoey room. He had finally caught a break, his after school activities had finished without any problems, able to at last collect his things and leave for his house without interruption from his tormentors.
Or so he thought, he would be too caught up in his own thoughts to notice the door softly creak open, a small group of older colts slowly and carefully stepped into the room. Softly chattering to one another as they all collectively focused onto the yellow pegasus.
A small flick of his ear would cause butterscotch to move his head from the inside of his locker and gaze over to his side, his facial expression quickly turning into one of fear and shock. The sound of a book falling from his gaping mouth would make him flinch back, much to the amusement of the group of colts.
"Hey butterscotch? Afraid of a little book!?" A gruff voice would suddenly call out from the laughter, making the uproar once again pick up. This would spark the others to let out heckles of their own "what a wimp!"
Their collective laughter and insults would make butterscotch's ears fold down and make him instinctively bow his head down, his soft voice suddenly speaking out.
"W-we don-dont nee-" only for his boutbof stuttering that he called an attempt at reasoning with them to be drowned out by the leader suddenly calling out, his mouth contorted into a grin "w-w-w-we- look at you! Cant even speak at the sight of another pony! No wonder everypony makes fun of you!" His show of copying how butterscotch speaks making his friends laugh once more.
Butterscotch would continue keeping his head down, his ears firmly planted against his head as he found no other place appropriate. His quivering lip would be hidden by the locks of his pink mane falling and covering his face partly.
He closed his eyes and hoped that these ponies would simply have their fill of maming fun of him before leaving him alone, hopefully without physical contact this time.
Yet he was sure mistaken once more, because as soon as he closed his eyes he could hear the collective sound of hoofsteps getting closer. His eyes would open and he would look up at the group, slightly taking a step back as the leader was now up close and personal.
"Anyways butterscotch...what did I tell you would happen if my boys and I caught you slinking around after school?" He would say while pressing a hoof into butterscotch's chest to expedite his point. The smaller colt would cringe at the painful memory, he would slowly nod his head, before finally raising his head and trying to justify why he was here.
"I.." butterscotch futilely tried to get his point across, to tell him that his club activities left him a little la-
His own thoughts would be rudely interrupted by a solid object colliding with butterscotch's muzzle, this would have enough force to drop fluttershy onto his back, the saddlebag dropping onto the floor next to him. The low moan of pain would come from the yellow pegasus as he placed a hoof to his muzzle, cringing and hissing at the pain.
"Wrong answer!" The cruel laughter would sound from above as the leader placed his red hoof onto butterscotch's stomach, causing him to try and squirm away. He would press it further as to make it more painful, his head turning to the side and nodding to one of the other ponies in his group. He had something planned for the yellow pegasus, a malicious one at that.
"P-plea-Agh!" The pained voice of the yellow pegasus would ring out in a futile fight against his aggressor, failing pitifully as he was once again struck by the same red hoof holding him down.
"Shut up! Did I say you could speak? Did I say he could speak?" He voiced to the ones behind him, who all nodded their heads in a collective vote of affirmation.
"Than why the buck are you trying to speak!" He would say while dishing out another strike against the defenses butterscotch.
"Spear" another voice would suddenly call out, the red coated stallion would turn over to a deep blue colored pegasus, grinning as he caught sight of the object in their hoof.
"Oh yeah..didnt I say I would shave you down if we caught you?" He said while taking the razor into his hoof, a devilish grin appearing on his face as he stared down at butterscotch.
"Hold him down.."
As the worst left his mouth, butterscotch panicked and tried to fight against the colts who now had his wings and hooves straddled to the ground, his heart beating and the tears nos falling freely from his eyes. He knew this would happen, if he wasnt so careless he could've gotten what he needed and gotten out. His thoughts would race as he stared up at the menacing red stallion, trying to speak against this.
"I-im sorry! Spearwing p-p-please!"
Spearwing, now having enough of the pegasus walked up to him once again and knelt down in front of him, pressing razor against the middle of butterscotch's barrel. He grinned at the yellow pegasus helpless cries and clicked the razor on, the loud buzzing overtaking his voice as he slowly shaved downwards.
"Oh you'll be sorry alright.. sorry whe-" his voice was interrupted by the loud banging of the door slamming against the wall. He sneered and turned to face the pony who decided to walk in-
"What in celestia's name are you all doing! Let go of him!" A loud authoritative voice called out, spearwings expression turned into one of surprise as he was now facing the tall and stern gym teacher. His face twisted into one of anger, he let the razor drop and stood up to try and reason with him.
"Listen, coach pulse it's not what it looks like!" He would try, before getting drowned out by the loud voice.
"Dont try and use that excuse on me! Its exactly what it looks like! Now I want all of you in my office! I swear to celestia I am so angry that I wish I could.." he drawled off before pointing towards them with a muscular hoof.
The group of colts all stood there for a bit before quickly letting go of butterscotch and quickly moving to and out the door of the room, lead by a just as quick spearwing. Butterscotch would curl in on himself once the hols on him was gone, the razor that laid on his stomach now sliding off and onto the floor, the buzzing mindlessly going off.
