I Love You Through Rain or Shine
Previous ChapterNext ChapterTwilight Sparkle rolled out of bed the morning of her wedding to the sound of rain outside.
It took her a moment to process these sounds. It was raining, on the morning of her outdoor wedding.
Twilight started to panic. They had spent weeks trying to make sure the date they picked wouldn’t throw any surprises at them, but here they were. Twilight felt tears flood her eyes.
“Why are you crying, Twily?” Sunset appeared in the doorway. It wasn’t ‘traditional’ for a couple to be together the morning of their wedding, but there wasn’t much that fit the classic mold about this wedding, what was one more thing?
“It’s raining.” Her bottom lip quivered as she climbed up out of bed and opened the curtains, showing the raindrop streaked glass of the window to Sunset. Sunset smiled sadly.
“It’s gonna be okay, I promise. I’m sure it’ll slack off, the ceremony isn’t until three.” Sunset walked up behind her and wrapped her arms around Twilight’s waist. Twilight leaned back, cuddling into her.
“It’ll be okay.” Sunset said again. A few minutes passed and Twilight could believe she and Sunset were the only people in the world. As they watched raindrops run down the glass and precipitation fall outside, Twilight couldn’t be happier to spend the rest of her life with Sunset.
“So what’s on the agenda for today?” Sunset asked after almost ten minutes of standing like that.
“We need to be at Camp Everfree at noon to direct set up, then hair and makeup at one, then everyone arrives at two, then we get changed at two thirty, then the ceremony starts at three and goes until four, then the reception in the Crystal Cave from four thirty to seven.” Twilight rambled off, recited the schedule she had created for their big day.
“Sounds good. Now, how about breakfast, then we go get our nails done?”
Twilight giggled, nodding. She looked at her nails, bitten down from years of stress and anxiety. It was one habit she never could kick.
“Yeah, I could use some acrylics.” Twilight thought back to the one time her sister-in-law Cadance had taken her to the salon to get a mani-pedi. She had gotten acrylics and broke them within two days, but it was worth it to spend time with Cadance. Sunset laughed, pulling Twilight out of her childhood bedroom, where they were staying while they were in town.
After a breakfast that was probably more sugar than not at Waffle House, Sunset and Twilight made their way downtown to the salon. They walked hand in hand with an umbrella over their heads as it drizzled around them. It was coming up on eight in the morning, just as they opened. Somehow they had managed to spend two hours in a restaurant. Maybe it was the power of being in love and having endless things to talk about.
They continued to talk about mindless things while they got their nails done. Their friends, family, even their future.
Before they knew it, it was time to make their way out to Camp Everfree. Twilight sat in the passenger's seat, watching the rain come down around them. It was almost noon, and the rain was still going strong. It was a race against time.
As they stepped into the camp, the rain lightened up, thankfully. It went from a steady pour to a light drizzle, and Twilight let out a sigh of relief.
Gloriosa was waiting for them while Timber had gotten a U-Haul to get the piano up to the camp.
“So Pinkie and Cheese are in the Crystal Cave setting up the reception, Pinkie planted a party canon under the docks. I have no idea what that’s for.” Gloriosa shook her head. “Fluttershy is setting up the cocktail hour in the craft room, and rarity is unpacking all the dresses in the main office that we’ll have to use to get ready. Applejack, Rainbow Dash, and Rara are on their way.” She listed off. Sunset and Twilight nodded and headed off in opposite directions, Sunset towards the Crystal Caves and Twilight to the crafts room.
The cocktail hour started at two, meaning they still had ample time to set it up. As she entered, she was surprised with how much work Fluttershy had managed to do already. The room was set up with ten round tables to each hold six guests. Twilight and Sunset hadn’t invited a ton of people to their wedding, and that was just fine by them.
Twilight helped Pinkie and Cheese bring the cake in from Cheese’s car, the six layer cake having each layer a different color, from top to bottom being pink, purple, blue, a lighter pink, yellow, and a cyan color. Each layer was a different flavor too, and Twilight couldn’t wait to taste it.
Before they knew it, Sunset and Twilight had to run off so Rarity could help them with their hair and makeup. They sat in the main office, Rarity doing Sunset’s hair while Rara who had arrived with Applejack did Twilight’s makeup. Cadence was there too, struggling to get Flurry’s hair in its proper place.
