My Little Assassin
Family Troubles and Surprises
Previous ChapterChapter 2 Family Troubles.
The next day began like any other, with ponies shuffling an milling about in the bright warm rays of the sun. The day was almost perfect. Because of such a nice day, Spike had a feeling Twilight would want some quality food for breakfast. Spike set a plate of steaming pancakes onto the table, hoping the lilac uniscorn was feeling good enough to eat some breafast.
"I can't wait to see the look on Twilight's face when she sees this!" Spike said loudly. As if on cue, Twilight Sparkle walked through the doorway, a tired look upon her face. Spike smiled brightly at her.
"Hey Twilight, You want some breakfast?" He said cheerfully. Twilight gave him a sad look.
"I'm sorry Spike, I can't right now, I'm too busy today." She said hurriedly. "Maybe later,Ok?" Spike nodded sadly.
"Okay," He said disappointed. Twilight felt a little low for lying to Spike like this, But she couldn't tell him the truth just yet.
"Hey, why don't you and I go out on the town tomorow?" She asked enthusiastically. Spike's face lit up with the kind of joy Twilight loved about the dragon.
"Wow! You really mean it?" He started. He frowned slightly. "You've said this before."
Twilight flinched slightly at his unintentional comeback.
"Of course I mean it. I'll have Rarity take over my responsibilities while we're gone, just so you and me can spend some time together." Twilight grinned, knowing how much Rarity wouldn't like handling the Cutie Mark Crusaders with Applejack. The smile on Spike's face seemed to grow wider, making her smile as well. "Just remember to do all your chores today." Twilight stated.
"Yes Ma'am!" He said, giving her a mock salute. He dashed off to pick up the plate on the table. Twilight Grinned.
"Do you want Owliscious to help you?" She teased. Spike shuddered at the thought
"No thanks, That guy freaks me out." Spike said defensively. He shot a wary glance at the perched bird. "I still think he's creepy."
"I bet he thinks you're creepy too." Twilight said. Spike shrugged.
"Eh, whatever." he retorted. He stopped his cleaning for a moment, a thought dancing in his head. "Why don't you invite Quick-Bolt to come with us?" Spike said.
Twilight nodded at her assistant's words. Quick-Bolt was a pegasus she had a very steady relationship with. Somepony who she could almost count on as much as her closest friends. She blushed slightly.
"That's not a bad idea." She replied. "Spike, send him a letter of invitation. Let's see if he wants to come with us." Spike gave her another mock salute.
"Yes ma'am."
The Next Day.
A short knock on the door sounded thirty minutes before Twilight's expected guest was to arrive. She opened the door nervously, worrying about the state of her mane. It was Pinkie Pie, a joyous look in her eye.
Twilight sighed in relief.
"What do you want, Pinkie?" She said, slightly annoyed. "I'm expecting a guest."
"Oh, I know all about your date with your coltfriend." Pinkie Pie said while smiling deviously. Twilight gasped in shock.
"How did you know that?" she asked a little shocked and annoyed at her friend's intrusive nature.
"Oh Spike told me about it," Pinkie replied happily. "He's been telling everypony." Twilight frowned deeply.
"Oh, Has he now?" she said annoyed. "SPIKE! GET DOWN HERE RIGHT NOW!" she shouted up the stairs. A short shuffling later, and smike emerged at the top of the stairs.
"What is it, Twi?" Spike asked worriedly. Twilight fumed at him.
"Why is it Pinkie here says that you told everypony about my date with Quick-Bolt?" She gritted out. Spike raised his hands up defensively.
"I never said that. I said you, me, and him were going out tonight, but not on a date." He said. Twilight's brain froze a split-second before she face-hooved.
"Yep, Oh wait a second, Not on a date?" Pinkie Pie asked. Spike shook his head.
"Nope, Just hanging out." he said. Pinkie nodded quickly.
"Okie dokie lokie," she said in a happy tone. "See you later, gators." And with that, Pinkie Pie bounded out of the library. Twilight spun and faced Spike, A little annoyed as she looked into his eyes.
"Why would you go around telling everypony that Me and Quick-Bolt were going on a date?" She asked a little irritably. Spike once again put his hands up.
"I told them we all were going out, just you, me, and him." he said. Twilight's face turned red.
"Oh, right." she said. Twilight jumped out of her musings when another sharp rap sounded in the doorway. Annoyed, and a little nervous, Twilight opened the door.
"What do you want?!" She yelled to the pony behind the door.
"Well, I was under the impression that you invited me. I must have made a mistake." Quick-Bolt said defensively. "I'll come back later." he put on a fake sad expression.
"Oh no, I'm sorry, I thought you were somepony else." Twilight apologized quickly. She stepped to the side, letting the dark red stallion in. He stepped in, taking in the sights of the library and books with his left eye. He lost track of thought as his eye gazed over to Twilight, his mind growing blank.