Tears would be profusely coming out of his eyes as he quietly cried to himself, haphazardly rubbing the spot that was shaved off of him during that dreadful event. He would ignore the gym teacher letting out a sigh as he spoke to another pony "Rainbow dash, please stay with Butterscotch until I come back..I've got to go and deal with those stallions..." he would finish off before his hoof steps retreated out of the room.
"Sure coach!" A scratchy tone would call out to the retreating teacher before the clipping of their hoofsteps neared the crying yellow pegasus.
Butterscotch would come to acknowledge the pony once their voice spooked him from the suddenness. "Hey.. are you ok? I'm sorry I didnt bring the teacher earlier" they would apologize. His eyes would open slightly and through teary vision, he could see the cyan colored pony sitting right next to him.
Letting out a small noise, he would close his eyes once again place his hooves in front of his face, in fear that this pony would taunt him too. "P-pl-.." he couldn't even finish his plea as his tears over took him, he now lay there balling his eyes out in front of a random pony, letting them see how pitiful he was.
The cyan pony would take a look at the crying pegasus form, something inside her usual laid back and confident attitude would cringe at the sight. "Listen..butterscotch, is it? I'm not going to hurt you.." she would finally manage to say before rubbing a hoof behind her hear.
"Please, the crying just makes me feel bad.. can you look at me?" She would ask, her tone quieting down to one that would not make the stallion panic even more than he already was.
Butterscotch would let out one more sob before his thoughts interrupted him, there was a chance that this pony was actually being truthful, yet there was also that chance they would make fun of him now that the teacher has gone. Yet, as he cracked open an eye and lowered his hooves to take another look at his cyan savior, he took in the look in her eyes and came to a decision.
Rainbow dash, now having been looking at the sobbing pegasus and taking in his form took notice of the colt looking at her from the corner of her eye. She turned and faced him, grimacing slightly as the yellow pegasus flinched at her movement, she shook her head slightly before holding out a hoof.
"There we go.. my names dash, rainbow dash! The fastest pegasus in equestria!" She would proudly comment to herself before giving a small smile and adding in "and, your new friend."
Butterscotch let his mouth hang open for a bit before his thoughts once again flooded his senses 'friend? Really? They want to be friends?' He would let the word hang in his head for a few seconds before lowering his hooves completely and staring at her with his tearful eyes. "R-re-ally?" He would hopefully ask in his soft and shaky voice, fearing that she would take the chance to deny and humiliate him as others did before her.
Rainbowdash looked at the colt and grinned, once he decided to look at her as she asked. She immediately took in how cute he actually looked, she shook the blush away before immediately retorting with "of course! Why wouldn't I? Everypony deserves a friend! And one just as cool as me!" She would say while holding a hoof to her chest
The yellow colt looked at the cyan pegasus with a look of astonishment, on the inside he was crying out with joy. Yet on the outside, he unfurled himself and pushed himself back up so he could look at the filly muzzle to muzzle, or rather muzzle to chest.
A small smile would form onto his face as he felt the tears coming once again, he leaned forward and wrapped his hooves around the mare in a surprising show of speed. He pressed his face against her chest before softly letting out a "thank you" before once again starting to cry, though this time in happiness. He had finally made a friend.
Rainbow dash, didnt expect the hug from butterscotch, better yet expect him to be so small! She was surprised at the sudden contact from him and immediately wanted to try and pushed him off before she heard him.
"Thank you"
Her cheeks reddened as she looked down at the stallion crying into her chest, she forgoed her usual appalment to situations like this and gave a grin. Before wrapping her hooves around him and returning the hug. "Your welcome."
On that day, a friendship was born-
Butterscotch lay on his side against the soft blades of grass, a small smile would be fitted onto his face as he looked down at a small garden snake coiled around his yellow hoof, he giggled softly as he raised the snake up and stroked its back with his free hoof. "oh Mr. snake I wish I could stay here with you for longer.." he gave a small sigh as he looked at the green colored snakes black eyes, it would tilt its head and give a small hiss of concern towards the yellow pegasus. He gave a small smile before lowering his hoof against the grass and gave a small jerk, letting the snake uncoil itself from his hoof and slither back a few feet away before turning towards butterscotch. He smiled softly and waved as the snaked hissed softly in response before turning and slithering back into a bush that lay a few feet away, leaving the yellow pegasus to sigh and lower his head onto the ground. ''to be an earth pony...if only"
''What about an earth pony?" a sudden and loud voice would call out from above him, startling the yellow pegasus as he let out a small 'eep' and jumped a few feet into the air, his body shaking as he peeked at the shadow below him and slowly turned his head up and gave a small sight at the sight of the cyan pegasus. "oh rainbow dash, its just you..." he nervously said while looking down and fiddling with her fore hooves. "I..i"
Rainbow dash cringed as the colt continued to try and utter out one single word, she rubbed the back of her head before giving a smile "it's fine butterscotch, I was just teasing.. anyways, what's got you all the way down here..hanging out with animals? The wingpower test is in like.. A few minutes" she would say while hiding the slight eagerness In her voice, she grinned as the colt meekly nodded. She knew she would top the charts, there was no doubt about it, though she did worry about the score her shy friend would make.