The cocktail hours passed so fast that Sunset and Twilight hardly noticed they were alone for just over an hour. It was time to change before they knew it and Sunset was led into a side room so she and twilight wouldn’t see each other’s dresses until the ceremony.
As Sunset adjusted her dress, looking into the mirror, she heard the door open.
“Hey, sis.”
“Sunburst!” Sunset spun around, looking at her brother. Despite being younger, he towered over her. She adjusted the pins in her hair. “You came!” Sunset was almost shocked to see her brother, even though she had invited him and her family.
“I wouldn’t miss your wedding for the world, even if it’s in another world. Mother and Father are here too, and so is Princess Twilight and Starlight.” He smiled at her and she rushed forward, grabbing him into a hug.
“Wait- are you and Starlight a thing?!” Sunset asked, shocked.
“Uh- yeah,” Sunburst rubbed at the back of his neck. Sunset began to bounce on her toes. The silver high heels she was wearing may be complimenting her icy blue dress, but they didn’t allow for a very wide range of movement.
“Oh, a childhood romance!” Sunset cooed. Sunburst blushed.
“You look beautiful.” he said, gesturing at her. Her hair was loosely curled, her makeup was neutral with hints of glitter that sparkled in the light, her dress was a gorgeous shade of blue that complimented the lightest parts of her eyes. She looked perfect.
“Really it’s all Rarity. She’s the one who did my hair and makeup and made this amazing dress.” Sunset took hold of the sides of the dress and fanned it out to let Sunburst see it in all it’s beauty.
“Sunset. Ceremony starts in five,” Rainbow said, poking her head inside. Sunset nodded.
“I guess I should get to my seat. I’ll see you out there.” Sunburst brought Sunset in for one final hug before leaving. Sunset looked out the window to see the rain had stopped and the sun was shining. On the docks a purple altar with yellow flowers on green vines running up it was set up. There were chairs set up in the lawn in front of it and the aisle was lined with white satin.
Rainbow, Pinkie, and Rarity were Sunset’s bridesmaids, dressed all in similar but different styled dresses tied together with the same teal fabric. They came into the room she was waiting in soon enough and let her out to the docks. All the guests were seated and she spotted her mom and dad in the front room next to her brother and Starlight. Princess Twilight was sitting two rows back. She stood on the dock next to Gloriosa, who had become an officiant for the wedding. The bridesmaids stood beside her, waiting. Rara, Applejack, and Fluttershy came out next and took their spots right in front of where Twilight would be.
Cadence came out of the main office, running up to her seat. She flashed a thumbs up at Rara, who slipped off the docks and to the piano they had wheeled up to the camp. She sat down, organizing her music and beginning to play a traditional wedding tune.
Sunset bit her lip as the door to the main office opened, Flurry Heart and Spike bounding out. Flurry and Spike scattered flower petals in purple, yellow, and blue along the aisle, coming up to the dock. Fluttershy pulled the six year old over to her, standing her in front of her. Spike sat down next to Rarity, watching as Twilight came out next.
She looked beautiful and Sunset almost started crying. Her dress was pink and flowed all around her, layers falling around her farm angelically. Her arm was linked with Night Lights. Sunset to Twilight Velvet. She hadn’t even known she was attending her daughter’s wedding and she was crying as she watched. Twilight flashed her mother a smile as she passed.
In a blink Twilight was standing in front of her. Twilight moved to take Sunset’s hands into her own.
“You look beautiful,” Twilight whispered.
“You look gorgeous,” Sunset returned.
As Glorisoa read off all the traditional wedding commitment stuff, Sunset just stared into Twilight’s eyes. She had sid that veils were dumb and refused to wear one and Sunset could see directly to her beautiful face. She looked down to Twilight’s feet, where she was just wearing a pair of frilly white socks. Sunset giggled.
“Classic,” she whispered. Twilight smiled.
“Do you, Twilight Sparkle, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?” Glorosia asked Twilight,
“Yes, I do.” Twilight smiled wider than Sunset had seen her in a long time.
“And do you, Sunset Shimmer, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?” Glorisoa looked at Sunset. Sunset cracked a smile.
“I do.”
