I could take the role, but dragons value strength and treasures far more than wit, I'm afraid. And well, you've accumulated quite a 'horde' here.” She waved her tail at his harem of lovers. “What I mean to say is, I think you're ready.”
Spike swallowed hard. “Are you sure? I'm still so young and its a lot of responsibility-”
“You'll be fine,” replied Smolder who pressed a claw over his mouth. “We'll be there to back you up!”

Plus there were plenty of places he'd yet to explore, and while he would have to partially settle down to keep the peace here and raise his spawn, Ember could stand in as Dragon Lord for a time whenever he decided to venture out and expand his 'horde'.
I wonder what else awaits me? Guess I'll just have to head out and see! Oh, but I'd better not get ahead of myself. Torch still needs to step down, so maybe I'll have a bit more freedom for a little while longer still?

“I've almost done the same. Flew into a blind rage when the Fire Ruby was damaged and knocked a girl off an airship. “I've noticed.” After he'd downed the potion he'd remained painfully erect. “Hope you won't pay the price later.”

“Yes,” said Celestia who strolled down the stairs with a peerless grace, almost blinding in her brilliance. In her hands materialized a white broadsword, the same one she'd used to knight her, and lifted it above Sunset's head.
Sunset's lower lip trembled and she couldn't restrain her tears. She closed her eyes and steeled herself, certain she would be executed for her weakness, that maybe it was what she deserved. She blinked in surprise when warmth washed over her, and Celestia took her hand, pressing the sword into it. “Wh-what...?” It hummed in her grip.
“Rise,” said Celestia and she did so. “You've earned this.”
“This is...?” Sunset's eyes widened when the white sword glowed and caught ablaze in a pale blaze. The purifying blaze washed over her, yet she was unharmed, filled with a warmth that encased her. Upon her nakedness manifested a pristine unitard and over that shimmering armor to match. She burst into tears in realization that she'd been chosen again.
To her shock Celestia was moved to tears, too. “I was wrong. I pushed you too hard, because I didn't want you to make the same mistakes I did. It's what I've always done, why I drove Luna away for a time. Your failures are mine.”
“Thank you,” said Sunset who sheathed the saber, the flame momentarily snuffed out with a hiss. She sank into Celestia's open arms, and cried out when the two embraced, Spike breathing a sigh of relief it had all worked out. For a moment he'd almost leaped to her defense, in fear she might really behead her student, used to all the cruel laws he'd witnessed across the land.
“You did well, Spike. Unfortunately, I lied when I said I could restore the Fire Ruby.”
Spike frowned. “What? Well, I guess it's okay, since I was able to help Sunset-”
Celestia raised a hand to silence him. “A white lie. I lack the power needed to restore it. Yet I know someone who can.”
Sunset looked at her. “You mean-?”
“Yes. My fellow 'Goddesses' are headed here. That includes my sister and a close friend of ours. More like family, far as I'm concerned. You probably wish to stay with Spike, don't you? You should follow your heart. I bestowed part of my power on you to protect this region, but most of the evil has been driven from in through your efforts. It will keep a while, I'm certain.”
Spike nibbled his lower lip. “Luna's headed here, huh? She's kind of scary. Wonder who the other Goddess is?”
“You'll like her. She's an expert in love.” Celestia winked. “Until then, rest and relax.”
She led them back to the massive pool and stepped in. Spike followed, then Sunset, who stripped off her garments and slunk in next to him. Steam rose around the trio and perfume scents wafted from the waters. Sunset's body was particularly tender after Spike's assault, and his pain proved even worse after he'd come down from a potion that had kept him hard for hours.
