Love Story
Moving Out Is Hard To Do
Previous ChapterNext Chapter“Ugh. Sunset! Could you stop leaving your paintbrushes all over the house?!” Twilight asked from the kitchen.
“Sorry! I forgot those were in there!” Sunset called back, coming in to grab them from the kitchen counter next to where Twilight was washing dishes.
Twilight sighed.
“Sunny, as much as I love this little condo, we just don’t have enough space for both of us to work anymore. I mean, now that MLP is getting so big and you’re working on the second season and my work and my research is taking up more and more space.” She looked to Sunset hoping that she was catching on what she was saying.
“Yeah, I get that too. Everything is just everywhere no matter how organized we try to keep it.” Sunset looked around the kitchen. There were papers stacked seemingly miles high on the table and the organized mess that was all the drawers was an annoyance.
“Maybe… we should look for a new place,” Twilight said timidly. Sunset looked to the floor.
“But we’ve had so many great memories here. All of it, since we left Canterlot, has been here.” Twilight set down the dishes she was drying, coming over to her wife. She carefully wrapped her into a hug.
“Leaving here doesn’t erase the memories, Sunny. We still have all of them to cherish forever, but this just isn’t functional for us anymore. Especially if we want to have a family someday.”
Sunset leaned into the hug. Twilight threaded a hand into her hair as Sunset held the paintbrushes tight in her grip and close to her chest.
“I guess you’re right,” Sunset mumbled.
Twilight giggled. “I usually am. Bioethics and biomedical engineering degrees.” Sunset snorted.
“Yeah, okay, I get it, you’re a genius.” She pulled away from the hug. Both girls laughed as the mood was lightened.
“I’ll start looking for a place tonight. What do you think, four bedrooms, three bathrooms?”
Sunset nodded. “Somewhere around there.”
“I’ll try and watch the money, but it’s LA.”
“Yeah, can’t avoid those million-dollar homes,” Sunset giggled. “Keep it on the cheaper side. We don’t need a mansion, just something bigger, but money shouldn’t be an issue.”
Twilight nodded and went back to finish drying the dishes while Sunset put away her paintbrushes.
That night, Sunset and Twilight browsed Zillow for what felt like hours, trying to find something they were happy with.
“I want it to have a pool,” Sunset said.
“A pool would be nice,” Twilight agreed.
They surfed the site for what felt like hours, each house they found either being too big or too small.
“21 bathrooms?! Who needs 21 bathrooms?!” Sunset exclaimed looking at a house.
“People with more pools than bedrooms?” Twilight guessed, laughing.
The two turned in for the night after finding nothing, reserving to look the next day.
Twilight contacted a realtor the following Monday so that they could find exactly what they wanted. A move-in ready home with at least four bedrooms and three bathrooms, plenty of space to entertain, and a pool.
That Friday, they were going to tour houses.
The first one was nice, but the kitchen was a little cramped and the fourth bedroom was tiny.
“Do you think this could work as a linen closet?” Twilight asked, joking. Sunset and the realtor both laughed.
“Possibly,” Sunset mused.
When they walked into the second house, Sunset was in love.
“It’s so… white,” Twilight said. It very much was. The floors and walls were all a ridiculously bright white.
“We can paint the walls, silly,” Sunset said. Twilight shrugged, walking into the house with her.
It was a really beautiful place. There was a fireplace in the main living rooms, the bathrooms were all fancy and huge, and the backyard was amazing for entertaining.
“What’s this listed at?” Sunset asked as they walked into the kitchen.
“Two million,” the realtor said.
Sunset looked to Twilight with puppy dog eyes. Twilight smiled.
“Can we put in an offer for it?”
Two weeks later and they had the house. Now they just had to pack their entire condo up and move it out. Piece of cake.
Sunset was crying after thirty minutes.
“Why are you laying on the floor crying, Sunny? You’re supposed to be packing.” Twilight asked, kneeling down next to her.
“I’m gonna miss this place. I don’t wanna leave!” Sunset laid her head in Twilight’s lap.
“I know you are, Sunny. So am I, but this is for the best. Think about the new house and how much you’ll love it. Think about all the new memories we’ll make there.” Twilight stroked her hair. Sunset sniffled.
Twilight looked up around the room, and then to the boxes laid out around the room from where Sunset had been trying to pack.
“I guess we don’t have much of a choice, we already bought the house.” She let out a watery laugh.
“Come on, let’s pack up.” Twilight carefully stood up and held out a hand to Sunset. Sunset took it and together the girls packed their bedroom up and dragged all the boxes out to the U-Haul they had rented.
It took them three days to pack everything, sorting through everything they owned and throwing out the trash while packing everything they wanted to take with them.
After it was all packed away and being taken to their new house, Sunset and Twilight did one final walk through the condo before handing away the keys.
“So much happened here,” Sunset said as they stood in the living room.
“We’ve lived here for almost six years,” Twilight whispered.
“I’m gonna miss it, but I think that the new house will be better for us. More space to work, a place to start our family.” Sunset wrapped an arm around Twilight’s shoulders. Twilight leaned into her.
“Speaking of family, we’re going into the testing phase for my method next month,” Twilight said.
“Really?! That’s great!” Sunset beamed. Twilight took one sweeping look around the condo.
“Ready to get out of here? I’ll tell you all about it on the drive to the new place.”
Sunset nodded.
“Yeah. Let’s do this.”
The two women walked out of the condo they had called home since they were barely 20, locking the door behind them and dropping off the keys with their landlord. They climbed into Sunset’s car, starting the drive to the new place they would continue to love each other in.
