Baa-Ram-Ewe!
459. More than meets the eyes.
Previous ChapterNext Chapter-Equus, Canterlot, Tianhuo-
“So we will finish preparations as we now have a timeline. Princess Twilight wants this to succeed and understands that this will most certainly not be a diplomatic operation, but the first military one we’ve had in a while that didn’t involve hot pie fights with the buffalo. Ergh… so much wasted sugar, the horror… anyway, it’ll also be the first military operation under our new princess’s command and I don’t intend to fail her.” Duly Noted finished as he and his brother in arms Truly Noted both nodded to me and Sergeant Shady. “You’ll even be the first in line to go in Tianhuo, Pom’s god puppies should be more than enough of a contingent to support you in your endeavors of helping collect and protect ‘The Found’ until we can retrieve them all and open a safe portal somewhere within Tambelon to pull them out.”
“Thank you.” I said solemnly, now all we had to do was wait for Pom’s readiness in the manner. Pom, is not going to be very excited about doing this, plus she was having problems relaxing or sleeping. I saw it in her eyes when we last talked and I was worried about her current state of mind and health, also the progress of her golden wool in how much of her body it covers.
I hoped the vacation that the god Arceus sought for Pom was as relaxing as she hopes it will be, her shattered hind leg gave me quite a feeling of terror as I thought she had lost one.
Apparently Pom has actually become quite the warrior, her final battle involved her fighting three servants almost back to back and succeeding in freeing their souls from the odd monstrosity that was hurting two worlds in a mad quest to destroy the civilizations there.
While Dormarch may have finished off the final servant and that monstrosity that was Moon Cell itself, Pom was seen as a driving force behind the push that saved three realms... including the realm that was under Moon Cell itself that was now apparently free of the soul taking thing.
Pom was no longer fragile in my mind, but she was still the same sweet lambkin as ever… if suffering from what trials she’s been put through. Even I’m a little amazed by how strong Pom became for everyone around her and the potential many saw in her apparently has flowered by leaps and bounds, which is a worry in itself as Pom never wanted to explore ever said potential too deeply.
Hope to see you soon… please, for the sake of my mind, get some rest Pom and heal before bringing everyone home. I’ll easily welcome both Dormarch and Dolly as family without a second thought and have already assured as such that I don’t mind how many canines you have… just as long as you were okay and happy.
-Planet Petopia, in space above it, Brainy-
“So please, get down there and assist the situation Mam.” I told the pink Chihuahua like alien canine with bright blue eyes.
“It’s because I’m small and cute for my age isn’t it?” Well Mam, your species were known to be adorably small until you showed your true natural inborn abilities. Apparently if Tusky didn’t draw too much attention, then I seriously doubt you would either unless you showed off your ability.
I’m needed with the others up here to make sure the felons didn’t escape the planet.
“Yes, part of the reason, I need more discreet agents on the ground and you can just say your pink fur is a dye job. Nothing out of place for what I’m seeing on the surface given the colors, sparkles and glitter some of the animals down there seem to be enjoying.” I looked on as Mam, better known as Mammoth Mutt, nodded then looked to take a seat as I haven’t exactly dismissed her yet. Speaking of getting distracted. “Tusky is getting very distracted and Pocus is trying to track down those fugitive felonious felines alone, but he may admittedly be looking into a new possible recruit. While she appears to be a normal biological Dalmatian from the planet Krypto currently lives on, there’s odd energy readings showing she’s got magic that is quite similar if different to what Pocus has. Pocus is kind of important to this operation given he’s the only one among us that has an intrinsic understanding of the magic of this world and might have been here several times given some locals seem at ease with his peculiar presence. Meaning he’s gotten here before through more… natural means than how we did since he understands the magic of this world.”
“Wait, what’s that?” Mam asked looking at the screen of a particularly sweet and adorable picnic in progress.
The mystical ewe was with a Dalmatian that has an apparent firefighter’s outfit and some rather advanced technology for their planet inside of his pack. Curiously enough, he might have unusual origins if what I’m reading about him is right, that truly bears looking into.
The other being was an informational digital being that is somehow partly biological due to a strange fusion of something inside his body. The single core that housed their soul within didn’t use to be that small, I can tell just from looking at it.