"If that's got ya down, dont sweat it! I'm sure you'll ace it!" She would encouragingly say to the yellow colt before lifting herself up into the air with a flap of her wings. She glanced back down to the colt who had not moved from his place, in fact he had curled in on himself and started soft muttering to himself.
"Butterscotch?" The prismatic filly would call out in confusion before landing back down and walking over to him, she sat down on her haunches and looked down at him. "Cmon buddy, something eating ya?" She would say while placing a hoof lightly upon his back.
"O-oh.. rainbowdash..wh-what if I dont pass..?" He would stutter as he craned his blue eyes up at his friend, he had come down from the flight academy to spend some time with the animal friends he had made. Though through circumstances that were not good, he had found himself returning back every so often to visit or to relieve himself of stress, finding sanctity with the little critters. He had forgotten all about the test before rainbow dash brought it up again, but when she did it made his heart beat faster and his raise his fear levels tenfold. "S-pe-spear wing...he..said I wouldnt past.." he said while pressing his muzzle against grass at knowing the colt had seemingly been given a lesser punishment as he showed up to school a week after the event, a small groan emitting from him, he knew it was true.
"I-I am the slowest one out of every pony.." he sighed before placing both hooves over his muzzle, content on staying hidden from the world and living in his own resolute darkness. Though that was until rainbow dash narrowed her eyes "did he now?" Her voice would be one laced with a bit of annoyance as she huffed to herself, though not expressing her anger to not spook her shy friend, her body language emitted it quite expressively. "Didnt that punk learn the last time..." she muttered out the last part before looking back down to the yellow pegasus who had looked up what her with those doe eyes, her anger disappearing as she gave a small sigh.
"Now you know that isnt true! You're plenty fast, and sure you aren't the fastest flier but that doesnt mean you the slowest!" She would exclaim towards the yellow pegasus, a complimentary tone as she continued on. "And you're still more of a stallion than he is anyways! I've never seen spear wing literally stare down a bald eagle, literally! You had it scared to death" she finished by giving the colt a pat on the back, he had given a small smile up at her, his cheeks now showing a faint tint of red to them.
Butterscotch, having listening to rainbow dash's words of encouragement, felt himself blush as he glanced up at her with a thankful look. He felt his lips quiver as he pushed himself up and sat down on his haunches, looking slightly up at the filly he sheepishly smiled at her, she had always been so encouraging to him and by her own will too! He had always been so down on himself before she came, she'd always find a way to make his self doubts dribble away.
Moved by this, he gave the biggest smile he could before leaning forwards and wrapping his hooves around the cyan filly, who gave a small laugh as she quickly glanced around before returning the hug. "Oh..thank you Rainbow!" He said while letting out a few small tears of joy, before quickly removing his grip around her and nervously lowering his head "s-sorry.." he would apologize almost immediately afterwards.
Rainbow dash, having not expected the hug felt her cheeks redden before she quickly shook her head and gave a small laugh, looking around their surroundings before returning the hug. True, she didn't really enjoy physical affection but she couldn't really hate it when it came to butterscotch, he was different than most and almost immediately apologized if he ever did something he thought offended some pony. The small colt really did leave an impression on her from when they met, though at the beginning it was a small show of pity, though now she secretly liked the hugs he would give.
"Ahh, it's fine butters!" She would notice the colt's demeanor quickly changing and jumped almost immediately, exclaiming a quick and easy refute. She looked down at the yellow pegasus with a grin, keeping it there until he would finally lift his head and stare directly at her, flinching a bit before slowly but surely forming his expressions into a nervous smile of his own. "Keep the hugs till after I score first in the test! I'm sure to blow every ponies socks off!" she decided to further drive the conversation towards the up coming test.
She would lift her wings and flap up into the air, now come on!" she would excitedly say to him before gaining altitude and flew in a circle around him, in her head she was imagining all the things and events that would spark if a scouter were to be watching her, even better if it were a wonderbolt scouter! she was salivating at the thought. A cocky grin would be upon her face as she kept subconsciously circling around her shy pegasus friend, who was at the moment getting dizzier and dizzier as his head tried to follow rainbow dash around and around, his teal eyes would start to cross as he did a full 360, slowly shaking his head back and forth as he tried regaining his balance. As he came to, his eyes would widen a bit as he noticed his over exuberant friend drift off her path and on her way to crash head first into a tree, he tried to call out to her but his voice was sadly too low for her to hear through her musings.