He snapped out of his short reverie when he felt a claw tap on his shoulder.
"I said Hi QB." Spike said with wittling patience. Quick-Bolt chuckled and replied.
"Oh hey Spike, How's it going?" He said a little excited. Spike smiled slightly.
"I'm fine, How 'bout you?" he replied. Quick-bolt nodded.
"I'm great," He smiled deviously. "Want to know why?"
"Sure?" Quick-Bolt smiled again.
"I'm hanging out with two of my favorite people in Equestria." Spike scratched his head innocently.
"Who? Me and Twi?" Quick-Bolt rolled his eyes.
"No, AJ and Pinkie." he said sarcastically. "Of course you and Twi!" They all shared a hearty laugh.
"I just remembered something," Quick-Bolt said, stopping their mirth. "I brought you guys some things." He spoke with a sly grin on his lips. "Just a few things lying around my house."
He dropped the saddle he was carrying, something Twilight's keen sight must have overlooked, and reached inside. The pegasus pulled out a large tome. It's cover read 'A complete history of Equestrian history, volume one'
He hefted the book to Twilight, who smiled brightly. He reached inside again, drawing a bag of gems out and tossing them to Spike.
"Quick-Bolt," Twilight said lovingly. "You know I don't like it when you buy us things." Quick-Bolt rolled his eyes.
"I don't mind it in the slightest," He started. "Besides, I'm leader of the Equestrian Air Force, I got money to burn."
Twilight smiled, before setting her book down and pouncing on the unsuspecting pegasus. He grunted lightly, landing fairly hard on the wooden floor. Twilight pressed her head to his chest.
"Oh thank you, Quick-Bolt!" she said. Quick-Bolt grinned lightly. They sat like that for almost a full minute, uncaring of the little dragon that was waiting patiently a little bit aways. The two ponies both stood up, a bright flush on both thier cheeks. Quick-Bolt coughed slightly.
"It's getting dark soon, should we get going?" He asked. Both Twilight and Spike smiled brightly.
Much later.
Quick-Bolt's mind was racing a mile a minute. He sat at the table with both the unicorn and dragon. He couldn't beleive what he's going to do. It was a big decision after all, one that'd change his life forever. He had been planning this for weeks, almost months.
"What's wrong Quick-Bolt?" Twilight asked him, shaking the pegasus from thought. "You look a little unfocused." Quick-Bolt shook his head.
"I was thinking about something." he replied.
"About what?" Twilight pressed, leaning closer. "I'd love to know."
"I'm thinking about how I should do something." He said nervously. Twilight was oblivious.
"Do what?" she asked.
This was it, the moment of truth. Quick-Bolt gulped slightly.
"I think I should show you," he started, standing up. "I was just thinking that I would get on one knee," He kneeled down. "Then, I would look you in the eyes." He looked her in the eyes. "And I would finally tell you that the last few have been some of the happiest in my life, and that you are the most beautiful, lovely, and charming mare in Equestria."
Quick-Bolt reached behind himself with a foreleg, and revealed a small velvet box. Twilight's jaw hung slack.
"Twilight Sparkle," he said. "I promise to love and cherish you for all of your exsistance, and that all of our time together will be full of joy and love." He cleared his throat. "Will you marry me?"
Silence.
"OF COURSE I WILL!" shouted Twilight as she pounced on the young stallion. A large round of applause erupted from the ponies at the diner, congradulating the newly engaged couple. Spike looke at the spectacle in total confusion.
"Wait, Let me get this straight," Spike began. "Did you guys just get engaged?" He struggled to comprehend the situation so totally baffling to his young mind.
"We sure did," They both said. "We sure did,"
Among the crowd of ponies at the diner was the shy and timid Fluttershy, who's voice was drowned out by the excited murmur of ponies. Twilight spotted her close friend and trotted up to her excited.
"Fluttershy! Can you believe it?!" She shouted over the din of the crowd. "I'm getting married!" Fluttershy gave her a smile.
"I know, I'm so happy for you." She said full of emotion. Both mares hugged each other.and trotted back to the table where Spike and Quick-Bolt sat.
"Congratulations Quick-bolt." Fluttershy said, "I'm so happy for the both of you." she hugged the stallion quickly. He smiled in response.
"That's very kind of you," Quick-Bolt began. "Are you stopping by with the others later?" he asked. Flutteshy shook her head.
"I'm sorry, I'm much too busy. I'll come over tomorrow, if that's okay with you." She said. Quick-Bolt nodded. Fluttershy turned and left the diner, leaving both ponies and a very confused and very displeased Spike.
"So should we leave?" Quick-Bolt turned to Twilight, already guessing her answer. She nodded.
"Sure. But let Spike finish his hay fries." She gestured to Spikes plate. Quick-Bolt put on a sheepish grin.
"So, How do you feel about me and Twi getting married?"
Spike only grumbled in response
