Gohan looked around, he saw no sign of the Sunset or Goku. He ran out of the building only to see a huge ape like creature fighting Sunset, Sunset was knocked away by the ape’s mighty blow. Blood was dripping from her eyes. She snarled in rage as she rushed towards the ape, delivering a barrage of blows as her hands began to ignite with flames.

The beast collapsed from the damage and Sunset panted. Gohan ran over “What happened?”

Sunset winced “Goku turned into a giant ape and proceeded to get rather rowdy, he is a lot stronger in that form” she then turned to Gohan “do you have something to take care of my eyes?”

Gohan nodded “I’ll see if I can find something, I don’t have much in the way of medical equipment out there but I do have some basic things.” He ran back to the hut and soon returned with a small kit. He pulled out some thick bandages, dipped them in some dark brown liquid and wrapped them around her eyes. He then guided her inside.

The next morning, he brought in Goku and put a nappy on him. He removed the bandages from Sunset’s head and found the bleeding had stopped, what he saw concerned him “Sunset?”

Sunset was staring at him with white eyes “I can’t see you, what happened?”

Gohan let out a sorrowful sigh “You have lost sight in both eyes, I am no doctor so I have no idea what happened to your eyes.” Sunset slumped as she heard his words, Gohan gave her a soft hug “but I can teach you how to sense energy. It will allow you to feel where other living things are.”

Sunset grumbled “Okay, I hate being helpless. I have always been able to take care of myself.”

Gohan let go with a soft smile “It’s okay to need help from others sometimes. Now let me help learn how to sense energy, it starts with being able to use your own. Life energy of ki exists within every living creature. Now close your eyes.”

Sunset nodded as she did as he asked, Gohan explained “Now focus on yourself at the core, that energy lies deep within the core of your being. You have to bring it out slowly and carefully.” Sunset focused she could feel magical energy burning in her body but as she forced herself deeper, she found something yearning for release.

Her aura flared out, almost like a fire. Gohan smiled “Good job” he then frowned “sensing energy is more difficult. It requires you to be able to feel the ki signatures of other living things, even those who have very little power. You have to reach out with your mind and almost touch the energy of other beings.”

Sunset turned around “It’s like sensing magical energy but in much smaller amounts.” She frowned as could see the energy coming off Gohan in torrents, she could see his shape by the energy he was outputting. She then turned to the sleeping Goku who releasing much less energy, almost a speck. She frowned “I can see the energy coming off things, it’s very simple compared to sensing magic. The trees, the grass, the fish and the birds.”

Gohan chuckled “You are very special, no bother being can detect energy in that way. I will help to train you so you can become stronger, maybe one day you will surpass me.”

Sunset grinned at him “Oh I fully intend to, I have a lot of goals for myself.” She then looked at Goku “Still we have to take care of him, he needs us both.”

Gohan shook his head “No, he needs you. I will support you but he needs you to care for him. I don’t have the energy to keep up with a child his age.” He put a hand on her shoulder “Besides you are tough on him in a way that I can’t be. He needs a mother and I believe that is you.”

Sunset looked at Goku before smiling “All right, Gohan. I will protect and guide him through life, my parents never paid me any heed. I will not allow him to suffer through the same.”

Goku slowly began to stir, Gohan smiled “I’ll get you the bottle, it would be hard for you to do it without your eyesight.”

She walked over and picked up Goku as he stirred, he looked up at her only to see the white eyes. He started to flail, Sunset began to sing

The light fades into the shadows
The cold creeps closer
The loneliness hunts you
But I will always be here

Life moves onward
I may change
I may be strange
But I will always be here

Goku’s squirming slowed, Gohan returned carrying the bottle. Her hand glowed as a teal energy wrapped around the bottle and levitated it over to his mouth, he began to drink. Gohan sat by her and put a hand on her shoulder. Gohan smiled “You are quite a good singer, I could hear it while I was preparing the bottle.”

Sunset smiled weakly “Back home singing is something we do quite often, I sung to myself often when I was alone. It helped keep a smile on my face when I was lonely.” Tears started to stream down her face “I spent so many of my years alone, my parents were always to busy with work. The when I was the Princess’ student when it wasn’t lessons she was too busy. Everyone who spoke to me just wanted to meet the Princess, I was alone.”

Gohan hugged her lightly “You are not alone anymore, we are a family even if we are a strange one. You will never be alone, I assure you of that.”

Sunset let out a melancholic chuckle “I hope you are right, I have been alone for so long. I have only know you for a short time, this feels to good to be true.” She shuddered “I’m scared that I will wake up and this is all just a dream.” Gohan held her as she sobbed, Goku continued suckling unaware of what was going on around him but in time he would learn.