''O-oh rainbow dash... watch out for that-" he would say while straightening himself and unfurling his wings, mouth firmed into a small 'o' shape as he watched her spin in the air and suddenly 'THUD' he would close his eyes and and wince at the noise the impact made, he slowly opened his eyes and looked over to the cyan filly with a feeling of concern rising in his stomach. Quickly lifting off of the ground and quickly hovering himself over towards the pegasus, his hoof raising to his mouth as he made the short flight and landed softly on his hooves " Oh Rainbow.. are you alright..? d-do you need to go to the..nurse?" he would shoot off in a quick tangent, bending down and looking to see if there were any prominent damage done to her. Though knowing rainbow, he surmised in the back of his head that she would shrug it off and be alright in a few seconds.
''Oww... darn tree!" Rainbow dash would say loudly while rubbing the top of her head with a hoof, she winced at the painful throbbing her hoof tip irritated, opening her eyes she narrowed her eyes as she glanced up at the tree with a look of malice, this look quickly dropped when she heard the timid voice of her friend suddenly call out next to her. She gave a huff and dropped the look, placing her hooves beneath her and pushing herself up into a sitting position, she waved a hoof at Butterscotch's speech of worry before looking over at him, giving a small laugh she tried to ease the concern building up in him "Pfft! it's nothing Butters, a little tree won't do anything to a hard headed pegasus like me!" she would say proudly, even though she dissed herself at the end.
"Anyways Butterscot- Butters?"
Butterscotch wasn't deterred by his friends lack of self wellness, he narrowed his eyes slightly and cleared his throat, getting the attention of his cyan friend before nodding slightly to himself before speaking with a surprising firmness in his voice. "N-now Rainbow Dash...I know you you're quick to confirm that you are okay... but you just hit yourself in the head with that tree, and at a quick speed too! and I wont...I won't let you hard hardheadedness keep yourself from being healthy... now please.. let me take you to the nurse's office?" he would finish off by craning his head down and giving Rainbow Dash a look, hoping she would give in.
Rainbow Dash would've cut off Butterscotch, but her words were caught in her throat as she took in the face that Butterscotch was giving her right now, her usual attitude would suddenly drop as she her thoughts quickly ran through he mind,if cute looks could kill, Butterscotch would've given her a heart attack by all the feelings of concern he was giving off. She gave a small cough before lifting a hoof to her face before looking off to the side in an attempt to avoid the glance she was being given, shaking her head as she fought off the blush perfectly clear across her face, though Butterscotch was apparently clueless to this as he pressed forwards, letting his lip tremble for added in effect. ''Damn his cuteness..'' she would mutter to herself before turning back towards Butterscotch, sighing as she let her head fall she relented. "Fine Butters.. if you insist!" she said while rubbing the back of her head before her mouth would form into a sneaky grin. "Buuut... we'll go my way!" she would add in as she watched Butterscotch's grin fall.
"Oh thank you Rainbow Dash!" the yellow colt would be ecstatic as his gaze lingered on the pegasus for a few more seconds before he realized what she said to him, he knew how fast and how crazy she would fly just for fun! He gave a small sheepish grin and took a small step back as he watched her jump to her hooves and look at him. Putting a hoof up to try and halt her advances, he suddenly lost his confidence and started stuttering out useless excuses before giving a small sigh of defeat and dropping his hoof back down onto the soft grass. "Please be gentle..".
Rainbow Dash gave a laugh at the yellow colts statement, rubbing the top of her head quickly and feeling a small yet fading sense of pain in her. "Hah, well see about that!" She had by now stood up and closed the distance between them, smirking down at the shy pegasus before giving a small flap of her wings, quickly hovering up and wrapping her hooves around his slim midsection. "Alright...ready Butters?..." she asked not even bothering to look down, grinning to herself before suddenly.
"Uh Rainbow..i-im not su-RRREE!" his soft voice would be drowned out by the interjection of Rainbow Dash suddenly calling out "let's go!" And they were immediately in the air, his voice lingered out into a small but surprise exclamation as he looked down at the grass getting farther and farther away. His heart started racing as he looked up at the face of rainbow, a tight grin would be plastered onto her as they sped into the air. "R-ra..Rainbow slow down!" He would try calling out over the wind jabbing against his face.
"What's that Butterscotch!? Speed up and do some cool tricks?! Alright, you asked for it!" She would retort back to him, internally laughing as she knew that was nowhere close to what he asked in the first place.
"T-thats not what I said!" He would cry out as he snapped his eyes closed and pressed his hooves closer to his body, praying to celestia that this would end soon.
To be continued.
Plenty of loud and overdramatic cheers and laughter were currently drowning out the sounds of a softer and more panicked voice, Rainbow Dash, the self proclaimed fastest pegasus in equestria was currently taking her friend for the flight of his life. When he urged her to be taken to the nurses office she was quick to shrug it off as no big deal, though with some extra encouragement from Butterscotch, she was now carrying the colt there at top speeds. Even if she was forced to go to the nurse, she thought it was justified that she give butterscotch a little semblance of payback for using his eyes against her.