They were peacefully having a picnic and it seems that the sheep entity improves the mood of most canines within her vicinity, to an inexorably stupid amount that it was even having an effect on me. Which was terrifying, given I was currently in orbit around the planet and should be far enough to not be affected… maybe it also works if I can visually see her?
The partially or pseudo-biological informational canine entity seemed much closer to the sheep than the ‘apparent’ firefighting dog, I admit that I have some jealousy on the matter that they can interact with the entity so openly, while I myself need to keep staying on task. Less I find myself becoming impossibly infatuated with the notably benevolent sheep like entity and doing something untoward to earn her ire.
“Nothing for you to worry about, we don’t want to have another incident with you looking up yourself on the internet of the world Krypto lives on.” I quickly, and sadly, switched the screen away from the sheep adjacent entity with the ridiculous sirens call to my heart to look out for. “You may proceed.”
I wanted to protect that precious ewe being from all that would hurt her… and my feelings of wanting to talk to her just to hear her voice were getting worse. So it's not just visual, proximity based maybe?
“EUGH… don’t remind me, the people on that planet are so weird!” Mam stated as she shivered and cringed, she stood up and started moving. “Heading out… also if I see that sheep, I’ll put in a good word for you. There’s just something about her that I really like from what little I saw of her.”
That’s the very thing I said upon witnessing her, so it is a naturally occurring phenomena among all canines no matter how intelligent and thus impossible to avoid the feelings of wanting to cherish and protect such a beautiful being.
Thankfully it’s not just me, but that means it was an even more daunting to resist the increasingly strong temptation to go down there myself. I had a duty to attend to… I could introduce myself after said duty was done if at all possible.
-Forest Glade, Pom-
“So that’s kind of what I do.” Marshall was an interesting Dalmatian, apparently he was being raised around a team of dogs that have done a bunch of odd stuff in the name of being a Rescue Team.
Heh, Rescue Team, I wonder who’s in charge of Team Harmony now that I’m not there? Foffo maybe, he was Indeedee a good friend since gratitude was his food. Would be kind of hard for an Indeedee to survive if they were constantly grumpy and didn’t enjoy life of helping others.
Apparently Marshall competed with a team of a nearby place that had what were called Rescue Bots that worked with the Burn’s family, the teams were fairly friendly to each other and they both helped people where possible.
Paw Patrol sounds so cute and something like what I would put my god puppies through, if I had the equipment and they were smart enough to use it. I’m sure they could even do most of the stuff without the equipment, bark out flames, dig up people stuck in snow and track anyone who got lost in the Dragon Lands. I should look into letting them do more… we’ll likely meet in Tambelon, because I doubt Tianhuo could stop my boys from coming with her anyway.
The Paw Patrol was apparently an odd team of dogs that were at least the level of Dolly’s family when it comes to intelligence… just without the oddly opposable digits that the dogs in Dolly’s world enjoys having. Marshall’s paws most certainly couldn’t do the opposable digit thing, but he was very intelligent so something had to happen for him to be this way.
Yet despite all the positive stuff he’s done, Marshall has stated he’s been rather clumsy and sporadically unlucky throughout all of it to an absurd degree. It was to the point that he even caused numerous incidents to happen himself, at least he’s fixed more than he’s ever broken. He was also apparently ridiculously talented in many field and all the equipment that everyone else among his friends uses and was an acting partial medic of his team, very amazing for a little puppy.
Marshall didn’t seem to realize how intelligent he was and was focusing far too much on…
Okay, I now feel like a hypocrite, when it came to realizing that I was about to think that Marshall was focusing far too much on the negative experiences he’s gone through and that he’s missing all his positive traits and successes. Since I’m one to do that very same thing to myself when it came to focusing on the negatives more than the positives. Kind of hard for me not to when I’m a lambkin, the general species wide mental issues were still a thing with me and it wasn’t just because of the whole ‘marmalade incident’ that we all knew about. It had to be true at this point because I was certainly a Chrysomallus and there was no way I could deny such a reality, no matter how direly I wanted to.
I’m lucky to still be alive and breathing, shattered leg aside, I’ve come very far and helped so many people. I can now experience the taste of fish that I cooked for my canines back home, though I will never be a big lover of meat, especially not from anyone intelligent like Elise no matter what it tasted like when I was in a beast mode at the time.