She looked towards the crowd, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
“Or do I?” she asked. The crowd gasped, muttering.
She turned back to Twilight, laughing. “I do, I do.” She nodded her head and Twilight giggled.
Gloriosa smiled, looking at Sunset.
“You may now kiss the bride.”
Sunset pulled Twilight into a kiss, wrapping her arm around her waist as Twilight’s hand graced her cheek as she was tilted backwards slightly.
They broke apart and the crowd clapped, Sunset taking Twilight’s hand and running back towards the main offices. Spike bounded after them.
Rara slipped off the docks again, beginning to play the piano again to send them out. It was off to take photos while the guests were led to the Crystal Cave. Pinkie jumped on a board on the dock, her party cannon appearing out of seemingly nowhere. Confetti and balloons shot out of it
“Let’s get this party started! Follow Cheese Sandwich to the cave!” Pinkie pointed towards Cheese, who was standing off to the side. He gestured to the crowd, leading them to the reception. All the bridesmaids followed with Flurry.
There was a beautiful forest behind the main offices. It was dewy from the earlier rain and slightly fogged over. It was the perfect place for wedding pictures.
Photo Finish lifted her camera. Twilight laid her head on Sunset’s shoulder , Sunset arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her close as she leaned up against a tree they had cleaned off as to not get her dress dirty.
As Photo Finish snapped more pictures than Sunset had had taken of her in her entire lifetime combined, Sunset couldn’t help but think of how happy she was. She was finally married to twilight, all her friends and family were here to celebrate her, and everything was perfect.
Just as they were wrapping up, Spike jumped up into Twilight’s arms for an impromptu photobomb. Both girls laughed, creating the perfect photo. Their little family, including their dog that now for some reason was living way longer than usual dogs. Sunset had attributed it to his ability to talk due to Equestrian magic, but even if he didn’t show many signs of aging, they never knew when they could lose him.
Before they knew it they were running off to the Crystal Cave for their reception. As they entered each holding up their dresses with one hand and holding hands with the other, everyone cheered. They beamed, quickly finding their best friends. Pinkie grabbed them the second she saw them, pulling them both into a bear hug.
“I’M SO HAPPY!” she squealed. They all laughed as Applejack and Rainbow pried Pinkie off of the newly wed couple. “I can’t believe you used the ‘or do i’!” Pinkie laughed once she was back on her feet.
“Pinkie came up with that?” Twilight asked, barely containing her laughter.
“Yeah. I think she meant it as a joke, but I thought it would be funny.” Sunset waved it off.
“I’m so proud of you!” Sunset was suddenly lifted into the air from behind. She began to laugh as Sunburst held her up. Twilight soon was attacked in the same fashion by her brother, giggling.
When Sunset was back on her feet, she wrapped Sunburst into a much more manageable hug. After they broke apart, he stepped aside.
“Mother, Father!” Sunset ran forward, grabbing her misty-eyed parents in a hug. They hugged her back just as tight.
“We’re so happy for you, Sunny,” Sunspot said.
“We’re glad you found someone who makes you happy, and you’re able to live the life you want,” Stellar Flare said. Sunset teared up at that and hugged them tighter.
“I’m glad you’re proud of me,” Sunset whispered. They pulled away, and Sunset turned towards her wife. She held out her hand and Twilight took it.
“It’s wonderful to meet you again,” Twilight shook hands with each of Sunset’s parents. At Sunset’s coronation, Twilight had been introduced to Sunset’s parents, but this was her first time seeing them since high school.
“It’s great to see you making our Sunny so happy,” Stellar Flare said. Twilight just blushed.
The reception was filled with dancing, delicious food, and meeting up with old friends. Twilight and Sunset couldn’t ask for a better wedding.
That night, they crawled into Twilight’s childhood bed together, just like they did in High School. Their dresses hung up in the closet and they were just in their bras and underwear. Sunset rolled on top of Twilight, kissing her as her hands roamed up her sides.
“I love you, Sunny.”
Sunset giggled.
“Not as much as I love you, Twily.”
Author's Note
Originally there was a scene in chapter 5 where Rara taught Sunset how to play the piano and she was going to serenade Twilight by singing "Beautiful Thing" by Grace Vanderwall, but because of site rules it couldn't happen. You san imagine it though.