She gave a final bout of laughter as she finished off pulling off one of the many, many flips during their flight and finally spotted their destination, a small building built upon a cloud that bore the simplistic metallic design, but a small sign bore the emblem of a bandage. Along with the fact that it literally had a bright green tag that spelled out the name 'nurse' ponies still found it abit difficult to find, much to Butterscotchs chagrin and Rainbows amusement.
Descending down and slowing down into a small hover as she gently set the yellow colt down onto the soft cloud, she than followed suit by plopping down next to him, a large grin upon her face as she gave a small stretch of her hooves. She turned her head lightly to the side and took in the state that her friend was in, currently barely being able to stay on all four legs and shaking as if he had seen a ghost, his hair had now looked much like hers, uncombed and messy. Her grin would turn into a small smile as she sighed and turns fully towards the colt, waving a hoof in front of his face "yo, Butters? Equis to Butters?" Giving a more drawn out sigh as she gained no sign of response, she relented and tried again.
"Butterscotch!"
Butterscotch on the other hoof, was currently taking figurative deep breathes as he tried to find his footing on the cushiony surface of the cloud, he wasnt paying attention to his surroundings and didnt notice his friends attempts at bringing him out of it. He was happier in his happy place that his mind immediately brought him to once Rainbow Dash commenced her interpretation of flying, though he was quickly brought out of it as a loud and scratchy voice pierced through his eardrums. Feeling his ears immediately flop down onto the sides of his head, which immediately followed suit by dragging his whole face down and impacting the cloud, his legs having given up on him and dropping the rest of his body onto the ground as he covered the top of his head with his two front hooves. A small and very coltly ''eep!'' Was not let out from his muzzle.
"Agh, I'm sorry Butterscotch!" Was the first thing that came out of Rainbow Dash's mouth, surprising her as she brought a hoof to her mouth before shaking her head and reaching out with it, feeling her view on herself fall as she apologized. "Y-yeah.. sorry about that, you weren't responding and the the only thing that really came to mind.." she sheepishly grinned before lightly placing her hoof onto the colts back, awkwardly rubbing at it while giving a small sigh and looking off to the side. "Yeah.. my bad". She would say before a movement beneath her hoof made her head snap back down to the colt, who had let out a small groan and unconvered his face and slowly and absentmindedly let the cyan hoof slide off his back, the pink strands of hair drooping down and partly obscuring his face as he turned his head towards her.
Butterscotch would admittedly have kept his head down if it were any pony else that had spooked him before, though he trusted Rainbow Dash dearly and that partly encouraged him to raise himself back up. Hed sigh internally at the sight of his hair out of shape and all over the place, tentatively using a hoof to brush the strands away and further along the side of his head, smiling softly as he looked back towards the filly. "Oh..its alright Rainbow.." he would say as he shakily rose to his hooves and fully turned his whole body in her direction, smiling at her as he continued "I forgive you..." he watched as she quickly stood up and looked down at him ready to say something else before interrupted, he would quickly reach a hoof out and lightly booped her muzzle "and that's for pulling those stunts while carrying me...please never do that again.." he finished while looking at her with a smug grin, for about two seconds before he blushed and fell onto his haunches and covered up his face "o-oh I'm so sorry..please don't be mad at me.." he quickly breathed out in a barely audible tone.
Rainbow Dash gave a small sigh of relief as she quickly rose to her hooves and went to tell her friend that she wouldnt do it again, she was abruptly interrupted by Butterscotch accepting her apology like he always did, not meeting her eye and blushing as he did, this made Rainbow Dash sigh mentally before she widened her eyes. Quickly removing the thought from her head, she focused on the yellow colt as he suddenly formed an out of place expression, smugly looking up at her before reaching out his hoof, she was about to question him before she felt her cheeks heat up once again. Butterscotch had booped her on her muzzle and tried to teasingly play it off, but failed immediately she to his albeit annoying self nature. The blush on her face had disappeared and she looked down to the pegasus who lost his composure and dropped onto his butt, apologizing profusely as she awkwardly placed a hoof to the back of her head and grinned. "Ahh Butters, you know I cant ever be mad at you!" She would quickly think to say, before quickly remembering why they came here originally. "Anyway, Werent you so bent on taking me to the nurses? Or Did you forget?" She said with a sly grin.
After a few seconds of silence, the colt would let out a small intake of air before quickly snapping his head to the cyan filly, eyes narrowing in a surprisingly intimidating way. Rainbiw Dashe would've been proud of the colt if it weren't for him adding a soft and caring smile. "Oh yes, let us continue" he would say softly, walking towards the buildings door and placing a hoof over the handle, looking behind to the slightly flustered Rainbow Dash. "If you would? Please?" He would say with the tilt of his head.
''This kid could melt iron with just one look'' she would mumble slightly to her self before swiftly following behind the yellow colt. Helping pull the door open as she watched him give a few tugs, she grinned slightly and let Butterscotch walk in front of her.
~~
After an awkward visit to the nurses office, and a light scolding from butterscotch to rainbow dash the duo returned shortly thereafter to the main field cloud to participate in the test. Very much expected was rainbow dash to not only break the record, but do it in a flash manner the whole way. Of course, butterscotch was quite happy for his friend and the colt let some small, very soft cheers for the filly.