Needed years of therapy for all the things that happened to me this year.
That I grew fangs and can breathe fire were both quite useful for my needs if the most recent in a long line of issues, but those were changes that made me feel less like myself… and I could certainly appreciate how mentally tired I had been when I fought three servants back to back almost entirely by myself.
All of them were violently strong, especially with their magical talents. I fought through the powers of storm manipulation, limited earth manipulation, the ability to create vortexes, magical instant death energy, multiplying and reaction speeds beyond what most biological beings should be able to deal with… that’s how my leg got shattered.
BB was an informational being like Dormarch and she timed her attack perfectly with me being at my fastest, the attack had been devastating to the point that not even the magical healing of certain Pokémon could deal with such an injury in a timely manner.
That was all I dealt with less than a day ago on top of numerous Enemy Programs and a giant bird I fricasseed… how long have I been exhausting myself for?! Also why didn’t I see myself as being incredible to have dealt with such amazing circumstances?
Oh gods and goddesses, I was going to be seen as a major hero… and I couldn’t even deny that I was. Arceus didn’t and likely wouldn’t even give me a chance to deny it and my son Dormarch was taking after me in the mental department of being put through constant traumatizing situations. Well at least he can’t say he’s not my son.
“Can you show me that medical screen?” I asked and Marshall only took a second to bring it out of his pack, I wanted to see this puppy in action.
“Medical scanner!” Marshall barked with conviction and a screen popped out, I angled my right hind side so he could scan my leg. “Whoa… that looks… really bad.”
“Mom’s tough, she’s hurting, but she’s tough. She managed to pull some of the lost bone back into her body and reorient it correctly after such a devastating injury.” Dormarch whined a bit as he looked at the screen with Marshall.
“What are those surgical wires, they look unique and whoever made them could make a medical breakthrough with how well they are threading around the bone.” Marshall was a very intelligent puppy to notice it.
“That’s her wool, mom’s… a magical being. She can manipulate her wool to do a whole lot of things.” Dormarch said looking a little wary. “You don’t seem particularly surprise by that.”
“Well that makes sense, I’ve time traveled, been to ancient underwater cities, seen actual ghosts and met giant robots that I’m fairly certain are more intelligent than they let on when in public… wait, why was I depressed again?” It seems Marshall forgot how much stock he put into his incidents of tripping, falling and causing destruction by his own fumbling paws. I’m actually willing to thank my canine magnetism once for that, little guy needed the food we’ve been sharing with him to get his mind off of things. He quickly put away his medical scanner. “Are you somehow magically able to make someone feel better? I don’t know how magic exactly works, but thank you if that’s how I’m feeling better.”
“It’s not that I magically made you feel better.” Though my presence certainly helps in that regard. “It’s more that we are helping you feel better by helping you get your mind off of things Marshall. It’s always good to talk about things that are deeply bothering you, at least with someone you can trust… I really just meant to come out here and do that with Dormarch.”
This was a puppy that was eventually going to be expected to run into burning buildings and danger, sounds like he’s already experienced some of that apparently. Though his adventures seem to be light on danger compared to some of the things he said the Rescue Bots he talked about did. His tales of Adventure Bay sounded more cute than outright life threatening, so that Ryder guy has to be truly easing them into the bigger stuff when they get older.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt your time together with your mother Dormarch.” Marshall was such a sweetie.
“I think talking with you has helped mom relax a lot and I thank you for that, maybe even better than if it was just the two of us alone.” After that Dormarch went back to the food we had with us. After swallowing another mouthful he added. “She’s paranoid about things going wrong, so you two are kind of alike in that respect.”
“Really?” Marshall seemed excited to be helping my mood, before he went back to depressed. “I’m really clumsy though… I don’t want to cause you any problems.”
“Do you want help with that? I’m a dog trainer.” Huoshan Canine Division had dogs that could do more things than any other canine related department in the world, mostly because I could understand and communicate with dogs. It really helps in my line of work to know the needs of various canines. “Unless you like having your clumsiness being a part of who you are.”
“Well it has saved the day a few times…” Marshall answered while enjoying the food.
“You’re a growing puppy, a smart one at that, so coordination might be being thrown off by how big you’re getting among other things that might cause you to have balance problems like that helmet your wearing or the gear on your back causing you to feel a difference in weight that you might have problems adjusting to.” I was going to help Marshall, mostly because I seriously couldn’t help myself at this point. “Dormarch do you want to help find out what’s medically up with Marshall?”
“Well I did want to spend more time with you mom.” Dormarch stated, but even he felt like this was a good cause and I was "on vacation" so this hopefully wouldn’t be too intensive. “So let’s do this thing together! So what do you say Marshall?”
“If there is something wrong with me, I guess I do want to know what it is… unless it’s just me.” Either way Marshall seemed to want to know what was causing him to be so clumsy.
“Either way, we’ll find out together and then we’ll see how we can help you… now how did you end up here?” I asked, because he seemed so down when we first met him. “In this place, I mean, because even I don’t know where we are and only know how we specifically got here.”
“Everyone was laughing at me after a particularly bad incident. After that this portal sprung up out of nowhere and well I… tripped… right into it.” Yeah, that sounds bad Marshall, I was hissing in sympathy. “I don’t even know where this is either, but lost is the thing I’m definitely sure about… wait, how am I supposed to get back to my friends?! The portal closed after I got here! I’m stuck…”
He doesn’t know how to get back to his owner, friend or master named Ryder. Not to mention all his other friends in Paw Patrol, that seemed to upset him to realize as he started to panic.
“Calm down, we’re here for you.” I reached over and calmly ran my hoof up and down his back, treating him like I would my god puppies. “You’ll find your way home eventually, wherever you feel like that is.”
“You’re really good at this Ms. Lambchop…” Said a whimpering Marshall who was quickly calmed down as he leaned into my stroking.
“I’ve had a lot of practice and four god puppies that get into insane amounts of trouble… but please, call me Pom.” I sent Dormarch a quick mental image of giving Marshall a hug to calm him down further and Dormarch did so. “We’re friends.”
“Okay, I think I got a scan of you, interesting… huh… well then.” Dormarch was capable of it without the digivice which Dolly had, probably far better with it than without it, but still very much capable on his own. “Mom… Marshall might need more than a little help, I’m seeing some things that are very off with his body.”
“Huh?” Marshall stated curiously.
“Dormarch is not exactly normal as you may have noticed, he’s got an entire hospitals worth of information in his head and he can do things like a computer can, but in reality.” My explanation was met with a cheerful look of understanding.
“Oh, like a physical hologram! Got a building up my nose like that once… not a big building, but a model of one.” Marshall had a lot of experience for a puppy, an oddly absurd amount as if he were living on a familiar’s unique lifespan.
“So what’s the verdict Dormarch?” I said as I cuddled the two to my chest and then finished of my vegetable sandwich. “What’s up with Marshall that’s so concerning?”
“Well… while he is canine, he just looks exactly like a Dalmatian… more to the point, he isn’t a Dalmatian.” Say what Dormarch?
“Um… what?” Even Marshall looked confused. “Am I a robot or something?”
“No, but what you are is confusing on a number of levels biologically speaking… kind of wish I had the digivice for a deep scan into your genetics to make sure I’m not wrong.” Well that leads to an idea Dormarch. “You seem healthy to me otherwise despite the oddities.”
“Marshall, can we please use that medical scanner on you for a few seconds?” It seemed like I wasn’t the only one that wanted to know.
“Medical Scanner!” Marshall flipped it around when it popped out of his mechanical backpack and we looked him over on it.
“Do you see it mom?” Dormarch asked as we got a look at Marshall’s insides.
“Yes, I believe I do. You can put it away.” What I just saw let me know that Marshall probably wasn’t normal… and neither were any of his closest friends in all likelihood. “I’m going to ask you a series of questions now.”
“Oh, Okay…” Marshall seemed rather wary about what we were going to find out.
“First, have you ever been badly bruised before?” This was going to end in an interesting answer at the very least.
“No, but it hurts when I get slammed around a lot, I think the most interesting thing that happened to me was falling out the fifth story window of a build and slamming into the street… didn’t bruise then either, but it did hurt.” Now you see Marshall, if you had a better understanding of what normal biological dogs were like, then you might recognize that that was a pretty big red flag that you were something abnormal. You wouldn’t recognize it if you spent a lot of time around other abnormal canines like you to the point it seemed normal, you were so used to being bashed about that you probably never noticed how your injuries never seemed to ever be serious. “That was from before I met Ryder, Chase was the first dog in Paw Patrol… when Ryder found him abandoned in the streets of Adventure City.”