Though when it came to his turn, he or course found himself to be placed on the scale ranking 'below average' on both wing span and the speed test. As expected also, the insults and jabs were thrown at the small colt with little chance of stopping, due to the teacher being busy measuring the foals who have yet to take the test. His head sunk low and he felt the tell tale signs of tears starting to form at the edges of his eyes, he tried in vain to block out the insults but it was proven too much as he dropped onto the floor and covered his head.
His attempts to block out the rude and crude bouts from his fellow pegasi were less than fruitful, he bad been internally berating himself also, even though he knew he shouldn't. 'stupid...stupid..' it wasn't hit fault that he wasnt able to fly as well as the other ponies right? It was just unfortunate that he was born like this, yes that's it..
After what felt like hours of his body being pressed against the cloudy surface beneath him, facing waves and waves of laughter and insults a voice cut through the wave, a familiar scratchy and friendly voice.
"Hey.. HEY!"
The colts hooves would shift themselves so that there was a small hole he could peek through, after blinking for a few seconds he could recognize the blue figure of his friend. Though a bit more riled up than usual, her wings flapped every so often when she would finish a sentence, her eyes narrowed and nostrils flaring.
"What the buck so you think you guys are doing!?"
"Making fun of somepony just for being slow?!"
He flinched out of instinct, yes he had seen rainbow dash get mad at a few ponies though he never really did see the full extent of her anger. 'Oh my..'
"Its alot more than being slow crash!"
A gruff voice called out, both the fillies and colts eyes would shift toward the cold who spoke up. Brown fur and hair just a few shades darker than his fur that hung over his eyes, leaving his smug grin visible.
"Just look at him! Small. Weak. Pathetic! Why do you even bother with him? We all know you're doing this out of Pity...being friends with that pathetic excuse of a pegas-AGH!"
The more and more butterscotch listened to the larger colt rant about him, brought more and more reasoning for him to further think badly of himself. He couldn't deny most of the things he was hearing shouted, he let out a hardly audible sigh and let his hooves close the hole giving him sight. He closed his eyes again and relented to continue being disse-
POW!
The sound of a hoof impacting against the face of the colts face was what brought silence, the pained groan of the previously boisterous colt was now what only filled the crowds ears. The prismatic manned fully stood over him, In the process of dropping her hoof back onto the ground, small huffs and puffs were what came out of her.
"How dare you.."
She was the one to break the silence as she took a step back, keeping her glare fixed onto the downed colt.
"How dare you say those things about him! Butterscotch us my friend, and I wont stand for you and your dick riding friends always pushing him around and making his life miserable!"
Everypony stared wide eyed at the filly and her use of words, obviously they dont have the ability to speak without their precious leader starting it off.
Butterscotch on the other hand, flinched at the crude usage of the vulgar slang used to describe the male reproductive organ. Yet, he was shocked and flattered that rainbow dash would do something like this.
"Honestly, the only pathetic one here is you...resorting to seducing a group of ponies to bend to your will..."
"Y-youll regret this crash..."
The shaky voice of the stallion rang out, now clutching at his muzzle that displayed the dripping of blood, being helped up by a few of his 'friends' he unfurled his wings and took to the air.
"Let's get out of here guys.."
With the sound of many wings unfurling and flapping, rainbow dash would scoff and furl her wings back to her sides as the group flee away.
"Idiot's.." she would mumble before turning to the yellow colt, shaking her head to rid herself of the angered expression she changed into a softer one and approached him.
"Butters, Are you alright?"
The cowering pegasus didnt acknowledged the filly in his bout of inner contemplation, small mumbles were being sputtered out from behind the pegasus hoof shield. Thoughts mulling over the president event that happened just a few moments ago.
"Butters..can you look at me?"
She let out fight before she stopped right in front of him, glancing to her sides before dropping down onto her stomach she could look the colt in the face, well hooves. She gave a sad grin while glancing over the pegasus, the shakiness that he was exhibiting and the quiet mumbles she could just barely makeout.
"..I'm sorry..i-i.. I'm sorry I'm so pitiful.."
Her eyes creased as she made out the words, she outstretched a hoof and slowly placed it atop of the colts head. she frowned as he flinched from the touch, she scooted closer a bit before speaking softly.
"Butters..you have nothing to be sorry for, you're my best friend and nothing will ever change that...no matter what."
When she finished her attempt of comfort, she could hear the sound of his voice get quieter and quieter until he was no longer speaking. His body still slightly shook haphazardly but it was less prominent than before she chased the bullies away.
".really..?"
"Butters...have I ever not proven I wasn't your friend?"
"You can trust me butterscotch, please just look at me and I will prove to it.."
Her hoof removed itself from atop the colts head and back down to her side, she schooched her so that she was laying in front of him, her magenta eyes staring at him expectantly. "Please.."