Five stories… Dolly could do that with her gliding ability and Dormarch because he’s a Digimon, any other Dalmatian might get seriously hurt even if they are prepared for a fall like that.
“Did you bounce off the street or create a hole in it?” My question was met with a curious glance by Dormarch and a raised brow, it was still a legitimate question considering what we might be seeing here.
“Hole, took me a bit to get out of it too!” Marshall answered looking a little more wary and was breathing a little bit more panicky as he was starting to realize he wasn’t exactly what anyone would consider normal. I’m fairly certain now that the dogs in Paw Patrol weren’t any better about that. “Stung quite a lot.”
“Do dogs normally talk where you’re from?” Something of a curiosity as he was talking like Dormarch, but not like Dolly who spoke entirely in barks.
“Only in Adventure Bay, Adventure City and the general areas near there… why… no wait, I can already see why that would be weird considering the dogs of the rest of the world. Makes me wonder why I haven't been experimented on by some government agency.” Okay, that that was adding onto the clue pile Marshall. Even Dormarch was making wild leaps as to guesses why now, we were passing thoughts between each other in our bond that might explain Marshall’s unique biology and maybe Ryder didn’t want anyone to panic but… “Now that you mention it… I really never asked why we can talk and Ryder never bothered to tell us. Animals all across the planet don’t talk anywhere else, except for maybe Krypto the super dog… he’s been heard talking occasionally, but he’s… an…”
Taking a deep breathe through his nose, Dormarch let out a sigh as he noticed Marshall freezing up. He then proceeded to haphazardly rip the bandage of normalcy fully off in one go.
“At some point in time I believe that alien canines may have crash landed on the planet you live on and that you’re probably descended from those aliens.” Well that was a pretty decent guess and about as good as we got Dormarch.
“That doesn’t change who you are, but what you are and might be the reason why you are so clumsy.” After saying that I stared at Marshall who was sitting quite still, with wide looking blank eyes. “The planet you live on may be environmentally different from whatever Dalmatian like alien you happen to be similar to.”
“But I can’t fly, or do all of the other things Krypto does when he gets on the news!” Marshall suddenly said, still looking wide eyed.
“You might be a different kind of alien dog from him, one with a different kind of uniqueness.” Dormarch was not letting him try and wiggle out of the revelation we had going here. "It's not impossible, since I exist and I'm kind of alien to you right?"
“Suddenly a number of the odder things that has happened while I was running around with Paw Patrol makes far too much sense now…” Marshall looked a little lost in his head.
“Give it time, all your friends just might be aliens too.” Thankfully I managed to give him a slight amount of relief, but he still looked concerned about everything he’s already been through. "They'll still be your friends at the end of the day and so will we."
-Pet themed restaurant, Dolly-
“Decent kibble, but I’ve had better.” I’ve managed to calm myself down, but I couldn’t stare at Tusky for too long before I started embarrassing myself again.
“Nice place they have here eh?” Tusky stated as he looked around. I knew he was an alien husky, blue fur was just not natural in my mind, but I didn’t expect him to think I was alien too. “So what planet did you come from to end up here?”
“One that is two dimensions over and where dreams can apparently come true, it’s been a bit of a trip.” I answered honestly.
“Do these dreams coming true happen automatically or…” Tusky asked and I noticed the other animals watching us, Roxy the Terrier seemed particularly eager in watching us get along from a distance.
“Nope, while they can come true, you have to actually work for them. Still working on mine to be honest.” Keep it together Dolly, you were successfully distracting all the other animals around and keeping them away from Pom who was… having a picnic with Dormarch and another Dalmatian?
Oh, he’s an alien canine and not an actual Dalmatian or has some Dalmatian ancestry on top of the being an alien thing, well I’m meeting one too Dormarch! Well an amount of his fur is naturally icy blue, do you think I’m slow or something little bro? How can he not be abnormal in this place, all the other animals seem normal... if all in a similar and really small size kind of way. Yeah, I’m chalking it up to the magic in the air too Pom, but the alien you’re with certainly didn’t shrink.
Apparently how animals get here is very unique and… yeah I already have an answer for how to get Marshall home, I’m still currently being given a tour of this 'Paw-tucket' place. So I’ll tell you how we can get him back to his 'fam' later, just relax Pom and enjoy yourself. Yeah, there a lot of really nice animals here, haven't seen a single thing I can't handle.
“So what have you been doing in the course of making your dream come true eh?” Tusky was really friendly guy and my dog can I not stop staring at him.
“Ehhh… skateboarding mostly, but what’s an alien like you doing here, you don’t seem ‘local’ and you already know I’m not that local either.” That got me a grunt of acknowledgement from Tusky.
“We’re hunting a pair of evil space cats, they are somewhere on this mystical planet and me and my team, 'The Dog Star Patrol and Affiliated Awesome Animals', are making sure they don’t succeed in any nasty plans they might be up to while here.” Sounds cool Tusky, but I don’t think Pom wanted any part of fighting evil cats or fighting much of anything at the moment. I'm certainly up for it though, still wanted a Metal Hound to take home with me as those armors were so dog dang cool. “We’re trying to catch them since they were on the run from us eh.”
“Would you like help with that handsome?” I said leaning against the bar trying to act smooth, but my tail was probably giving away my excitement and making me look as ridiculous as my red face likely was. “Not like I have anything better to do at the moment. My 'fam' is going to be here for a bit and we’re on vacation at the moment, so I'm quite free for some adventure.”
“Do you think you can keep up with German shepherd or a Great Dane?” Wonder why Tusky would ask me that specifically.
“Pretty sure I’m capable of that, yeah.” I should probably keep my powers on the down low until I actually needed them.
“Then you should be able to help.” Tusky Husky stated with a friendly smile.
“So what can you do as an alien?” I asked.
Tusky slightly poked a single large tooth out of the top of his mouth, the one that I thought was buck teeth. He spun it like a drill and retracted it before anyone noticed, which was totally awesome! I can see why he has the name Tusky now.
-Roxy-
“Oh would you look at those two, they are getting along so well!” I said happily.
“Yeah, usually something like half a block of Paw-tucket gets blown up with raw sewage by now.” Edie the parakeet stated with a look of horror in her eyes. “My feathers were ruined for an entire week after that!”
“That only happened one time and that wasn’t entirely my fault!” I whined audibly.
I mean sure most of it was, but not all of it!
“Sure it wasn’t… don’t actively try to pair animals together Roxy, just because you think it might work out. You should at least be asking if they are related first after that incident.” Oh right, Jade would remember that incident… since I might have been the reason she made the street explode with her body and she very well couldn’t safely lick herself clean after that. “Where’s Quincy? I thought he would be here with us.”
“Oh, I didn’t see him or Trip at the tent… he must have arrived after we did.” Well I knew they’d be fine, this world wasn’t very dangerous at all. Unless we made the danger ourselves, this world was perfectly peaceful paradise otherwise!
-Inside the tent belonging to Pom's group, Quincy-
Whoa... she’s awesome!
I watched as the female goat danced with that scythe on her hinds legs, usually I’d be screaming and fainting right now given how scary she looked… but she seemed so elegant with how she swung that thing around. It was kind of mesmerizing
She also seems very frustrated about something, maybe I should ask?
“Hey Quince, what you watching?” The sudden voice coming from behind me made me scream out loud and flop over.
-Shanty-
The note from Pom had me upset, but I was still here to be watching out for Smolder, Ocellus and Dodo. I really be wanting Favela for my crew too, she was being good at a lot of stuff... I'd be finding a way to make it happen later!
Then again Pom really could be using some peace and quiet as the last few days had been being exceedingly rough on her.
This tent is not being very quite or subtle as it’ll attract…
"AHHHHHH?!" Other beings.
I stopped practicing and then be looking at who was screaming, I be seeing an out cold goat on his side and a hamster.
“What do you be wanting here?” I asked as I pointed the cane scythe at the little hamster guy, who be quickly raising his paws in surrender immediately.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up on swinging that thing my way. My name is Trip. That’s Quincy, no harm meant, but my buddy seemed fascinated by that uh… workout I want to say?” Trip be giving me a weak cheeky grin. “Are you a grim reaper by any chance, I’m pretty sure I still have a few good years on me yet! No need to go hunting me down before my time right?”