Behind the colts watery eyes, he was internally mulling over the words of his only friend, her whole disposition was different, her voice soft and soothing and her words sincere. It made him feel worse as he knee the things she said about their friendship was true, she had never made him doubt their friendship and he never found reason to distrust her.
Yet, why was he feeling like this? A feeling where you know that the pony is right, but still feel.. Butterscotch didnt know how the word the feeling in his own head. He let out a small groan and focused back on the last words that rainbow dash spoke to him.
'Please' the colt had only heard the pegasus use that word once for its proprietary meaning and the rest of the time for her sarcastic remarks. Yet the other time she used the word like she was now, was in a very similar situation.. she had saved him and shown him care like no other pony had done.
He had come to an agreement withing himself, he was dumb to doubt the filly for even a second and was even dumber for taking this long too come to that conclusion. He let out a sniff before slowly removing his hooves and lifting his head, with a small part of his lips he spoke out in a timid manner.
"I..I trust y-you.."
Before he knew it, he was pulled forwards and brought into a soft and warm embrace by the filly, his eyes widened slightly as his train of thought offrailed for a few surprising seconds. He lightly craned his head upwards from the fillies chest fluff and looked up to see her looking back down at him with a grin, though he swore he could see some liquid he was quite familiar with forming at her eyes.
"Thank you.. for trusting me.. like I said, you are a friend I would never want to lose Butters.."
The colt was speechless, a red hue brightly forming onto his muzzle and spreading across his whole face caused him to turn his head down and press into her chest, wrapping his hooves around her. He had always felt the happiest when rainbow hugged him, or atleast when he hugged her and she hugged back.
Though this time, she hugged him deliberately and he was more than okay with that. A large smile would form on his face as he nuzzled the fillies chest, he was happy.
"T-thank you.. Rainbow Dash.."

I finally wrote something for this story, the one I originally planned on fleshing out before 'little pony' popped into my mind
Anyways, I've already fixed the mistakes in that story. I just haven't found the time to upload them.
Chapter 5
Flying as fast as she could through the darkening sky, the two pegasus finally made it to the generously sized cloud house she lived in with her mom. The taller of the two reached into an oddly placed potted plant near the front door and hoofed out a key from inside it. She unlocked the door and pressed forwards a little harder than usual, though regretting it slightly as Butterscotch flinched at the noise.
Rainbow Dash was slightly disappointed yet not surprised that her mom wasn’t home whenever she slammed the door open, having been told before hoof that her mother had gotten the day off. She set down her yellow friend a few feet inside before turning back towards the door, shutting it, and reaching up to lock it. Suspicion arose when she didn’t hear the hoofsteps or her name being called out by her mom, she let out a call and waited for a few moments though obviously as it would seem, and by the note, she just found that her mom had to actually go into work today. She squinted her eyes in a slight show of annoyance but dropped it once she looked over at her timid friend sitting in a ball, there was no time to be angry when she had to attend to her traumatized and injured friend. Quickly closing the distance between them, she nudged him slightly with her hoof to get his attention, smiling softly as his head slowly lifted and turned towards her.
“My mom isn’t home so i’ll have to help clean you up, cmon.”
Her usual nature was always filled with a lack of patience and was always trying to speed things up, but as of recently when ever she befriended this little pegasus it had her two sides conflicting with each other. There was one side that couldn’t support having an emotional and timid friend at all times, but then there was the side that enjoyed it, not that she didn’t enjoy his company in totality. He was a great friend once you got to know him, but sometimes it’s the personality that is difficult to get around.
She sighed once more, what even was she talking about? She pushed away those thoughts and focused on the now, calmly leading her friend towards the bathroom with the intent to try and at least fix the bruises and scrapes he had. Passing by the tons upon tons of trophies lining the hallway they passed, she didn’t pay it much attention though found herself curious once she found Butterscotch to be glancing at them. Letting out a small joke at her own expense “now you see this is what I meant when I said I was really good at hitting my head.” chuckling slightly as she saw the smallest of smiles form on his face.
Once the two of them reached the end of the hallway, she walked up towards the door and opened it, giving entry to the bathroom for the both of them. It was rather spacious than it seemed from the outside, she’d always take a step back and take in the room in its entirety when she was younger than she was now. She hovered up and flicked on the bathroom lights, of course, she’d been already describing the room when neither of them could actually see what was inside, she sighed mentally. Shaking her head she landed back down and turned to him, motioning to the top of the counter with her head.
“Alright, let’s get you up there.”
Without much of a noise, she placed both of her hooves under his arms litany and easily hoisting him up. Before hovering up once more and placing him up onto the counter, turning away and then reaching up towards the medicine cabinet. A thought came to her head as she tried to find the right bottle to use.
'I should measure Butters later, just to see how much he weighs exactly.. it's a stretch, even for me, to be able to bodily pick him up like that. But that can wait, I think I-'
"Aha!"
Pushing aside what she originally had in mind, she grasped a brown bottle and set it down behind her. She took a second to steal a glance at her friend, being able to actually take in the full battered appearance as opposed to when they were covered in darkness.
Her halted anger popped up once again at the sight, eyes narrowing almost immediately than just as quickly faltering. Her timid friend having flinched back from the sight, she felt a twinge at her chest. Agreeing that she would justify her anger in an alley sometime in the near future.
"I'm sorry Scotch, just a little peeved." She would calmly say before setting down the bottle. Reaching back Into the cabinet and easily finding the first aid kit kept in there. From experience, of course.
"I'm sorry."
With a huff she faced away from the cabinet and approached him, sitting down across from him and setting the kit between them. Giving him a look as she flipped open the lid and looked for what she needed "listen, I know its secondhoof for you to apologize. But you've got to stop when it comes to every little thing, alright?".
He tilted his head in slight confusion at the comment before turning his gaze downwards.
"..oh.."
"It's not your fault that you're being treated like this, not at all." She finished that statement with a bit of venom in her voice as she pulled out a cotton ball, grabbing the bottle with an offhand and getting ready for what she was about to do.
"You have nothing to apologize for and no one to apologize to, especially the ones who treat you like crap!" She stopped and tried to compose herself, not wanting to get too aggressive and scare the small colt.
"It just.. makes me feel weird when you do that? Like, I don't get it. But it's not something that's deserved.. especially after all of this " She stated while motioning to his appearance, unscrewing the lid of the bottle with her mouth and setting it aside, she gripped the bottle tightly and lightly dabbed the cotton into it.
"But I don't really wanna think about that right now, I just wanna clean you up and relax..sound good?" She finished with a smile pointed in his direction, staring at his lowered gaze for a bit before he finally met her gaze and gave a small smile. Nodding in confirmation, a small blush was attributed to that, making the rainbow haired filly lightly cough at her thoughts.
Moving to change the situation, she set down the bottle and beckoned him closer, it took a few seconds before he mustered the courage to do so. Eyeing the cotton ball in her hoof behind his overcast of messy pink hair, but his trust beat out his fear and he scooted closer to her.
She grinned softly before reaching for his hoof, slowly as to show him what she was doing, then extending it towards her and looking at him. "I'm just going to dab this on your cuts to make sure they don't get infected ok? It won't hurt a bit, you'll just feel some small bubbles."
"Ready?"
He slowly nodded and looked away from what she was doing, she'd quickly dab over the small cuts she found along his hoof before moving onto the next one. After doing so with the rest of the cuts she was able to see, she finished them off by placing Wonderbolt branded bandages onto them.
"Alright, I just need to take a look at your face ok?"
"..ok.."
She disliked how defeated he sounded, much different from his normal self. Though once she focused back on his face she frowned, only one eye was really visible from the way his hair was dropped over.
"I'm just going to brush your hair out of the way so I can see better, ok?" She patiently waited for an answer as his eyes drifted downwards then upwards, looking as if he were debating something mentally. Rainbow Dash had learned to notice this of Butterscotch whenever he was afraid of doing something.
"It's going to be alright, I just need to see if you got any bad bruises on your face or cuts."
"I..ok, please don't overreact…" the colt muttered softly, though she was able to hear it.
"I promise." She nodded and gently pushed his hair to the side, being able to see what would've made her blow up if she hadn't promised to not overreact. His left eye having no cuts as far as she could tell but instead, the tell tale signs of a black eye were visible. But she just couldn't help herself and let out a half controlled exclamation.
"Sweet Celestia Scotch'...a black eye!"
The colt flinched back and his hair fell back over his face and lut of her grasp, she grit her teeth and cursed herself internally. She didn't mean to yell, it just couldn't be held in.
Immediately she started apologizing.
"I'm sorry Butters, it just slipped out. Please forgive me? I swear, I won't yell again.." it was never something she liked doing when it came to other ponies, apologizing. She was too headstrong to do so, but still, when it came to Butterscotch. Her demeanor flipped.
"..s'okay..I know you didn't mean..it" her panicked face changed and brightened up once she heard him, sighing mentally in relief. The last thing she wanted was for Butterscotch to shy away from her like that, it didn't sit right with her. She closed her eyes and spoke "thanks buddy.." before opening them and glancing over his figure.
The yellow colt was facing her once more and was now fiddling his bandaged hooves close to his little chest. Fixing his gaze to meet her eyes before drifting down once more, looking as if he wanted to ask something. But from experience, she could already tell what he wanted and as of this moment, she wouldn't feel right if she denied him.
She outstretched her hooves and waited with a smile, fighting the urge not to let out any uncool noises as she watched his eyes brighten and mouth gape. He stared for a few moments before moving quicker than she'd ever seen him move before, making her stumble back as she caught him and wrapped her arms around him. Trying to ignore the blush forming as he nuzzled her chest, hugging her back as tightly as he could muster.
He whispered "thank you, Rainbow".
She chuckled and took a glance at the mirror, taking in the sight of the two of them and looking herself in the eyes "you're welcome.."
